Possible Quirk Ideas

-Every time X feature is engaged, the wearer has a static charge for the rest of the day- shocking anyone and anything they may touch, mostly for comedic effect.

-Rather than be renewed like most magical armors, the Force Field Projector has to regenerate M.D.C. over time similar to a Naruni Force Field. The P.P.E. cost simply activates it for the duration, without automatically renewing the M.D.C..

-Every 10th (or 9th, or even every) time the Magic Over Matter Adrenal Boost is activated, the pilot must make a save vs. insanity or develop inanities akin to a Crazy. (If this route is chosen, it might due to give the Magic Over Matter Adrenal Boost some extra kick or duration, or lessen the negative effects at the end.)
The first time the pilot fails, she develops a phobia (random or selected by GM from the encounter)
The second time the pilot fails, she develops an affective disorder. (random or selected by GM from the encounter)
The third time the pilot fails, she rolls on the Crazy Insanities Tables
The fourth time the pilot fails, she develops an obsession. (random or selected by GM from the encounter)
The fifth time the pilot fails, she develops another phobia. (random or selected by GM from the encounter)
The sixth time the pilot fails, she develops a neurosis. (random or selected by GM from the encounter)
Every time the pilot fails after the sixth, she rolls on the random insanity table or gets assigned any insanity by her GM. (although she's probably already completely batshit crazy, and one more insanity is barely going to get noticed)

-The Magic Over Matter Adrenal Boost is addictive. The pilot must roll save vs. mind influencing magic every time this feature is activated or become addicted to the feeling, needing a fix every day. (This would be really mean combined with the previous quirk)

Per the Game-Master Guide, Enchanted Arrows exist in Rifts.

If an arrowhead can be enchanted, a bullet likely holds the same capacity. It could end up being ~100k per clip of ammunition, but it would be nice to have the option.

The following item belongs to Brianna Clarke and was introduced to her by Maniacal Laugh (now EBAH) in this post and is from the Beyond the Shadows (BtS) game, where it belonged to Claire Morrison and is seen on her sheet; Sara's (Brianna's player) former BtS Character.

Intent: As per PM to Augur, posting here to format and update the weapon to site standards to be added to PC's sheet.


Dagger Name: Mesi Irisi (a female name literally "Water of Isis")
Disposition: Patient, Clever, Pious (towards Isis), yet somewhat Egotistic (full of itself).

Inscribed Runes on Dagger Blade: The dagger runes state the name of Mesi Irisi, and that it is a powerful holy tool of the goddess Isis. (Isis was the friend of slaves, sinners, artisans, the downtrodden, as well as listening to the prayers of the wealthy, maidens, aristocrats and rulers. Isis is also the Goddess of motherhood, magic and fertility.) Aside from these runes giving it an identity, there are these sequential lines: "Ordeal leads to epiphany; Seek the Righteous Path always; Let Isis arm and protect you."

A small globe of light appears that is bright enough to light up a 12 foot area per lvl of caster. It is magical daylight and will harm any or ward off any creature vulnerable to the sun. Caster can move the globe along with them mentally at a speed of up to 12.

Level 3:
Cloud of Steam. PPE: 10
30 ft area cloud up to 90 feet away. 2d6 SDC per melee round for anyone passing through it and blinds them for 1d6 melees (-10 to strike, parry, dodge)

Level 4:
See the Invisible. PPE: 4
Range: 200 feet
Duration: 1 min per caster lvl
Allows caster to see astral beings, entities, elementals, ghosts, objects and forces that can turn or are naturally invisible.

Level 5:
Walk the Waves. PPE: 5
Allows caster to walk on water, but the water must be relatively calm and the waves no higher than 4 feet.

Level 6:
Chameleon. PPE: 6
Range: Self or others by touch.
Duration: 4.5 minutes per caster lvl
Causes caster to blend into surroundings. 90% undetectable if not moving. 70% undetectable if moving 2 feet per melee round. 20% undetectable if moving 6 feet per melee round. Totally ineffective if moving faster. Works against normal vision and See Invisible and most optical systems.

Level 7:
Swim as a Fish. PPE: 6
Range: Self or others by touch.
Duration: 10 mins per caster lvl
Allows caster or whomever he touches to breathe and swim expertly underwater up to a depth of 2 miles. +2 to parry/dodge while in water.

Level 8:
Extinguish Fire. PPE: 4
Range: 20 foot radius and can be cast from up to 80 feet away +10 feet per caster lvl.
Duration: 1 min per caster lvl
Instantly puts out fire. Up to 40 feet can be extinguished every melee round.


Level 9:
Resist Cold. PPE: 6
Duration: 5 mins per caster lvl
Renders caster impervious to cold up to 10 degrees below zero. Magic cold attacks do only half damage.

Level 10:
Turn Dead. PPE: 6
Range: Up to 60 feet away.
Duration: Insant effect
This invocation will repel 1d6 animated dead per caster lvl. Dead who are turned will not return for 24 hours. Only affects mindless undead like skeletons, simple zombies, and animated corpses. Does not affect anything with intelligence.

Level 11:
Protection from Lightning. PPE: 25
Duration: 3 mins per caster lvl
The caster is rendered impervious to lightning and electricity effects.

Level 12:
Resist Fire. PPE: 6
Range: Self or others
Duration: 5 mins per caster lvl
Caster or those he touches rendered resistant to fire. Heat has no effect, and fire both normal and magic only do half damage.

Level 13:
Part Waters. PPE: 50
Range: 500 feet long by 10 feet wide per caster lvl
Duration: 5 mins per caster lvl
Enables caster to part the waters of lakes, rivers, seas, etc. Cuts a swath of water so the seabed can be walked on. If concentration broken, 70% chance of drowning, and everyone caught in it takes 1d4x10 damage; triple for seas; quadruple for oceans.

Dagger History: Mesi Irisi was created during the 12th dynasty of the middle kingdom of Egypt by a priest of Isis. It was presented to Ammenemes I as a gift sometime during his reign (1985-1956 BCE). How it was used and how it was passed down through the generations of Egyptian kings, queens, and priests will be forever lost to the annals of time. There are brief periods in history where it is believed to have resurfaced for a time.

In 33 BCE, Mark Antony (a Roman) divorced his wife, Octavia and lived with his Egyptian queen, Cleopatra. He also charged Octavian (Octavia’s brother) with usurping power. Octavian responded by charging Antony with treason and starting a war without the senate’s authorization (which was true). In 32 BCE, the senate declared war on Cleopatra, because they knew that declaring war on Antony would lose them popular support. In 31 BCE, with the senate’s blessing, Octavian invaded Egypt. By August, 30BCE, Octavian had reached Alexandria, where Antony and Cleopatra were. Most historians believe that Antony committed suicide because he thought Cleopatra had already done so. He was then carried to where she was hiding, and died in her arms. (See Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet for more details. :)) The truth was that a priest of Isis, who favored Octavian over Antony, used Mesi Irisi to murder Mark Antony. (One side note of interest: Octavian was made Caesar in 27 BCE, and took the name Augustus. Because he conquered the Egyptians in that summertime month, it is now named August.)

Again Mesi Irisi fell into obscurity and much of its history is lost. It spent many years in dark cellars or sitting on a shelf, waiting for someone to pick it up and do Isis’ glorious work. And thus, many years later, it was found by one John Fulton, a British army officer. Fulton served under Duke George Villers, First Duke of Buckingham (and source of many Three Musketeers’ tales). In 1627, in an attempt to rescue his Hessian allies pinned down in France, Buckingham led a disastrous invasion. He lost 4000 of his 7000 man force and was forced to retreat. While he was organizing a second attempt, he was stabbed to death by Fulton in the Greyhound Public House (a bar). Fulton was hanged for his crime, and Buckingham was buried in Westminster Abbey. His tomb bears the inscription “aenigmatis de orbis terrarium”, translated to mean “enigma of the world”. One of Villers descendants, John Sheffield, built Buckingham house in honor of Villers name in 1703. The house was later sold to King George III in 1761, and has since become known as Buckingham Palace.There is an exclusive dining and debating club, the Villers Club, which is a society at Oxford University, which hold the memory of Villers, first Duke of Buckingham, sacred.

How Mesi Irisi got from the hands of John Fulton to the bar in Williams house is not known. But it is there our story picks up next. He was drawn to it by the fact that it was still shiny. It had not a spot of rust on it at all. It also has some strange script written on the hilt and the length of the blade. He has only been able to decipher some of the script. Enough to know that it is Egyptian made and seemingly indestructable.

Research notes: It is clear the Egyptians used daggers for self-protection, close combat & warfare. They were also pieces of adornment. The ceremonial meaning of daggers is unclear. Their use to "close" and "open" magical circles was, as far as I know, not part of the Egyptian ritual. However, as a dagger was found on the mummy of Tutankhamun (ca. 1333 - 1323 BCE), we may at least speculate a funerary function in the Duat, reflective of a this-life symbol of direct protection & the mastery of dangerous power. On the active side of the Ceremonial Dagger, a Lotus is represented with its top pointing outward (on the dagger of king Tut, the Lotus points inward, toward the hand). This to indicate the use of the Dagger is only permitted to protect Life, Light and Love, symbolized by the Blue Lotus, never to operate death, darkness and hatred.

Ceremonial daggers and swords are used in the purposes of
1) cutting - opening/ closing of circle/ sacred space,
2) manipulation of various classifications of spirits.

Daggers of various designs were found on archeological site locations worldwide. During the initiation in tradition of magic, of any type, dagger/ sword can be given to the initiate. Symbols that denote name of the owner, rank/ title, can be engraved/ inscribed on the handle or blade itself.

In different ways dagger can be 'dedicated' to the owner, protected, linked with specific God/ess/s that are patron Gods of the owner. Regarding the use in 'material' world, opinions are divided as to the use. First purpose (usually the only) is magical (described above). Traditions in various countries have influenced the design of dagger/ sword. Specific purpose of the dagger has also affected the design. If the individual desires to follow a specific culture, it is only logical that their dagger follows a traditional design.

Keeping and maintenance - keeping in 1) wrapped in a piece of cloth, 2) wooden box, 3) leather sheath are usual ways of keeping the dagger. Depending of the metal of blade, it might be needed to periodically oil the blade so that it's qualities are kept through the time.

Ceremonial dagger is a personal property, and, depending on the owner, to look at, or handle it, permission needs to be given first. Ceremonial daggers can be sharp or dull, which depends on personal preferences and a specific tradition.

6. Links to wielder/owner within six months of constant contact. Thus, both man and weapon can sense each other's presence within a four mile radius if separated.
7. Adds +1 to all saving throws.
8. Can be used only by a person of a good alignment. Characters of an incompatible alignment take 2D4 points of damage each time they touch the weapon or 3D6 damage if a creature of magic.

  • Cast incantations:
    • Globe of Light (2), Cloud of Steam (10), See the Invisible (4), Walk the Waves (5), Chameleon (6), Swim as a Fish (6)
    • The weapon knows only the six spells but can cast them in any combination.
    • The number of spells it can cast per 24 hours is limited by its P.P.E. (90)
    • P.P.E. recovers at a rate of 10 every three hours.
    • Spell selection is limited to levels 1-3 and are equal in power to a sixth level wizard.
    • The P.P.E. of the weapon cannot be drawn upon by the user or practitioners of magic.

Personality: Patient, clever, pious towards Isis, somewhat egotistic. This personality was of a devotee to Isis who willingly sacrificed themselves during a ritual to become a permanent servant of their God.
History: Mesi Irisi was created during the 12th dynasty of the middle kingdom of Egypt by a priest of Isis. It was presented to Ammenemes I as a gift sometime during his reign (1985-1956 BCE). How it was used and how it was passed down through the generations of Egyptian kings, queens, and priests will be forever lost to the annals of time. There are brief periods in history where it is believed to have resurfaced for a time.
