This Going to the Dogs Already - Hammond Operations Center

Postby CS High Command » Thu Sep 06, 2018 8:26 pm

This Going to the Dogs Already - Main Team
    Date: January 9, 110 PA
Time: 1030 by end of post.
Temp: 2°, Bitterly Cold with a wind off the lake driving fog into the town of Hammond
Weather: Partly Cloudy, Only a light dusting of snow and plenty of ice
Ley Line info: A little over a mile from the nearest Ley Line; 4 miles from the nearest nexus to the North and 6 miles from the nearest nexus to the south.
Location: The Free City of Hammond at a warehouse.

The flight to a military depot and transfer to a civilian truck for transport to Merctown goes well. The team is in Merctown at their spartan barracks in the Eclipse Transport Company by the evening. It takes two hours to suit up, get the trailer situated with their gear and the truck and trailer ready for transport. It's 12pm when they are ready to set out. They load in the back and lay down to get some sleep or rest while their driving team does its job. They arrive at a check in point at 8:00 and send a laser transmission to a drone waiting at high altitude. This sends the drone zooming off and the truck moving on towards its objective.

The team arrives at a closed warehouse at 1030 hours. They are actually early, and the driving team backs up to the rolling gate they will drive into later. Video feeds from the truck are fed inside the trailer, so the team can see what is going on in some monitors built into a wall. Howlett is sitting at them, using one of the computers built into it with his headjack connection. Now is only time to wait. While stopped, the team takes time to get suited up in body armor and sidearms, leaving longarms in the lockers for now.

Their gear all says Spyre Tactical Retrival* and fits like a glove. Their weapons are not new, but are very well maintained. Same with their armor. They don't look like a new outfit, but neither are they beat up. Despite the unifying patches/logos, their gear is all mish-matched paint jobs, as one would expect in a small merc unit.

Just in Case: 1d20 = 16; 1d100 = 21
Conditions: None.

James sits in the modified cargo container, his body gently rocking as the truck makes it's way to the Free City of Hammond. James looks at the screen of his computer, but doesn't seem to be reading, just silently thinking. James takes a minute to shake his head and pinch the bridge of his nose, before closing his computer. "What's the ETA?" James asks knowing damn well how long they had left as a counter slowly ticked away in the corner of his vision. "Everyone get their gear squared away?" James asks looking at Egan. Though again anyone can see the obviousness of the comment as James trying to stave off a great deal of boredom. Sighing, James gets up and slowly makes his way to his bunk and lays down, but he isn't trying to sleep, just relaxing. Always like this as a mission gets under way.

Perception 1d100 = 10/64
JIC 1d20 = 14
JIC 1d100 = 27

Skill Monkey
Sensory Equipment 1d100 = 79/85% To use any of the available sensors to look outside
Military Tactics 1d100 = 27/75% To get everything, and when the time comes, everyone in the right place
Intelligence 1d100 = 28/52% To utilize what he sees outside to make their plans better.

Detect Ambush 1d100 = 69/45% To look for traps!

With a sigh and some obvious disdain, Snoopy--Tiny Tex for now--suits up in the Gladius light power armor. It's better than running around in his skivvies, but he's got 1000lbs of pure speed strapped to the roof and it just gets to sit their for the moment. Mach One, 20,000 foot ceiling, no wonder the Icarus is banned in CS territory. He smirks, thinking, When I'm flying that bitch, I hope my IFF works. Not that they could hit me, but getting shot at is never fun.

When the Captain goes for a siesta, an odd thought itself, Snoopy tries to put in practice all the things he learned over their extensive training period. And as much as he wants to do something, part of that training, a hard part actually, was just to let everyone go about and do what they are trained to do. He also doesn't repeat any of Howlett's commands. He watches the monitors, checks and rechecks his gear, and even reads anything handy. At one point asking Mane to have a peak at his Bible. Like the Icarus, no wonder religion is banned, he thinks after reading a few pages.

But that little voice in his head, the one he's been suppressing for a long time now pops back into his head and mocks him for that thought. So, banning something powerful is good? Something that gives people hope? Something that says 'peace' is a good thing? Is that it?

Snoopy shakes his head, rubs his eyes, then his temples all to rid him of that horrible voice. Snoopy believes with every fiber of his being that the Coalition is the best hope for humanity. The leadership is working for the entire population of the aligned states, and for the population of the continent too, despite the hatred of the disillusioned on the outside.

For a second as these thoughts flash through his head he doesn't want to give the good book back to the battle cat. But his better judgement says don't mess with the cat's trifles.

So he goes back over to the command station and watches monitors. He takes some meaningless notes. Doodles on those notes. He hums the Into the Flames theme song, out of tune.

Perception: 21% vs 1d100 = 57 (+15% vision, +25% salvage, +25% contraband)
JIC: 1d20 = 11, 1d100 = 16

During the trip, the heavy cyborg sits relatively motionless. When awake, he banters with his new team, the ice broken now that he's been properly hazed for falling asleep during the briefing. He taps his fingers rhythmically on his legs.

As the team gets their gear on, Drum checks his weapons. He'd been wearing his armor from the beginning. He checks the location of the rail gun and it's ammo so he knows where to go if he needs it in a hurry. He sighs as he puts the NG-P7 away. At least a few of us should have some heavy weapons.

The NG-45LP is put into it's holster. Drum grins to himself as he thinks about the grenades he has stored in his leg compartment. Well at least I have one surprise available. He checks the pistol to make sure that it hasn't been adjusted to be non-lethal. Maximum firepower, baby.

When the Captain asks about the gear, he finally speaks, "Doug Blackwood ready for action!" and then gives a jaunty salute.

Perception (72% base): 1d100 = 76

It felt strange to Mane to be in a vehicle with his old team and not be in the driver's seat. To pass the time he shifted restlessly in his seat and read from the pages of his Bible. Despite the much-needed distraction, he found himself having to reread several lines and verses due to his wandering thoughts. Consequently, he welcomed the change when the orders came down to suit up and get ready.

After placing his book on the bench, Mane went over to his locker and withdrew the large suit of Titan Juicer body armor. Though he preferred his old Coalition CA-6 EX suit (particularly the one with red stripes and silver spikes), this one offered nearly as much protection and would help him blend in well among the mercenary set. After he secured the final clasp on the armor, the big cat donned his new load-bearing harness and webbing. And in the tactical holsters on his thighs, he equipped himself with an NG-45 Long Pistol, and in the other his trusty old Q1-02 Stopper ion pistol.

Mane opted to leave off the heavy guns until it was time get out of the trailer. Strong or not, those things were heavy... not conducive to comfortable leisure.

Snoopy Toretto wrote:... He watches the monitors, checks and rechecks his gear, and even reads anything handy. At one point asking Mane to have a peak at his Bible.

Mane noticed Snoopy thumbing through his Bible. While the cat saw the disapproval written all over the man's face, Mane couldn't help but to comment.

"So far Psalm 144:1 is my favorite passage. It puts a lot of things in perspective for me." (OOC: The NKJV is the most metal version)

Mane took no offense when Snoopy put the Bible down. He could tell the man was conflicted about things. Especially those of the positive supernatural nature.

Once he was sufficiently ready for action, Mane reported his readiness. "Kitteon Snow, ready to rumble."

Egan finds himself pacing back and forth inside the small enclosed trailer that the group has been traveling in. -Why didn't I request a scout cycle or something like it to run escort...anything to not be cooped up in a cage for so long.- Despite spending time on the roof of the trailer during some segments of the trip, the scout was clearly restless. When they arrive at the appointed location to disembark Egan was positively delighted, at least until word came back that they needed to wait some more. -Fuck.- Resuming his pacing, the claws attached to his armor pop in and out randomly as he moves back and forth.
James Howlett wrote:"Everyone get their gear squared away?" James asks looking at Egan.
The Doc's voice stops the manic scout in his tracks, retracting the exposed blades with a flick, Egan turns to face James. -I'm not the only one ready to get things moving.- With a shrug of his shoulders Egan says, "All good Doc, if not I guess they're S.O.L." after a short pause he asks a question that probably had already been covered. "Isn't this 'our' warehouse, can't we jump out and open the place up?"

Snoopy looked at Mane curiously, incredulously. He still flipped through the Emperor-forsaken book to the passage the cat had recommended. And much to Snoopy's surprise, he kind of liked what it said. Not the god crap, but the language it used was full of righteousness and sounded like a good fire-and-brimstone speech from the Emperor himself. Rereading it a couple times to memorize it, Snoopy hands the book back to Mane. He says, "Thanks 'Kitty', that's a pretty badass paragraph. I'm painting this part on my Icarus, 'Flash forth lightning and scatter them; Shoot out Your arrows and destroy them.' I'm thinking one line on each wing, big sloppy letters."

Mane nodded approvingly as he accepted back the Good Book. "I tell ya, I'm really digging this God of Humans you guys have. He's all about peace and love when you need him, and total bad-assery when it's time to get down and dirty."

Later as the team sat in the still trailer, waiting to disembark, Mane sat there in silent contemplation. Egan's fidgeting around with his mechanical claws made the big cat smile a bit in amusement. Oh, if only the man knew the joys of having the real thing on his fingers. Even so, if Even thought a set of sharp toys gave him real claws, Mane could grab a Zippo lighter and call to self a fire breathing dragon.

Egan Grey wrote:"Isn't this 'our' warehouse, can't we jump out and open the place up?"

Mane blankly blinked at the query. "Actually, that's a very good question." he said in agreement.

Snoopy is just as bored as everyone else. During the downtime, Snoopy’s mind wandered a little and then he started going down the rabbit hole of his cover identity. So many fun deatails to be had! He thinks of Freeman, clearly a man who could get in character. This Bible aspect has him intrigued too. It is a symbol the CS doesn’t use, and if he can at least explain the quote... maybe use it to enhance not just his cover...but...hmmm...

“Hey Kitty, what do the call the preacher people for a bible? Just preacher? Archmagus of Jesus or something?” he asks Mane, still seeing if the nickname gets a reaction. “I’m just thinking about some details that would make our cover that much better. If I paint the quote on my wing, maybe someone else has a symbol—across, right?—and we’d call you the preacher. Or Archmagus of Jesus.”

This Going to the Dogs Already - Main Team
    Date: January 9, 110 PA
Time: 1035 by end of post.
Image
A vehicle pulls up and one of the driving team gets out and talks to the driver. Moments later the door rolls up and the truck and car both pull into the warehouse and the door closes after them. The three man driving team opens up the back door, and sets the stabilizers on the trailer allowing the 40-4th to exit. They also go about the task of unloading four hovercycles from their storage cradles atop the trailer. One of them, a large full conversion borg, walks up to Marcus and hands him a datapad. "Sign here." Once he does, he hands him a rifle carrying case containing the requested rifle.

And so it is that the five members of the 40-4th (Vecny having been pulled at the last minute after he came down sick) and the two members of the Recon team meet in the cavernous warehouse as the three drivers unload and set up basecamp. The Recon Team has intel to pass along, and the 40-4th has info to pass as well, but first things first - introductions.

GM Notes
I will PM the officers and Recon team with a rundown of information you have. It is then on you all, in character, to disseminate that to each other. PMs will be incoming over the next few days. Afterwards I will be setting up some narrative tasks to run down clues and track leads. Those of you who play on the Savage side might recognize Plans and Operations; you will all get a crash course. For now, meet and greet, and watch those inboxes.

Side Note, I will take clues (as requested in chat) until Friday.

Perception: 1d100 = 63/75%
Just in Case: 1d20 = 16/1d100 = 20
Conditions: Cyborg stuff.

James smirks as he listens to the others talk about all manner of insane subjects. Like children at play. James thinks, not derogatorily, just as a metaphor really. James eyes open fully when the truck comes to a full stop and he hears the cab door open up. Show time. James sits up from his bunk, and looks to the team. "Wrap it up and get squared away, we have arrived." James says quietly, but loudly enough to be heard by all. With that James stands up and grabs his long coat, throwing it over his shoulders. James grabs his rucksack with his lower right arm and turns to Snoopy. "Once more into the breech."

When the doors are opened James hops down from the trailer with little fan fair, as his bionic legs take the few feet without issue. James looks about and nods to the three assets near the door. "Galen, Lunk, and ____, It is nice to see all of you again. Smoothest ride I have had in a while." James says with a smile, before turning to the other two in the room. "I am Captain Howlett." James says before looking directly at Marcus. "Nice to see you made it out off that pit of a island."

JIC: 1d20 = 11/1d100 = 28

Casper pulls in after speaking with the man about entry. "Well, it's show time. he says to Marcus.

Parking the Adder, the climbs out and takes a moment to groom himself. While he may be geared for field work, he can still hear his mentor saying, "There's always time to ensure you're presentable." He checks his gear, re-situates his arm and watches the people disembarking from the transport. He looks for clues to their personalities and stores them away for later.

James Howlett introduces himself first, "Sir. Specialist Wilpepper, sir." Casper says quite formally. He pays attention to what Howlett and the others are wearing and how the move. He notes visible scars and mementos. He fills his thought with minutia but below that other things turn deeper in his mind. So, what is the Captain made of? Marcus seems to think highly of his capabilities. I can't imagine my being put with him is entirely coincidental. He let's his fore thought be busy with military rules, names and locations while leaving a portion of his mind for critical thought. It was a technique that had been hammered into him by his instructor. She made him hate her and then used psychics to find out what he was thinking and punish him accordingly. It was a brutal way to train but effective. Now it's just second nature.

He waits for further instruction from his new Captain.

Drum steps out heavy out of the trailer, his massive weight causing it to dip and bounce despite the stablizers. One hand is over his shoulder holding his duffel, he scans the space and walks over to the newcomers, off to the Doc's left. He lifts a hand as a wave. Shouldn't we be using code names? he thinks. "Hey, nice to met you guys. Name's Drummond, but uh, call me Doug." He watches the driving team go about their business, but turns back eventually. "So you guys got any leads? Sounds like there is some serious sh$t going on around here."

Casper watches the trailer bob as if some creature was plodding towards the door. Seeing the full conversion borg disembark, he nods to the man-machine as he approaches. He has never liked bionics and pitied those who have to loose portions of their humanity. The full conversion process has always seemed wrong to him, but with the way Chi-town works it's hard to say how the path lead here.

Listening to Drummond Casper nods, getting what he's saying. "Yes, well you can call me Codex if you like." he says with a smile, the name humorous to even himself.

CS High Command wrote:A vehicle pulls up and one of the driving team gets out and talks to the driver.

The Recon Team has intel to pass along, and the 40-4th has info to pass as well, but first things first - introductions.[/ooc]

Marcus gives Casper a half grin as he excepts the datapad and signs, "Ah thank you very much.", he says to the borg as he hands back the datapad and takes hold of the rifle case, "Been waiting on this for awhile now.". Marcus sets the case down on the Adders' rear bumper, flicks open the latches and eyes the rifle for a moment or two before snapping the lid back shut and sliding it behind the passenger seat of the Adder.

Marcus offers his hand for a shake in lieu of saluting, "Likewise Captain, I noticed at least one other from the island is with you still. I take it the rest transferred out or...?", he leaves unsaid the alternative. He turns to the other members of the team, "Good to meet you all, I'm Lazarus Long and if I might suggest, from here on out we stick to code only. This place is secure, but not 100% secure.".

Marcus/Lazarus nods in agreement to the cyborg, "Yes, we've got some leads. But lets wait until you guys have all your gear unloaded and we can settle down at the conference table before we get into that. Unless the Captain wants to things another way?", Marcus looks over at Howlett for a yes or no. The conference table Marcus indicates is just a long folding table with a few ammo crates and folding chairs around it.

Skill Rolls
Military Etiquette 1d100 = 100/109% To know the appropriate level of dressing down he can give Marcus, especially in this sort of weird situation.

Snoopy leaps out of the trailer, the servos in the Gladius absorbing force of the landing. He takes of his helmet with a little flourish and then gives his stubbly new chin curtain a thoughtful . "Hi'yall!"

Taking a step toward Howlett, he says, "I'm ell-tee Toretto." With a look around the room he takes in the new arrivals. He notes that Howlett seems to know one of them. So many new people, one who's a known quantity would be one less to worry about. He tries to appear relaxed as he tries to be proactive. "Codenames from now on, good call, but we do need to know who we are beyond the covers. Because when the Captain or I tell you to do something, you damn well better do it, even if ridiculous Tiny Tex gives the order," he says looking at Marcus. Snoopy is still unused to being an officer, and with a bunch of new people all in cover, he feels that it might be best to establish some semblance of authority from the beginning. It's even more muddied at the moment since the whole cover thing will disrupt the normal routine. He is aware too that his cover is a little goofy. "Captain, we'll get things unloaded and ready for the briefing," he says directly to Howlett.

"Alright we're the Spyre Tactical Retrieval mercs, so let's see how we work as a team getting this stuff squared away. Although, I think Kitty is in charge. Here kitty, kitty..." Snoopy says trying to amp up his Texas accent a little and losing any of his "good soldier" posture and mannerisms.

Grayson made the drop from the semi trailer with nary a sound, his head immediately began scanning his new surroundings taking in the warehouse that has become their newest base of operations. With the conversations and introductions going on around him he finds a spot to drop the duffel bag he'd was carrying, an itch scratching at some memory's in the back of his head. -That voice sounds familiar.- Grayson gives the amigos a jaunty salute and a smile before clapping Lunk on the shoulder as he makes a short circuit around the place. Marcus looks over at the man speaking with a questioning glance to Captain Howlett before responding, "I have to say, I have never heard an officer refer to himself as L-T. But it's your call I guess. As for following orders, I don't think anyone as of yet has done or said anything that implies they were unwilling to do so. And given that this is our first time meeting, if I might suggest, we all should keep the salutes and rigid orders a rest out here. This kind of field op is not the place to have a pissing contest, so to speak. No offense intended sir.", Marcus' tone of voice contains no sarcasm, his words are quite sincere and his voice is modulated in a placating tone, not authoritative or condescending. 'Not sure when he got his bar, but this is going to need adjustment quick if this unit is going to function cohesively.', Marcus thinks.

James smirks at the exchange between the old guard and the new guys. "Get this mess squared away, and get to the conference table in twenty. James says with authority. "Tiny Tex, with me. Grey you are in charge of this lot, Preacher (Mane) and Doug play nice with the new guys." James says while his various arms begin pointing at the people he mentions by name. "Codex and Long, show the boys where to move our stuff."

James looks to Snoopy. "Walk with me Tiny Tex." James says unable to keep a smirk from face. "Really Tiny Tex...? James says his head shaking at the thought of it. “Yeah, those Pecos boys had the dumbest names. Seriously the leader is Saber Lazer or something lame like that.” He replies to Howlett with a wry grin. He pauses, turning seriou, then looks the Captain in the eye. “Honestly boss,” Snoopy says to Howlett, “I need help here. Especially with this merc cover. I don’t have any issue commanding these guys, but I’m having trouble finding the balance. Sometimes I still think like a corporal.”

Snoopy Toretto wrote:“Hey Kitty, what do the call the preacher people for a bible? Just preacher? Archmagus of Jesus or something?” he asks Mane, still seeing if the nickname gets a reaction. “I’m just thinking about some details that would make our cover that much better. If I paint the quote on my wing, maybe someone else has a symbol—across, right?—and we’d call you the preacher. Or Archmagus of Jesus.”

Not having met or conversed with any other holy man other the one he met in that one small town, Mane didn't have a good answer for Snoopy. The big cat visibly scratched his head and thought before answering. "That's a good question... pretty sure the one I talked to called himself just preacher. He was a simple guy, so nothing Grand or Regal would probably fit. So... Preacher should be safe."

CS High Command wrote:... The three man driving team opens up the back door, and sets the stabilizers on the trailer allowing the 40-4th to exit. They also go about the task of unloading four hovercycles from their storage cradles atop the trailer.

As the others disembarked, Mane got about to the business of unloading, like the living forklift that he was. He hopped up on top of the trailer with a casual twitch of his toes and grabbed himself two hovercycles -- one under each arm. With just as much ease the big cat hopped down from atop the trailer and casually strolled over to where it looked like vehicles should be parked. He whistled a happy tune along the way as he did so; Age of Aquarius, of course.

As the others began to chat and make introductions, the hulking mutant cat repeated the process and retrieved the other two hoverbikes. Eager to get this mission going, he wanted to get the menial chores out of the way as soon as possible.

Snoopy Toretto wrote:"Alright we're the Spyre Tactical Retrieval mercs, so let's see how we work as a team getting this stuff squared away. Although, I think Kitty is in charge. Here kitty, kitty..." Snoopy says trying to amp up his Texas accent a little and losing any of his "good soldier" posture and mannerisms.

"Yeah, boss?" Mane replied without thinking first. He then realized his verbal faux pas. "... Oh, I mean... What is it Tiny Tex... Rex? ... Mex? ... Nope, got it right the first time... Tex."

After Snoopy answered, and seeing an opportunity to make his first impressions with the new guys, Mane looked each of the new acquaintances in the eye. Knowing they were on a undercover up, Mane went directly to his alias. With a snarl and furrowed brow, the killer of men made his low, raspy introductions. "The name's Preacher... Preacher Killeon Snow. I preach the word of the Good Book and deliver the Fire and Brimstone ... personally. Fuck with me at your own peril."

He then broke into a broad smile, finding it difficult to hold it back any longer and reverted back to his true (modified) character. "Aaaaw... I'm not foolin' anyone here. I'm all about the free love, buddies. Come here and bring it in!"

Mane the proceeded to give both Casper and Marcus a great big hug, the likes of which they might have expected to receive from a friendly Kodiak bear. He finished by giving them a squeeze and a little, brief lift off the floor. "I know we just met, but I think we're going to be good friends!

"Got it, boss man!" Mane said in snappy reply, letting go of the new guys.

((Rolls Carried Over))

Snoopy Toretto wrote:“Yeah, those Pecos boys had the dumbest names. Seriously the leader is Saber Lazer or something lame like that.” He replies to Howlett with a wry grin. He pauses, turning serious, then looks the Captain in the eye. “Honestly boss,” Snoopy says to Howlett, “I need help here. Especially with this merc cover. I don’t have any issue commanding these guys, but I’m having trouble finding the balance. Sometimes I still think like a corporal.”

James smiles a strange smile, it's almost warm and fatherly... or at least a very good imitation of it. "You want some advice, I think I know what will help." James says quietly to keep the others out of the conversation. "I've been an officer for about ten years now. I was not a commander of men, it was a privilege of my occupation that got me rank. Only since I've been with the one tenth and now the four oh four have I become a leader of men so to speak. A few missions past, we were sent to Atlantis for an assassination. During that mission the commander A Lieutenant Von Petra, became indisposed and I was in charge. I was a wreck, I likely did everything wrong, except that it was the one tenth and short a rather mentally disturbed juicer, they knew what to do." James says reaching for the canteen on his bag.

James takes a moment to drink some water before continuing. "Von Petra was a RSCG Scientist and shouldn't have really had command either, but it worked out for a while. When we got back to the states, she was boxed up for classified reasons and we had Captain Taverez assigned to us. Not a bad deal as I was not the one in charge, it was around this time that Freeman was assigned to us as well. After my horrible first stint, I decided to pay attention to their leadership styles and came to one simple conclusion. It does not matter who you are as an officer, you have a relatively simple task to deal with. Telling others what to do. I mean yeah we..." James says as he points to both Snoopy and himself. "Have to decide our best course of action, but in the end it is those men under you that will likely be pulling off your plan. Be honest with them and be yourself. You do not have to berate them at all times, It would get both tedious and dangerous. Tell them what you expect of them and let them go about their task." James says before taking another drink from his canteen.

"I only chastise when it is necessary, like in the instance when Mane thought it was in the groups best interest to harass the new mechanic. Mostly I just be an example for the others, I do the same kind of tasks they do, and show them I am not afraid to get dirty. You were a corporal until recently, sure that is a jump, but you surely conferred mission information to you wing men in your old unit. It is no different really." James says before screwing the cap back onto his water bottle.

"Once we have the basic rundown of what is going on, we will break the info down and set the groups to task. Given the nature of what has been happening, I do not believe we will find this to be an easy task. And yes, the Pecos banditry were known for their infinitely stupid nicknames. You may have forgotten this, but I cut my teeth in Lone Star, I dealt with many of them in the past." James says with a chuckle, before putting his canteen away and grabbing his personal computer and setting it down on the table.

And unless I am unconscious or non-ambulatory, don't pick me up unless I say so?".

Mane stood there as the man scolded him and rebuffed his gesture of kindness, love, and brotherhood. The mountain of a Battle Cat's eyes slowly turned from their once happy, joyful expression to that of irritation, and then something akin to a hateful, violent scowl. His breathing slowed, and the tips of his steel-shredding black claws ever so slightly peeked from his thick, powerful fingers.

And then, just as it looked as if Mane might have done or said something rather unfortunate to the man, the scar hidden behind his right ear began to itch. The hulking killer visibly twitched as a jolt of electricity shot through his mind, activating certain regions and dulling other parts. Mane knew it was his cursed behavioral modification chip doing its job... how he hated that thing so!

He opened his mouth to say something, and instead Mane found himself bursting out in acapella song.

♫ "When the mooooon, is in the Seventh House" ♫

As he sang, Mane's face began to soften, and his shoulders began to give a wavy sway. His inner hippy was coming out, as per his twisted curse of cyber-lycanthropy.

♫ "And Juuuupiter aligns with Mars" ♫

The big cat's feet began to make a swaying shuffle from side to side, and soon after his hips and tail followed suit. In no time even his arms got into the motion.

♫ "Then peeeeeeace will guide the planets" ♫

Having been swep up in the groove of things, Mane began to dance away backwards from Marcus, giving finger points along the way.

♫ "And loooooove will steer the stars" ♫

Upon hitting the word stars, Mane gave a graceful piroette and proceeded to get back to his job, unloading the gear and heavy stuff, dancing and singing all the way.

♫ "This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius! Age of Aquarius!" ♫ he sang as he picked up a crate of munitions, hefting it onto his shoulder.

♫ "Aquariuuuuuuus!! ♫ Aquariiuuuuuus!" ♫

Fuck my life. Mane thought to himself, his pride and instincts defeated once more by the digital hippy that haunted and possessed his body and mind.
Mane, driver of the big ugly bus.

[Rolls carried over and over and over and over...]

Surprised by Howlett's helpful, almost warm, response, Snoopy takes a bit more that an standard pause before answering. He nodded, feeling like he too has been doing everything wrong, and Snoopy's only been at it for weeks. It's a little horrifying that the breaking in period might take that long. Howlett was absolutely right, tell the men what needed to be done and then let them do it was the way to keep everyone happy. Micromanaging is the worst thing possible. He nods again, not surprised at all with the turnover in this group. Snoopy has seen it first hand.

"Best course of action. Roger." he says, finally, but his simple restatement is a summary of Howlett's knowledge drop. He looks back to the Captain in the eye with a cheerful smile coming back, "Thanks, boss."

"Oh, and I didn't forget. It would be great to go back and visit sometime."

Marcus is a bit baffled by the Cats behavior and after the first 5 seconds of singing he looks around at the others who disembarked from the truck and asks, "Why is he singing?".

Once the group has settled down and are seated at the table, Marcus pulls out his handheld computer and pulls up the information he and Casper have been collecting. "Ok, so here is what we have so far. And keep in mind some of this is from the rumor-mill and not substantiated intelligence. The bodies have all shared a couple things in common; all had collars on them...dog collars that is. And all looked like they had been tortured extensively, there tongues removed in a painful fashion and in the end, executed. The klillings seem to be ritualistic in nature, although so far we haven't seen or sensed any signs of magic activity in the area of the killings. Oh, and the victims were killed at or very near where they were found, so far that has not helped in finding who did this. After which the bodies were put on display, so they could be found, on purpose. Uh, we heard someone in local law enforcement describe the displaying as 'artistic'.", Marcus pauses as he looks around at everyone before continuing, "At first the victims didn't seem to have a pattern race-wise. They were similar only by all being humanoids. But at a certain point, the targets became more specific; dogboys, wolfen, and other canine-like races. We don't have any idea what that is about. Another thing the victims share in common is their line of work, all were either mercs or pirates...the kind of person who can handle themselves in a fight. So whoever is doing this has got to be a trained warrior of one strip or another, so whatever you do do not underestimate this person.", Marcus again looks around the room as he says this last part. Looking down at his notes again, he scrolls a bit before settling on another piece of information, sighing he says, "And here is a prime example of why. The killings started dying off here in the city and not long after that we heard of a CS patrol on this side of town that got ambushed; a Psi-Stalker and his dogpack. I don't think I need to remind you all of how difficult it is to sneak up on and ambush an entire squad of dogboys, especially one lead by a Stalker. Again, all of the dogboys were display in gruesome fashion. Someone had moved the Psi-Stalkers body and covered it before we got there, so I don't know if he was also mutilated like the others.", Marcus stops, sets his computer down on the table and leaning back asks, "Any questions?".

Drum nods in agreement at Lazarus' question about Mane's singing. He'd only been with the team for a few days and still has no real idea about how his team works together. That is one crazy cat.

Intelligence 50% vs 1d100 = 71 | Fail

When Lazarus details what he's learned, Drum pipes up. "So, whoever this is has been going after more challenging prey. If we can create something more challenging than what he has gone after so far, then we might be able to lure him in. Seems like something Grayson would be good at figuring out." Drum nods towards Egan.

He watches everyone disembark. Quite a variety of people. The Battle Cat is the biggest surprise. He didn't expect to run into one. The surprise hug delivered by the giant cat-man catches Casper off-guard. "Good to meet you Preacher. I'll take friendly any day." he says with a smile. Howlett's instructions about relaying where to stow gear doesn't escape him. He quickly points out good locations for gear to go.

Rounding back to rejoin the conversation, he is puzzled by Mane's sudden song. "It's a lovely song. One of your favorites?" he says. The song really isn't appealing to him. In fact he is outright lying, but his training takes over. Half of it is pure construction but the other half is a mental tool he developed to seed some twisted form of appreciation for anyone into his mind.

To Tiny Tex he listens attentively and nods in affirmation. He seems out of place, I wonder what the story is. He doesn't seem like a normal officer.

"Pleased to meet you Grey. I look forward to working with you." he says, offering a solid handshake leaning over slightly.

Grayson gladly shakes the Marcus's hand and smiles. "Considering where we were, that was the most normal thing to see, a man and his dog, so it kinda stuck out."
James Howlett wrote:James smirks at the exchange between the old guard and the new guys.
"You got it bossman." Grey quipped, but before he could turn to rally the troops, the Battle Cat had already made his introduction. Watching the cat seem to teeter between elation, murder, and back again before busting out in song, Grey ran a hand down his face in exasperation before sighing softly.

Casper Wilpepper wrote:"Pleased to meet you Grey. I look forward to working with you." he says, offering a solid handshake leaning over slightly.
Returning the handshake in kind Grayson responds. "Likewise."
Getting the gear unloaded took very little time with the singing cat doing most of the heavy lifting. Once everything was where it needed to be, the unloading crew joined the rest at the conference table for the breakdown.

{{{Prior Roll Carried Over}}}

Casper Wilpepper wrote:"Good to meet you Preacher. I'll take friendly any day." he says with a smile. ...

With the polite comment -- even if some what manipulative and insincere -- Mane stopped singing and leaned in to the man. In a half crazed whisper the hulking battle cat showed a fleeting moment of self-awareness and sanity. He spoke with an angry growl. "I have no idea who put this damn hippy jamboree tune in my head. Until it started coming out of my mouth about a month ago, I've never heard it in entire life."

Mane resumed his full height, realizing he still had a half-ton crate of munitions on his shoulder. "If I ever get my claws on the fuckin' quack that put this chip in my skull..."

But as the angry, hostile, violent thought entered his mind, that familiar electric jolt shot through his mind. Mane tried to fight it, but the impulse was too strong for him to resist. His cheeks began to bulge as something was trying to get out, but the murderous mutant lion strained to keep it in. Finally, the wind escaped from his lips. It was the second half of the song.

"Leeeeeeet the sunshine! ♫ Mane gave Casper a brief 'Kill Me' look, and then went back to finishing his work unloading the heavy stuff.

"Leeeeeeeet the sunshine. ♫
♫ The suuuuuuun shine in!"

After his tasks were done, and the song finally out of his system, Mane regained his composure and joined the others in conference room. He listened closely to the additional Intelligence being related by the new guy. As before the grizzly details struck a chord in the once-proud killer, for he felt he understood this slayer of dogs better than anyone else in the room. Whomever it was, it was not some person extolling some form of petty vengeance; this was an artist painting his masterpiece in the blood of his chosen victims. But with the new information of the artist originally starting with others and working his way up to Coalition dog packs, just added new dimension to the work.

Drummond Leighton wrote:When Lazarus details what he's learned, Drum pipes up. "So, whoever this is has been going after more challenging prey. Drum nods towards Egan.

In silence Mane pondered in agreement, `Maybe... but what would be more exciting than an entire dog pack? What might tempt a further escalation from The Artist.'

Egan Grey wrote:... a slow smile creeping across his face. "It definitely seems like that is the case, and if so..." he turns his head slowly to look over at the hulking cat, "I think I know of a way to peak this thing or things interest." Mane noticed Egan looking his direction. Momentarily confused, the big cat turned and look behind him to see if Egan was eyeballing something over there. Seeing nothing of particular interest he turned back to Egan.

"... what? ..."

Casper watches the huge cat curiously. What in the world is going on with him? What did they do to him? he wonders. There is little he disagrees with more in the Coalition than the genetic experiments that resulted dog boys, battle cats and similar. It's not hate but something closer to body horror mixed with pity. He has never considered them advanced animals, but rather ruined humans forever trapped in some horrid in-between. In a similar way but much stronger is his dislike of bionics and cybernetics, particularly things that meddle in the mind. It is the way things are... for now, but it never has been OK with him.

"That's music of great antiquity. You say someone put it in your head? Who was it, if you don't mind me asking?" he asks. His question is outwardly about the song, but anyone involved with these things is worth noting on his lists.

Drum follows Egan's gaze to the big cat. Yeah, maybe so, he's strong, the strongest guy I've ever met. I mean he lifted me and that reinforced chair straight off the floor and had the control to set me gently enough on the table that I didn't notice. But just having him walk around isn't going to do it. Our perp? Yeah that's what they are called on CSI Chi-Town. Our perp, needs to see him in action.

"We need to go out on patrol ourselves I think. Maybe have Grayson trail follow us and try and observe the observer. When we do find trouble, Mane, needs to take the lead. Definitely shows his strength, plus his ability to be sneaky." Drum says to the group. "It may mean that he might have to take point, so he can be observed," the cyborg makes quote fingers with his mechanical hands, "'On the prowl.'"

"Something else worth while might be to see if one of you might have the leverage to get a hold of one of those collars. We," Casper says, motioning to himself and Heller, "Couldn't get a hand on them. There are those who can tell about the last owner of them." he adds. He wasn't sure what channels others may be able to pursue but he hadn't been in Hammond long enough to build a significant support structure yet and with Heller around he couldn't use all the tools at his disposal. Magic isn't an ace up your sleeve to be pulled out every time things are difficult. It is a tool to be used behind shrouds, in shadow and only when it is intended and planned. Frivolous or reactionary use is wasteful and costly on many level. Gloria has drilled this tenant into him. The threat it carried to both him and others around him was one he knew to be taken seriously.

The psi-stalkers are simply killed, but the dogboys are being tortured and killed. Their ears are being cut off by someone or something in the Hancock burb. Psi-Stalker and Dog Boy patrols are unable to to sense or track whoever/whatever is doing this. Team is to infiltrate Hammond in mercenary guise, find and eliminate the Dog Tagger. We have reason to believe he's targeting canine d-bees as well. We have contacts on site, identity and place to meet this team, codename Rat Catcher, will be released at mission launch due to top secret nature of the contact.

As James gives the order to get the meeting underway, Casper takes a seat.

The captain gives a quick outline of their operational scope and purpose. Finally he calls for the details from Casper and Marcus' preliminary mission.

He pulls out a data card and a paper file from his satchel. "For whoever wants to add the information we're presenting to their database" he says holding up the date card, not even considering that there might be some in the number here that can't read or write. He then opens the manilla file folder and spreads out several dozen reports and photos.

"Well, I hate to say we don't have much other than the information we've already mentioned. That list is here. I've included assessments of the various cults in the area including seemingly new factions in the city, tied to the demonic swells that have been reported. There was a brief engagement with a solitary Alu. This details are here. We were thinking with it being an Alu it might have some connection but it turned out to low level summoning magic as some of these new factions scrape out new territories. We have forty two recorded interviews with locals who are known to be unstable or dangerous but none of them gave any further leads, but they have been catalogued should the need arise. We also have footage and photographs from the sites the bodies were found."

"We also have rudimentary profiles on all victims and what would pass for intersectional analysis. All that could be derived is what has already been disclosed.
Lazarus, anything to add?"
Casper asks, looking at Marcus.

GM mini-post (chew on this while I set up the next one)

The data that Casper hands over is easily plugged into the computers that the two officers have and updates with what they have. The files are then updated for Casper and James hands it back afterwards.

Looking over the information, a few interesting points are flagged by the group at large (pretty sure everyone is literate).
  • One of the people the recon team had interviewed was one Heston Branton. What is interesting is one of his known associates is a rogue psi-hound. Even if the psi-hound has been a victim, it's worth circling back on Branton.
  • Looking at the CS intelligence photos, the Recon Team can see the dog collars thing has to be either something only for stuff done in the city, or some bit of false info put out by Hammond's version of law enforcement.
  • There are four modified men on the list. Gerald Titan, a juicer assassin; Henric Isold, a partial cyborg pirate, Karen Page, a crazy mercenary, and Yvonne Dade, a phaeton juicer pilot.
  • The group might find and hire a group of mercs that have a dogboy as part of a ruse to draw this guy out. Have to find one though.
  • Mane is a possible target.

The cyborg keeps to the back as everyone crowds begins digging through the data, he uses his mechanical eyes to zoom in on what is displayed. He's able to pick out the letters and a few words here in there, but he doesn't understand all the details. Hearing the various names as the team talks about various potential leads causes Drum to grit his teeth. Come on just pick a lead and let's get out there.

"So should we break up into smaller groups to find these people, or stay together?" Drum asks, "We kill two cats," Drum holds up his hands at Mane smiling, "Just kidding, I doubt anything can take you down. But, two birds with one stone on whichever lead we follow with Mane in the group."

Casper replies to Drummond saying, "I think Blackwood's idea of splitting up has merit. We can split unevenly. A larger group with Mane as the lure and a smaller group following a hired merc outfit." he says, looking to James and Snoopy, deferring to their input.

The scout finds himself nodding along with Drums first idea of going on patrol. -That could work as well, anything to try and peak this things interest.-

Grayson's eyebrow goes up slightly as the Doc makes his command presence known, -Come on Doc, we just went over what they knew.- Grey mentally sighs, -I never thought he would fall into that role of 'the meeting starts when I say it does' mentality of bad commanders. Snoopy, don't take notes....please.- When the other new guy speaks up and throws out some new info as well as data, the scout finds himself sitting closer to the edge of his seat. -Finally, starting to get somewhere. Casper listens to Egan's brief words. They are an anxious lot. Nothing wrong with determination, but reckless abandon can be hard to differentiate. Of course such attitudes weren't uncommon. He had seen it for several years within the Coalition. Of course he has been a student of caution and subterfuge rather than frontal assaults. Blood and guts just wasn't his way. And then there was the Gull Island Massacre that exists in no living memory aside from his own. Many soldiers tired of indecision sacrificed their bodies on the altar of bravery. On the shore of Calumet in Old Chicago, death poured from that rift in the moon light.

Still, we've got a mission to complete. Might as well get to it.

James listens to the others and reads the information given to him. James' brain compiling and decompiling the information in his head trying to find the best course of action. James sighs inwardly. Do we split up into small teams and look into as much as possible, or do we go in force? What to do. James thinks, under the guise of looking at the notes.

"Alright, we will split into two teams, Tiny Tex you will be with Grayson, Codex, and Preacher. Your job is going to be looking into yhe four modified men on the list. Lazarus, Doug, and myself will go and speak with Branton and his Dogboy associate, if he is still alive. If we finish before your investigation is over we will join you. This is recon, if you site the target do not engage unless you have been engaged already. And for gods sake radio if you find out anything weird. Let's gather back here say seventeen hundred hours. Tiny Tex you have a ten thousand credit discretionary budget for bribes if needed." James says handing over one of the cards he has for such an occasion. "Any questions?"

Once James is able to field any questions, he sends a mental command to Aleksandr to join him, before looking at Heller and Drum. "Whenever you are ready gentleman?

Casper nods and gathers his gear. Putting on his MOH, he also puts on his, Codex, identity. The identity is comfortable for him, being a more heightened version of his scholarly self. Grabbing his rifle he moves to where Snoopy's team is collecting.

He looks to the short man and says, "Ready when you are, Tiny." It feels like an insult, considering the half foot difference in height between the two of them but it's the character of Codex and he plays it to the tee. He watches the pilot for his reaction. Some people enjoy cover and others do not. We will see which he is."

"No-no-no-no!" Mane quickly rambled, holding up halting hand in Casper's direction, squinting his eyes as if in pain and averting his gaze. "I just got the damn thing out of my head. Do NOT get me going again."

Mane raised his hand and asked his question when called on. Before speaking he glanced over to Drumm and then over to Grayson. He was beginning to catch on "So... I'm the bait? Does that mean I should go out of my way to draw attention to myself? ... Like ... just for instance, say ... I don't know ... kill a few people on a whim?"

Almost giddy for the answer, Mane began to fidget with one of the braids in his mane, clicking some beads woven into its lengh together almost by accident. For the moment his inner hippy was dormant, and the apex predator in him was excited for what might be a slip of the leash holding it in check.
