Miyitowin - Level 4 Godling

Postby Miyitowin » Tue Nov 03, 2015 6:23 pm

Player Name: Ben
YIM Handle: MaxthebearEU

Character Name: Miyitowin
Alias: Miyto
Race: Godling
O.C.C.: Warlock (de facto)
Alignment: Unprincipled
XP Level: 4
XP Points: 12,925 [Pieter 2/4/18]
Next Level @ XP: 20,001
Sentiments/Non-Humans: They are all part of this world. They have as much right to be there as anyone else.
Sentiments/Coalition: Anyone who would force their way of life on others at the end of a gun deserves nothing but the same.
Disposition: Kind, soft spoken and considerate for the most part. Will help those she can and believes all people to be equal until proven otherwise. Very protective of nature and the environment, abhors pollution, waste and willful destruction. She is all of these things to a point however and believes of life the same as she does nature: It is as cruel as it is beautiful and one must do what they can and what they must to survive.
Insanity: None

Prejudices: Feels uncomfortable in armor: the more restrictive it is the more uncomfortable she feels. Distrustful of modern technology: Genuinely believes magic and the 'old ways' are better and technology was responsible for destroying the world. Avoids the use of technology herself except in absolute life and death situations or when there is no other sensible option. Does not have an issue with using someone else's technology against them via mental powers. As a newly created being, she is infused with what her benefactor felt a woman of her culture pre-contact with Europe would know to begin she is unaware of many of her own abilities and powers. Even much of her own knowledge and abilities will come as a surprise to her.

Postby Miyitowin » Tue Nov 03, 2015 6:24 pm

Wesakechak sat on a hill overlooking a tranquil valley, smoking his pipe and thinking to himself.

How many times had the God done this? How many times had he sat and watched people at work, invisible to their eyes? How many times had he sat and watched animals going about their business, invisible to their eyes as well? Today was not truly any different than any other but as he let the smoke roll out of his nostrils he felt... off. Something was bothering him but he couldn't quite place it.

Strange that he should feel so at ease. Afterall, he was Wesakechak. In the East of North America, the MicMac people knew him as Glooscap. among the Anishinabe to the West he was known as Manabus and the Blackfoot knew him as 'The Great Old Man'. He was loved best among the Cree and the Algonquin though who called him Wesakechak. The few white men in the know typically called him Whiskey Jack.

And so he was Wesakechak, known through a dozen cultures as a spirit of power and trickery. He loved nothing so much as a good joke on the unsuspecting. Most of the time it was in good humor, sometimes his 'victims' didn't get the joke or learn their lesson but in general he meant well. The point was, he was a God. What did he have to be upset about?

It might have been that chance encounter he had in tavern in some far off dimension. A member of another Pantheon who recognized him right away for what he was. "Your people are backwards." The God had said. "The world has changed and left them behind." Wesakechak couldn't remember his name, but he thought it was Moki or Hoki or something like that. Nice chap but always looking over his shoulder for someone named Boar who he thought was going to come in at any moment. Ruined Wesakechak's drink. Oh well, he couldn't be bothered to remember someone who couldn't even say his name right.

But today, that had him thinking. Was what that person had said correct? From what little he could remember that person's people mostly hit things for a culture but how were his own any different? The words ached though, because Wesakechak could see the truth in them. He'd heard it before. When the White Man came with their superior technology magic had already left the world. His 'people' barely stood a chance and what could escaped to their own dimension with the rest of their Pantheon. Wesakechak opted to stay, his powers much reduced and walk among men all of those years because that is the only thing that he knew.

The other God was right. The world had changed and left his people behind, in fact, it had done it twice. Once at the arrival of the white man when magic left them and once again when magic returned. Some had been returning to the old ways and some had returned from the dimension they took refuge in, but no, some were stuck halfway inbetween.

Wesakechak smoked his pipe some more, lost in thought.

So, his people needed change. Or did they? This is what he could not decide. Were the old ways the best, or were the new ways the best? Or some mix of the two of them? Respect of the old ways but bringing in the new?

Certainly, their Gods were out of date. Only one that he knew of would ever think of using an item of technology. But even then, was technology bad? Or was it just that the Gods themselves were raised in an environment without it? Certainly, they'd become xenophobic and technophobic, lavishing magic powers on their people and taking them away if they so much touched an item of technology or associated with the wrong people.

Wesakechak sighed, blowing more smoke into the air as he watched rabbits frolic in the field below him.

Out of date, sure. But was it right? What was even right anymore? As a known trickster his interpretation of right and wrong varied depending on the moment. Magic? Technology? Magic and technology? Was this world meant for just his people, or were they meant to share it with the White Man? Or technically with a thousand races now found on it, people of every shape and size and color?

Everything had changed. It always used to be so simple.

He thought of how insufferably close minded his brother and sister Gods were. He thought of how insufferably close minded most of humanity, his people and other people had become.

And then the idea slowly began to creep into his mind, the ultimate prank on humanity and on his fellow Gods.

Since Wesakechak wasn't sure what was right and what was wrong anymore, why not leave it up to someone new to decide? The Pantheon had been stagnating with no new voices, no new opinions. Why not let the people of Rifts Earth shape their own God? Why not let that God be made on Earth and learn of it's people, it's cultures, it's good things and bad things and then in a few thousand years come back to the Pantheon and fulfil it's destiny?

A baby God. A Godling. Let it decide what was right and wrong and then come back and be a voice to the Pantheon. Let it experience the modern world and make some decisions about it and then come back and say what it thought. Let it be guided and shaped by the world itself, not by someone telling it what to do.

Oh-ho. It had been forever since a Godling had been created. It was sure to piss the entire Pantheon of Gods off. Just for that reason Wesakechak loved it. Not to mention it'd probably piss off all of the human tight-asses that clung so fervently to one belief at the exclusion of all others. Let Earth shape what would possibly become a player in shaping it's destiny. Let a new voice say what was wrong, who was good and who was bad.

Wesakechak loved the idea more and more as he thought of it, tapping his pipe out on the sole of his moccasin before refilling and relighting it. It was a good idea to be sure that would piss a number of Gods and people off, but even more than that? It was an opportunity for his people and his brother and sister Gods to learn that there was more out there than the rigid things they adhered to

He nodded to himself, halfway through his second smoke.

A new Godling that would go out and weigh the old versus the new. Perfect. Wesakechak would give it life himself, which would piss even more of his Pantheon off. He would start it out knowing the old ways but give it the ability to understand technology instinctively. Let it decide it's own path.

Now, he rubbed his chin, still smiling at the idea of how pissed off Strong Eagle in particular would be. But once these things were done... they were done and there was nothing for it.

Slowly, he exhaled, his eyes closed. Miyitowin. That is what he would call it, and it would be made in the shape of a woman. His daughter. Miyitowin. Her name meaning gifts taken and gifts given. An exchange of knowledge. He would give her the knowledge she needed to talk to the spirits that made the weather, that made the ground grow. But he would also give her the powers to figure out technology even if she did not understand it.

And, this world being what it was, he would make her a warrior, able to hold her own in this modern world and he would make her a healer to help others. All of these things he would make Miyitowin.

But first...

Wesakechak scratched his chin again. It was beyond even him to create a soul from nothing. He could change one, make something into something it had never been before, but he could not simply create life. Once more, his eyes flicked to the rabbits in the valley far below. Calling one over to him he took it into the palm of his hand, closing his eyes and focusing his life energy into it.

Much later on, Wesakechak had the perfectly shaped form of a woman lying beneath a tree with his hand upon her forehead. He had gifted her with all of what he'd intended but as he arose and straightened out his clothes he thought for a moment, then unwound the rawhide thong that bound one of his tomahawk's to his belt. Laying it with her, he smiled to himself and headed off on his next great trick and his next great adventure. As an added little bonus, his final trick he left his daughter not knowing who or what she was. She would awaken in a few hours believing she was a woman from another era, before the white man came. A woman who spoke to spirits but who knew nothing of the potential that laid within her.

Afterall . . one good trick deserved another, right? And if she truly was his daughter, she'd figure it out on her own. Right?

Unfortunately, even Gods cannot see all, and when Miyitowin opened her eyes the first thing she saw was men in black armor and strange, dog-like creatures yelling at her in a tongue that she'd never heard before.. but somehow that she could understand. Confused and disoriented she was promptly taken captive.

Somewhere in the megaverse, Loki smiled to himself. A trickster tricking a trickster who tricked his entire Pantheon by tricking his people. Sounded about right.
