Dinner Party
    Date: January 1, 110 PA
Time: 2030 by end of post.
    Temp: 3°, Bitterly Cold
Weather: Mostly Cloudy, Only a light dusting of snow and plenty of ice
Ley Line info: There are multiple ley lines in the area 40 miles away, but none in the facility itself.
Location: Coalition States Undisclosed Research Facility - XRF-1138

The sounds of combat has quieted down, the room's rear exit was closed off, and the only enemy combatant was standing in front of the door. He surveys the room and a grin starts to form. His eyes fall on the disheveled group of the Revenants. Howlett flung far across the room. Drummond caught in a net. Toretto's inability to hit the broadside of a barn. Egan throwing pots, pans, and utensils with his mind. A very large Battlecat he had dropped moments earlier in the other room.

James sits at the far end of the kitchen and yells out over the comms, "Open that door!" He then radios to the rest of the base, "Hostiles have attacked Colonel Black, They are taking her out of the back of the kitchen."

The only reply back on the comms Howlett gets is static...

With speed of a seasoned warrior hopped past the cyborg without fuss. But was confronted with a raging beast only known only as Mane. A thunderous roar echoed through the room, "RRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!" Most importantly was the 415 lbs. of raging muscle of a fully trained BattleCat was in full sprint, and caught the Juicer in mid air [Juicer's Auto Dodge: 1d20+9 = 13 Roll: 1d20+12 = 28 ]. The Battlecat's tackle was impressive and launched the two of them over the kitchen's stove.

But the Battlecat was not done, the Juicer took a swing at Mane [ Strike: 1d20+9 = 14 | Damage: | Parry: 1d20+12 = 29 | Auto Dodge: 1d20+9 = 22 | Roll: 1d20+12 = 26 ] But the Battlecat had other intentions. His claws went deep into the Juicer's flesh. His fingers hitting hard metal grafted underneath the skin. But the real thrill was the blood spurting and splattering all across Mane's face and tuxedo.

Howlett gets up and scurries over to Leighton while Mane leaps at the Juicer; the Cyborg already has his knife out and is cutting away, "Some shit show, eh Leighton?"

Vecny in the other room sorta understands Howlett's orders, and is slow to react. His mind pushes into the CS Complex and tries to open the doors he just closed off. The security within the system initially was relaxed, but when Howlett informed the rest of the base about the intruders, Vecny could feel there was a presence. He starts to work on the electronic lock, and the giant tumbler slowly moves. Finally he is able to decrypt and unlock the door. And that is when he see's the two skelebots pointing weapons at him. "Authorization code! You have five nanoseconds to comply! 5... 4..." GM Note: Vecny, you have 3 options. 1. Provide the code 2. Fight 3. Flee

Back in the main room, Snoopy is the first to realize the door that just closed, opened back up. "Guys?!"

What are your intentions?

The cyborg's head turns towards his captain as he continues to slowly split the netting with his vibro-blade, flexing his arms to create some tension for the blade to cut against. "Thanks for the assist Doc, I'd ask if this is unusual, but I am betting on this being par for the course." Whatever a 'par' is.

He shuffles to the side slightly as the juicer pretty much explodes, trying to keep the blood splatters to a minimum on his new suit. "We've almost got it!" he says as he feels the restrictive net giving way.

James smirks at Drummand's comment about par for the course. "That's about right." James says as he uses his built-in laser scalpel to cut the mesh on the net away from Drummond. Neural maces, nets, flashbangs, tear gas canisters, and silenced projectile weapons... how the hell did they get in here, and who dropped the ball in security. James thinks angrily as he cuts the combat cyborg out of his predicament. When the door is open again... "Mane. Hunt and Kill. I want the Colonel back ASAP." James calls over the groups radio.

"Don't worry Leighton, we'll be following them shortly."

Perception 1d100+26 = 94
JIC 1d20 = 17 | JIC 1d100 = 58

Feeling a physical threat near his body, Vecny works his way back towards himself at a break neck pace. Recalling that 'Bots were asking for a code, Vecny tries to recall the data files and anything about a stand down code for Skelibots in the facility.

Techno Bowl__

  • Damage Control and Disaster Response 53 | 1d100 = 41
  • Pilot: Robots and Power Armor 80 | 1d100 = 100
  • Intelligence 53 | 1d100 = 70

Assessing the situation and CS standard procedure, Vecny gives the code, "Green Delta Five Charlie Sierra Four Zero Four."
Deciphered
Green to identify friendly. Delta 5 is squad of 10 with a Captain and a lieutenant. Charlie Sierra Four Zero Four is the squad's designator.

Pausing for a moment, Vecny hopes his code could be heard by the rest of the squad. "Red Alpha Two Grid Kilo Two Five, Move Out."
Deciphered
Red means hostiles. Alpha is ranking officers higher than the 40-4's. Two is the number alive. Grid coordinates should place the kidnappers just past the Kitchen. Just assuming the Skelibots do not the difference between the Kitchen and the Latrine.

Vecny continues to sweat with his back against the wall and he waits to see if his codes and commands are recognized by the 'Bots. All the while his eyes never leave the two rifle barrels pointed at him.

Perception (52% Normal Bar, 90% IFF Bar): 1d100 = 53
JIC Rolls: 1d20 = 8, 1d100 = 28
Condition: Conscious, but recovering from a Neural shock (Stun Penalties: -8 Strike, Parry, & Dodge; half Speed & APM)

With the jet of blood across his face and tuxedo, staining his near-white fur and the once-starched white shirt of his formal ware, Mane looked down at his slain adversary and the terrible condition he was in. Though still seeing double, the savage triumphant cat grabbed the Juicer by the ear and sliced it off with a swipe of a single steel-rending claw. For safe keeping, and perhaps out of old habit, he pocketed the ear as a trophy.

The taste of the Juicer's chemically enhanced blood made its way to his lips, and Mane gave his upper lip a sideways lick. It tasted terrible, like the juices of an embalmed dead body. By his buds, the man was more modern science than proper flesh and blood, which hypocritically made the cybernetically enhanced Battle Cat angry with the cheat. He spit the foul flavor from his mouth.

James Howlett wrote:When the door is open again... "Mane. Hunt and Kill. I want the Colonel back ASAP." James calls over the groups radio.

"Uuuh" Mane's reply was more of an affirmative grunt than an ineligible word.

With his head still spinning form the lingering effects of the Neural zap, the hulking cat made a dash for the door at the far end of the kitchen and burst through it. As soon as he was on the other side, Mane used the totality of his senses and training to scan the next area and assess the evolving situation.

CONTINGENCY PLAN #1
If the Juicer isn't dead (I read "blood", not "dead"), Mane will slit his throat before executing Howlett's orders.
Strike Roll: 1d20+1 = 8 (net of penalties)
Damage: 9d6+2 = 34 MD

CONTINGENCY PLAN #2
If there is a reception of baddies waiting on the other side of that door, or perhaps trigger happy ED-209's ... uh, I mean Skelebots  ... Mane will Auto-Dodge to the best of his ability. Should he be woefully outnumbered, he will dive his way back into the kitchen and give the others a sit-rep. If, however, it's just one or two flunkies, he will go on a murder rampage and slaughter them (and hope that Juicer was their best, and not the norm for this group). Should he have to fight in melee combat, he will make use of his Paired Weapon ability and the Simo combat maneuver to simultaneously parry and slash all day long; however, if they are using fire arms, he'll have to rely on his Auto-Dodge to close the distance before the claws can come out.

Attacks Per Melee (reduced): 4
Pool of Auto-Dodges 12d20:
15, 20, 7, 16, 9, 10, 9, 16, 18, 18, 11, 15
(each at a -5 penalty; net of penalties)
Pool of Auto-Parries 12d20:
14, 2, 18, 5, 12, 15, 2, 7, 13, 16, 4, 11
(each at a +6 bonus; net of penalties)

Claw Attack #1: 1d20+1 = 8 (net of penalties)
Claw Damage: 9d6+2 = 35 MD

Claw Attack #2: 1d20+1 = 2 (net of penalties)
Claw Damage: 9d6+2 = 33 MD

Claw Attack #3: 1d20+1 = 11 (net of penalties)
Claw Damage: 9d6+2 = 34 MD

Claw Attack #4: 1d20+1 = 20 (net of penalties)
Claw Damage: 9d6+2 = 42 MD

CONTINGENCY PLAN #3
If the area is already safe and clear, Mane will radio in a quick sit-rep using his cyber-radio: "Area clear. Proceeding forward."
After which he will use what information his senses and skills tell him to follow the trail. His sprint ability is still in effect for a short bit (forgot to roll it earlier; see duration below) to compensate for the reduction in his speed from the neural mace zap.

Sprint: 1d4 = 4 minutes

Skill Rolls
General Perception and Identification Friend or Foe (see above)
Bionic Eye set to Thermo-Imaging mode to pick out any tell-tale heat clues.
Detect Ambush (98% base) 1d100 = 74
Tracking (people) (90% base) 1d100 = 56
Detect Concealment (80% base) 1d100 = 80

Sense Psychic & Magic Energy (75% base) 1d100 = 70
Sense Supernatural Beings (72% base to ID) 1d100 = 44; (28% base to track, 50% base if psi or magic is in use) 1d100 = 48
Kitty Hearing:
* Discriminate between two sounds (75% base) 1d100 = 7
* Judge Distance & Precise Location of Source (98% base) 1d100 = 93
* Recognize & Identify Prey by Sounds (90% base, 70% vs technological sounds) 1d100 = 69

Brains, charm and exceptional flying ability are not really helping Snoopy at this point in the dinner. He lowers the pistol and vibro-knife level with his hips. Noting that the door has re-opened he calls out to the team over the radio, "The door in the dining room is opening up again." Then he ducks behind the nearest cover.

Once there's something solid between him and the door he takes another look. As his eyes peer around the edge of his cover, his pistol peers around too.

If nothing is immediately coming out of the doorway, Snoopy backpeddles in his goofy crouch towards the rest of the squad. He's not sure how he managed to separate himself from them, but he's dumb to be alone like this. "Captain, do you want me to maintain surveillance in this room or link back up with the main group?" He shrugs as he leans up against a door casing. He feels like a lot more could happen and any second, and there are still far to little data to even begin to guess at the real situation.

After Action Debrief
    Date: January 1, 110 PA
Time: 2040 by end of post.

As the group springs into action you hear a klaxon sound and Colonel Black's voice sound. "All aggressor units, stand down. 40-4th. Stand down. Live fire drill has ended. All units, stand down." You see all remaining enemy forces immediately go to the floor, laying on the ground, sliding their weapons away, sounding out their surrender. The juicer which Mane had been facing dodges just out of the way, and does the same thing. Even in his blood haze, Mane can tell the sounds that every soldier is trained to do after a drill. "Private Ethan Gregg surrenders peacefully to proctor forces!"

The sounds of the surrendering soldiers, calling out in Coalition protocol prompts them that they need to do the same. But their suspicious minds don't accept it until they see the "dead" officer stand up, and Black walk out with her captors trailing, and eventually surrendering to the security forces which stream in, disarming everyone (except for Leighton since his primary weapon was built in). She then leads everyone to a very large conference table and sits them all down. Hostages and the 40-4th all are on one end.

"Sorry to pull a fast one on you Revenants, but I needed to see what we were working with in terms of teamwork and capability. One of the mission profiles you will be undertaking is VIP escort and VIP recruitment. Both mission profiles will put you on one side or the other of this scenario or one very like it. Could be at a casino, a fancy resturant, or other public or semi-public event. Either way it will require you to be dressed well, armed to the teeth to the level that it does not show. Captain Howlett and PFC Leighton have the advantage there, but not by much. One thing about this team is we chose it and configured it to meet a wide variety of threats. Private Gregg, what's your assessment of Private Mane?"

The juicer was obviously not planning on being talked to, but he clears his throat and chimes in. "Took one hell of a hit and got back up from it. One more hit and I'd have been dead. I was suddenly regretting that they didn't know this was a drill." A couple others echo his sentiments. Another, one of the people Drummond shot chimes in. "Ma'am, supply may have turned all their weapons down to low power without it being obvious, but I promise you a low power beam like his still hurts like hell. Ma'am." A few others murmer agreement.

Black nods. "Thank you Staff Sergeant Nichols." She then plays a multiangle recording of the fight for all to see. Once it is done, she turns back to Captain Howlett. "What is your assessment of your team's raw unrefined response? Take your time." She looks to Snoopy. "I'm going to ask you the same question. Try not to repeat your boss. Look for what he missed. I'm going to ask each of you actually, though you can focus on your own response instead of the overall team's. Retain discipline and decorum, but you can freely give your thoughts once called on. You'll be called upon in order of rank."

This is the order you are all called in. But you are allowed to make short comments on the discussions of others in the group.

James thinks for a brief moment, trying to find words to cull the emotional response he is currently having. "It was good Colonel. Raw and unrefined, we moved on threats and sought to reacquire the hostage and neutralize the kidnappers. I deduce that in the next fifteen to thirty seconds from the point we were called to stop, we would have over taken the kidnappers and either eliminated the threat or subdued it for questioning. That being said, there are some issues that will need addressed at a later time, and this is mostly due to the relative newness of some of the soldiers on the team." James says with a slightly exhausted voice.

"I believe that if we knew we were truly on duty, the kidnappers would not have gotten nearly as far as they did." James adds before looking over at his team for a moment. "That is my assessment ma'am." James says finally to let the colonel know he is done.

Bastards! Drum thinks as he shucks off the last of the netting only to find out that it had been a drill. Don't care that this was a practice drill, but I am going to have to figure out how to check my systems myself anytime a technician works on me to make sure they have futzed with my implants. He grumbles out, "Thanks Doc for the assist."

It takes a good thirty seconds for the anger, frustration to leave his face. Still he is glad to see that the Colonel was unharmed and the other officers were still alive and that it really wasn't that easy to break into a security C.S. facility.

Colonel Black wrote:Black nods.

Drummond stands up to deliver his assessment.

"Ma'am, being literally the newest member of the squad and not having any familiarity of the capabilities of my team, we were woefully unprepared if we were supposed to be guarding your safety. Despite the rehabilitating effects of the grenades, we still rallied and were on the offensive in under a minute. My main goal was to quickly become the greatest threat in the room to give my team time to recover and engage. Being captured by the netting effectively took me out." He turns to his captain, "No disrespect here, Doc. Like I said, we rallied quickly, I am fairly certain that my previous squad would not have been anywhere as successful in the time before the drill ended."

The cyborg looks down at his body, "While still armed, this chassis is pretty much stock, regardless of our duties I am all for modifying this frame with every concealed weapon and sensor possible to provide the squad as many tactical options as possible."

Perception (52% Normal Bar, 90% IFF Bar): 1d100 = 53
JIC Rolls: 1d20 = 8, 1d100 = 28
Condition: Recovered from a Neural shock

With his pulse still racing, Mane took in his surroundings now that he was beyond the kitchen door and hot on the trail of Colonel Black's abductors. Despite his dizzy head and double vision, he was able to pick up on the sounds going on around him, the smells in the air, and the telltale sites around him. That was when the voice spoke over the PA system signaling the end of the simulation, and Col. Black casually started walking back towards the scene of the so-called crime.

It took Mane a moment for his brain to piece it all together, but by the time Colonel Black passed by him the reality of what just happened hit the cat like a sledgehammer.

"Uuuuuuuuh..." Mane said to the passing-by Colonel, momentarily at a loss for words. With one hand he fumbled to put up a salute, while with the other hand he reached in his pocket and withdrew the trophy ear he took from the juicer. "... Your man might want this back."

As the scene played out and the drill came to complete end, the big cat's head finally cleared up and his wits and balance finally return to him. Along with the others, he went to the debriefing room and took his seat along with his teammates. As the colonel explained herself, all Mane could do was stare in wonder at the one-eared Pvt. Gregg and pondered, 'How the fuck are you still alive?!?'

CS High Command wrote:... I'm going to ask each of you actually, though you can focus on your own response instead of the overall team's. Retain discipline and decorum, but you can freely give your thoughts once called on. You'll be called upon in order of rank."[/b]

When it came to Mane's turn at the end of the rotation, the hulking cat reamined seated. He spoke in deliberate soft tones as to not make security jumpy and try to put him down. "Firstly I'm glad to see that security does not actually suck that bad around here. I was wondering how these guys got all that hardware in here during the cluster fu... uh, um, I mean drill. I blame myself for not noticing any suspicious tip-offs beforehand. The setting and event made me too complacent. And lacking my normal combat gear, I was vulnerable to that neural mace that came out of nowhere. ... Is there some kind of cyber-stuff I can get to make myself immune to that shit? ... Regardless, I think it really came down to our situational awareness and degree preparation for a fight."

Mane then turned his head and looked directly at Pvt. Gregg. With genuine concern in his voice, he asked, "Are you alright? I hit you... like... really, really hard. Like... kill-anyone-in-this-room hard. And my team's blasters may have been nerfed-out, but my claws ripped into you full-force! Seriously, you okay?" Then Mane quickly added, "... OH!! And sorry about the ear thing... I've been seeing a doctor about my aggression issues."

(mini reply)
Private Gregg has a Robot Medical Kit pressed over his ear and shakes his head. Quietly he answers, "Happened before actually. Gargoyle bit it off too. It's cybernetic, just a a good copy is all. And I know, trust me. You got way close to my hide. But I heal quickly thanks to the Juice." He shuts up, not sure he can spare saying much more.

JIC 1d20 = 11
JIC 1d100 = 57

Sensory Equipment 1d100 = 10/85% (To replay, review footage)

Intelligence 1d100 = 11/52% (Also analyze group tactics based in information available)
Detect Ambush 1d100 = 21/45% (Analyze group tactics based on signs of danger)

"Ma'am," Snoopy answers after a long moment of thought, "We performed adequately enough. But we were ineffective at first. Our reaction time was slow and we were uncoordinated. We are all experts and highly trained, and that negated some of our lack of coordination. We all went separate ways and with no clear objective. I am most certainly including myself in this. I understood my role as an officer more readily than my role in this combat scenario. I have spent more time in fights in the air than in fights out of my armor, and that was very very apparent in this test. Aside from my performance, I believe the whole squad needs significant training in a variety of scenarios. We have not been drilled as a spec ops team. I am not spec ops trained for ground operations. I don't think all of us are. And when our furry tank gets knocked out in the first five seconds of combat, we need to know exactly how to react."

Snoopy looks off into the distance for a moment. "I don't mind a fancy party one bit, but if I'm walking into the dragon's mouth, I'd like to be with a squad that reacts as one being when the stuff hits the fan."

Perception 1d100+26 = 103
JIC 1d20 = 20 | JIC 1d100 = 9

One minute is conversing with bots with their big guns trained at his face. The next minute there is silence across the net. Vecny makes his way to a networked camera and sees the combatants as well as the squad and the hostages all standing and chatting. Some of the squad seem a bit pissed off or more so. Vecny figures he better get back to the flesh work and retraces his steps back to his body leaning up against a wall near a door panel.

The re-entry into his body is like watching electricity ripple or pulse. It comes on in surges and starts at his hand on the panel and works its way down and across his body. Finally his limbs are re-energized and he is able to stand. "Excuse me. I seem to have missed what is going on?"

Vecny stands there and looks around waiting for someone else to fill him in.

The silence from those around prompts Vecny to give his analysis of the situation.

"In regards to the unit's effectiveness, I would say some consideration would need to be taken for situations similar to this where we are away from our equipment."

After Action Debrief
    Date: January 1, 110 PA
Time: 2100 by end of post.

As everyone finishes, the team gets some pointers and feedback from the OpFor, almost all of which is very respectful of the cohesion they have for such a hastily thrown together team never having worked together before. There is some harsh, but tactful assessments for everyone, but all of it boils down to the team simply does not know itself well.

At the end of the after action report, Black stands. "Well, the next two weeks will be spent in a series of drills and classes for under cover, followed by two weeks of low level field work to work out the kinks. Don't worry, it'll be a textbook seek and destroy. No need trying to ruin my brand new team with a quest to save the world on their first op." This elicits some chuckles as most of the officers know at least the basics that the core of the 40-4th comes from the storied, though disbanded CS 110th. As it turns out the unit designation had been retired and its former members were allowed to wear its patch along side their own unit's patch. The dress uniforms of Howlett, Torreto, Grey, Mane, and Jericho all had it displayed.•

After everyone is done, she dismisses everyone but Snoopy and Howlett. "Gentlemen, there are four potential targets on this list. Each a different approach. They are all your mission. The first is your milk run. Plan the other three and get me an ops plan by weeks end." She shakes each man's hand. "Smith will liaise for you. He reports directly to me. I will probably be in command level meetings for the next few weeks. If its routine, Smith can handle it. If he can't, he'll contact me." ••

GM Notes: RP it up for next we do interludes. POST NOW! GET TO THE CHOPPA!
• I will give 500 XP to whoever researches how such patches would be displayed. This is a real practice, though usually only for VERY famous units. Among special forces, this is the 110th. Also, I'll give anyone 500 XP if you come up with a story about another such unit. Max of two more units, but multiple stories can be told. Feel free to split them up in different posts (for post count). They can be recollections, posted as after action reports or using the commendation form from personnel records.

•• 250 XP each if you come up with four very basic NPC description of the targets. They should probably be magical or psychic in nature, although a skilled infiltrator or assassin would count too. 250 XP extra if you determine the type of mission. Even if everyone submits, submit yours too! I will choose the ones I like the most and I may mix and match. Everyone gets XP that enters some. The first mission is a standard building breech in Old Chicago. Very SWAT like, but with MD weapons. Yay!

Dual or even triple unit patches were not per regulation. They were references to different organizations, normally Division, Army, and a patch referencing the location of service. Most of these patches were sown in a row on the left sleeve of the uniform with the Location first, then the army, followed by the division.

Some of the patches were intergrated. <-- This would be the way I would do it. Go with a Psi-Bat as the primary Insignia. Below that a chevron or rocker with the 110th. Below the 110th the 40-4th. link the rocker or chevrons by chains or maybe barbed wire to the Psi Bat Insignia and the chevrons or rockers above or below. You keep the Battallion insignia to maintain uniform and the rockers or chevrons to denote the former and current units. (31May2018)

Multi Patches

For a Squad, Platoon, or Company, there is only a service ribbon to denote involvement in a special mission or operation.

Shoulder insignia denote the Brigade or Division a unit belongs to. When I was in the National Guard, the Field Artillery was part of a Cavalry Brigade, but our patches showed the station or state location, which was the Snake River Battallion. When wearing the dress blues, the Battalllion patch was worn on the left sleeve and the unit insignia was worn on the lapel or on the head gear.

GM Mini-Update.
The higher ups leave, but Colonel Black lets them stay and coordinate as needed. More food (less fancy) is brought out, as are wine and coffee, as requested. Major Smith comes up to Howlett. "If you and the LT will circle back with me in the morning, we can get it all taken care of and things moving." He shakes both men's hands and moves on.

This is now an open RP thread. You can post here for the entire quad and have any number of conversations. Get to know each other, discuss things, etc. The time frame will remain the same, but if you can have a "timeless" conversation, it can happen here. This can be a great way to boost your post rate.

Also, keep doing extra credit too.

Re: All Dressed Up, but Where to Go?

Postby Vecny » Wed Jun 06, 2018 1:46 pm

Vecny returns to the wall near the panel he accessed. Collapsing to the floor, he appears exhausted and worn out. "Never did that VR trip with so much danger present." He looks like he is ready to fall asleep.

Re: All Dressed Up, but Where to Go?

Mane looked down at the pile of simple sandwiches and finger food, then looked down at his own growing belly. Through his battle damaged tuxedo, he gave it a poke, and in response his fat little tummy made a slight jiggle. "Uuuuuuuuh... I'm getting soft."

Instead of grabbing any of the sandwiches or a bottle of wine, Mane reached for a pot of coffee and the largest mug he could find. After pouring himself a cup of black bitter brew (just theway he liked it), the hefty Battlecat inhaled a prolonged sip.

After Vecvy made his tired statement, he said the first thing that came to mind. "Need a hug?"

No sooner did the words escape his lips did he feel a slight electric shock in his skull behind his right ear. That damned behavioral implant was still at hard at work trying to turn him into a Peyote sucking, tie dye shirt wearing, save the polar bears, damn dirty hippie. Mane winced in pain at the realization, hoping the neural maze overloaded the chip.
