Home to most of the dens of inequity on Grymdin. Blasphemous Refuge is a low-key drug den, tavern, and brothel with little to no network access as the building is constructed of materials which heavily interfere with and block signals. The one hotel of any size or reknown is the Stardust, a ten-story building that asks no questions, will charge per hour upon request, and always demands a heavy fee upfront if a guest has anything less than a sterling DRO reputation.

Niall hurriedly packs up his gear and drops his toolkit at the ship before heading with those not hitting the Morgue at the new rooms arranged for them at the Stardust hotel.

Once there, he fires up his datapad and resumes his search for Zed and/or Caja in the wanted listings for the DROs. (rolls here).

Once that's done, he starts thinking about the Compulsion's AI. While it would be nice to take control of the Compulsion... it'd be a blow to Zed, that's for certain... is it strictly necessary? Absent any other plan for taking out Zed... marooning him here by taking his ship would only be a temporary inconvenience. So is this something, now, that we're pursuing just to be a pain in the ass?

He speaks up to anyone not on the Morgue mission, "The Compulsion AI... I'm increasingly convinced that's a dead end. While I agree that it'd be ultimately very satisfying, I think we need to focus on earning enough to try to... He chuckles, not believing he's about to say this, "..buy a magic weapon." He shakes his head and smiles. "The Compulsion AI can be an alternate line of attack, to be sure, but... killing Zed would be preferable."

Niall leads Ryden and Gilina to packs up their gear, and head through the portal to the ship to drop off any unneeded gear. Once done, they make their way to the new hotel room at the Stardust Hotel. The neighborhood around the Stardust Hotel on Cloud & Spirit Street is generally commercial in nature, but a bit seedy and has an air of neglect about it. After settling in to the modest but comfortable appointments in their suite at the Stardust, Niall gets back to work investigating Zed and Caja. Zed is a total blank on the bounty boards of the DROs. Caja, however, is another matter. All three DROs have outstanding bounties on his head for a whole range of property crimes, none of the violent, but all of them larcenous in one way or another. By the spread and nature of the bounties against him, it's rather apparent that Caja is a professional thief, but not a con artist or killer.

He speaks up to Ryden and Gilina in the suite with him, "The Compulsion AI... I'm increasingly convinced that's a dead end. While I agree that it'd be ultimately very satisfying, I think we need to focus on earning enough to try to..." He chuckles. "...buy a magic weapon. The Compulsion AI can be an alternate line of attack, to be sure, but killing Zed would be preferable."

Niall looks around the seedy hotel, disappointment evident on his face. Frakking Zed. Frak you AND your frakking ship.

Setting himself to completing the search, he is disappointed but not surprised to see no record for any bounties on Zed.

He shrugs, and announces to Ryden and Gillina, "Well, Zed keeps his nose... or what passes for his nose... clean. No bounties on him. Caja is another story... but he's small potatoes. Probably no skin in the game. I'd bet Zed just hired him to create a diversion."

OOC Comments
Was there any record on the amounts of the bounties offered for Caja?

Sitting back, he covers his mouth with his hand, and thinks. How much of this... is personal? He's come after us multiple times. Tried to personally grab me - I only just got away from him. And he confounds us at every turn. And, yeah... I'd like to hang his wretched alien hide over my fireplace. But... I wonder if we can just buy him out? How much IS the bounty on us, anyway? Of course, that's assuming it's a traditional bounty, of course, and not a merc job. Just because he's singled out the 1st SOG doesn't mean it's about us - we could've been a target of opportunity. And he could be... basically a boarwulf on a scent. Track the scent until it's dead.

He sighs deeply, looking at his datapad.

The answer is here. He sighs. I wonder if we need to buy more time on the Felias network.

Turning back again to Ryden and Gillina, he says, "Bear with me, just thinking out loud here. Here are our options regarding Zed, as I see them. A) Earn money, buy ... 'magic' weapons..." Niall cannot resist rolling his eyes at the thought, "and kill him. That's my preferred option. B) Access the Compulsion and plant a virus that fraks his navigation computer so the moment he goes FTL he slams into a star or some asteroid or something. C) as far as I can see it, he's getting paid from someone. We find out who exactly, and how much, and buy him out. This, I think, is the least of our options. It opens up a bidding war, and there's a chance that he's a so-called "noble merc" and once he takes a job, there's no buying him off it. Frankly, it's a pretty lousy option. Option D), find out who offered the bounty, and remove their ability to pay it. Either by divesting them of their resources, or outright killing them."

Technically... fleeing is an option too. He sighs. "Those are our options as I see them. Obviously, my favorite is option A. But I'm biased, I realize, and I mostly just want him dead because I hate him. Am I missing anything? I realize I'm making a few assumptions here. One, that he's a bounty hunter or a merc, and not someone with a grudge against us. I think the way to support or disprove that assumption is to find out if there's a bounty on us, who is offering it, and how much it might be. If we want to continue using Grymdin in the future, we're going to want to clear any bounties before we come, or DROs are going to continue to be useless for us. Another assumption is that we, specifically, are the targets, and not Arismal generally. Finding the details on the contract - if there is one - will address that assumption."

"I think I've run out of things I can do without paying to access proprietary information networks like the F.I.N. And I'd rather you do that, Brainiac, than me, given how much faster you are than I am with that, and the fact that access is paid for based on how long you use it."

He tosses his datapad lightly on the bed, in disgust. I'm frakking getting nowhere. He looks at his datapad. All I have is information. But... is there enough? I have access to Grymdin's free network. I have my reference libraries... mostly medical stuff...

Niall tilts his head, as an idea crosses his mind. No. That... that would be evil...

He picks up his datapad. Wouldn't it?

Niall taps on his datapad, opening the reference libraries in one tab, and Grymdin's network in another.

Zed is a Nithian. I need medical knowledge on Nithians. Specifically, pathology.

Niall begins to research Nithian pathology - he's looking for any virus or other pathogen especially harmful to Nithians, but which might be harmless to Arismal. Releasing a bio-weapon on Grymdin would certainly be evil. I can't argue that. But if we encounter Zed somewhere isolated, it might help to have a secret advantage. He begins his search, his face focused and determined, but pale.

Computer Operation ☞ 90% 1d100 = 73 (SUCCESS)
Research ☞ 100% 1d100 = 61 (to ensure the following searches are done systematically and correctly - SUCCESS)
Lore: Alien ☞ 60% 1d100 = 8 (very general medical info about Nithians - SUCCESS)
Intelligence ☞ 66% 1d100 = 81 (any evidence we might have regarding Zed's possible immunities based on what we may have observed - FAIL)
Reference Library: Pathology ☞ 60% 1d100 = 16 (identify pathogens deadly to Nithians generally - SUCCESS)
Reference Library: Pathology ☞ 60% 1d100 = 62 (determine which, if any, are harmless to Arismal - FAIL)
Reference Library: Pathology ☞ 60% 1d100 = 63 (recheck and verify which, if any, are harmless to Arismal - FAIL)
Reference Library: Pathology ☞ 60% 1d100 = 75 (recheck and verify which, if any, are harmless to Arismal - FAIL)
Reference Library: Pathology ☞ 60% 1d100 = 89 (recheck and verify which, if any, are harmless to Arismal - FAIL)
Reference Library: Xeno-Biology ☞ 60% 1d100 = 66 (source any identified pathogens - does it come from an animal source? What animal? - FAIL)
Reference Library: Xeno-Botany ☞ 60% 1d100 = 91 (source any identified pathogens - does it come from a plant? Which plant? - FAIL)
Reference Library: Xeno-Biology ☞ 60% 1d100 = 37 (recheck and verify - SUCCEED)
Reference Library: Xeno-Botany ☞ 60% 1d100 = 11 (recheck and verify - SUCCEED)

If Niall identifies any virii or compounds that fit the bill (i.e., deadly or very harmful to Nithians with a high possibility of affecting Zed, but harmless to Arismal) he will search Grymdin's network for potential sources to cultivate or procure such material.

Computer Operation ☞ 90% 1d100 = 73 (SUCCEED)
Research ☞ 100% 1d100 = 72 (To examine Grymdin's sources of medical, scientific, or industrial supplies to see if such compounds are available and at what price - SUCCEED)
Research ☞ 100% 1d100 = 84 (to determine what, if any, permits or licenses are needed to legally purchase such - SUCCEED)

Niall's stomach churns as he does all of this. I am not a doctor. I am not a bio-engineer. This is not something I should be engaging in... at least, not without oversight. This is extremely dangerous. Old Gods, I would give anything for an honest-to-goodness doctor to verify this... if any actually would. I'm working on a bioweapon concept, for the gods' sake.

Niall compiles the information he finds, and annotates it as necessary, including noting that it needs to be vetted by a person with actual medical expertise before being employed. He then saves the file to his datapad.

"I need a drink." That's right, Niall, you bastard. Poison yourself.

Reverie of Ryden Hunter
OOC: This part has been copied to my background, but I wanted to include it here, partly as a reminder to everyone.

Forty-seven days. It had only been forty-seven days since his homeworld had died in a thunder of exploding rock

Zero day had been interesting. There he was, flirting with this stick up her ass officer named Lieutenant Tina...something...Martinez, while she flirted back. That was also the first time he'd seen PFC Regina DuCote, callsign Thumper, in action. The planet had exploded and they'd skidded onto the plating of the Guardian's flight deck. He'd heard Brynn's voice for the first time that day, though it'd be some time before he'd realize that. He even remembers when he first felt...whole after that - when he snapped down the visor of his VR suit. Poor Jessica had just been vacant after that. Thumper's co-pilot had to get her help, so he was out. The chaos had been busy, and that helped. Servo stepped in, took control, got him and Brynn and Tarmo all working to go get Speckles, Halko, and Bodean out with all the other folks aboard the habitat ring. Speckles had done his magic and squeezed a station full of folks into one pod. Good thing. They'd all done their job, rescued them, and jumped to the emergency coordinates he'd decoded.

At seven days he was given a game changer of a mission. Of course everyone suspected it was the brush heads. It was obvious really. Too obvious. Being told he was the last of his family wasn't news. His father and mother had been going to go visit an observatory as a vacation. Of course they'd also find time at the mountain resort they were staying at for some quiet time. Not for the first time, he wondered if they died in each other's arms. He hopes so, honestly. Better to die in the arms of the person you love than to die wondering if they are okay. He experienced that wonder from time to time when he thought of Digital Information Specialist Miwa Covell. With both of them on opposite teams, nothing was guaranteed. The approach was textbook. Thinking back, he smirks at the though of trying to talk Thumper into flying sideways. That had been funny. Blaster's idea. Funnier was that he was actually the cargo to that hard bitten team of marines and commandos. He'd actually gotten to ride inside of Servo in his car form. That never ceased to be weird. For as long as it lasted... He stops this train of thought. He and Servo had tag teamed that combat robot, and it had opened up like a high school freshman girl going out with her senior boyfriend. Then Servo had formed into the combat bot and they'd walked through the force fields into the bot bay. Things were tense, but okay. They got into a small dust up in the robot maintenance bay, and prepared a welcome for the carload of Mantellan troopers, even as they zoomed away to the main facility. He had suggested they sleaze their way in, but Speckles decided on a more traditional assault. So be it. Servo and Thumper had lost their lives there, trying to get him into position. He had felt so helpless. They'd gotten in, rescued Nova, who'd been a prisoner there, plus a few others. Together Nova and he holed up at the jack-in point, and he fought his way through an Atorian nerd's wet dream. A lot happened while he was out, but he'd received a motherload of data. The Empress Makeda of Vikelter had ordered Arismal's demise. Their jump drives and their innate abilities would change the balance of power in the quadrant to one that did not favor the Empire. What had been billed as a backwater intelligence relay had in fact been one of the intelligence repositories for the Empire's entire Liloquan border. If only he'd spent just a little more time grabbing other data too! They'd know so much. He'd grabbed more than he needed, of course, but not enough. That, and taking Mila, had been why they'd sent Zed after us, of course. No way to know how much we grabbed, so assume the worst. Wait, that means they weren't second guessing us, they were putting reaction teams in place where they knew they had juicy data. They'd gotten lucky, plus they had the manpower to spare. Plus the interrogation of Mila, so they know our food situation. Frack, it's so obvious!'

Coming back, the debrief, the ceremony, getting assigned Mila, the bar fight and meeting Miwa Covell had been a blur. Then they met the Lupis, and that was an experience. Afterwards they left for the mission to Phorilla that changed everything. They obtained the ships, they got overtaken by Zed, they lost Mila, but gained Mika. But their issues with Zed still come back to that first raid. When a band of Arismal Operators infiltrated one of the most secure data centers in the Atorian Empire and got away with data. According to the Atorians, the group and the fleet had to die...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He's pulled out of his reverie by Niall speaking, Ryden listens. When Niall starts talking about the AI, he nods. "I don't mind throwing down against the AI, but not where meat is on the line." When he starts going into the options, Ryden shakes his head. "You're assuming he's a normal bounty hunter. He's not. He works for Empress Makeda of Vikelter, or if not her directly, one of her trouble shooters in her court." He cants his voice low, just in case. "Thing is, I told you once about how we hit a data store house. What we thought we were hitting was some backwater intel relay. What we actually hit was their center for intelligence on this entire frontier. They had to blow it to keep us from getting too much out. They think we got everything. I wish that were true. I didn't have a clue what I was in until I was there. I wish I had grabbed everything. Or at least more. But that's why we are such priority targets. We have personal knowledge of their intelligence aparatus, and we are the key to finding the fleet and ending the threat to the Empire all together. Their analysts predicted that without drastic measures, we would join the FAR, share our jump drive technology and add our operatives to the FAR's on a scale that would tip the balance in this sector away from the Atorians and into the FAR's, with us as a majority partner. So instead the murdered our homeworld, all our people, and made us mistrust every damn being in the galaxy. They've been finding us because they have the operative strength to literally be everywhere, the analysts to be think through every lead, and the drive and motivation to wipe us out. So no, buying him out is not an option - we can't pay him more than one of the Empresses of the Atorian Empire can. Thing I would love to know is what are they planning that our knowledge of it is so detrimental as to warrant hunting us relentlessly."

He resumes a normal-ish, though quiet tone as he moves on from the subject. "I really need to make a backup of my suit. It's too vulnerable to damage, and we don't have replacements back home. Can I get you guys to help me take it apart, figure out equivalent components and put it back together afterwards? As it's part of how I move so fast, I could use some help with the catalogs finding equivalent components."

I figure a bunch of Computer Repair, Electrical Engineering, and Research rolls; Augur let me know how many and we'll get them posted.

Posted bounties on Caja range from a number of 10,000 credit bounties to one from SSS that is 50,000 credits and includes a footnote that should he be killed during apprehension, the contractor will still be paid provided the identity of the criminal can be confirmed.

Niall conducts his searches systematically and correctly. General medical info about Nithians is easy to find. Nithians evolved within the harsh atmosphere of their homeworld, so they can breathe
foul air and their skin is thick, scaly and toughened to protect them. The scales are tight and close fitting with additional large scales on the neck, shoulders and back. Skin colors are various
shades of yellow, tan and orange. Their heads are wide, with a large mouth filled with large, pointed teeth. He next looks for evidence they might have regarding Zed's possible immunities based on what they have so far observed--to no avail. He then tries to identify pathogens generally deadly to Nithians. As they are resistant to the effects of toxins in general, this is generally limited to aggressive microbial viruses and bacterial agents...just like the Arismal. Attempting to find examples of such that are a danger to Nithians but not to Arismal yields absolutely no results is his cross-referenced, indexed search.

Ryden discusses the matter brought up by Niall and then considers the necessary parameters of his next project.

(Six successful Electrical Engineering rolls will enable you to dissect, reassemble, and then draw up a schematic for a duplicate of your VR suit.)
Component list (best available prices on Grymdin):
  • Military-Grade VR Filter: 750,000 credits
  • VR Null Gravity Rig: 20,000 credits
  • Helmet with full sensor suite and polarized visor: 15,000 credits
  • Hacking Computer: 400,000 credits
  • Light armor body suit: 5,000 credits
  • Assorted components necessary for systems integration: 5,000 credits

As Niall's searches run, he listens intently to Ryden's retelling of how Zed entered the picture. "Maybe we should do what they fear. Share our jump tech with the FAR. In exchange for protection... maybe a nice little planet on the other side of their quadrant." He suggests, idly. Not that I'm all that keen to depend on frakking aliens for help.

As his search finalizes, he regards the output with a mixture of disdain and relief. Nothing useful here - nothing poisonous to Nithians that Arismal are immune to - aat least as far as my very limited knowledge would indicate. Who knew that NIthians and Arismal were so similar? All those old science fiction vids and books used the old trope of invading aliens getting sick from bacteria native to Arismal... But we're more alike than the authors had envisioned. He sighs. Well... it's just as well I didn't find a biological magic bullet. I don't want to go down in the annals of history as a genocidal war criminal... even if they ARE only aliens. He packages up the search results, and adds it to their intel on Nithians. Maybe it can't be used for what I intended... but maybe someone smarter than me can find a use for it anyway.

Niall nods, and sets aside his datapad, and pulls out his toolkit. "Can do. Let me have a look at that thing."

He will open up the suit, and diagram out all of it's various components as methodically as possible, not touching his tools unless absolutely necessary to get a look at components layered under other components, referencing his datapad's reference library to double-check his work.

Conditions:
Local Time: Day 48, 0000

Ryden and Niall get to work on reverse engineering the design schematics of Ryden's suit. They each have multiple trip-ups which then require correcting their errors, walking the process back a few steps, analyzing how the mistake was made, etc. It's a lengthy process which finds them looking up at each other with smiles on their haggard, tired, ecstatic faces over the light of the screen with the fully functional (in theory, at least) design schematics for a back-up VR suit. It's only upon seeing each other's condition that they reference the nearest chronometer. They were at it for around two and a half hours.

(Upgrade the schematic project to completed in your tinkerer post.)

GM NOTES:
There is one GM and one AGM. You will find that almost all location threads are GENERALIZED districts. Skills that aid in the navigation and exploitation of urban areas and social settings will be of benefit to those getting around Grymdin. Indicate clearly what you're looking for in a generalized area, post whatever skills might aid such a search, and let the A/GMs be creative.

Regarding undescribed threads: When a player indicates he's going to X location, I'll do my best to get the write-up for X written ASAP, then communicate such in the OOC chat.

"Wow, I was not expecting quite that level of complexity. The way the null grav generator interacts, I really hadn't thought of it like that. It makes sense, but that's just not what I had foreseen. I'm damn glad we've got the schematic done. We'll have to build a few. I'd love to take one back to data processing, and if I could manage it, give one to a certain lady friend of mine." He grins. I think Miwa would like some aspects of it here. Not this shithole, but some aspects. "We'll have to see if that's even possible. Wish we could hear from the guys about how it's going. Plenty of member races do their own ops, especially clandestine ops like ours. And we could do well by getting somewhere safe and getting our tech base back up and running before we wear it away like we are."

Niall nods as they work, considering this new information. I'm not happy at the thought of relying on aliens, but... as long as we are prepared for the inevitable treachery, we may at least be able to leverage them against each other.

"Yeah... I gotta say I understand their reluctance to share our tech. It could be a game-changer if deployed on a vast scale, and sharing it with anyone increases the chances that it'll fall into brushhead hands and negate our only technological advantage." He smiles. "But... I'm not perfect. I'd do it happily, just out of spite. Just because that's what they were afraid of."

Niall sits back in satisfaction as they complete the schematic. He smiles.

Niall nods at Ryden. "I was pleasantly suprised at the way in which A/G control interface was routed through the VI processor, but had manual redundancy. That was fairly ingenious." He glances proudly at the schematic they've completed.

"Now that we have a schematic, we can forward it to fleet and maybe they can start production on some additional suits. Or..." He picks up the datapad, perusing the schematics. "If you have any ideas for improvements... we can try to incorporate those. For example - there might be a way to more efficiently cool the processor for better performance. This design accounts for body heat and the processor's own heat output... but it's variability in accounting for environmental heat might be improved." Niall examines the suit's schematics to identify potential areas for improvement.

You'd enter the new design parameters, and test the theoretical performance against variables you input, so you can test the design theory before building a prototype. Those were cool. Saved a lot of money and time by modelling prototypes virtually instead of building each frakking one. Does R&D have something like that, do you think? If they do I mihgt like to get my hands on a copy - and..." he eyes his datapad ruefully, "A processor with the chops to run the thing."

He chuckles. "And while I'm dreaming, a holographic design interface."

Ryden nods. "Then we need to build you one of these. I can do things like that in virtual space. All day long actually. I can do a lot more besides, but that is one thing. I could construct an environment that would duplicate that effect I think. It'd take time, but it could be done. Then you could download the output. I just wish we had some of those nano forges I've heard rumor about. It's like 3-d printing on a molecular level. Pure theory, but the presentations I saw were promising. Granted that's been the better part of a decade ago. but who knows."

Niall raises his eyebrows. "I knew those VR rigs were versatile, but I didn't know they could be used like that. That's pretty cool." He thinks for a moment, then chuckles, adding "You know, between you, Gillina, and I, we could pretty much start our own R&D unit. You do software, I do hardware, and Jill does engineering."

He smiles. "We should start our own business. Come up with a product, design it and take it to production and sales, then funnel the proceeds to the fleet."

Ryden chuckles at that. "Be marginally safer at least." Then he outright grins. "Very marginally." 'Of course assholes like Zed will never let that be an option.' He shakes his head to clear it. He taps on his wristcomm and using its tiny keyboard still manages to quickly type out a message. 'When all deliveries are in the warehouse, message for meet and directions.' He send this out to the others. He also set its priority low, and of course inserts a spam message over it, this one about next day shipping.

Niall nods. Marginally safer is still safer.

"Frak - I might just do it. Set up a dummy corp for the fleet to use - like an umbrella corp to house a number of branches for various purposes. Make a nice legal entity for fleet business."

Niall thinks. I mean, it wouldn't be hard - file incorporation papers, list it as a holding corp so we could bring in any number of more specific business holdings under it's management. Niall pulls over his datapad, interested in the idea. He logs into the Grymdin net, looking for information on filing fees, articles of incorporation, and the associated benefits and obligations thereof.

If I'm going to do this, I want to make sure I do it right - and Grymdin might be the best place to incorporate, if it's laws are set up to benefit businesses.

Niall is pretty shocked to discover that though the framework of incorporation is pretty much the same on Grymdin as it was on Arismal, there are very few liability protections. In short, there is no "corporate veil" which protects all those individuals within the business. He's less shocked to discover that filing the creation of any such legal entity can be done via each of the DROs (who disseminate this information widely), and for only a small processing fee of 100 credits.

Niall sits back and reviews his findings. Well... that figures. When you have DROs, you let them offer you the liability protections. If we stay in good graces with our DRO here, maybe I'll set one up here. But it won't do much to help us off Grymdin. I should look at the laws FAR has to offer in terms of incorporation.

He slides his datapad to the side. But that's not something I can do from here without F.I.N. access, I think.

"Well... that was an interesting thought experiment, anyway. I'll forward the info on to the fleet when we get back, but I dunno if they'll go for setting up a corporation here as the ones on Grymdin don't have the sort of structure that we're used to, where you can use the corp's legal entity as a shield. They just depend on DRO's for everything."

If we were the mercs we pretend to be, we'd be more interested in setting up our own DRO.

With a smirk, he grabs his datapad. May as well add a digital footprint, in case anyone looks.

He begins researching the formation of a DRO, and the costs, benefits, and obligations thereof. If nothing else, we can set one up exclusively for Arismal clients in the future.

They just depend on DRO's for everything." He then begins researching the formation of a DRO, and the costs, benefits, and obligations thereof. Pretty quickly he's underwhelmed. There's no restriction on setting up any kind of legitimate business whatsoever on Grymdin. There's a history of competitive firms on Grymdin, these three are merely the longest standing, and the current incarnations of the dominant actors in this market as they provide the most comprehensive services, have an established tracked record, and all have reciprocity agreements with one another--this is where Niall begins to see the potential barrier to entry into this market. New firms have a very steep hill to climb before any of the three major DROs will engage in such an agreement, and such an agreement is absolutely vital for the maintenance of property rights and the economic stability and social order which are consequences of such.

Niall sets his datapad down, and rubs his eyes. These three DRO's have a joint monopoly... they won't deal with a newcomer unless they've proven themselves, which is practically impossible to do without the reciprocity agreements they won't give you. He shakes his head and chuckles. We don't have the time or resources to pull off that kind of coup. Or any need.

He looks at his datapad in disgust. Feeling antsy, he stands, stretches, and paces a bit. I wonder how the others are doing... that morgue run should be cut-and-dried. How hard can it be to retrieve a corpse? He looks around the room and tries desperately to forget that he's on an alien station, surrounded by aliens who probably want to kill him.

He sighs, then pulls his datapad over. One last search, to kill time until they get back. He looks up at Ryden. "I wonder if any Arismal artifacts have made it onto Grymdin..."

Niall begins a search, first attempting to identify any other "endangered" or "extinct" alien races like the Arismal.

If successful in identifying any other than the Arismal, Niall will group them together into a search, looking for artifacts of their homeworlds - artistic works, manufactured goods, compendia of knowledge, business assets, or any biological or botanical species, samples, or by-products - Which are available for sale, looking particularly for any special deals. Any that he finds he will compile into a report, and save on his datapad to return to the fleet.

Research ☞ 105% 1d100 = 74 (SUCCESS)

Goal number one here on this station is to get food for the fleet. Maybe if I can do that, AND recover something we'd thought lost, morale will improve.

As Niall finishes up his last bit of research, Ryden comes over and physically removes it from his hands. He then types on it faster than Niall has see in a while. He hands it back with the tablet on the loading screen of an adventure game involving a pair of space cops patrolling the beat of their patrol path in the Omega Quadrant of Prime Telurian Space Station. It's an online served game from Arismal that was among the first games ever sold on the interstellar market. It had been among the first games Ryden had tracked down, and aide from a few updates, it was still the same game. "Shut up and strap in, Partner." He grins. "As someone who's brain doesn't shut down, de-stress some or you'll end up a wreck. This is actually an older Arismal video game called The Telurian Saga. The developers licensed it to TGE back when we hit the galactic stage. This is the oldest version I could find, so it's also the closest to the original. I have the original back home, but it's nice to be able to play it with multi-player support. One nice thing, the officers are still Arismal. In later versions they are some close humanoid but without our vision or powers. Make sure you roll for your powers, third tab on your character sheet. Oh and customize your avatar and lets get to saving the galaxy Officer!" He grins and begins doing that himself.

(Think a space RPG kinda like a cross between a MMO and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, but with a pair of cops)
