Given the invitation to the banquet, it was clearly impolite to leave...even if it was a long time off. Still, Fox had a number of things to do. In fact, he was busy.

First thing in the morning each day was communing with his new sword. It takes time and the use of Object Reading to bond deeply with the strange crystal weapon. It also talks, which seems quite odd though Fox can not recall why it seems strange. The first thing he learns is how to make it manifest a blade, a thing that seems to be made of crystal that glows silver with a green core. He soon learned it was a powerful healing device as well as a weapon...this was likely why it picked him though the possession of the other crystal device no doubt attracted its attention...it could have picked any Mind Mage or Sensitive in the city but few Healers have Object Reading as a power.

After that, it is off to join the other healers at work. It was clear that he could cure diseases and wounds faster with the sword, he does not need to diagnose the problem or meditate when using it, but sometimes it is a bit more effort to get the same effect. Either way, there is only so much he can do before exhausting his Mind Magic, so most of his time is spent using his medical skills not his powers...with his powers saved for those most in need. He also has his ring, wand, and cloak to assist in healing...though he was generally careful not to let anyone know what part of his healing magic came from where lest someone try to steal from him.

After that, at first it was lessons in the written form of Eastern, and then it was reading...or at least attempting to read. A lot of times the terms were too technical for him and he had to study the pictures and try to figure things out from context. The was starting with something he knew well Holistic Medicine, figuring it would be easiest for him to understand.

It was morning, and Fox was at the Healing Temple. There are a pair of guards watching him, he is not certain if they are assigned to protect him from those who might fear Wolfen (which many still think of him as), or assigned to watch him because as someone from the Wolfen Empire he is not fully trusted. It does not matter as long as they do not interfere with his work.

There are other healers present, some are like him, Psychic healers who use the magic of the mind. Others are Healing Priests, granted healing magic by their faith and their gods. Others are specialist mages who study healing magic. Finally there are the mundane healers, those who use only physical skill to heal. As all the healers can generally heal by skills also, some of the others look down on this last group, but the fact is they have a lot to contribute to any discussion.

It had been several weeks since the dragon was slain, and those in need of healing had dropped in numbers greatly, though there were occasions when things happened. This was one of those.

A messenger rushed in, "The Hippodrome, big chariot accident."

That was all it took to send Fox and many others on the way. Fortunately one of the healing mages also knew the Magic Portal spell and could open a way for a team to go through.

It was evident what had happened, one of the leading chariots had overturned, the horses had fallen in their traces, they the ones behind had become tangled and fallen themselves. Some had avoided falling, but had trampled those before them. All in all there were a number of badly hurt charioteers and horses.

The process was fairly well established, the Priests would use Healing Touch to help stabilize the apparently worst hurt, then the skilled healers would diagnose the hurt to get a rough estimate of what they would need. The healing Wizards would work what magic they could on the ones who were diagnosed as needing IMMEDIATE healing, because their healing magic was faster. Finally the psychic healers would come in with Psychic Diagnosis and Psychic Surgery to set bones strait and repair internal injuries.

Where was Fox during all this? Well he was doing many things. First he used the Leaf Blanket of healing and Lust for Life on some of those in shock to help them survive. He used his Greater Healing and Mend the Broken from his ring on some of the worst hurt until it was exhausted. Then he joined the psychic healers and began treating internal injuries with his powers. Once his powers were exhausted he joined the Chirurgeons and Surgeons in treating the less hurt.

He stood up when someone tried to kill some of the hurt horses and said, "We are healers, we HEAL, not kill, these also are our patients." While a few disagreed, there was enough agreement that the horses were spared, though it was ruled they would get only skill based healing until the hurt people were dealt with.

After long hours or work and exhausting his mental resources, he skipped going to the Library to study, too tired to try to make sense of the foreign words and concepts.
