Gear Stats

NG-HCH-1020 Salamander
Model Type: NG-HCH-1020
Class: Amphibious Heavy Cargo Hauler and Exploration Vehicle.
Crew: Two; pilot and co-pilot or communications engineer.
Cab/Pilot Compartment: The cab includes the pilot compartment and seats for the crew and one extra for a passenger sitting between them. Two other passengers can be squeezed in behind those seats in a sitting or kneeling position (not good for long hauls). There is also an overhead gun rack and a storage locker the size of a medium-sized walk-in closet.

M.D.C. by Location:
    * Winch & Crane (rear; bottom) – 90
    * Forward Headlights (2, large) – 8 each
    * Forward Headlights (2, small, top) – 5 each
    * Pop-Up Searchlight (top of cab) – 12
    * Running Lights (6-20, tiny, front, back & sides; to be seen at night when that is desirable) – 1 each.
    * Railing (4 front and RV) – 10 each
    * Stairs/Steps (when applicable) – 10 each
    * Small Hatch (top of cab) – 50
    ** Undercarriage Hover Jets (8 per pod/section) – 50 each
    ** Main Forward and Rear Thrusters (2 front, 2 back) – 120 each

    * Sliding Defensive Window Plating (varies) – 100 each for large, 50 small.
    Reinforced Crew Compartment – 80
    Cargo or Travel Pods (typically three total) – 300 each
    *** Main Body of Cab – 412
* -3 to strike on a Called Shot; to hit the undercarriage hover jets, the attacker must be able to see them and suffers a penalty of -10 to strike on a Called Shot.
** Depleting the M.D.C. of one of the main thrusters cuts speed by 20% and inflicts a -5% penalty to the piloting skill; cumulative effects for each loss. Can still hover and move with all four main thrusters destroyed, but at a slow speed (-80%) and at a maximum hover height of 2'.
*** Depleting the M.D.C. of the main body shuts the vehicle down completely, rendering it useless.
Speed:
  • Land: 75 mph maximum. Reduce speed to 45 mph when cargo weight is greater than 120,000 tons total; each cargo pod can carry as much as 40 tons.
  • Altitude/Hover Height: 6' maximum, but typically 3-4' above the ground, especially when hauling heavy cargo or a wheeled cargo container.
  • Water: Can cross shallow bodies of water no deeper than 8', but cannot ride on the surface of water. Can submerge to ride along the bottom of lakes, rivers and seas.
  • Underwater: 25 mph riding along the lake or sea floor, which means it needs a beach or incline that leads up to the shore to get back onto dry land.
  • Maximum Depth Underwater: 1.2 miles
  • Flying: Not possible.
Statistical Data:
    Dimensions: 16' tall, 22' wide, 24' long for the cab, 30' long per each cargo/travel pod.

    Cargo Hauling Capacity: Can haul up to 120 tons safely and at a decent speed.
    Pilot Modifiers: -10% to piloting skill to handle a vehicle that is 100-130'+ long; -15% to make a quick stop; -30% to make a sharp turn or to engage in evasive maneuvers, dodge or stunt driving. All penalties are cumulative. As a hover vehicle, it can navigate most land terrains except forests, unless there is a suitable path.
    Power System: Nuclear, average energy life is 10 years. Not available in Solid Oxide or electric battery versions.
Weapon Systems: None
Sensor Systems and Features of Note:
All the usual basic features of a commercial, sealed environmental vehicle with standard life support systems; air supply and circulation system for any “occupied” compartments, plus a basic short-range and long-range radio transceiver (50 miles). There are also two concealed video cameras on the front, sides of the cab, in the nose and in the tail of the last container so that the driver can see when the window plates are in place.

Field Lab Pod
A mobile laboratory with most of the same basic equipment and facilities as you would find in the Behemoth Explorer robot’s labs. A self-contained environmental container with life support, air circulation, heating, cooling and working sinks.

Re: Prudence 'Kelly' Kellogg (WIP Rogue Scholar)

Postby Kelly Kellogg » Tue Jun 06, 2017 1:52 pm

Background Story

Degrees from the University of Lazlo
Associate of Applied Paranormal Studies
Bachelor of Education
Bachelor of Chemistry
Bachelor of Chemical Biology
Major in Molecular and Cell Biology- Biochemistry & Molecular Biology

Prudence Kellogg's transcript shows that prior to losing her scholarship due to substance abuse, she was well on her way to two additional doctorate degrees, and was accepted to a medical school on her test scores.

Prudence Kellogg hails from a small Canadian community near the Pre-Rifts site of High Level, Alberta, named in a tongue-in cheek manner as New Level. A wandering Rogue Scholar visited the community and was notably impressed with the young girl's clear intelligence. So impressed, in fact, that he brought back a scout for a prestigious private school in Lazlo.

Prudence, who developed a preference for the schoolhouse nickname Kelly, was given a full ride scholarship at age 7. This scholarship provided enough funds not just for her schooling for as long as she performed well, but funds to move her entire extended family to Lazlo, and maintain them for the same amount of time. From that point on, all pressure was on young Kelly to perform.

And perform is exactly what Kelly did. She was given a full graduation at age 12, and immediately started collegiate courses under a continuation of the same scholarship program. By her mid-teens, Kelly had literally hit a wall in the amount of study she could continue to carry. While still easily earning marks high enough to keep her scholarship, Kelly was no longer so voracious to learn. She just wanted to be a teenager for a while.

But as she got closer to adulthood, the pressure began to increase for doctorate studies from the scholarship organization, and to sign an employment contract with one of the scholarship's sponsoring organizations.

The pressure to perform for her family was also increasing, as several siblings and cousins were also now receiving education through the scholarship program.

Kelly resorted to chemical means to keep progressing in her education to keep the employment issue at bay and to continue to provide for her family. What started with occasional use of methylphenidate, which Kelly produced herself at the scholarship's expense eventually mutated into a year long battle with boing-go that cost Kelly her scholarship and ended her family's free ride.

The family was hurt by the loss, but the 15 years they had spent in Lazlo supported by Kelly had allowed them the means to continue to provide for themselves, if not access to the prestigious schools any more. A few moved back to New Level, but most stayed in Lazlo.

Kelly spent some time in detox, and tutored the family members for a while after she recovered to help make up for the loss of private schooling. Even though everyone agrees Lazlo public education is quite good, it's never good enough for those used to more.

But the addictions don't often let go easy. When Kelly relapsed, she decided to hit the road rather than face her family again. Taking the last of her scholarship money she had squirreled away for years, she bought a mobile lab and a hovertruck to haul it around and made her way south to explore America.

A city full of Mercenaries where almost everything is legal sounds like a grand place for a stim addict to visit.

Somewhere is her massive cranium, Kelly realizes she's going to have to actually earn money, however after 15 years of it, she's pretty used to simply applying herself intellectually and being handed money. Being told exactly what to work on is an experience Kelly has no familiairity with.
