Explanatory Notes for Explorer Points

Skill Rewards
(1 EP) Upgrade Existing Skill One Level
(2 EP) Skill Download: New Secondary Skill
(4 EP) Skill Download: New O.C.C. Related Skill
(5 EP) Upgrade Existing Combat Skill One Level (W.P., HTH, Robot Combat, etc.)
(6 EP) Skill Download: Normally Unavailable Skill

Rewards of this type take effect immediately upon redemption and inclusion in the player character's character sheet. Always check the skill in question via the Unified Skill list for possible variations or additional costs.

Intrinsic Rewards
(1 EP) Perception Boost (+5%)
(3 EP) Perception Boost (+15%)
(5 EP) Perception Boost (+25%)

Rewards of this type take effect immediately upon redemption and inclusion in the player character's character sheet. Perception Boosts do not stack, and each redemption is separate.

(5 EP) Master New Minor Psychic Ability
(5 EP) Manifest One New Minor Super Power
(10 EP) Master One New Super Psychic Ability
(15 EP) Manifest One New Major Super Power

Rewards of this type must first be included in the player character's character sheet upon redemption. Then the new ability/power must be manifested as an in-character discovery through roleplay. Players and GMs are advised to coordinate in order to make this occur as soon as contextually possible. Power selection is determined as normal. Necessarily, non-psychics cannot develop psychic abilities, "super" psionics are still exclusive to master psychics, and non-mutants cannot develop super powers.

(2 EP) Mutate an existing minor power (semi-random outcome)
(4 EP) Mutate an existing minor power (chosen outcome)
(7 EP) Mutate an existing major power (semi-random outcome)
(15 EP) Mutate an existing major power (chosen outcome)

Any mutated power will be so noted with a (Mutated) suffix on the character sheet. This power is no longer unstable; it is fixed, and can never again be changed.

(1 EP) Purchase 1 Bio-E point for a Mutant Animal character

Bio-E points are exclusive to Mutant Animal characters. The cost and restrictions regarding Growth Levels, Human Features, Animal Powers, Animal Psionics, and Animal Super Abilities are all as per HU2 rules as written.

Magic Rewards
(2 EP) Access Reward (Low): New Spell (from Incantation Levels 1-4, 1-2 for Elemental Magic), or Tattoo Modifier for an existing animal, monster, simple weapon, or magic weapon tattoo
(4 EP) Access Reward (Mid): New Spell (from Incantation Levels 5-8, 3-4 for Elemental Magic), or Simple Weapon/Animal Tattoo
(10 EP) Access Reward (High): New Spell (from Incantation Levels 9-12, 5-6 for Elemental Magic) or Dimensional, Magic Weapon, Monster, Monster Shaping, Power, or Power Arrow tattoo
(15 EP) Access Reward (Very High): New Spell (from Incantation Levels 13-15, 7-8 for Elemental Magic)

Rewards of this type must first be included in the player character's character sheet upon redemption. Then the new spell knowledge or tattoo must be manifested as an in-character discovery through roleplay. Players and GMs are advised to coordinate in order to make this occur as soon as contextually possible. Necessarily, non-mages cannot manifest magic knowledge.

(20 EP) Access Unlock (Legend): New Spell of Legend

Rewards of this type must first be included in the player character's character sheet upon redemption. Spells of this type must then be earned as part of a quest obtained via the Collegiate Arcane, Deity, or some other super-powerful arcane source. GMs are advised to weave such quests into the player character's next adventure. Players and GMs are advised to coordinate in order to make this occur as soon as contextually possible.

Necessarily, non-mages cannot learn and channel spells.
Q: Does using EP to purchase a spell allow you access to a spell you normally could not gain access to?
A: No. If your O.C.C. restricts your type of spell magic, you stay within those restrictions.

Q: Can one use EP to purchase a restricted tattoo type (Monster-Shaping from Clan Skellian for example)?
A: The player should discuss with his/her respective GM how they will via RP determine the circumstances of obtaining the tattoo will occur before purchasing the tattoo with EP.

Meta Rewards
(# EP) Start a New Character at a higher than standard experience level.

Rewards of this type take effect immediately upon redemption, and may be used at any time. This reward is not applicable at any time after character creation. Each level of experience beyond the starting level costs an amount equal in EP to the level desired, plus all levels previous, combined.
Example: 4 EP to start at 4th level, +5 additional EP for 5th level, +6 additional EP for 6th, etc. Thus, to start at 6th level would require a total expenditure of 15 EP.

(1 EP) Automatic Critical Success (includes skill rolls, combat actions, scroll study, tinkering attempt, etc.)
(5 EP) Deus ex machina (Ex post facto EP expenditure for one Automatic Critical Success as above.)

Rewards of this type take effect immediately upon redemption. This reward is not applicable at any time during character creation.
Automatic Critical Successes are specified when you make your post.
Deus ex machinas are specified after you've made your post, but must be applied prior to the next GM post. GMs will not re-write GM posts.

(1 EP) Automatic save vs. Insanity during character creation

Rewards of this type must be redeemed prior to completion of a new character submission.

(5 EP) I.S.P. Boost (+1D4x10)
(5 EP) P.P.E. Boost (+1D4x10)
(5 EP) S.D.C. Boost (+1D4x10)

Rewards of this type take effect immediately upon redemption and inclusion in the player character's character sheet. Each type of boost is only purchasable once. Post as a reply to your character sheet your die roll results using the site's die roller.

(1 EP) Attribute Boost (applicable to attributes under 16, +1D6)
(5 EP) Attribute Boost (applicable to attributes 16+, +1D6)

Rewards of this type take effect immediately upon redemption and inclusion in the player character's character sheet, and are limited to one purchase per attribute. Post as a reply to your character sheet your die roll results using the site's die roller. Each roll directly corresponds to the attribute for which it was rolled. (If you pay for multiple attributes to be improved in this manner, you do not select after the fact to which attribute a particular roll will be applied.) If, by a 1 EP boost, an attribute is raised to 16+, that attribute may also be boosted once at the 5 EP level.

(5 EP) Access Unlock: Favorable Contact within Merctown
(8 EP) Access Unlock: Influential Contact within MercTown
(15 EP) Access Unlock: Powerful Contact

Rewards of this type must first be included in the player character's character sheet upon redemption. Players and GMs are advised to coordinate in order to make this occur as soon as contextually possible through direct roleplay with the contact in question. Consider the organization when scaling these unlocks, and consider the greater scale of that organization in relation to the greater narrative arc and influence of such NPCs. The CEO of a small shipping company is not of the same level, for example, and Joseph Prosek. Examples:

    • Favorable Contact--a resident scholar/mage in the collegiate or squad or company leader in the CS
    • Influential Contact--a high-ranking member in the collegiate or a regional governor or regimental commander in the CS
    • Powerful Contact--one of the members of the ruling council of the collegiate or one of the top brass/big players in the CS

(3 EP) Choice of power category under Greater choice of individual powers

The same price applies regardless of power tier.

(5 EP) Access Reward: Letter List Demographic Exception
(10 EP) Access Reward: Regional Origin Demographic Exception
(15 EP) Access Reward: Dimensional Origin Demographic Exception

Rewards of this type must first be included in the player character's character sheet upon redemption. No High Powered Character List exceptions will be made. "Letter List" refers to "A List, B List, etc." type character classes as explained here. A demographic exception allows for that one player to exceed by ONE ONLY the demographic cap placed upon a specific class.

(5 EP) Patron Item Permanence Unlock

Once purchased via the marketplace, this unlock will be recorded on your ledger. This unlock guarantees your patron items don't go away regardless of the number of patrons so long as your own patronage is maintained. This is an unlock, and therefore applicable to all of a player's characters.

Account Unlocks
(3 EP) Inactive Character Slot

An inactive character slot allows the player to have an inactive character without that character counting toward his active character limit. This type of reward takes effect immediately upon redemption. A character placed on "hiatus" through this mechanism will be archived as-is, and, when returned to play, will be the same as he left. Characters simply abandoned or retired will do over the equipment as if new characters.

(5 EP) Second Character Account
(10 EP) Third Character Account
(20 EP) Fourth Character Account

Rewards of this type take effect immediately upon redemption.

(10 EP) Per Each Additional Character Account

Rewards of this type take effect immediately upon redemption. Any character account beyond one's fourth account will cost 10 EP.

Note: Any character account (active or inactive) not being used by a character is considered "OPEN" and available for future use.

(15 EP) Unlock an inactive slot retroactively for a flaked or retired character.

This allows a player to return to a character that he was unable to make inactive using the procedure detailed here. The character in question must be your own submission, and must have been rewarded experience points after November 2014 (the date of E.P. implementation). The character must be updated to the current template, but will not lose any equipment. This will remove that character from the players' ledger of flaked characters. A commitment of interest is required for all characters brought back from the archives in this manner regardless of the player's flaked character status. The inactive slot purchased in this manner may be used the same as any other inactive slot afterwards.

Character Unlock Rewards
See Dimensional Unlocks section below.

Clarification Notes #1: New HTH Skills

General question: What happens if someone changes their HTH skill via EP?
Answer: Their old HTH skill is now null and void as Palladium (with some incredibly rare exceptions) allows for only one HTH skill.
Context: This is only achievable after chargen, and requires the appropriate EP purchase.

Question: At what level does a newly purchased HTH skill start?
Answer: Like all new skill purchases, the skill starts at first level.
Context: This is only achievable after chargen, and requires the appropriate EP purchase.
EP Menu Item in Question: (5 EP) Upgrade Existing Combat Skill One Level (W.P., HTH, Robot Combat, etc.)

Question: What happens to bonuses from the previous HTH Combat Skill?
Answer: All bonuses from the previous skill are subtracted from the character.
Context: This is only achievable after chargen, and requires the appropriate EP purchase.
EP Menu Item in Question: (5 EP) Upgrade Existing Combat Skill One Level (W.P., HTH, Robot Combat, etc.)

Situation: Character purchases a normally available Hand to Hand Combat Skill
Context: Done after chargen, this requires the appropriate EP purchase(s).
Context: Done during chargen, the OCC description almost always requires the character to sacrifice one or more "Other/O.C.C. Related" skills. You cannot spend EP during character generation for ANYTHING except the following: (1 EP) Automatic save vs. Insanity during character creation.
Appropriate EP Menu Item(s): (5 EP) Upgrade Existing Combat Skill One Level (W.P., HTH, Robot Combat, etc.)

Situation: Character purchases a normally unavailable Hand to Hand Combat Skill
Context: Done after chargen, this requires the appropriate EP purchase(s).
Appropriate EP Menu Item(s): (6 EP) Skill Download: Normally Unavailable Skill

Milestone & Patronage Rewards Explanatory Notes

75-Milestone Reward: Patron Items
  • Patron Items only persist so long as patronage is maintained at the 75-patron milestone.
  • Patron items exist as a reflection of your patronage. If patron status ceases the items are 'lost' on the spot and 'recovered' when status resumes. Likewise, if a change in status precludes the availability of a given item, it is lost in the same manner.
  • Each character account is treated separately, with new/old characters each being entitled to a single item from any of the lists for which they qualify.
  • Once a patron item has been chosen it may not be swapped for a different one, sold, given away, traded, or any other voluntary action of the player.
  • A patron item may be lost or stolen like any other item--that is the domain of the GM. However, GMs are encouraged to see these items as a reflection of a player's commitment and contribution to the community and they ought not to be the target of a GM's attention outside the purpose of creating a positive roleplaying experience.
  • DMs may exclude/restrict particular items on the basis of being technologically inappropriate to their setting.

60-Milestone Reward: EPIC COUPON
  • This coupon is redeemable for a 50% discount on the purchase of any one EP Menu Item.
  • Creating a new sponsored organization is not an "EP Menu Item," so this Coupon is not applicable.

50-Milestone Reward: Character Account Unlock
  • (10 EP trade-in value)
  • This unlock is good regardless of your present number of Character Account Unlocks.
  • Does not count against present number of accounts for purposes of unlocking future accounts.

50-Milestone Reward: XP BOOST
  • This boost doubles the XP gained over the course of a single quadrimester.
  • The boost begins immediately upon redemption as a marketplace transaction.
  • This reward is good for one character account of the patron's choice.
  • No more than one XP boost can apply to any one character during a given quadrimester.
  • This boost can be gifted or traded.

35-Milestone Reward: Roll on the Fortune and Glory Table
  • (3 EP trade-in value)
  • The same limitations and rules which apply to the Fortune and Glory Table still apply.

25-Milestone Reward: Attribute Boost
  • (5 EP trade-in value)
  • Attribute Boost (applicable to attributes 16+, +1D6) for one of your characters.

25-Milestone Reward: Access Reward: Favorable Contact within Merctown
  • (5 EP trade-in value)
  • Favorable Contacts via this Milestone Reward are limited to these choices:
    • Geoff Blackman, CEO of Blackman Intelligence Resources
    • Tennessee Jack Crabtree, founder of the Tennessee Headhunters merc unit, and Headhunters Academy
    • Maritus Flavarrel, the secret guildmaster of the Ravenshome Thieve's Guild
    • Jacius Larkent, would-be emperor of the Manistique Imperium

Diamond Tier Patronage Reward: Access Reward for a Spell of Legend, or Powerful Contact, or New Major Super Power
  • (15 EP trade-in value)
  • The same limitation and restrictions apply to this access reward as are referenced in the explanatory notes for these individual menu options.

Ruby Tier Patronage Reward: Receive the High Powered Character Unlock
  • (15 EP trade-in value)
  • Ruby Tier Patreon status will be required in lieu of EP for this unlock.

Silver Tier Patronage Reward: One-time reward of an Inactive Character Slot
  • (3 EP trade-in value)
