Temple of Light and Dark


A large and ornate edifice, larger than is needed. Of the nearly 10,000 Llornians who are on the Church's rolls, a mere 2,500 actually attend services. Bishop Rose Nodeki, head of the Church's entire Eastern arm, has come to the city several times over the past three years in an effort to motivate them. The efforts have been in vain. As is the case most everywhere in the East, the people are polarized toward good or evil. There is little room for the open-minded acceptance necessary for an all-encompassing church like the Church of Light and Dark where gods of both persuasions share equal status.

The Church is always open to new members. In an effort to increase support, they have taken to offering their healing services for free to members of the Church and requiring a mere 5 gold donation for non-members.

The priests do their job swiftly, efficiently, and reverently. They anoint the gnome's body, wrap it in a shroud, perform rites, and whisk it out of sight for burial. Tending next to the bringer of the dead, the priests disrobe Trask, and an acolyte carries away his clothes for cleansing and purification while the priests have him bathe, kneel, and supplicate himself before an altar for a number of hours while three priests pray over his prostrate form and, occasionally lay hands on him. After what seems forever, but is only three hours in actuality, the three priests are a bit haggard and wane looking, and Trask feels only stiffness and soreness. All the injuries he had sustained have been fully healed and he finds himself in good health, if a little weak from the hard, forced march and the blood loss.

Thorgrim takes in the massive structure of the Church of Light and Dark in awe and appreciation before conversing with the closest acolyte or priest he can find. ”Holyman, my friend Trask - a scarred veteran - recommended your church as the finest to visit. Surely your gods would not oppose healing a warrior in the service of Llorn, for a nominal donation to their church? I ask for your help as I still feel as though I’ve been on the business end of a stampede of obese trolls. I’m happy to contribute gold to your church in appreciation of this.”

If given healing services, Thor thanks, pays them, and asks before leaving; ”As I mentioned my friend Trask, did he pass through here? Do you know where he was off to? He took off abruptly since we last met.”

Thorgrim sees a heavily scarred supplicant laid prostrate before an altar with three priests hovering around him. It takes a moment as the man is largely unclothed, but within moments Thorgrim recognizes the man as Trask himself. (When a character enters a scene he cannot "overhear" more than one post prior to his arrival.) Thorgrim looks every bit as haggard and injured as did Trask when he came in and so a priest with an especially funny hat summons three more priests as he dismisses the current batch hovering around Trask.

It's 10 GP per healing touch (2D4 healed each--I have a Hangouts Brandon created for me for this express purpose).

Trask practically needs to be roused from his healing as his exhaustion causes him to slip in and out of consciousness. Hearing Thorgrim ask about him. "I'm over here my friend. I'll be heading to the guildhouse after this. Likely too late to get a room elsewhere." Trask says with a weary yawn. Utu forgive my use of these heathen priests. Trask thinks grimly to himself. Once the Priests are finished with their efforts. "Many thanks, I feel fit enough to fight again." Trask says while settling up his debt to the temple. Two hundred and fifty crowns, gods be damned. Closing his coin pouch, Trask stuffs it back into his jerkin. Trask makes his way out of the temple, collecting Garrick on the way. "Sorry friend I know you're tired, soon you'll be able to rest." Trask says as he leads the Mule back to his usual residence.

Thorgrim does his best not to chuckle at the ridiculous attire in which the clergy adorns themselves in. Ha! Its as if a whore putting on their ‘finest’ silks to gain favor from their gods... quite the professionals they are, hehehe. The barbarian complies with the instructions, however finding the process to be rather odd, himself. He remarks to Trask as his healing begins and the sour veteran is on his way out. ”Not sure what I’ve gotten myself into here, old man. I trust your word that this will work, eh? For certain, I will return there after running some errands; a time for food, drink, and counsel on what lies ahead. I will see you after I catch up with Thoran Goldenbeard. I haven’t forgotten about your want of a throwing knife.”

Upon completion of the church’s healing services, Thor relinquishes the necessary gold. ”You have my thanks, holy men...”, and a sizable chunk of my damned gold, methinks...
Thorgrim dresses, gathers his belongings and heads off to Goldenbeard Armories in the Grand Bazaar.

Hours later, the fresh batch of priests finish in much the same haggard condition as the previous batch, and Thorgrim rises sore and stiff from his penance and healing on the stone floor, but all his wounds appear healed. Covered only in sweat and a loincloth, the priests having cleansed him as well as healed him, he stands ready to face the day anew.

Somewhere during the healing, Fox will show up. He will meditate as the healing of Thorgrim progresses, he needed to recover ISP anyway and this is a way to do so without actually wasting time.

Fox arrives not long after the rituals are begun and settles down to meditate. (Fox meditates for 2 hours) As the sun begins to wane in the sky, Thorgrim rises and the batch of exhausted priests retire to recover themselves. Thorgrim makes the required donation for such extensive services. The head priest wishes the two a good day and mentions in passing not to send any of their friends to the temple for the rest of the day, save for prayer, as all his acolytes are exhausted.
