The Palace Hotel & Casino (20)

The Palace is without a doubt the fanciest building in Merctown, and is among the five best hotels within a thousand miles. The Palace is a ten story, five star, luxury hotel with 120 luxurious suites, eight large conference rooms, a massive ballroom, and the world class Majestic Suite (an entire penthouse floor). Funding for the Palace comes from a consortium of investors that include weapon dealers, Northern Gun, the Black Market, and Naruni Enterprises.

The first and second floors are dominated by the casino, a large flashy affair not unlike those of 21st Century America's Las Vegas. Millions of credits change hands at the casino every week, and the profits raked in by the Palace are enormous. The Palace Casino also handles all official betting at the Hub Battledome, which also generates huge revenues for the hotel. For the Black Market, this alone was sufficient reason to invest in the Palace Casino & Hotel. Dutcher's syndicate pulls in 10-15% of the casino' s take, which represents half of the group's annual revenue.

Also on these first two floors are numerous gift shops, three restaurants that serve excellent cuisine, and several stores.

Floors three through eight have luxury rooms, each of which contains two beds, a sitting area, entertainment suite (music, television, and pay-per-view of Hub events and movies), minibar, walk-in closet, and a full-size bathroom. The cost to rent one of these rooms is 200 credits per night. The ninth floor has eight suites, each about the size of a small house with a large living room, dining room, two bedrooms, study, sitting room, kitchenette, plenty of closet space, and a spacious bathroom with Jacuzzi, and costs 1000 credits per night to rent. The top-most floor is the Majestic Suite, a lavish series of rooms that are every bit as extravagant as the richest mansion in Chi-Town or Ishpeming. Only the most affluent members of society can afford to rent this suite with its price tag of 15,000 credits a night. The hotel reserves the right to rent the Majestic only to its best (i.e . richest and most powerful) clients.

MOD INFO: Overseeing the operation of the Palace is a Uteni merchant who goes by the name Jimmy-U (9th level merchant). Jimmy-U is a savvy businessman and charismatic host (M.A . of 20) who, with a short exchange of pleasantries and small talk, can put any client at ease. Like all Uteni on Rifts Earth, Jimmy-U works for Naruni Enterprises but part of his job as the Palace's manager is to keep all of its investors satisfied with the state of affairs at the hotel. A job at which Jimmy-U excels. In addition to his more routine duties, Jimrny-U also keeps his ear to the ground gathering useful titbits of information to pass on to his corporate masters at Naruni Enterprises.

Jimmy-U manages a work staff of five hundred, which includes maids, waiters and waitresses, bartenders, chefs, hospitality staff, doormen, bellhops , and casino workers (each of whom has the Palming, Gambling and Gambling: Dirty Tricks skills at 65% or higher).

Security at the Palace includes Vegas -style high-tech , concealed security cameras in the ceilings and other strategic locations to monitor all areas of the casino and public areas of the hotel, including hallways and stairwells. There is also a team of 80 professional security guards (3rd-7th level) equipped with NE-F20A personal force fields, plasma cartridge pistols and state-of-the-art personal communications. Guards are stationed at key spots and security areas throughout the building, and are trained to respond en masse to any situation with a response time of under three minutes. All of the hotel rooms are outfitted with high-tech electronic locks that are next to impossible to open without a key card. These cards actually read the thumbprint of the owner and will not function if handled by anyone else (the cards can be quickly programmed and are linked to the customer when issued at the front desk).

Business is booming at the Palace. The casino is always busy, filled to capacity, day and night, and the hotel has 75-90% occupancy year round. Mercs, bounty hunters and adventurers like to live large when they come in from the field or just made a big score, and the Palace is the place to do it. Other clientele include heads of state, business executives, corporate leaders, mercenary commanders, wealthy merchants, mages, and D-Bees - especially D-Bees who are often shunned in other communities and seldom get a chance to live in the lap of luxury even when they have the money. Champions of the Hub Battledome arena are also entitled to stay at the hotel, free of charge, as part of the profit sharing deal between the two companies. The reigning champ of the open category, the Titan Juicer, Shred, currently stays in one of the hotel's suites and puts in an appearance at the casino each night to the delight of his fans.

The Palace is more than a luxury hotel, it is also a hotbed of intrigue. Beneath the opulent surface of the hotel and the bells and lights of the casino, there is an undercurrent of tension, vice and skullduggery. Mercenaries and underworld figures are predators always on the prowl, and the casino is their hunting ground. Thus, in addition to pickpockets, con artists, thieves, cardsharps and high-class call girls who prey on the patrons, there are countless intelligence officers, bounty hunters, hit men, spies and mercenaries with their eyes open for fugitives with a price on their head, enemies, rivals, information, chance meetings, and opportunities to cash in on a spur of the moment situation away from the slot machines and gaming table. In addition, the Palace is a place where people come to meet potential clients, hand off information, money or contraband, spin deals, negotiate, make or take bribes, buy sexual favors, seal weapons purchases, trade services and information, unwind or play where their actions may attract unwanted attention, and where the fates of nations are sometimes decided.

When Fiona finally comes to a stop at the Palace, Jez practically falls out of the other side of the cab. "Breathing room!" she exclaims to the cool night and bright lights of the Palace exterior. She saunters and sways her way into the Palace and makes her way direct towards the concierge with a question dripping from her rosy red lips. "I've heard mention of your 'Majestic Suite,' by chance is it available? My new business partners and I would very much like to reserve it for the night. We could use some proper pampering and rest." Assuming the suite is available, she'll order up a lavish dinner and drinks, and request the hotel send up a staff of servants to see to their pampering.

If any of the girls has been wise enough to follow her inside at this point, she'll smile back sweetly and say "Like I said, my treat. Being a little extravagant is just good business with new partners."

OOC Comments
She'll pay using the universal card she has kept secreted on her person.

Kat arrives with the rest of the soon-to-be GIRLS of MercTown at the Palace. Kat's been generally prohibited from spending more of her money tonight, according to Jez. So the City Rat waits outside in her stinky garbage-covered armor. "Anyone got a smoke? I'll wait outside. Once you have a room, send out a bellboy to hose me off so I can come in without literally stinking up the place."

Kat will remove one glove and her helmet to smoke, should someone give her a smoke. Otherwise, Kat waits for her hose-down, while engaging in her favorite activity- crowd watching. All the people constantly coming and going from the Palace should be at least as entertaining as MTV in the 2000's.

James shivers at the thought of being crushed up in the cab of the truck, These girls all look pretty damn good but that much contact with strangers is just not my cup of tea. He looks at Fi and says, "I'm good in the cab as well, thanks for the lift." James gives the truck a quick look over just in case it may have been messed with while they were inside, (electronic countermeasures). He will then jump in the cab and keep an eye out for any tail that might be trying to follow them, (surveillance).

Once at the hotel James looks at the fancy building and lets out a whistle, "That looks pretty high end. It's been a while since I stayed at any place half so nice."

James puts a sheepish look on his face and stammers out, "So...does this offer apply to the solo member of the weaker gender as well? Haha." He laughs off his question trying to come across trustworthy and charming at the same time.

Jez nods at Kat's request on her way in. She relays Kat's request, but puts a spin on it. She describes Kat, and gets Kat'desire across to the concierge, but suggests instead of hosing her down so indiscreetly, to have her escorted to the suite (again assuming it's available) through the staff entrance. All these kinds of places have staff entrances in the back or something, right? Once in the suite, she can be properly deloused, scrubbed until her skin is raw and peach-fuzz smooth, and perfumed by the hired attendants. To ensure her sneaky intentions are obeyed, she'll offer the concierge a thousand credit incentive and cover charge in case Kat's a pain in the neck about it. "In case she gives your guys any trouble, let them know ahead of time that it's cool if they need to neuralize her into compliance. You have my word and my ample credits as insurance that she'll be grateful, and that this is done on my request.

The bartender waves off Analoy’s protestations. “Oh it’s no trouble. It’s actually worth it just to get it out of here.” James checks the pockets and lining of Analoy’s ‘new’ jacket but can’t find any trackers, microphones, cameras, etc. -- at least, none he can recognize as such.

The bartender happens to see the security guards before they make it to the group. “Uh oh, let me see that back for a moment.” She takes the hot chocolate and has it in a to-go cup by the time they have to leave. Her face brightens up considerably when she sees the large tip. “Thanks, hon! Come back again soon!”

The guard, on the other hand, barely reacts as Analoy shoves the money into his hand. Aside from a barely perceptible nod and a soft grunt of acknowledgement, there’s no indication anything happened.

Once outside, it's a tight fit but everyone manages to get into Fiona's truck (except for Kat, who rides in stinky solitude in the bed). Fortunately the trip to the Palace Hotel is a short and uneventful one.

The desk clerk -- a man with an overly cheerful face, slicked back hair and a thin mustache -- looks the group over. "Why YESSSSSSSSS, we do still have the Majestic Suite and it just so happens to be vacant this evening." He looks over the group with an all-too-judgmental eye. "For you and your friends, the suite can be yours for 20,000 credits per night. Plus any damages incurred."

Despite the stinkeye, however, it's not long before the group is ushered into the unbelievably posh Majestic Suite -- an entire penthouse floor of the hotel building -- and more luxury than any save Nuriel can say they've ever laid eyes on. Yes, even Kat has been brought up by the staff entrance by an all-too-eager concierge (Sure, we all know Kats hate baths... but 1,000cr tips can be SUCH a motivating factor). Sleeping arrangments are made -- and James will find that even the couches are more comfortable than most beds he's slept on of late -- and the rest of the night passes peacefully.

------------------

By 9am the next morning (Tuesday, February 4th, 111 PA), the group is all rested/showered and breakfast has been enjoyed courtesy of the miracle that is room service. And a new day await.

What are you doing?

((OOC: Okay, so it isn't the most extensive GM post but I wanted to go ahead and get y'all to the next morning. Now we find out if Scarlet was right and tomorrow really *is* another day.))

Kat figures out Jez's plan pretty quick as she is ushered into the service entrance. "Look, man. Look at me and the garbage bag I'm carrying. You're not doing her any favors by not hosing me down in your mop sink first at least." Kat indicates herself and then the bag in her hands. "Pretty sure I'd be retching if I wasn't sealed up in this suit. I can do it myself in like five minutes if you'll just show me the spot."

Should her appearance and words gain the support of the staff, Kat hoses herself down and the dead Horseman's gear in the shop sink. Otherwise, one of the bathtubs in the sweet is likely to use up the cleaning deposit on the suite.

In the morning, Kat uses the hotel's phone system to set up an appointment about that hangar.

James gets a decent sleep on a very comfortable couch. He wakes up early and does some quick stretches to limber up his body from the work performed the night before. Ok, time to get some work done.

He puts on his wrinkled clothes, messes up his hair a bit, and heads down to the lobby, restaurant, pool, workout facility, or anywhere else public. The spy uses his skills to try and ferret out any employees of the hotel that might look like they would be interested in an arrangement of money for secrets or anything along those lines. He will eavesdrop, use bugs, bribe, and any other trick that may help identify the right kind of individual. Once he has one located, he will approach them and try to casually feel them out for the best way to broach the topic. The spy will also note any security cameras in the building and do his work away from their locations.

Successful or not, he will head to a clothing store and buy a different colored shirt, pair of pants, and hoodie. James will leave the old ones in the change room and clean up his appearance a little before heading back to the hotel and the fancy suite. He will get some coffee going in the room if no one else has already done so and greet everyone with a friendly, "Good morning. Coffee?" as they wake up.

Jez fumes. That rat-faced bastard. She picks up the telecomm in the suite and calls down to the front desk. "I'm up here in the Majestic suite, but I have not received the majestic treatment which I requested. Your simpering idiot of a concierge did a craptastic job last night. I asked for a staff up here to pamper myself and my friends, and who shows up? Nobody. Nobody shows up to run our baths. Nobody does our laundry. Nobody brings us refreshments. Nobody washes and cuts our hair. Nobody manicures our nails. Nobody massages away the stresses of hard travel. Nobody was a busy frakker last night. You ought to fire your concierge and give Nobody his job! Now then, unless you want me to dial my anger up to eleven and talk trash about the Palace's craptastic customer service from here to Manistique, I'd get a whole cohort of staff up here to address our many needs." CLICK. Jez checks the time and marks it in her mind. I'll give those layabouts five minutes, and then I'm going to storm down there buck naked and screaming!

By the time James gets back, Kat is (hopefully) already done setting up that appointment to see what space is available at the Airport.

The City Rat, in a hotel robe, is performing routine cleaning and maintenance on her Naruni Body Armor and sidearms on the couch James was sleeping on. Kat did not start coffee. Kat hasn't drank any in over a year now. "Morning, mister burglar. Nice new duds." The City Rat smiles at James.

The garbage bag full of (now cleaned) stuff from the Horseman is on the coffee table in front of Kat. Kat gestures at the bag. "If you wanna see what a Horseman carries around with him, have a gander. But don't handle it too much. I want to find a psychic to read the impressions, and someone told me people handling it too much might mess them up."

Kat makes a recognizing grunt at this and interjects with a question. "Ninja girl? Was she wearing red?" Kat's tone indicates she strongly suspects the answer already. The Red Terror helped look for Kat's mother, after all. Well, no worries about THOSE guys telling the Horsemen shit.

Analoy nods, "I think so. I was using dark vision so the colors were a little off."

At the Hotel, Analoy wakes warm and clean. She remember back to the night before, freezing and sipping on the to-go hot chocolate that the bartender gave her. She looks over at the old jacket thrown onto a chair then reaches over and pulls on the hotel robe before going out into the living area.

Finding the suite's kitchen was easy. Once there, Analoy places a breakfast order for all from the menu that she found and the call button on the wall. While she waits for the food to arrive, she sets about preparing coffee and places it on a tray with a selections of juices. When the food arrives via a dumb waiter, Analoy loads up a cart she found and pushes the ordered breakfast and drinks out into the dining area.

Taking a slice of a quiche and a glass of grapefruit juice, Analoy makes her way out into the living area where she spots Kat working on the armor that was acquired the night before. Sitting down on an adjacent chair, Analoy eats and watches the other woman work for a while before she says, "There's food in the dining area. Can I get you something?"

Hearing a voice echo out of another room, Analoy looks toward it and then back to Kat and/or James, "Is there some kind of problem?"

Kat Porter wrote:"Morning, mister burglar. Nice new duds. If you wanna see what a Horseman carries around with him, have a gander. But don't handle it too much. I want to find a psychic to read the impressions, and someone told me people handling it too much might mess them up."

James sips on his coffee then nods and smiles at Kat, "Just some new tools of the trade." He then wanders over and looks over the equipment making a mental note of the kinds of things to expect a Horseman to carry so identifying them in the future will be easier. Looking back at Kat again he says, "Thanks for that. Knowledge is power."

Once all of that is done, James queues up the video of the man that was tailing him. He looks at it frame by frame trying to get a good view of the face. Let's see if we can find out who you are. Regardless of there being a clear view, he will pass it over to Jez, (once she is done ranting) and Kat to see if they can recognize the man.

"That'd be great, Analoy. Thanks. Some meat and fruit. No eggs, please. And some juice." A hotel toothbrush is being used to scrub the cracks and crevices in the NE-BA-26.

"Snap, that's right. You guys clipped one too. You have his shit here? Dig it out so we can compare and contrast." Kat looks over her ammo situation. " I need some more plasma cartridges."

"I dunno, Nuriel. Let's ask Fi before we get outside help. I prefer to play my cards close to the chest."

Analoy nods to Kat and hops up from where she was sitting to head over to the food cart in the dinning area. She pours a glass of orange juice then preps a plate with an assortment of the fruit selection, but she steers clear of the spicy meat selections, sausage and what not, and ops for several slices of the sweet yet salty, honey baked ham.

Coming back into the living area, Analoy places the glass, plate and some silverware within easy reach of Kat. Then she goes back to her spot and continues working on her breakfast. "So, why were we picking on the Horsemen last night? From what I know of them already and what the red ninja said, they aren't a group you go after on a whim. Too well organized and outfitted to be an actual biker gang, even if that's the look they're trying to portray."

Finoa gladly drives the team to the various places it wants to go before making the final stop at the Palace Hotel and Casino. When they arrive she hands the keys to valet and waits for a ticket. "Try to keep it under a hundred and don't change the radio station." She says humorously to the Valet, before following Jez, Kat and crew into the hotel. Fi gives a low whistle when she sees the interior. This is the nicest building I've ever been in. Fi thinks to herself when she overhears the price f the room for the night. Sweet angel of combustion... How rich are they? Fiona thinks as she follws the group up to the room.

Once in the room Fiona makes use of it's facilities and cleans up a little before finding a comfy couch to sit on. Pulling out her personal hand-held computer, Fiona boots it up and begins some preliminary work on what she thinks the Hanger base could use, while keeping it's intended purpose of storing vehicles relatively intact. She also jots down a few notes as to what could be done with the stolen hovercycles, to bring up to the others once the partying has stopped. Fi is social to a point, but mostly keeps to herself, because hse has a project to work on, even if it is hypothetical at the moment. Eventually sleep will take her likely still on the same couch she started on, when she awakens she'll again avail herself of the facilities, and straighten herself up, before rejoining the others.

The Morning
"Well, for one miss, you have some tattoos that may or may not match styles I have seen the Horseman sport on one or more occasions. As the Horsemen and I don't much see eye to eye, I had to test you."

Kat rummages through her stuff and hands over to Analoy a folded up, year-old page from a Warhawk Magazine*. "Two, I do have a personal beef with these guys. The Greenskins, too. They are another local gang. The Horsemen launched the missiles at my old team in the Swap Meet." Kat's face tightens up. "Not that I should have been trying to sell the damn thing there in the first place." Kat indicates James, then Nuriel, then anyone else in the room other than Jez when someone tries to return the article to her. "I mean to make the Horsemen pay for those names. Every last one."

Kat idly scratches at one of the cigar burns on her leg. And then you, big fish.

After the discussion about the Horsemen is over for a moment, Kat returns to work. The City Rat is filling up both her NE-6SLs with 6 rounds each. Kat needs more ammo, and orders it delivered over the Intranet, if she can.

Once everyone has settled in for the night, Nuriel takes a few minutes to meditate with Ally laid across her lap. Although there is no definitive contact of which she's aware she does feel a sensation of warmth and her staff's glow seems to reflect that warmth.

Fiona, for her part, starts planning for the needs of the new group. As she calculates space needed for the group's various vehicles -- not to mention the various tools and specialized equipment needed to service them -- she realizes they're going to need something at least 10,000 square feet of hangar space and another 4,000-5,000 square feet of living/office space if they're going to make it their regular abode.

James' early morning activities do not go unrewarded. As with any high-profile luxury hotel and casino, security is tight with a network of high-tech security cameras concealed throughout the public areas. Finding a space completely out of their view is nigh impossible but at least some areas aren't as well-covered as others. James finds it easier to observe unnoticed by 'blending in' with larger groups of people. He identifies a surprising (or rather, not so surprising all things considered) number of individuals who appear to be doing pretty much the same thing he's doing.

Also as with any high-profile luxury hotel and casino, the Palace is a hotbed of intrigue with all sorts of goods/services trading hands under the table -- and information is hotly traded just as much as any other commodity. It's not without its costs, of course, but he manages to establish contacts among some of the hotel staff. Some of the tidbits he manages to pick up include:
James' Contacts wrote:- some of the local 'freelance' call girls have made an alliance of sorts with some equally 'freelance' pickpockets and are sharing information with one another regarding likely marks for each other.
- the night shift concierge clerk went missing last night. The time he went missing wasn't long after the group checked in.
- Shred, the Titan Juicer who's the reigning champion of the open category at the Hub's Battledome, is suffering the effects of "last call" and is trying to keep his condition a secret but rumor has it he's looking for any options that could extend his lifespan.
- The Mephisto's Horsemen gang is offering a HUGE reward for information leading to the identification of those responsible for the theft of the #2 guy's hovercycle and the assaults on two more gang members. Eyewitnesses agree that three light-skinned women were involved but their descriptions vary.

((OOC: James, deduct 1,000 from your credits/NGMI stash (probably the latter as it'd be easier to slip someone). Is there anything in particular you're looking to find out?))

As James is out on his sunrise surveillance run, Analoy busies herself with the ordering of the breakfast and the preparing of the morning's beverages. The room service cart arrives promptly at 8am, with the service staff setting the dining room table efficiently and quickly before leaving.

Meanwhile, Kat is on the horn following up on securing a hangar space. About 8:15am she manages to get hold of someone at the airport who says that Mr. Rickenbacker had to stop by one of the airport's leased properties on his way in but should still be there by 9am and is scheduled to be there until 5pm that afternoon with no appointment necessary. James returns and tries to glean any information he can from his footage of his tail from the night before. Details are scarce due to the low light conditions, but the shadowy figure is definitely a muscular male wearing what looks to be a spiked version of juicer plate armor. There's a couple of moments in the video where there's enough light to pick out primarily red colors from the guy's armor. Based on that and Analoy's description of her own tail from last night Kat is at least reasonably sure she knows their identities -- and more importantly, their affiliation.

She doesn't have much time to reflect upon the implications of the Red Terror's surveillance before Hurricane Jez storms in and gives the poor dope on the other end of the phone an ear-chewing the likes of which hasn't been seen since Mike Tyson retired from boxing. Roughly 4-1/2 minutes later, there's a knock on the door. Whoever answers it is greeted by a 6-1/2' tall blue-skinned D-bee dressed in an expensive suit. Behind him is a team of assorted hotel employees.

"Good morning," the D-bee bows slightly with a warm smile. "Allow me to introduce myself -- my name is Jimmy-U. I'm the manager here at the Palace Hotel. And with me are the finest personal service specialists we have to offer." He snaps his fingers and the staff files with with various carts/folding tables/etc. which they quickly go about setting up into stations around the suite.

Jimmy turns to Jez. "Madam, I must sincerely apologize for our being negligent in attending to your needs last night. There has been an unfortunate... communications breakdown... at the front desk last night which resulted in your requests not being conveyed to the proper staff. We are currently assessing the situation and I assure you I will personally take any steps necessary to ensure this unacceptable occurrence will not happen again. In the meantime, please allow us to make this situation right by placing these fine men and women at your disposal, free of charge, before you set out for today's activities. I would also like to extend the Majestic Suite to your group tonight as well, free of charge, if you would like to stay with us another night."

He looks around at the group with his gaze finally coming to rest on the dining room table all set for breakfast. "Oh, but I'm intruding on your breakfast time. Please, enjoy your meal -- the staff should be finished setting up and ready for you when you're done." He moves back towards the door. "Is there anything else the Palace Hotel can do for you this morning?"

Kat sighs and packs up her note and the Horseman's gear when Jez demands her service. Wouldn't do to leave that out in the open for anyone to spot. "We can go see this Rickenbacker fellow anytime before five today, Jez. I also need to get some of my armor worked on, so let's leave some time out of the pampering for that, eh?" Kat holds up the chest and back plates of her NE-BA-26 and shows off the laser scars. "Most of my other suits are in worse shape. That, and I'm finally running short on ammo. So shopping is in the cards today, for me at least."

When Jimmy U comes into sight, Kat does a double take, trying to make sure she isn't seeing Ript Orn. The City Rat has had several encounters with another Uteni who works for Naruni. Kat accepts a minimum amount of pampering- no massages or facials, but Kat'll happily take a mani-pedi and some hair styling.

Assuming she gets done before the others, Kat suits back up and heads out the door. "I gotta grab the rest of my gear from the Ambassador and hit Naruni. See you at the airport." Kat looks over all the different workers scurrying around. "I'll probably be waiting there. Probably at the Flight Room."

Jez beams her most radiant and genuine smile at him. "Jim, that's music to my ears. I hope you're well paid. You're clearly a master of service. Yes, we'd love to stay another night, and I hope you get your comms issue worked out." Jez mulls over her actions in light of this new information. "I owe the guy I spoke to minutes ago an apology. Would you mind conveying my apology to him? I kind of feel bad for tearing his ass like I did." She looks over her assembled compatriots and frowns slightly. "Jimmy, there is something you can do for us. These good people are dressed like wretches, and doubtless could use some better gear. Could you please have an NG sales rep come to our suite as well as someone from Erdano's? I'm sure they'll appreciate the opportunity to make a half dozen sales calls for the price of coming to their customer instead of the other way around. If you could see to that, I'd appreciate it."

Kat wrote:"We can go see this Rickenbacker fellow anytime before five today, Jez. I also need to get some of my armor worked on, so let's leave some time out of the pampering for that, eh?"

As she's speaking to him, she walks over to where Fi and Kat are on their computers and looks over their shoulders. "Have a Naruni sales rep make us a house call as well, please. My partner has some purchases to make as well. And there's a Mr. Rickenbacker from the airport who we'd also like to come visit us. If you could arrange for him to meet us here at his earliest convenience as well, I'd appreciate it. Now then, don't let me disturb you further. I'm sure you've a hundred card sharks to keep an eye on. Thanks, Jim." Without further ado, she allows herself to be massaged and otherwise pampered and refreshed for an hour or so before getting into her freshly laundered A.D.F. fatigues, and resuming her role as a seriously military officer.

Kat rolls her eyes, but smiles when Jez starts making her requests. "Well, I ain't been more than 10 feet away from one of my armor suits in... oh, about 14 months now. I think I wanna keep that streak going." Kat hands Jimmy U her Ambassador Suites' keycard and her identification card. "If you'd be so kind as to have someone grab my gear from the room I am keeping at the Ambassador, I'd be quite grateful. Tell NG and Naruni that I'm in the market for the longest range energy rifles they produce." Kat leans in closer and speaks more quietly with Jimmy. "And if you could send Naruni in first and make sure it's Associate Orn, I'd be tickled pink. I ain't seen him in six months. Maybe if he does his job there won't be any credits left for Northern Gun. Also, I need at least 100 standard cartridges and 50 of the light ones." Kat winks at Jimmy.

(If it makes any impression on Jimmy, Kat's pretty clearly a Naruni weapons partisan. She's got a six figure suit of armor, and a pair of hand cannons.)

Jez nudges a pair of staffers who simply must be masseuses. "You two. Her first. If you gotta physically restrain her, your tip will be stupid huge, but I want that woman gelatinously relaxed and gorgeous before the sales reps get here." Jez locks her predatory eyes on Kat and smiles. "Once you're gorgeous and chill like a popsicle, the reps will be eating from your hand."

Jez's eyes take in Fiona who is far too hard at work. "Finish your dream garage wish list, woman. I've gotta add my own touches to it. Chop-chop."

Jez eyes Nuriel as well. "You enjoy some pampering and use your natural assets to keep the attention of the sales reps when they get here. Keep 'em distracted, Red."

Jez takes in James. Damn, he's pretty. "Work up a list of what you need most to do your work, and when the reps get here, learn what you can from them. Especially in case they might need a job done."

Analoy's too skinny. It's like she hasn't eaten well or consistently in a long time. She's all whipcord muscle and sinew. Needs some feminine curves on that little frame. Then again, I bet she's never had nutrient paste three-bravo, so perhaps she's lucky. "You," she points at Analoy, "relax. Eat. Get pampered. And when the reps get here act your part as our deadly hired muscle."

"Sweet Lords of Cojo! Kat, put that thing away!"

She flashes at the masseuses. "Ignore the wretch then. She apparently values her discomfort more than your lives."

Jez flashes a defeated and disappointed look at Kat that conveys a thousand implicit promises of future come-uppins. "Try to do something nice for some people..." Jez grumbles as she heads for the kitchen. "Somebody make me a strong cocktail. My surly partner just spoiled my mood." Grabbing a handful of whatever's first in front of her, she stuffs her mouth full of the food...whatever it is. It's not nutrient paste. Think of your shipmates, Nunnos be with them at last.

(Rolls Carried)

Kat uncocks her piece and tosses it down next to the other one on the couch. "Getting rubbed down from head to toe ain't my idea of a good time. But if you want it so fucking bad, FINE. Hope it makes you happy, partner."

Kat glances over to James. "Those cameras better not be recording now." Then Kat closes her eyes and loses the robe. The City Rat looks distinctly uncomfortable. One look at Kat's back explains her reluctance clearly enough.

Kat's back looks like someone dragged her across every road in the Warrens. On the day after the Mercenaries have their annual Cinco de Mayo festival and the streets were covered in thousands of broken glass bottles. Then it looks like some amateur surgeon sewed it all back together using stitches made out of some materiel no thinner than bass guitar string.

Kat opens her eyes and climbs onto one of the massage tables. "Good luck working out those knots."

As Jez and Kat start disrobing for the masseuses, Jez's eyes catch sight of Kat's scars. Her victory tastes like ashes in her mouth. She waves away the masseuses with a silent look. "Hey, Kat. You want to get those scars taken care of instead...then take care of whoever did that to you?" At least the Atorians repaired all the damage they did to me. Frigg be blessed. Well, my skin anyway. Looks like she's been through a bit of the same hell that I called 'home' for so long. She remembers James is in the room. "If you don't strip too, you've gotta be cloistered in one of the anterooms. Can't have that though." She lets the little black strapless dress she was still wearing from the night before collect at her feet. "On the table, pretty boy. You're gonna take one for the team." And by 'team,' in this context, Jez clearly means Kat.

Kat Porter wrote:"Well, for one miss, you have some tattoos that may or may not match styles I have seen the Horseman sport on one or more occasions.

Analoy nods along as Kat talks about the Horsemen's tattoos looking like her own, "Yes. That is in part why I am here. My former... employer wants me to keep an eye on them. According to him, too many of the Horsemen have them for it to be a coincidence. He fears that they might have a connection to Atlantis." She pauses as Kat continues with her points. Then sucks in a deep breath at the mention of missiles being fired in the city. Those tactics will bring them to a lot of peoples attention and if one group can't clear them out alone, stuff like that will make people band together and route the horsemen out of town.

Finishing her breakfast, Analoy moves just out of sight when there's a knock at the door. After Jez's exchange with the manager and the attendants are admitted, Analoy steps up behind them with a smile and follows them into the suit.

Jezebel wrote:Analoy's too skinny.

Clad in the hotel robe gives Jez a sturdy, "Yes Ma'am" when she is ordered to get pampered. Replying to the part about about her job, Analoy says, "That is and has always been my job." She gives Jez a wink, drops her robe and reveals her very athletic body before she climbs up onto a massage table.

Livin' La Vida Luxurious...

Although Kat's attempts as schmoozing leave a bit to be desired, it's pretty clear that her taste in hardware has caught Jimmy's attention as he eyes her accoutrements in much the same way as a Yukon bear trapper might look at an exotic dancer after spending a year out in the wilderness. "Hmmmmm... ah yes, I'm pretty certain we can expect Representative Orn to make a prompt visit. And I'll make sure to have someone bring your effects from the Ambassador at once." He gives Kat a wink and a nod before excusing himself. "And now ladies -- and gentleman -- I leave you in the tender hands of these men and women. Please allow them to take every opportunity to treat you in the luxurious manner you deserve."

And true to Jimmy's word, Ript Orn arrives 10 minutes later -- at least a good 15-20 minutes ahead of the Northern Gun rep. The Erdano's rep arrives about 10 minutes after that. All three reps take their respective orders with a minimum of fuss and a maximum of promises that their respective merchandise will be delivered as soon as possible.

Speaking of deliveries, at about 9:30 a bellhop arrives with Kat's possessions from the Ambassador as well as the news that Mr. Rickenbacker sends his regrets but he will not be able to come to the Palace but will be available at his company's offices until 5pm. Right on his heels a robed individual arrives and asks for Nuriel. They relocate to one of the bedrooms and converse in hushed tones for a few minutes before coming out. "I'm sorry, everyone, but urgent business at the Collegiate Arcane requires my presence..." she says with a grim expression. "I'll be back as soon as I possibly can." She gathers up her gear and follows the stranger out.

The rest of the next hour is spent enjoying (or in Kat's case, suffering through) the ultimate in relaxation techniques. The staff are every bit as good as advertised, quiet and professional yet pleasant. They answer any questions politely and warmly but make little conversation otherwise. As they are wrapping up and packing up their pampering paraphernalia, there is a knock at the door. Another bellhop comes in escorting a female juicer with half of her head shaved and the other half sprouting long black hair. The bellhop bows slightly to the juicer and lets himself out.

Movin' on Up, to the East Siiiiiiide...

It takes a little while, but Bettie manages to find the Palace Hotel and Casino. When she mentions Fixer Jones' name at the front desk, a well-dressed blue-skinned D-bee snaps his fingers and motions for a bellhop to take her to the suite. The bellhop knocks on the door to the Majestic Suite, escorts her in, and immediately lets himself back out. She finds what must be the tail end of some ultra-swanky luxury pampering service as some staffers are packing up various massage tables and assorted accessories. The two women Fixer described are there along with two others and a (rather handsome) man.

((OOC: You can still post your goodbyes to Fixer if you'd like, Bettie, but please consider yourself in with the main group as of now.))

When Associate Orn arrives, Kat's all smiles. Kat introduces her new partner and explains she parted ways with Paragon. "Mostly 'cause they wouldn't get on board selling that power source we found to you, or anyone." So, Kat explains, the pair are setting up a new team. Kat does her best to minimize the appearance of her scars during her meeting with Orn, going as far as to put her armor back on, if possible before he arrives.

The NG rep doesn't get quite the level of friendly attitude Orn did, but the City Rat appreciates a good rifle, and buys one with enough LE-Clips to make a impact.

Kat makes some griping noises about her armor. "Man, I got to patch this suit up. My backup suit, too."

Kat will make no qualms about ogling James should he strip. In fact, the look on Kat's face will likely approach a leer.

James grabs some food as it comes in and continues to sip his coffee. When the pampering starts his first impulse is to refuse the massage, That's a lot of contact, not my bag and also a good chance for someone to slide a knife in your back. After seeing Jez's reaction to Kat refusing the massage he has second thoughts, No need to be a prissy little high maintenance teammate. Take the gift as its given. James smiles and looks at Jez as he gears down, "If all of you have no nudity taboo, I can adapt to that. After all, we are supposed to be a team right?" James takes his nakedness as far as he can by walking to get more food and refilling his coffee before heading over to the massage tables. He looks the masseuse up and down and says, "Sorry to be a pain here friend but if I'm going to lie here unprotected with my life in your hands, I'd like to make sure you don't have anything pointy you can jam in me. " James tries to make it a joke but then gives the guy or girl a full pat down before getting on the table. Once the massage is done James asks for a facial, manicure, pedicure, body scrub, body wrap and then has his hair cut and coloured a slightly lighter shade of brown. Once it's all done he looks at Jez and says, "You really know how to win people over. Thanks, I needed this."

When all the non team members are gone James finds a time to talk to Jez and Kat. "I did a little work this morning and thought I would share what I've found. I'm not sure how useful it all is but you never know. Right after we checked in last night the night shift clerk went missing. I'm not sure if it's related to us or not." James pauses for a bit and then adds with a rueful smile, "Also, Mephisto's Whoresman are offering a substantial reward to anyone with information on the theft of a bike and the assault on a couple of their members. All they have right now is that it was done by three light skinned women."

"They must be talking about Jez, Fi, and Nuriel." That's Kat's knee-jerk utterance to the news.

This news from James gets Kat thinking, however. Maybe we can bait more of them into a trap offering to sell them info. Should I keep poking this bear? By Hades, they murdered a buncha other people while trying to kill me. They deserve more bodies.

"Stop me if this sounds horrible, but you think someone offering to sell them information might pull a few from the main pack? Preferably a few with more spiffy stuff to go through." Kat nods at the bag in the corner. "You know, before they realize someone's hunting them. On that note, I'm pretty sure the tails you and Analoy picked up last night were part of the vigilante group known as the Red Terror. My old group, the Paragons, teamed up with them to bloody up the Greenskins last year. If they have the two I think you had on you watching them, I bet the Horsemen have moved near the top of their target list."

After a pause, Kat continues. "Now, I may be pushing for this more because they tried to kill me, but knocking down a MercTown gang is pretty good for establishing a solid reputation and finding decent work. Otherwise, it's likely our first few contracts will either be from double-crossing no good employers; or lame low-pay shit like caravan duty."

Kat claps James on the shoulder, and makes an aborted attempt to do so to Jez. "Mull on it, will ya? First though, we got a hangar to go rent."

Bettie has a look around at everyone present before saying anything, her eyes giving the male in the room an up & down with an appreciative smile, "Niiice, man candy! Not that the girls aren't good looking either...". Bettie approaches the closest of the two Fixer Jones told her about, if both are side by side, so much the better. Without preamble she offers the piece of paper she was given with her left hand and states matter-of-factually, "Mr. Jones sent me, said you might be looking to hire. Name's Bettie Houser.", and she offers her right hand for a shake, trying not to hurt anyone.

When Kat, Jez, and James begin talking about the tails from the night before, Fi's ears perk up when Kat mentions the Red Terror. What do they want in all of this, hopefully they were just interested in the noise made last night. Fi thinks as she idly watches local news on the television.

Pre-Pampering
James Miller wrote:James smiles and looks at Jez as he gears down, "If all of you have no nudity taboo, I can adapt to that. After all, we are supposed to be a team right?"

Jez has absolutely zero qualms about nudity. Her Arismal body was the product of millions of years of her species' evolution and thousands of years of intense social selection. She was damned proud of her natural body like any Arismal. Besides, the A.D.F. was totally meritocratic and egalitarian when it came to the performance of one's duties. Women showered, bathed, shit, and fought right alongside men. Civilians still held such social taboos to varying degrees, but that was an impractical and rather ludicrous luxury for men and women in a military organization. Jez smiles. "No problem whatsoever." She unzips her fatigues down the front and wriggles and shrugs out of them in short order. The small clothes come off just as quick, and without preamble she lays down flat on a table, points to the nearest male masseuse, and beckons him over to get to work. "Cover the imperfections, good man. Dye the hair a lustrous purple--I'm pretty sure my roots are showing badly, then give me the works." Jez glares at him with lethal intensity. "No surprises. Ask me for my permission before doing anything. That includes everyone else. I don't want to accidentally kill anyone here."

What a good-looking specimen he is. Jez smiles. "Well, I want to have a pleasant memory to remember each of you by in case I see your insides hanging out of you, or see you turned into pink steam." Jez winks. "Just joking...mostly. This is a dirty world. I think people who fight to make it a better place deserve a bit of a reward."

Jez holds her chin between a thumb and a forefinger. She lets what's said by James and Kat sink in for a moment and pauses to think about it. Well, perhaps it was naive to think we could just come right out the gates swinging. Perhaps establishing a good reputation would be of value. Seems Kat's been down this road before as well, and knows the ins and outs of how this town works better than I do. Jez drops her hand and looks at Kat with seriousness and intensity behind her red irises. "Agreed. Do you think we should we destroy them utterly, or leave them shattered as a cautionary tale for other gangs?" Once she has an answer either way, she'll accept it and add, "And yeah, I think it's time to get down to see about a hangar. I can't believe that guy wouldn't make a private call." Jez shakes her head in disbelief.

Post-Sales Call
Bettie Houser wrote:Bettie approaches the closest of the two Fixer Jones told her about, if both are side by side, so much the better. Without preamble she offers the piece of paper she was given with her left hand and states matter-of-factually, "Mr. Jones sent me, said you might be looking to hire. Name's Bettie Houser.", and she offers her right hand for a shake, trying not to hurt anyone.

Jez notes the proferred hand. She takes it. "Most people just call him 'Fixer.' Whaddya do, Bettie?" That's some strength! Jez feels her appetite resuscitate like a ravenous ghoul. "Zoot's tit, I'm hungry!" Jez releases the woman's hand and heads for whatever's left of the morning's feast and starts in on it like she hasn't been eating all morning...which she has. What the frak has gotten into my appetite all of a sudden?

Lore: Magic 53%: 1d100 = 21 (Trying to recognize Bettie's TW Juicer Harness)

"I'm pretty sure the Horsemen will behave like cockroaches. Namely, we won't be able to exterminate them easy. Knocking them down say...... 21 members seems like the right number for me." The number matches exactly to the number of bystanders killed that day at the Swap Meet.

Kat is secretly pretty glad Jez handles the handshake with the Juicer. Kat likes all the bones, joints, and connecting ligaments in her arms to stay in one piece, thank you very much.

"Fixer musta heard about the old biddy one-upping him." Kat breaks into a grin. "I was gonna stop and see him anyway, but he must already know plenty through this towns rumor mill." Kat reads Fixer's note.

Kat waves off Jez's general 'whaddya do' question, and issues a more direct one. "What kind of Juicer are you, Bettie?"

Bettie is about to answer Jez when Kat comes up with an easier question to answer, "Pleasure to meet you two and to answer you both, Dragon Juicer. But like I told Fixer Jones, I'm looking for work that pays and where no one wants to get into my past too much, if you don't mind?".

Jez's features scrunch up momentarily in flummoxed concentration. Then she shakes her head slightly. "That's Roo-tahm to me. What the hell is a 'dragon juicer'? I mean, I've run across a juicer...I think...maybe once or twice, but I didn't know there were different kinds. What the hell makes someone a 'juicer' anyway?" Jez looks from Betty to Kat, then to the rest of the group in the suite. "I'm a frakking alien to this world, folks. Someone throw me a bone here." Jez pauses as the rest of the woman's statement sinks in. What the hell are you hiding? Or hiding from? "If you're hired, can we expect heavily armed trouble to find us? On your account, that is?

Kat lets out a low whistle at the words 'Dragon Juicer'. Damn that's an expensive process.

"Oh there's all kinds of juicers. Hyperions are geared for speed, for example. I worked with one of those, briefly. Dragon Juicers are about the toughest kind out there. They cut their juice with dragon's blood, basically. What makes a Juicer is the collar." Kat points to the obvious system on Bettie's neck. "Fills them full of steroids and uppers that make them supermen. But it burns them out, they normally die within 6 years."

That pretty much sums up all of Kat's knowledge on Juicer culture, other than Murderthon and Deadball.

Percep: 1d20+6 = 8
JIC: 1d20 = 6 1d100 = 91

Analoy stays quiet as the sales reps come in. Aside from not having any money to speak of, she usually relies on her tattoos to get the job done. When the sales reps are gone and the massage has come to an end, Analoy slips off the table and gets dressed in her green outfit.

As she freshens up what is left of their breakfast buffet, Analoy listen along to what the others are saying. Speaking up so she can be heard from where the food is spread on the dining table, Analoy says, "From what the Red Terror girl said to me, we might not want to go kicking at the horsemen just yet. It might be a good idea to sell the bikes to these Booster guys. Get them out of our hands just in case people come looking around."

Moving back into the main room, Analoy adds, "On the other hand, if you strip the bikes down for parts, it might be good to have the bits on hand for our own use."

When the girl that Fixer sent walks in, Analoy moves her 5' 2" frame to stand beside and just bit behind Jez trying to look as imposing as possible in her black sports bra and mini skirt.

Bettie runs a hand through her long hair as she answers, "Heavily armed trouble? Not that I'm aware of no. But, uh...I'd rather avoid heading to Kingsdale for awhile and I don't generally get an excited welcome from dragons, if you know what I mean?", she seems to be telling the truth, or at least some part of it.

Bettie nods her head as Kat goes on, but throws in her two-cents when she mentions the dragons blood, "Ancient dragon in this case, happened to be on friendly terms with one when I got si-...when I had the conversion done.", she gives a half smile hoping to cover her near slip. 'It's been too long since I was around people, got to get it together...'. However, when Kat gets to the part about Juicers burning out Bettie can't help but bite out with no small amount of disdain, "It beats dying withered and frail in bed.", but she doesn't offer any further explanation.

Her eyes shift to the tattooed girl, but she does a double take and smiles wide, "Say, very nice ink selde*. Where can I get some done like that? They seem so...alive!", forgetting that she is being interviewed for a moment she nearly steps toward the small statured by tough looking woman but stops herself, 'Relax a second and listen Bettie, gods getting used to focusing with all this stuff in my veins is hard!'.

"Sorry! So to give you an idea of what I can do, since you asked. I know American and Dragonese, but I can't read either one. I know how to use a radio. I'm fairly good at getting around and surviving in the wild plus I can I.D. most common monsters and such. Um, I can ride a hover-cycle and I've got mine parked outside. I can handle a laser rifle or ion pistol pretty well, but I'm really good with a sword!", she indicates the blade in a scabbard across her back, "I know my numbers pretty well too, I can cook. And most importantly I can brew beers, ales, and such as well as mix just about any drink you can think of without spilling anything. Oh, and I can handle myself in a fight, fair or not."

It's the brewing that gets Jez's attention. "If you know how to distill spirits, sister, I've definitely got a job for you even if it's not in the field." Speaking of which, 3rd Lieutenant Faux needs a cocktail. Heading to the bar, Jez quickly dashes together some white liquors and some fruit juice. That usually works well enough, right? She slams it back and wipes her mouth on the back of her sleeve. "Well, us girls of Merctown need to go find ourselves a permanent berthing. We've still got this suite for the night, but I don't think I could park my tee-arr in here no matter how spacious it is. So unless you've got more pressing matters to attend to, I suggest we all head down to the airport. I'll take my bike, y'all make your way down however best you can. I'll meet you there in thirty." Without further ado, Jez quickly makes sure her fatigues are zipped up in all the right places, grabs her purse and other assorted sundries, and heads out without a further word.

Bettie looks around at the other members, watching as the one called Jez heads out, then turns back to Kat, "So, am I hired and what are we all headed to the airport or should I make myself known to the others here?". She glances around at the others in the suite, her eyes lingering on the only male in the room before looking back to Kat.

"Bettie, we'll call it a trial first, but yeah you have a job. Jez and I are hopefully putting money down on some space for a garage slash headquarters. We haven't discussed exact terms yet for pay, but a fair division is the way I would want it to go. And I'm putting down half the start-up. Also, I'm the one who put money in their hand first." Kat nods generally at the others, indicating James and Analoy in her head but not implicitly through either vocal or body language.

Kat re-bundles her gear, strapping both her spare armors to her backpack. The bullet-hole ridden long-coat with the torn sleeve goes over the armor. The small guns are still in the pockets.

"I'm catching a cab, Bettie. Come with me." Kat looks to the others. "I'd suggest ya'll stick to each other and I'll see you there."

Before Kat leaves the suite, she uses the phone one more time. The City Rat calls her home number.

"Jason, where's mom?"

"I'm back in town. Anything you want to tell me before I hear it on the street?"

"Lost my phone in a desert. I'll try to get a replacement today. I'm off to the Airport to handle a little business. But I wanna meet up with you and mom too. Dinner maybe?"

"Well, tell mom I called."

Click.

Kat then calls down to the front desk for a taxi. Hauling both her backpack and the garbage bag downstairs, Kat is again approximating a high-tech bag lady in general appearance.

And most importantly I can brew beers, ales, and such as well as mix just about any drink you can think of without spilling anything. Oh, and I can handle myself in a fight, fair or not."

Analoy smirks at Bettie when the Dragon Juicer inquires about getting similar tattoos but stays quiet for the moment. After Kat tells Bettie that she's hired on a probationary status, Analoy says in Dragonese, "Seems like you and I have a lot in common. If you wanna put in the time we can get you reading. At the very least we should be able to train together, if you want? I'm pretty sure I can keep up with you, mostly." She finishes with a smile, then nods to Kat and Bettie when they depart for the airfield.

Once Kat and Bettie leave, Analoy looks over to James and Fiona. "It might be best if we leave your truck here for the day. I doubt the Horsemen would think to look here for their missing bikes. We can move it tonight if the bosses lock down a space or we end up dropping them off with Booster. As for right now," Analoy gives a grin and walks over to the phone. Master Ortoza has stayed in a number of places like this and with the money the bosses are spending on this place, I'm sure they comp us a towncar. Not sure why Kat took a taxi. Picking up the phone and dialing zero Analoy says, "Yes, this is the Majestic Suit. I'd like a town car for three people for the airfield. We'll be down directly."

Analoy looks to the others and says, "If you're coming with, lets go." She turns and zipps up the old jacket the bartender gave her and heads downstairs for the car to the airfield.
