Background Story

Lucien was born in the slums of Old Bones. His father left his mother and him before Lucien was able to formulate any memory of his existence. His mother, a Boing-Go addict, was rarely ever around for obvious reasons. Because of this, Lucien learned at an early age to fend for himself. Luckily for him, Old Bones was the perfect place for a street rat such as himself to survive. Children made perfect messengers for illegal deals and children with no family to follow-up on their potential disappearances made the perfect recruits. Le Marché Noir, the Black Market faction with the controlling interest in Old Bones, relied heavily on orphans and other kids from the streets to move information about town and into Free Quebec without being seen. While Lucien did not enjoy or take pride in working for a criminal organization, he realized it was the most effective means of putting a roof over his head and food on his table.

When Lucien was sixteen years old, he enrolled in the Quebec military, eager to leave his life of criminality behind him for good. Lucien found his niche in military life, finding solace in the structure and support that it provided. The young man quickly worked his way into the Quebec Rapid Deployment Force and then finally into the Expeditionary Force as a Ranger and forward scout. Lucien enrolled in sniper school, and fell in love with his talent for long-range combat and clandestine missions. Lucien learned the trade skills of a sniper, realizing that one shot could turn the tide of the conflict or quell an invasion. He was also taught how to blend in with the local populace, gain their trust, and use that trust to learn vital information about the enemy. It was quite the effective pairing Lucien had; learn the enemies secrets from within, and then execute his target from a distance. Lucien was quite skilled in his craft, and eventually was recruited by the Quebec Military Intelligence Corps for his abilities as a deep agent.

Then the war broke out.

On the eve of the Riverbend massacre, Lucien was staying in New Pembroke, chasing down a lead about a Free Quebec officer who'd gone rogue. He was caught in the crossfire when the Coalition army descended on the small city. Lucien provided what support he could, but ultimately the CS forces proved to be too much and Lucien was forced to flee the city with the other survivors. Thousands died, and he had no idea as to why the Coalition had launched such an attack on Free Quebec. When Lucien was finally able to get back into radio contact with the QMI, he learned that a rogue terrorist organization called the Children of Freedom had attacked a Coalition town first and that war had fallen on Free Quebec. A special group within the QMI was tasked with tracking down and killing all members of Viper Delta, the muscle behind the Children of Freedom. Lucien personally volunteered for the job, desperately wanting to exact revenge on those who caused such a bloody conflict to begin.

While the rest of the Free Quebec Military was fighting against the Coalition states, Lucien and his team were fighting an internal war, hunting down members of Viper Delta and the rest of the Children of Freedom. It was a game of chess played in total darkness; two covert groups fighting from the shadows. Lucien’s role within the group was to earn the trust of known associates of the Children of Freedom, ascertain what information he could from them, and then use that information to track down and kill the enemy. Although Lucien and his team found small successes, their efforts were mostly in vain, as the Children of Freedom knew how to operate without being noticed better than most. To add to this, the efforts of the QMI were more focused on dealing both with the Coalition and rumors of an impending war between the Coalition and Tolkeen. Lucien was able to find a bit of success though from locals who trusted the QMI more than they did the Children of Freedom and were willing to give away their location for a small fee or favor. The squad was able to hunt down various members of Viper Delta before the war with the Coalition states came to abrupt end, and with it, the hunt for the Children of Freedom. Free Quebec had lost interest in hunting down the terrorists now that Emperor Prosek had taken responsibility for the cause of the war.

The day Free Quebec called off the hunt for the Children of Freedom was the day Lucien filed his request to be discharged from military service. He felt as though Free Quebec had betrayed the citizens they swore to protect, and for that reason could no longer fight for such a nation. Instead, Lucien swore his own personal vendetta against the Children of Freedom, vowing to personally hunt down and kill every last member of their terrorist organization for the unnecessary bloodshed they spilled. However, Lucien knew he needed his support structure if he was to gather the information necessary to find them. More specifically, Lucien knew he needed the support of the Black Market; the ultimate purveyors of information within North America.

Lucien turned to his old connections in Old Bones to get him hooked up with members of Le Marché Noir. It took a bit of "persuading", but eventually Lucien gained the trust of Le Marché noir and was able to work for them. Lucien learned quickly that his skills acquired within the Quebec military made him an excellent Black Market Enforcer, and the tricks he learned working for the QMI were excellent resources to tap into when “leaning on clients”, or trying to dig up blackmail on certain individuals. As a military trained sniper, Lucien was an excellent asset to remove targets without any ties back to Le Marché Noir, or whomever was paying him. For months Lucien worked solely for Le Marché Noir, and while he was able to learn a great deal about the Children of Freedom and their movements, it was not enough. Lucien could see that Le Marché Noir had already been working with the Children of Freedom, and as such was not fond of selling out one of their clients.

Eventually Lucien realized he would need more than the support of one Black Market organization if he was to really infiltrate Viper Delta and the Children of Freedom, so he turned his attentions to MercTown, the Black Market hot-spot of the East. If there was any city that held the information he needed it was that one, and it was a perfect spot to to find work when the Black Market was dry on jobs. He knew he'd have to get in with another, if not multiple Black Market factions to gain the information he desired, and he was willing to put in the effort to do so; whatever it took to bring justice to those traitors.
