The Ogre's Den Tavern & Flop House (166)

Postby Augur » Sun Nov 23, 2014 8:06 am

This tavern has the reputation of being one of the toughest in the Warrens. Fights break out here every night, sometimes escalating to the point where knives and guns are drawn. Which is just the way the Ogrish owner, Stonejist Qidar, likes it. Stonefist is a former bare-knuckles champ from Kingsdale who won the bar in a match against a champion repped by its former owner. Although he is retired, the gladiator remains a fight enthusiast and holds bare-knuckle boxing matches in the alley behind the tavern and in a makeshift ring in a large, spare room. The fights are what draws most of the customers to the Ogre's Den and not the watered-down drinks (cost 3-6 credits); the 8 credits cover charge is well worth the show as drunken fools or hotheads go at it, one after another.

The two floors above the Ogre's Den is a flop house; mainly large open rooms lined with cots on the floor. Those too drunk to go home or too broke to afford anything better can "flop" on a cot for 10 credits a night.

Note: Every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday night, Stonefist runs fight night, a tough-man competition that pays 800 credits and a 200 credit drinking tab for the last man (or monster) standing; this really packs the crowd in. The crowd is typically 30% Ogres, 50% D-Bees and 20% humans.

Jack Looks around at what is Merctown's low point, he looks around just to be sure that no one is trailing them more out of habit than anything, he follows the other groups to the Ogres Den, "Safety in Numbers, that is good. I know if I were in Sidney I would dare go to any new place without the old gange."

"This place reminds me of parts of Sidney."

John comes in right behind Jack and takes an appraising look around. This is much less nice than I expected from Jack's crush recommending it. She's... Minerva? Like the goddess?

John is determining if he needs to increase his size by a foot or two, when Jack says something. "Who is Sidney and why does this remind you of their... parts...?"

And then. John sees something amazing behind the bar. He grabs Jack's shoulder, and points to the massive slab of ogre hanging off the bar's corner. "Jack. Look!... Wait, don't make it obvious. That's Stonefist fucking Qidar! What is he doing here?!? I mean, I heard..."

"THIS IS SO COOL!"

John shoves his hands into his pockets so that he doesn't accidentally squash Jack's shoulder in his excitement.

After ditching her armor and her weapons save the TX-6s at the Haunt, Whisper strides into the 'Den and looks for the other 'mercs, joining them silently.

Hmmm...I wonder if Lulu will come. I really hope so.

"So, um, hi.", Lily says timidly to whoever made it to the bar first.

(((Rolls Held Over)))

Jack after he gets in hides his credit stick under his armor, he speaks to John making sure he is far away from Mercedes the crazy women. He is kinda glad that Mercedes and John are together as he is really wanting to know more about the red headed Minerva. He watches the door to to see when she walks in.

When John says,
"Who is Sidney and why does this remind you of their... parts...?"

Jack looks at John shocked, “Sidney isn’t a person, it is a city in Aussie land. Not one of the big ones they aren’t like ya others which closed their doors to the people outside, We have gangs and Brodkil and Gargoyles, couple of me best mates when I was in the service.”

When they get in, they try to find a table. Jack heads over to one, or will wait till they are seated (yea right)
When John says,
"Jack. Look!... Wait, don't make it obvious. That's Stonefist fucking Qidar! What is he doing here?!? I mean, I heard..."

Jack responds, “Sorry Mate, I don’t know the guy.”

When Jack sees Whispers he stands and waves to her hoping that Minerva is close behind. He speaks up in a loud voice, “Hey lass, over here.”

ROLLS HELD

John turns as Lily walks up to them. "Hi, I'm John," he says, sticking out his hand to shake hers. Then he quickly turns back to staring at Stonefist.

"He used to be the bareknuckle boxing champ in Kingsdale. He's just brutal." John thinks a moment about what Mercedes said. "I mean, he must be rich. He's a champion?"

And then what Jack said about Sydney gets through. "Do... your other cities have people names? I'm not judging, I just want to understand your culture."

Brodkil are big, gargoyles are bigger. I wonder if I make Jack feel more comfortable. That's probably it.

“Hey lass, over here.”

Lily strides over to the waiting group and greets them shyly.
Where are the rest of the Spooks? Did they leave me with these strangers? Asshats!

"Hi, I'm John,"

Lily bashfully extends her hand and nods. "I'm...I go by...Whisper.", she says hesitantly. "Nice to, um, meet you."
Ah God, I suck so much at this.

Jack, smiles and then speaks to Whisper, "Glad you made it, as I said, Jack is my name." Jack offers his hand to her and shakes it if she offers her.

He tries to work it so that every other seat for the two groups, hoping that things would help them get to know the other teams members. He is quite aware of how erratic Mercedes can behave so, he is hoping one of the Officers would sit next to her.

Conditions:
Date: Summer, Friday, June 1, 111 P.A.
Time: 1600
Environmental Effects: None; 85°, light breeze from the east
Location: The Ogre's Den Tavern & Flop House

The sun is still mostly high in the sky outside as various members of the Roughnecks and the Spook Squad filter into the Ogre's Den singly, in pairs, and in small groups. Seeing that it's only four o'clock by the time they cross town to reach the joint, there's only a handful of people currently inside. There's what looks to be an ogre behind the bar putting up tin tankards, a pair of larmac sitting at a table close to the door smoking, lazily drinking a dozen or so beers, and a vanguard brawler sitting at the bar who looks like he's sulking or angry. The poster with peeling edges hanging from the open door, however, suggests that it will quickly fill up as the sun dips below the Merctown skyline:

Lily offers her hand to the guy with the weird accent and the mean-looking redhead in the business suit.
"Hi. Hi. N-nice to meet you. I'm, um, Whisper.", she mumbles to them, quickly looking down to avoid eye contact.

Lily mutters "Excuse me.", having just remembered that she wanted to get another 'pistol' for her PA and uses her headjack's radio to get in contact with Lahz. "Hey, um, Lahz. Can you please do me a favor? Can you get me another shotgun for my PA? And some drum mags? And a bunch o' ammo? I'll be needin' another pistol fer my PA...And I'll pay ya back. With interest?"

Having finished her call to Lahz, Lily radios Lulu, "Hey, babe, you gonna join us?", and then asks those already assembled, "S-so, what we, um, drinkin'?"

"A-a-are you o-o-okay?", she asks, speaking to the girl contemptuously.
Maybe she's retarded. I hope that the rest of the Spooks aren't so stupid. And what a way to dress! Too dumb to know what 'modesty' means, I suppose.

ROLLS HELD

John drops an inexpensive piece of jewelry on the floor so that it skitters past Mercedes' feet.

"Whisper? Good to meet you. With that handle and no armor, you're a mage? Teleporter? Can turn into a ghost?" Then he looks at her suspiciously. "Are you a dragon? You have to say if you're a dragon."

John realizes they owe cover, and starts digging around his pockets, looking for hard cash like furs, jewels or gold dust, so he can feel like a badass. Finding nothing, he thinks, This doesn't seem like the kind of place to swipe a credstick. I hope someone has scrip or something.

"Hey, isn't your friend supposed to be covering for us?" he asks Whisper. "Sorry, I should say 'your colleague.' Just because you work with someone doesn't make them your friend." He then subtly rolls his eyes in the direction of Mercedes.

How can I get booze without going to the bank for scrip?

"Does anyone have actual cash?"

Something John drops catches Mercedes' eye and she watches where it goes intently.
"I can't be distracted by......shiny...um..."

"Whisper? Good to meet you. With that handle and no armor, you're a mage? Teleporter? Can turn into a ghost?" Then he looks at her suspiciously. "Are you a dragon? You have to say if you're a dragon."

Lily shakes her head. I wish.

"N-no. J-just a headhunter. And I'm, um, quick with my guns.", she says, with a mischievous smile and a little hair swipe.

"Hey, isn't your friend supposed to be covering for us?" he asks Whisper. "Sorry, I should say 'your colleague.' Just because you work with someone doesn't make them your friend."

"You mean Minerva?" Yeah, she's SUCH a Minerva.
"Who carries actual credits anymore? I guess I can use my card."
If she needs to pay the cover, she'll offer up the Non-Secure Black Card whose balance is 3,000 credits.

The two larmac give you a once over when you walk in, but otherwise ignore you, content to smoke and drink. The vanguard brawler glance up before turning to his drink.

Those of you looking for a table manage to find a pair close enough to one another for both groups to sit close enough for a communal conversation. The only real downside is that it is close to the sulking vanguard brawler.

The ogre behind the bar finished putting up tankards and turns to look around the bar. He notices the newcomers and gives them a hard look, then grins and breaks out his spiel. "Ey dere, welcome to da Ogre's Den, I'm Stonefist. 8 credits cover, an' you best buy sum drinks as well." He looks fairly serious about the cover charge, and it doesn't sound like he was making a joke about the drinks. He seems to accept John's stares as his due, and looks like he might be ogling the ladies a bit.

"If'n yer int'rested, its Fight Night t'night. Ya can join or jus' spectate, bit it'll be a full house. Any of yous is int'rested in fighting, c'mon an' tell me, so's I can put ya's on da card. It doesn't seem to matter to the ogre one way or another which you decide to do, it's just friendly advice he is passing out.

Anyone wanting to pay their cover will find Stonefist more than happy to take payment off a card.

Mercedes and John
Mercedes and John, when you sit at the tables, you can hear angry muttering coming from the vanguard brawler, something about "this week is my week dammit"

Conditions: John is at +1 foot (should have been mentioning that earlier)

Huh, I wasn't honestly sure that would work on Mercedes. Probably won't work again, but I'll have to remember that.

"If you don't mind paying, I can get you back later. All I have is my bank card, and I bet they'd be only too happy to accept that. I don't need to have my card hacked the night before we go into the woods."

He shrugs, "I'm not sure who uses actual credits, but NGMI bank still makes and distributes them, so somebody must. I've seen plenty of them in small towns when people weren't going for all-out barter."

John then points at her guns. "You're quick with those guns?"

Not a threat...

"I wonder if Will is going to sign up to fight. Or the Commander."

(((Rolls Carry Over)))
Jack hears the Ogre talk about cover charges. And sees John mention he doesn’t have anything to cover. Jack say, “I better get the seats and a few drinks before Minerva gets here or we are thrown out.”

Jack get up and goes to the far side of the bar away from the others and introduces himself to the Bartender using his best Aussie, “Sir, Mr. Stonefist, my name is Jack, I am new to these parts. I have come to pay for the cover charge and start a tab, we will have about 14 people. Do you have snacks? Um appetizers?” Jack leans in and whispers, “I do have a credit stick. Would 300 credit starting to cover the expense?” or is 400 better?"

Whatever the Ogre says Jack smiles and slowly reaches into his armor for the stick. He then slowly will make the transfer and then sticks it back into his armor.

"The fight, I'm not sure how you decide who fights whom, but if you need a Dr., I can take care of cuts."

Bleary-eyed from his intense studies in the guild, Vheld stumbles into the bar with Sil at his side and immediately straightens up when he observes his surroundings. His lips curl in a sneer- the shifter doesn't like people, fisticuffs, food, or alcohol, and he can already tell that this outing is going to be a pointless distraction from his studies. I suppose someone needs to ingratiate ourselves with our new allies. Why the Hades this chore has fallen to me I've no idea. He sighs. Oh well. Maybe if I throw some money around they'll leave me alone.

At the request for a cover charge, Vheld sidles up to the bar and produces a cred-stick from somewhere on his person. He barks to the bartender "There will be up to 14 of us. Take off 300 credits for our cover charges and the first round of drinks. The rest is a tip, to ensure that our business remains just that." Eyes glittering from beneath his hood, Vheld won't linger overlong to try and intimidate the bartender, but he won't exactly try to avoid it either. If Jack beats him to paying, Vheld shrugs and puts away his cred-stick.

Vheld himself will wave off any drinks sent his way- forcefully, if need be, and find the darkest corner that is at least nominally by the others and plant himself there. He will lean his staff against the wall, and Sil will curl up at her master's feet. As John and any others filter in, Vheld will address them without preamble.

"The guild library makes mention of our target. Our new employer... was not exaggerating the scope of the threat before us. Unfortunately, those sources I could find have little to offer in the way of practical suggestions for protecting ourselves. However, I did find one account from a survivor of one world that was overrun- that suggests that if nothing else, the threats to our souls can be evaded if not defended against. Once we reach the operational area, both companies should institute a rule that nobody goes off alone. Period." Delightful.

"Calmarse, chicas. I am here to pay your way." She steps in front of Jack and offers up her card to pay the entrance of the gathered Spooks and Roughnecks. She speaks to Stonefist. "If any more of us come through, I am paying their cover and their drinks. One round for all of my friends, please. So far it is just us." She points out the Roughnecks and Spooks she's covering so as to not allow any of the already present patrons get in on her kind offer.

Once the drinks show up, she sips hers while looking over the Roughnecks present. Esa pelirroja parece obsesionada con la alta. Sé que es mejor cruzar a un compañero pelirrojo. Tal vez me uniré a uno para tomar una copa. She sidles up to Jack Killian and has a seat. "Hola hombre. I like your accent. We are both not from here. Where are you from?" While she waits for his response, she lowers her cloak's hood with her gloved hands and blows a few errant strands of hair from her face, otherwise a picture of perfection.

Will walks in with his Wingboard under his arm. Why would she suggest this place? This is not nearly as nice as The Flight Room. Or The Dragon's Head. Or The Sphinx. Or anywhere else I've been here. This might actually be the shittiest bar in MercTown. What a terrible idea. Will heads over to the table that he notices the rest of the the crew at and has a seat. He waves down the bartender and says "A pint of your best Dwarven Mead."

Once his drink shows up, he goes to continue his earlier conversation with Vheld, but notices Sil curled up at his feet. "Whoa! That's a big doggie! Is that your traveling companion? Is he friendly?" Will notices the glowing blue eyes and rethinks that last statement. He listens to Vheld's warning about the mission. "Well, that's certainly not the information I was hoping for, but it's information nonetheless. I was just at the guild were they still playing... Frontgammon? Hell of a game." Will takes a sip of his drink. "So Traveler. Tell me a tale of your journeys. I don't like this bar and most of your companions seem rather mundane. I'd enjoy chatting with a fellow master of the magicks."

ROLLS HELD

As the tiny parade of people run up to the bar to pay, John's eyes widen. "Wow, if I'd know everyone would rush to pay, I'd have done that sooner. I foresee Mercedes attempting the same move in the future." He ignores the angrily muttering vanguard brawler since he has no intention of fighting.

When the waiter/waitress comes around with the drinks, John downs his in one go, frowns, then says, "I need the Juicer one. Or the one for, like, monsters? And I need five of them. Please."

Will walks in as everyone is coming back from the payment-huddle around the bar. John waves at him, and shouts, "Are you signing up to fight? There's fighting!"

John looks at Minerva admiringly as she moves to sit next to Jack, then leans forward and whispers to her, "Are you a goddess?"

Finally, when Vheld delivers the bad news about the soul-stealing. John reaches out to shake his hand and introduce himself. "I'm John, I should probably stop calling you Mr. I Know About Soul-Stealing. You say you didn't find out much, what DID you find out?"

John then sees the dog. "Hello pup!" he says, reaching out to give the nice dog pets.

(((Rolls Carry Over)))

Jack moves back from the bar as Minerva steps in front of him. When she says she is going to pay for the drinks he says, “I was just going to pay for the snacks and the cover charge. And of course, any drinks before you arrived.”

He goes over with her and sits down next to her. Yes, he is love. Well he hasn’t felt this strange since the time up on the pyramid with the Goddess and the were jaguars. But that wasn’t really him that was Xiucoatl in full control. This is different she is here and she is sitting next to me her gloves hands, what did she just say?

"Hola hombre. I like your accent. We are both not from here. Where are you from?"

He watches her remove the hood and lets her flowing red hair come alive. The way she puckers her lips and gently blows the few strands out of her face. He comes back to reality and speaks in a whisper near her ear., “I am from Australia. I arrived a month ago due to the Ley line storm. I somehow got teleported to Mexico and was spit out of a Volcano and arrived in front of the roughnecks, I met a couple of gods, one controlled me like a, not a puppet, umm more like he was in here and I was just along for a ride.”

”Finally, I meet a beautiful redhead, and I am awestruck. I don’t know what to say, and I am afraid I will do something wrong and wake up from this dream.”

Conditions:
Date: Summer, Friday, June 1, 111 P.A.
Time: 1615
Environmental Effects: None; 85°, light breeze from the east
Location: The Ogre's Den Tavern & Flop House

A heap of confusion as to who's paying is resolved as Minerva enters the door sees the folks vying to pay at the bar and swiftly hands over he black card for the ogre to swipe. The glisten in the ogre's eyes is one with which anyone who's met Mercedes is quite familiar: unrestrained and unapologetic greed. "Fourteen heads, you say? Very good!" He swipes her card on the small reader he has built into one side of the bar, sees the amount on the black card, looks up at Minerva and smiles. "I'll run you a tab if you're buying for yourself and all friends. I see you're good for it." He calls out in a booming voice for all to hear, "Let's start off with some light refreshments to slake your thirst on this warm day! A round of cool ale for the lady's friends!" He gets busy filling and lining up pints of ale on the bar for (player characters) to take and enjoy.

One of the two Larmacs looks up as the place seems to come to life and asks no one in particular, "Somebody win big at the casino, or what?"

John Altfeld wrote:When the waiter/waitress comes around with the drinks, John downs his in one go, frowns, then says, "I need the Juicer one. Or the one for, like, monsters? And I need five of them. Please."

After the first round of ale gets to the table, and ask for something much stronger, Stonefist laughs. "M'kay, ya don't look like ya can drink da stuff, but I'll make ya sum Four Horsemen. Dat should do ya." When he heads back to the bard, you see him pouring 5 double shots with a mixture of alcohol. He brings them to you shortly and grins at you, "Here ya go. Dis should do da job. Don't drink to fast." The shots look like a swirling mix of browns and blues, and a potent smell of cinnamon, mint, and what you presume to be rocket fuel.

William Summers wrote: Will heads over to the table that he notices the rest of the the crew at and has a seat. He waves down the bartender and says "A pint of your best Dwarven Mead."

Stonefist lets out an enormous lagh when you ask for the mead. He grabs a mug and goes to the taps and fills the mug with a frothy yellow drink. "'here ya go. Ain't dwarven, but is da only mead I got.

Jack Killian wrote:Jack get up and goes to the far side of the bar away from the others and introduces himself to the Bartender using his best Aussie, “Sir, Mr. Stonefist, my name is Jack, I am new to these parts. I have come to pay for the cover charge and start a tab, we will have about 14 people. Do you have snacks? Um appetizers?”

When you ask about snacks, Stonefist hands you a worn plastic menu, with a variety of common bar offerings.

Jack Killian wrote:"The fight, I'm not sure how you decide who fights whom, but if you need a Dr., I can take care of cuts."

Stonefist shakes his head, " Preciate da offer, but medical stuff is covered. Gots a house doct'r ta deal wit da injuries."

You also notice two more people enter the bar. One is an elf woman, pretty enough to notice, who yells to Stonefist when she gets inside "Sorry I'm late boss, they kept me over at my other job." She goes behind the bar, grabs an apron, and then starts going around to all the patrons, asking if they need anything. She has a perky attitude, and seems to casually flirt with the customers, especially the women.

The second is a tall, thin and unusually pale man. H e looks around the bar, walks up to the bar, gets a drink, and then finds a table to sit at as he sips on his drink.

Lahz arrives at the Ogre's Den from the Bank with a large (apparent) Borg bodyguard bearing a 6ft sword across its back shadowing him. He looks much bulkier now clad in some heavy EBA (no helmet) as he crosses to the Bar to locate Whisper, "Hi, I got your message. Ray is on the way to handle purchasing, anything else you can thing of to put on the list."

He waves a greeting to the others as the Bartender is calling out for a round to be served up for the Roughnecks and other Spooks and nods at Tony (who has Lahz's helmet in 1 hand), "Grab a spot on that West Wall there. If there's any potential for danger, go non-lethal initially. No sword tonight unless someone else pulls one first."

Eventually the Psi-Tech takes a seat near Vheld, "Had to stop at the Haunt and the Bank. I haven't tried Astral Recon yet because we don't have enough info on a rough locale yet. Do we know anyone specific who was taken under its influence? Do we know any of the cult members? Any word from the Magic Guild?"

As the time passes at the ogre’s den, continues to be infatuated with Minerva. He is concern about the security especially when one of the crowd mentions about Minerva coming in to a fortune. “That might be trouble. And some people might think that we are an easy mark. Especially a drunkin fool who likes to fight, which over the next few hours this place will be full of them.”

So, Jack uses his powers to keep track of the crowd. (Enhanced Perception Rifter 25,10 ISP 30 Mins, increasing hearing and sight.) he looks around and starts sizing up the others in the room. Listening in on there conversations as he is also listening to his friends at the table.

He is curious about the tall, thin and unusually pale man, the Brawler and the two Larmacs.

As the room starts to fill up, John’s radar starts bringing in more information, making him slightly on edge.

John looks at Minerva for a beat. “Yeah, having good parents is pretty important. I’m John. I like very fast walks and am a god studies enthusiast.

Pinnacle of human evolution? What did they evolve humility into?

This is Mercedes.

Why is everyone acting like I know Mercedes suddenly? I’m not a Mercedes wrangler... oh crap, no one thought of distracting her with jewelry before! I AM a Mercedes wrangler.

“Jack I need to start drinking RIGHT NOW, but I haven’t done this since the, uh, accident. It’s imperative that if I do get drunk that I am not allowed to fight in Fight Night. Even if that means Will knocking me out somehow.”

John drinks half of one of the five Four Horsemen...s.

... Borg with a free sword. Potential indoor threat.

“Unless that Borg wants to fight and bets its sword.”
Definitely Not a God. Yet.

Vheld shrugs. "The Spook Squad is primarily contracted for various forms of wetwork in North America, but I doubt you would be interested in that. We recently traveled to the island of Crimea in Europe- there, the spirits of ancient monsters who had escaped the domain of Hades were endeavoring to summon a monster known as Morogot to Earth. The fiend was turning the landscape itself into some sort of bizarre, corrupted hellscape. We had to simultaneously navigate the monsters infesting the island and a bunch of trigger-happy, cybernetic Russians." Vheld pauses. "Frankly, I'm a little surprised we made it back alive."

"Then there's the time we got called to Mexico, deceived into opening some sort of magical box, and forced to fight an avatar of the Hindu death goddess Kali. But there really isn't too much more to the story than that. Some pretty, glowing caves where we fought her."

John Altfeld wrote:"I'm John, I should probably stop calling you Mr. I Know About Soul-Stealing. You say you didn't find out much, what DID you find out?"
Lahz wrote:"Had to stop at the Haunt and the Bank. I haven't tried Astral Recon yet because we don't have enough info on a rough locale yet. Do we know anyone specific who was taken under its influence? Do we know any of the cult members? Any word from the Magic Guild?"
Vheld shifts in his seat- uncomfortable at being the focus of attention by so many. No help for it now I suppose. He coughs once and replies, "I am Vheld. As for the Guild, we don't take the time for a thorough search of the archives, but I was able to find three primary sources that touch upon this Nxla. The first holds that is a descendant of the ancient, great Old Ones- an alien intelligence on par with the Splugorth, the vampires, and their ilk. In other words, confirmation of the seers' statement that it is Very Bad News. The second was the account of a refugee who fled their home dimension after it was overrun by hordes of zombies and this Nxla manifested itself. Again, little new to offer beyond independent confirmation of what the seers already told us."

"The third source was a tome on rune magic, and specifically attempts to block soul stealing. Unfortunately, they were unsuccessful. Monstrously so, if the body count is accurate."

Vheld pauses and his eyes unfocus as the shifter thinks. After a minute or so, he shrugs again. "Rune magic is the most potent magical force that I know of when it comes to the stealing of souls. If dedicated rune mages were unable to find a preventive measure, I suspect that even my most powerful incantations for mental manipulation won't aid us in guarding ourselves from soul theft, and my protective magics all focus on physical threats anyway. It's possible that Nxla's soul-stealing is magical in nature, in which case I can attempt to nullify it but frankly I would prefer it if my going toe-to-toe with an old one wasn't our sole line of defense."

"To my mind, that leaves us with three possible avenues to search for a way to protect ourselves from Nxla. First, some sort of specialty branch of magic- frankly, nothing I know but we might stumble across something in the magic zone. Second, some sort of technological magic or psychic dampener. That's not exactly my area of expertise, but if anyone has any contacts at the Coalition this might be a good time to reach out. Third, some sort of psychic defense. For that, we'd need to consult a psychic specialist. We have a powerful psychics here" Vheld glances at Minerva "but I'm getting the sense that nobody at this table has the theoretical knowledge we need. That leaves the Coalition again, or failing that these 'Psyscape' people the seers mentioned. I've never heard of the place, but if they can travel the astral plane they must know a thing or two about psionic abilities. To say nothing of that hokey name." Vheld shrugs again. "Maybe it's worth trying to find them- especially if they already know about Nxla and are preparing to combat it."

Vheld pauses and reaches into his shirt to touch his medallion. Anything you'd like to add, psionics expert? Have you ever heard of Nxla or anything like its ability to steal souls?

John notices that even half of one of the Four Horsemen is pretty potent stuff. Not potent enough for him to be drunk off just the five of them, but enough that even with his enhanced constitution he will be at least buzzed after the five of them.

Vheld wrote:Vheld pauses and reaches into his shirt to touch his medallion. Anything you'd like to add, psionics expert? Have you ever heard of Nxla or anything like its ability to steal souls?

Vheld feels a sense of annoyance coming off his medallion Oh, now you want to talk to me. Have I finally become worth talking to? It is bad enough you wear that other awful jewelry, but you could at least make me feel appreciated. You should show me some more appreciation than that. You feel the mental equivalent of a long sigh before the medallion continues on. I have no knowledge of a Nxla. It is not a demon or deevil lord of some kind. And I do not know of any intelligence's named so either. As for stealing souls, I know they can be bound by contract to a Hell. And they are fundamental to one of the dark arts of the Hells. As to how to steal and bind one, that knowledge is beyond me, although obviously it is a requirement to make a rune item.

Jack responds, “Aye Mate, go for it, got ya covered. We will leave no table unturned and the glasses will be empty.” Jack lifts a glass to john and winks. He then goes back to, "Well now how about your story?”

"Thanks Lahz.", Whisper answers with a bit of a blush. "Um, I did think of one more thing. I could use a force field for situations like we're in right now. One o' them Naruni things ought to do the trick."
She brushes her hair out of her face and shrugs slightly, sheepishly. "Sorry."
He probably thinks I'm an idiot. Maybe he's right. I need drinks!

"Can I get a bottle of peach schnapps, please?", Whisper asks the server politely.

Conditions:
Date: Summer, Friday, June 1, 111 P.A.
Time: 1630
Environmental Effects: None; 85°, light breeze from the east
Location: The Ogre's Den Tavern & Flop House

Time passes as everybody gets comfortable in the bar. The Larmacs bellow for another tray of beers, and are lighting a new set of cigars, these a little more pungent that the last ones. The tall pale man wrinkles his nose at the smell of the new cigars, but doesn't get up or move. He seems to be nursing his drinks, and it seems as if he might be slightly nervous. The Brawler hasn't really moved from where he is at the bar, he just keeps up a steady flow of drinks. The waitress is busy flitting around to all the tables, and Stonefist has gone back to cleaning mugs in between needing to make drinks for the customers.

The waitress makes sure to check on everybody about every five minutes. She seems relatively polite but there is a glint in her eyes that makes you think she can handle herself. She keeps the drinks coming as you run of a drink. On her most recent trip, she asks, "So, were any of you wanting food from the kitchen?"
Whisper wrote:"Can I get a bottle of peach schnapps, please?", Whisper asks the server politely.

The waitress gives Whisper a good once over, "Honey, are you sure you're old enough for drinking?" She gives Whisper a friendly grin, "I'll see what we have, I know we have some schnapps behind the bar, not sure if peach is one of them" A couple minutes later she brings Whisper a bottle, "Looks like we did. It's the last bottle we have sweetie"

Over the last 15 minutes, a few more people have come in, mostly staff it seems. A man joins Stonefist behind the bar, and another woman joins your current server with helping the patrons. Another Larmac joins the two already there, greeting them with enthusiasm and bellowing for drinks as he lights up a cigar. A relatively attractive brunette comes in, and goes over to sit with the tall pale man, greeting him like they may be more than just friends.

The last to come in is a well tanned man, dressed in a manner that makes you think he comes from the New West, and a Qiuck-Flex dressed similarly. After they get into the bar, they take a good look around, and when the man sees Minerva and Mercedes, his eyes light up and he saunters over, looking very confident in himself. He strolls up to the group, the Quick-Flex just behind him, and with a slightly accented but smooth voice he begins, "Hola ladies. You both are such beauties, I could not help myself, I had to come and introduce myself. I am Roberto, and I would love to make you aquantance this evening, if you would permit me and my friend to join you. And if not, at least let us share a drink, si?" His Hispanic accent make the words sound very charming, and his posture and facial expressions give you no reason to think he is lying.

What are you doing?

Minerva
"You know, usually, those are the kind of things I have to pull from someone's mind. Not the ones they say aloud. You met gods you say? Well, hopefully they prepared you for what is coming next. This mission sounds to be very tough. Forgive my ignorance, Australia? I have never been. Tell me, where is it? And how is it?"

Jack is feeling a little bit more comfortable around Minerva and responds, “The god gave me some power for the work I had to do when I was down there, but since I arrived here in Merctown I no longer feel him with me. I think this mission will be very tough, any unknown is difficult. Australia is in the Pacific Ocean but way to the west of South America. A desolate place. People live in a few major city that keeps the other people out. I am of the later, those that were left out of the city and left to fend for themselves. Not too many of those called D-bees. Seems most serious evil have left us alone or forgot about us and think we are not worth the trouble."

Jack listens to her talk about herself. "I certainly like the evolved idea. But I see there is still problems with accepting others has not changed even in your society.”

When Mercedes kicks Jack he hardly notices it due to the Armor he is wearing But he wonders about the look and why he was kicked.

"Oh sorry.", she says flatly.

“Not A problem.” He says to Mercedes.

Jack continues to keep an eye and ear open to those around him as the crowds fill the place. He smiles when William talks about them taking on the Vamps and the Sploogies.

When the waitress comes in and ask about food Jack smiles and said, “Yes any spicy food and sampler of what they have?”
The tall Pale man interest Jack he uses his See Aura to figure out more about him and those that came in to greet him.

John looks around at all the new people and doesn't think much of it. I'm not going to step in and tell Mercedes and Minerva how to live. Maybe they're down with this. That one guy clearly also speaks Spanish. Mercedes is going to pick his pocket, anyway.

He downs the rest of his half-gone drink and does another one.

"Ha ha! Yeah, I sometimes still get weird-tasting burps from that..." John then gets oddly quiet. "I did not enjoy that experience."

"If you killed a god, do you have any pointers?"

As the mages talk about their spells, John listens, trying to gain valuable knowledge. But then he gets sidetracked by what Will is saying and tries to determine if this is a spell to summon a demon and how seriously he should hate this invocation.

Vheld wrote:"... Again, little new to offer beyond independent confirmation of what the seers already told us ... The third source was a tome on rune magic, and specifically attempts to block soul stealing. Unfortunately, they were unsuccessful. Monstrously so, if the body count is accurate."

Lahz nods thoughtfully, "Any names in that refugee account? Is this guy here in town, or even on Earth? ... Maybe we could ask a bit more from an author."

Vheld wrote:"To my mind, that leaves us with three possible avenues to search for a way to protect ourselves from Nxla.

"Well if the Coalition is regarded as a hope for us, then we're in it rather deep. They haven't had much luck with the Magic Zone. As for Psyscape, I am familiar with it ..." *I see no reason to openly mention that I grew up there in front of a bunch of random strangers and Warrens rats though.* "Psyscape is far past the area that the Seer was ranting over, should be several hundred miles ... I am neo-human. The pinnacle of human evolution as fast... sorry, you probably heard my say this to your friend already. While she is there, she asks the others if they would like any food or drink, and makes sure to ask the newcomer (Wakiza) what he would like to drink and if he wants anything to eat with it. Upon seeing the state Whisper is in, the waitress flashes her a flirty smile and a wink.

Do you want to rethink your order or shall I tell the chef you want whatever fish got dredged up recently with some grape juice to wash it down with?" He looks around see's the waitress and calls out in a loud but sure voice to her, "Eight shots of tequila por favor, I must show the ladies a good time!" He then turns back around to the ladies and smiles a rather flirty smile, "So, ladies, what do you do for a living. Wait, let me guess, such beauties as yourselves are models perhaps si? Please do not tell me you are kept women on a leash, that would be a shame." You notice his companion grabs a seat close enough to hear what is going on with Roberto, but also where he can see the door as well.

Of course beautiful. Would you ladies like to start of with some tequila?

Perception: 1d100 = 7 / 82% (+15% for either cybernetic hearing or vision if applicable)
JiC: 1d20 = 19 1d100 = 73

Conditions: About every minute or so Wak will scan the bar with Thermographic vision to see if any invisible 'things' are wandering around

Wak nods to the waitress, "Yes, I'll take a whiskey and a well done steak sandwich. Thanks." Should be hard to get food poisoning from that. Wak looks around the bar for any threats or anything interesting. When he sees the men come up to Mercedes, he thinks, Poor bastards. They don't know what they are in for.

Streetwise-- 1d100 = 92 / 55%
Detect Ambush-- 1d100 = 63 / 78%
Detect Concealment-- 1d100 = 7 / 73%

He thinks back to Mexico and the nights he spent with the Lemurian Mana’Koa. Wonder how often she comes to Merctown? Spirits, she is the first female company I've had since the war. Can't believe its been that long. Can't let that happen again. Unfortunately Wak's thoughts drift to his team that he personally killed during the war and he starts to sour. Shit Wak, get your head out of that mess, it was years ago now. They knew what they were doing and every damn one of them deserved what I did to them. However, his mind goes to Ravella's headless corpse as that was the last woman he was with prior to Mana’Koa. She was beautiful, but evil all the way through. His mind is starting to race down a bad road and he needs an outlet, badly. He heads to the bar to speak with Stonefist, "So, what are the rules? Armor, no armor? What about those with tougher skin?"

John is shocked by the number of people ordering food.

Why is everyone ordering food here? Is this a secretly good food place? Is that why Minerva brought us here?

"I bet it's called the Burster's Delight because it bursts out of both ends after you've eaten it."

When Wakiza mentions Badgerbold Cartographers, John raises his hand. "I'm actually friends with the owner. Well, maybe acquaintances. He was kind of weird last time I saw him."

He nods to Vheld and Lahz. "I... know someone else I could ask at the Collegiate. He knows a lot, so he might be able to tell us something. People are always saying he went crazy from seeing too much offworld. I think he's crazy like a fox. And also likes to laugh at inappropriate times."

As Roberto and his buddy sit down, John wonders if they're pickpockets. Then he wonders if Mercedes is a pickpocket.

When Wakiza asks if anyone is fighting, John shakes his head. "Not me. There's too much chance of an accident. I'm not willing to risk someone's life over beer money." He frowns. "Maybe if this were the big arena."

And then Wakiza walks away. Ha! I knew the commander would fight!
Definitely Not a God. Yet.

The waitress give Wakiza a nod, "Of course sir, I will have that out as soon as possible"

Wakiza notes that the way the Quick-Flex is positioned, he has a good view of the entrance and almost the entire bar. If you wanted to ambush someone in the bar, he is in the ideal spot to do so.

Stonefist turns to Wakiza and looks him up and down. "Da rules are simple. Nat'rul folks only. No armor, no wep'ns, no magic, an no mind tricks. No mod'fied folks either. If'n ya meet does tings, I tink we has a couple spots open. Yous want in?" He looks at you expectantly, awaiting your answer.

The waitress shoots Jack a grin, "We have a platter called Bursters Delight, a variety platter of hot and spicy foods. Would you like one or two? They feed about 4 people each"

“Two platers, one which is weaker for the ones that can’t take the fire, Fuego.”

When the Waitress talks to Mercedes he tries not to laugh at her reply to Mercedes. He quickly ask, “Oh can I have a bottle of whisky and several glasses.”

Jack is still not too sure about this other group.
