Special Rules
Your character can be taken out of play if:
- He dies.
- He goes insane.
- He flees the interior of the Asylum.
This is not Rifts Earth where the horrible day-to-day life has taken its mental toll. This is regular old Earth, circa 1980's, with its mundane toils and troubles. Your character hasn't truly seen anything so horrifying that he has started to lose his mind yet. As such, all character sheets have two entries which look like this:
Sanity: 100%
Insanities: None.
Your Sanity starts off at 100% and can be reduced at GM discretion every time you fail a Horror Factor roll or experience something troubling or abnormal. When it reaches 0% your character goes completely insane and immediately flees the Asylum.
Here's the sanity progression:
- Sanity: 75%, your character receives his first insanity.
- Sanity: 50%, your character receives his second insanity.
- Sanity: 25%, your character receives his third insanity.
- Sanity: 0%, you go completely insane and can no longer relate to the world around you.
What can reduce your Sanity?
- Losing a saving throw vs. Horror Factor (Horror Factor checks will be used liberally).
- Witnessing or interacting with the supernatural/paranormal/bizarre.
- Witnessing or performing (successfully or not) a brutally violent act (anything beyond basic fisticuffs).
- Suffering a traumatic injury (anything which causes a loss to H.P.).
- Performing any action, successfully or not, which is outside of your character's alignment.
