The Ceiling Club

High above the rough streets and dangerous alleyways of N'Dane is a posh palace of intrigue. Here people with money and access broker deals, embrace their vices, place bets, and generally mix business with pleasure. The Ceiling Club's owners and proprietors have a strictly enforced "no weapons but ours" policy which they enforce scrupulously. Violators are banned, and egregious violations have been known to be paid for with a very long, but very quick descent to the streets far below.

Local Time: Day 49, 2000

The entrance into the Ceiling Club is policed by two TGE security 'bots, each armed with a heavy stunner. Rosseyn, Niall, and Ryden approach without hesitation. They are unarmed and dressed to impress. The robots scan them with devices integrated into their forearms nevertheless. The pair of robots say in unison in their heavily synthesized voices, "You are clear to enter. Enjoy your time in The Ceiling Club."
Image

Entering the club, they are immediately awestruck by just how posh the place is. They are very nearly under-dressed for the setting. The atmospheric and ambient lighting is subdued, tasteful, and elegant, while the furnishings promote a certain vigor to the aesthetics of the interior. 2D screens of varying sizes are practically everywhere. Some screens display clips from past fights as running commentary describes the action, others are highlighting certain fighters with commentary and stats being discussed and displayed through infographics, and one screen even details the newly released details of the Razorcrush Arena itself. There's seating at the bar with stepped seating and dining areas radiating outward from the bar.

Image

Alton Lang can be seen two tiers up from the bar across from the door. He is sitting alone. A large, curvy cocktail glass filled with some blue concoction rests on the table before him.

Niall enters the Cieling Club at Ryden and Rosseyn's side. He looks around the club as they enter, a sly confidence he'd thought lost to him returning almost involuntarily. He almost felt like he was at home.

This place looks like the Rygen Pulsar did when Varat KelDoran owned it... Those were some pretty jumping three weeks. Shame it closed down. As he absorbs the club's atmosphere, he tries to ignore the varied species of patrons, and instead looks at their manner, their clothes.

A place like this usually has three types of people. You'll have your energetic young folks, drinking, dancing, and having a good time without regard for propriety. You have your slightly older players - pretending to be aloof, but they're here for what they're here for, and you can see the hunger in their eyes. Whether they're here to find a one-night partner or to rub elbows or be seen... it's all the same. They sail through the crowd like sharks. And you have the dealmakers. They come in, take up space, and let the world come to them. No need to go out and pick up women - they come to them. No need to find business deals. They come to them. By setting us up to meet here, Alton Lang's telling us he's the third type, and we're the second.

Niall chuckles. I've been all three, from one time to another. But I know there's a fourth type, as well. The "too good for this place" type. You come, be seen, do the minimum you're expected to do, and leave. Because you're the person the club promoter is trying to attract, the person who brings cachet, prestige, with them. They invite you when they hope your cachet will rub off on the establishment, and they offer you VIP treatment and stuff. I've been that too, back on Arismal. I don't have that cachet here... but I know what it looks like. And that's how anyone who knows any Kassan will be expecting them to act.

Niall heads up to the private tables, and tries to spot Lang, and if he sees him, he'll nudge Ryden and Rosseyn, and nod in Lang's direction.

If he can subtly catch the eye of a waitress, he holds up three fingers with a charming smirk, then points to Lang's table, but doesn't stop to chat or order drinks. She'll come to us.

As they reach Lang's table, Niall smirks at him. "Nice place," he says, sarcastically. He gestures at the seats. "May we?"

Charm/Impress ☞ 20% (EP crit success)

Niall sizes the man up, thinking about how he's dressed, what he's got in front of him, his body language.

Intelligence ☞ 70% 1d100 = 91 (FAIL)
Intelligence ☞ 70% 1d100 = 92 (FAIL)
Intelligence ☞ 70% 1d100 = 90 (FAIL)
Business and Finance ☞ 70% 1d100 = 28 (SUCCEED)

He's definitely sending us a distinct message with this place, and that's 'I don't need your business'. Meeting in a noisy place means 'I don't care about your details', meeting with alcohol can mean 'I'm not going to remember you.' So we need to keep the meeting light, he wants a sketch of what we need - not a dissertation, and some sense of what we can pay. Because we're an unknown quantity. Beyond that... details can be hashed out electronically.

Niall waits for Lang's nod, and sits. He extends his hand. "Vanko Borias."

Main thing is, we need to leave him with a positive impression of us. We mean business, and we have the means to pay.

Passing through the TGE bots, Rosseyn tries not to give any physical indications that he can feel them scanning him. Upon entry, he takes a look around. Swanky location. Money begets luxury I suppose. Could do without most of it. But a nice drink will be a welcomed change to whatever they were serving before we left. Remember, Kassan and snobby. Watching Niall for some social clues, Rosseyn walks into the club with a look of disapproval on his face. Turning to Ryden, he asks "Couldn't they have spruced the place up before we got here?"

When Niall points out Lang to the group, Rosseyn will walk over to his table and, at Niall's introduction, take a seat. "Varren. Aldric Varren. This Ceiling Club has terrible service. The woman didn't even offer to take my coat. Do they at least have drinkable cocktails here?" He looks at Lang and asks "What are you imbibing there?" If he sees a waiter, he'll snap them over to the table and request a shellfish and mushroom stew with provincial herbs. "See to it that your chef uses the freshest ingredients available."

On the way there, Ryden downloads some texts on mechanical and physical engineering, weapon development, and safe handling of explosives. He would have to get some of the others to give him pointers, but with his recall and speed reading, he'd be on his way to true mastery in no time.

Ryden breezes in with the others, and while he looks cool and collected, he's honestly impressed. Of course he manages to turn that impressed feeling into someone appraising the place for a buyout rather than a fanboy wondering if he could get his girlfriend to come here. 'It would be one hell of a night. Expensive, but who cares. Decent music too.' He runs a Music ID program in the background, compiling a list of the music played.* He shrugs at Nova's affected air. "Not like they knew you were coming." Of course the simple arrogance that they would have done more had they known was a subtle Kassan dig. The fact that it was subtle and had the appearance of giving them a break was brilliant.

He had to hand it to both of the silver spoons though. He might have the more technical knowledge, but both of them had a simple presence in this setting he was having to turn up his acting to simply keep up with. No one would mistake him for anything but Kassan, but in the end he is still a geek, and only so much acting skill can cover that. So instead he decides to take a more honest tactic. He assumes the mein of someone who views everything as an investment opporunity.

At the table, he nods to Lang, and even shakes his hand if the man offers, but is otherwise content with introducing himself. "Mister Alton. Samil Breen, we communicated electronically. You have met my business associates. Good to meet you in person." He will order from either the waiter or the electronic menu, whichever is appropriate for the venue based on his research.

Ryden nods to Lang. "Mister Alton. Samil Breen, we communicated electronically. You have met my business associates. Good to meet you in person." His research en route to the club came up largely inconclusive. Opinions regarding favored drinks were highly varied by reviewers, and there's no custom regarding ordering noted or mentioned. Security, by all appearances, is tight, if not impenetrable, but the club is filled with countless people engaged in small talk, flirtations, watching commentary on pre-match shows, and enjoying meals and discussions of a variety of natures. Doubtless, by the relatively posh dress of most people present, there were likely business deals being discussed as well.

Niall smirks at Lang. "Nice place," he says, sarcastically. He gestures at the seats. "May we?"

"Varren. Aldric Varren. This Ceiling Club has terrible service. The woman didn't even offer to take my coat. Do they at least have drinkable cocktails here?" Rosseyn introduces himself, queries Lang as to his drink, then flags down a waiter to order some refreshments. Rosseyn's senses are keenly aware that there are literally dozens of hidden video recording and monitoring devices monitoring every square inch of the club's floor.

Niall waits for Lang's nod, and sits. He extends his hand. "Vanko Borias." He sizes the man up. He appears completely at ease, and every bit the man he seems to convey: a man of business in an informal setting getting to know some potential clients. An approach and situation well within Niall's own wheelhouse of experience.

Lang waves all three to sit down, and leans across the table to shake each of their hands in turn. "Please, be seated, gentlemen, but hold your questions a second, the match is just starting!" His eyes affix to a holographic projector just over their shoulders. "It's a Klikitan Iceberg. Not too sweet, not too strong," he answers Rosseyn's question. His eyes never leave the projected image behind them. Over his shoulder the three of them see the holo-display split into ten different camera perspectives. On two of them are Halko and Cairo. Each is alone. "I always pay special attention to the opening minutes of a match, as that's when the real mettle and tactical knowledge of a combatant is shown." Halko is seen to be stabbed and slashed by thrusting and retracting spears which emerge from the walls to either side of him without warning and with stunning alacrity as he makes his way through the first passage in which he finds himself. In the holo-image next to Halko's, the Danaus vanishes from sight. "That sly bastard!" Lang cries. "I'd bet he's going to stay fresh and lie in wait for the others to beleaguer themselves fighting each other." The panel beside the Danaus shows the Atorian turn into a blur of motion as she races ahead at incredible speed, her arms slashing to either side of her to ward off attacks by vines and spears alike move with uncanny accuracy and lightning speed. The next panel shows Cairo conjure a force disc, hop on it, wrap himself in shadow, and begin to fly forward hugging close to the ground. As he picks up speed, the shadow clearly marks his location as the seeming blot of ink suspended in mid-air contrasts immensely with the surroundings. "Ahh, that one, the big free agent, he shows a great deal of power, but his tactical grasp of his powers seems limited. Powerful or not, this could go badly for him." Cairo's beginning to pick up speed and the walls seem to come alive with aggressive vines when Alton raises his glass in what appears to be a custom of collective agreement and social bonding. "To the best combatant may the victory go!"

He turns back to the screens, watching the combatants, gauging their skills and abilities against what the team already knows.

Niall slides into his seat and half turns his body to face the screen, a smirk playing on his lips - itself an old habit from his days of carousing the various nightclubs and hotspots back home. He speaks over his shoulder to his companions. "Did either of you bother to wager on this? Whom do you like?"

Lang draws his attention away from the opening moments of the match to look squarely at Niall. "No, I didn't place a bet. Gambling on such sports is a fool's errand without extensive and detailed research, and I frankly don't have the time for such." He shrugs. "The Hippodrome's tourneys are merely a hobby of which I am a passionately interested fan. My gut tells me that Giga's got the edge in this match. She's ferocious, skilled, and smart. Just look at that brash newcomer gunning for her. I bet she'll not be stupid enough to go toe-to-toe with him. No, she tends to select her targets carefully, take opportunistic strikes, and engage in hit and run tactics until the field has been narrowed down some, and--exclaims something that doesn't translate well as he stands bolt-upright with a start--did you see the uppercut that newcomer landed on Euger?!"

A server swiftly arrives just behind and to one side of Niall who orders a duplicate of Lang's cocktail. Ryden follows suit, ordering a drink as well. Lang shakes his head as he sits back down.

Lang wrote:"I always pay special attention to the opening minutes of a match, as that's when the real mettle and tactical knowledge of a combatant is shown."

Niall smirks at Lang. "Tactical knowledge? Do you have military experience, Mr. Lang?"

Lang looks momentarily puzzled. "Me? Oh, no. I'm a businessman, always have been. I can admire the courage and skill of such people, but I don't have the skills, aptitude, or inclination for such. My battlefield is the boardroom. My sword is the stylus. My victory is the profitable exchange." Niall turns back to the screens, watching the combatants, gauging their skills and abilities against what the team already knows. Budu Sh'Yeenen has indeed exhibited advanced hand to hand combat training, but on-screen Niall suddenly sees him rocket at incredible speed like a living projectile through the narrow passageways--something not detailed in the articles they'd read.

Lang wrote:"Ahh, that one, the big free agent, he shows a great deal of power, but his tactical grasp of his powers seems limited. Powerful or not, this could go badly for him."

Ryden nods. "Seems confident, perhaps overconfident," he says of the one he knows to be Fang. "The vines seem to like him though." Ryden continues commenting on the match as it happens, neither favoring nor distancing himself from discussing Halko and Cairo.

Niall and Ryden raise their glasses. Niall follows Lang's toast with his own. "May our risks be small, and our payoff large." He takes a sip of his beverage, makes a disdainful face, and sets the glass down without comment. Lang smiles broadly. "Ah, and we come to the business at hand." Lang switches his gaze to Ryden. "Mr. Breen, the 'largish quantities' of which you spoke...can you give me an estimate in calories of how much you're looking to purchase? Do you have any logistical concerns? What problem are you looking to solve? The more information you provide, the better I can put my knowledge to use in solving your problem?"

Niall perks up. Turning to Ryden, he says, "What did the colonists request? Something like 2 million kilocalories? But I suspect they can make do with half that, initially. But time is a factor for them."

Niall awaits a response from Ryden. Ryden's been his main point of contact - don't want to look like I'm taking over the deal from him... "cutting him off at the knees", as father would say.

As he politely waits, his mind rockets, trying to discern answers to the questions posed to Ryden. I knew we should've done a pre-meeting briefing... What'd we decide? Colony is located at a... proprietary installation, the location is a trade secret. So need to establish a drop point somewhere to converge with 'company cargo haulers'. We need to know the volume of cargo to expect, and the cost, and if possible get a variety of food flavors and textures while providing quality nutrition... surely Ryden's worked this all out as well. He looks to Ryden, affecting a dispassionate air.

He chuckles. "Colonists can be so picky."

Thinking back on their conversation about this before they left, Ryden answers. "Two million k-cals is ideal, yes. As for logistical concerns, we'd like to keep our colony locations a trade secret, so we'd meet in a neutral location, ideally away from Grymden if only to maintain confidentiality. We're flexible on the exact location, however. Also, we'd use standard agri-product shipping containers, which can be returned as part of a standard recurring deal. But as I said in my communique, I am merely the point man and do the analysis. My companions will do the majority of the negotiations." There is no sign of deference, merely a division of labor that is common in the business world and beyond. Specialists handle their specialty.

But I can appreciate the thrill of physical exertion and challenge when need be." Rosseyn gives one more look at the screens and then his attention is set on the events at the table.

Niall and Ryden open up the negotiations and Rosseyn inserts himself as the money man. "Those are the details. Tell us Mister Lang, what would your estimate for something of this caliber be, pricewise?" He keeps his eyes on Lang's face to show he means business as well as to look for any signs that might help in the negotiations.

Ryden wrote:Thinking back on their conversation about this before they left, Ryden answers. My companions will do the majority of the negotiations."

Mr. Lang nods casually, clearly taking such provisos in stride as only mildly outside the norm. "Those stipulations shouldn't be a problem. Nystum might be an ideal system for such a hand-off. It's not far from Grymdin's current position, so that would minimize travel expenses, and the Lupis are a very business-friendly people, and their home system is always fairly busy with interstellar commerce."

"Well, that depends on the quality of the product requested as well as the diversity of the foodstuffs themselves. A diet of Phorillan pudding and Shissan spade-leaf, while nutritious and delicious for those who like spicy foods, would certainly run into the tens of millions of credits. Not all calories are equally priced, of course. But I gather you're in the market for rather standard fare so far as Kassans are concerned. Correct me if I'm wrong, of course, but I'm inferring that you're more concerned about the colonists being able to survive than enjoy a culinary variety of flavors. Without getting into specifics, I'd ballpark a low-cost, high-nutrition menu of two million kilo-calories at around a million credits, not factoring in travel, administration, or other secondary costs. What are your time constraints regarding such an order?"

Niall listens to Lang's suggestion of delivering to the Nystum system. I'd prefer an uninhabited system, but that'd make refueling an issue, I suppose. He tries to remember where Nystum is in relation to the fleet's current location, and whether it holds any attributes of tactical interest.

Intelligence ☞ 70% 1d100 = 82 (information on Nystum system - tactical risks & benefits. FAIL)
Intelligence ☞ 70% 1d100 = 26 (information on Nystum system - tactical risks & benefits. SUCCESS)
Lore: Alien ☞ 65% 1d100 = 15 (Lupis - SUCCESS)
Intelligence ☞ 70% 1d100 = 4 (Information on Lupis - military, alliances, etc. How well do the Lupis people protect commerce in their system? SUCCESS)

Nystum isn't far from here, and it's awfully close to the Brushhead Empire. Though, not as close as we currently are. Still... if the brushheads get wind we're using it as a resupply location, they could hit us fairly easily there...

Niall attempts to remember information about other close systems, to see if they would be preferable for a drop.

Intelligence ☞ 70% 1d100 = 37 (information on Salva system SUCCESS)
Intelligence ☞ 70% 1d100 = 40 (information on Rol system SUCCESS)
Intelligence ☞ 70% 1d100 = 91 (any available information on Elecia system FAIL)
Intelligence ☞ 70% 1d100 = 69 (any available information on Elecia system SUCCESS?)

OOC Comments
I am aware that Elecia is outside of the Arismal's spectrum of knowledge concerning the quadrant. It was jsut an attempt, really, to see if he'd heard anything about the system.

Lang wrote:"What are your time constraints regarding such an order?"

Niall smiles at the man. Are you familiar with the old business catchphrase of 'Fast, Good, Cheap. Pick any two'? We understand that these things drive cost up, but we need to supply our colonists in a rather short time frame. We are prepared to sacrifice on quality and quantity - just this once - in order to supply them quickly. Future orders will have a better turnaround window. Our minimum that we need right now is one million kcals, as soon as it can be loaded onto ships." He smirks and shakes his head sadly. He shrugs, "Colonists. You hire these 'rough-and-ready adventurers' but the moment food gets tight they start threatening to go home."

He looks to Rosseyn. "Hopefully we can hammer out an arrangement that leaves all parties only a little disappointed. That's the nature of negotiation, no?"

Even if we have to negotiate down to half-a-million kcals, we can do that... it'd just mean we have to resupply in... what? about 15 days? but that's better than nothing. He looks idly at the screens showing the events in the Hippodrome. May Inanna be with you both.

Frakking service fees. We've barely got above a 'cool million'. Rosseyn maintains eye contact and asks "Can you give me an estimate of these secondary costs and the like? Five percent? Ten percent? Fifteen? I respect precision in business."

If Lang is able to give him a quote for two million kilo-calories of foodstuffs that is equal to or less than 1,130,000 credits, Rosseyn will respond with "This is acceptable. Glad we could do business."
If Lang is not able to give him above quote or gives him a quote above his desired price, Rosseyn says "Pricy for our first transaction. Let's cut it back to one million kilo-cals and hopefully cut this price in half. We just need to get this started, and the rest of the orders, both size and cost will be worked out in the future."

Where is this waiter?

Rosseyn waves a server over and says "If I must wait this long for my food, I would like a drink. What he's having will do." He then turns away from them and back to the more important people at the table.

Ryden nods and doesn't hesitate when their prospective business partner mentions Nystum. "The Lupis certainly do like their system secure, and won't look kindly on any foolishness, from any actor. That is acceptable." Of course there is the matter that someone on the Lupis convoy probably sold their fleet's location to the Atorians, but they wouldn't want that sort of thing in their home system. And we don't plan to give them the option of tracking us. We've got Nova to check for tracking beacons and the like. And we can use Albatrosses to ferry the food back to the fleet. Bring the Cygnus to the system, with Albatrosses already on board, and then meet up with the buyer, and have the albatrosses take the freight away as the larger ship goes to a rendezvous spot where it can be picked up by a larger ship on a microjump.

Niall
Niall recalls from the information databases that Salva is a planet of oceans with a high water density and a strong gravitational pull. The salvelinus live in large cities built on the bottom of shallow oceans two to three hundred feet below the waves. They are short, powerfully built, aquatic humanoids covered with blue scales that are often decorated by bright red, pink, yellow, or orange spots on their backs. Niall recalls that Rol is the home world of the Perola, a people who supposedly represent the ultimate in racial harmony. Interstellar propaganda proclaims that they have attained a highly advanced state of cooperation and peace; that there are no wars among the Perola and each of them treats every other person and race as an equal; that the Perola have no secret potion or magic solution for their enlightened state. Their state propaganda arm advertises that it took many millennia of hard work, understanding, tolerance and awareness to attain their present state of peace and wisdom. Rumors about divine influence and powerful alien intelligences are common among those alien to their world. Niall also notes that one of the combatants is supposedly an Elecian (not that he was seen for more than a second on-screen), but other than that detail draws a complete blank on the system of Elecia and its people.

Niall smiles at the man. "Are you familiar with the old business catchphrase of 'Fast, Good, Cheap. Pick any two'? We understand that these things drive cost up, but we need to supply our colonists in a rather short time frame. We are prepared to sacrifice on quality and quantity - just this once - in order to supply them quickly. Future orders will have a better turnaround window. Our minimum that we need right now is one million kcals, as soon as it can be loaded onto ships. Colonists. You hire these 'rough-and-ready adventurers' but the moment food gets tight they start threatening to go home." Lang nods in response to this and takes a note on a digital pad to one side of his drink.

Niall looks to Rosseyn. "Hopefully we can hammer out an arrangement that leaves all parties only a little disappointed. That's the nature of negotiation, no?"

Ryden
Ryden observes, "The Lupis certainly do like their system secure, and won't look kindly on any foolishness, from any actor. That is acceptable."

Lang smiles and nods. "Their commercial interests are experienced and reliable actors, and very conservative in their dealings. No fuss. No unexpected variables. Everything pinned down and written in triplicate. Even after years of consistent performance, they only relax their safeguards enough to decrease waste and inefficiency at a marginal level. They highly value stability and security over profit."

Rosseyn
Rosseyn locks eyes with Lang. "Can you give me an estimate of these secondary costs and the like? Five percent? Ten percent? Fifteen? I respect precision in business."

Lang arches an eyebrow. "I prefer precision as well, but neither of us has precise figures on hand. We're both operating in good faith here with the best information we have available. I intimate you have a strict budget, and want to maximize the product you receive. That's entirely understandable. We're all feeling out what those variables are based on your needs. If you let me know what you can spend, I will know what the budgetary constraints are and deliver as best I can within those constraints."

Rosseyn waves a server over and says "If I must wait this long for my food, I would like a drink. What he's having will do." The server, a squat and unattractive, if well-groomed, alien of indeterminate sex, scampers away to fulfill Rosseyn's request.

Niall considers for a moment. In the absence of a better system, Nystum is probably fine. Their interest in security suits our needs, and the other nearby systems don't have such emphasis that I'm aware of. He thinks distastefully about the Perola for a moment, remembering their self-proclaimed superiority and wondering how much of that is a put-on. Then he thinks of the Salvelinus, and shudders. Way too alien, he thinks.

Niall nods to Ryden and Nova. "As far as I know, Nystum should suit our purposes for now." He shrugs.

Lang wrote:"I prefer precision as well, but neither of us has precise figures on hand. We're both operating in good faith here with the best information we have available. Niall tries to evaluate the situation as it stands, using his knowledge of business and what he's learned of Lang.

Niall looks at Lang, and then to Nova. Lang knows what this is... he knows we're feeling him out for future business. That's what he's doing to us as well. If we just give him our ceiling on what we can spend, I don't think he'll try to screw us - not now that he knows this might be a recurring deal. I mean... he might. He has a bit of a shady past, but... he hasn't given any indication that he's looking for a bribe or for us to sweeten the deal at all...

Niall sips his drink, and shrugs at Nova. "It looks to me like Maga-Pastova is poised to fill our needs for now."

Mr. Lang nods in reply, clearly comfortable with whatever degree of ambiguity exists in the details. Ryden looks to Rosseyn. "Do I read the situation right?"

Niall sips his drink, and shrugs at Nova. "It looks to me like Maga-Pastova is poised to fill our needs for now."

Rosseyn finally concludes the negotiation. "Yes, yes, this will do fine barring some sort of complete misunderstanding. Are the bartenders Korvassian Wolkanbeast? I suppose this sporting event will have to occupy my time until such a time as a proper beverage or meal is placed in front of me. Mr. Lang, I take it business has been profitable for you?"

Lang smiles benignly. "The last few years have seen solid, steady growth. Things were more...volatile before Grymdin's most recent transit. The new location and Grymdin's internal politics have greatly stabilized things, and practically everyone on Grymdin has benefited from the stability and growth. Not all have benefited equally, of course, but the rising tide has indeed lifted all boats." Lang waves over a scantily-clad humanoid server, has her lean down, and says something [inaudible over the ambient noise] in her ear. Moments later, refreshments and food are served, and Lang dismisses the trio of attractive females that serve them. Moments later, Lang nearly jumps out of his seat when the screens go nearly totally white. "What the blazes is this nonsense?" Then the announcer gives voice to Lang's concern and it becomes evident that someone in House Mioro has done something magical to obscure visibility within the entire arena...and that the broadcasters are none too pleased with the latest development.

What are your intentions?

Niall nods. "Yes, it seems Grymdin's... unique political situation would provide fertile ground for business. No pun intended." Yes... having people pay de facto protection money for the privilege of doing business here, and being able to negotiate away actions that would be criminal elsewhere definitely WOULD benefit business. Or certain kinds of businesses, at any rate.

As Lang whispers to the server and she finally brings food, Niall cannot surpress a chuckle. Well played. Nice little show of power there, Lang.

Lang wrote: "What the blazes is this nonsense?"

Niall turns his attention to the screen. Magical obscurement? Interesting... Thinking back to their research, he thinks, That'd be Phallou, the Danaus, House Mioro... His partner Budu already went down, so Phallou is on his own. We were right to consider recruiting him if his magic is enough to confound the arena's A/V capabilities. We should reach out after the combat... if we win, maybe we can offer a share of the purse? He passes a brief knowing look at Ryden.

Niall chuckles and adds, "I don't think the Hippodrome is too pleased about that... I sense a change in the rules. And a suspension, perhaps, for the offender."

"If all benefited equally, how would anybody get rich?" Rosseyn offers a dry smile to punctuate his 'joke'. As the food arrives, Rosseyn eyes the waitstaff that bring it over. Space babes. I can never get enough. Looking to his food and drink, he nods to Lang. "This will do nicely. Glad to see that you have some pull here." Making sure to use the proper utensils, Rosseyn takes his first bite of his food. Oh that is frakking delicious. Ryden also enjoys the dinner and the view, though he immediately dismisses them as anything else. The food he enjoys, but he says nothing about anything else, letting Nova and Niall take whatever lead they may. When the screen goes white, Ryden immediately searches the feeds for anyone showing alternate views and for comments about what people think the organizers will do. He sorts through the data, looking for patterns. When he has something intelligent to say, he'll say it.

Research 1d100 = 33/108% to see how they've handled this in the past. PASS
Intelligence 1d100 = 52/69% to see what people think about this and how the organizers will rule. PASS

As the trio of waitresses walks away, one of them turns her head back and shoots a few glances in the direction towards the group, present with Lang, before resuming to her duties. "I’m glad you approve of my choice of generosity. I like it when my clients, or potential ones, are happy. Good for business, you know?" Lang responds seemingly to both Niall and Ryden at the same time. A few moments later when the monitors blackout, Lang seems to respond to the group’s questions. Lang responds as if having an outer monologue with himself, while appearing a little agitated. "No, this can’t be good for anybody. As for the rules, in the end it doesn’t really matter to me. There’s always a winner. Everything else is just semantics, if you’re asking for my opinion." Looking around to see if any of the other monitors had come back on, Land starts to pace back and forth. After a few quick laps, Lang stands for a moment to starch his chin, as a look of contemplation comes across his face.

Appearing from somewhere, as if emerging from the shadows, a decently dressed female steps into view. With, what obviously is her bodyguard even without any of the telltale signs, the pair come to stop a few feet away from Lang. The duo waits patiently, though the female seems like she doesn’t want to be here and is looking for a quick escape. Lang notices the female and walk over to the her, bending down a little and he turns his head to offer his ear. She leans in and whispers a few short sentences. Lang nods in response and the duo leave, just as quietly as they arrived. Shortly after the woman and her bodyguard leave, the screens on the monitors come back on. The whole place was showered with loud cheers of joy and excitement.

Everyone’s attention is now on the screens, even Lang’s. With not knowing where everyone stands, they’re drawn to the monitors like bugs drawn to the light. Suddenly, some of the screens starts to flash colors of light, as a combatant throws a series of punches in to an Elecians protective aura, from one screen, and white and blue from another. Suddenly the place erupts, again, in loud noises. This time not all cheers are that of joy. Seeing a massive brute smash the insectoid in the chest, flinging it against the wall and leaving it in a pile on the floor. Seconds later, more cheers erupt as the brute and Elecian engage into battle. Quieting down a little, as the brute overcomes the bionic combatant.

Looking for their companions, the three can see the other two companion locked in battle. On one screen, they see Cairo get blasted with an assault rifle., immediately followed by a pummeling of punches by the brute. Cairo defends with arms, deflecting each blow but with obvious consequences. While on another screen, Halko is attempting to spit globes of goo at the brute’s feet. The next thing Halko knows is that he is being picked up by his shirt. About to be pummeled by a series of punches from the brute. Having luck in his favor, Halko’s shirt gives way and the brute is left with nothing but a handful of cloth.

In between the rise and fall of all the clamor, Lang has a series of visitors, most likely having side bets with each of them. The last group is a quartet of rugged looking merchants, who are comprised of several different species. Lang and the merchants seem to be good friends, as they embrace one another. Turning back to the Arismals, Lang has a wide smile across his face and raising his hands in an open gesture. " Please, excuse me. I have some clients who need my attention right away. They have come along way and will be expecting a relative quick departure time. Please feel free to enjoy anything here, on my account of course. We can get together later and weed out the finer details. Enjoy your evening gentlemen and again my apologies."

What are your intentions?

Niall waits until the alien is out of earshot, then turns to the others. "I don't think we can reprovision the fleet off Lang's bar tab... do you?" He smirks, and stands. I don't necessarily want to leave while the bout is ongoing, but we've made a show of not caring, and I don't want to break cover...

"We have stuff to get done so we can get off this..." ...alien-infested station... "station and get back to work. Next few things on the agenda, I think, can go pretty quickly." Niall begins walking out of the club, and continues once outside.

"I think we need some sundries for individuals on the fleet - chocolates, lotion, etcetera. And we need some prepaid FIN accounts. Why don't we head back to Souq street and pick up the little things we need, and check back in with uh... Noran and Torren."

"What do you think?"

If there are no objections, Niall will head with the others to Souq Street.

He'll steer for the part of the neighborhood that specializes in gifts, and look for the chocolates and bath items that had been requested. Hopefully, Ryden can find a FIN terminal and get what we need... or do it from the hotel.

If he spots a monitor showing the match in the Bloodsport Hippodrome, he'll stop and see how their team is doing.

I hope I don't need to do another blood transfusion... I think I'm still reeling from the last one.

Rosseyn is sipping his Klikitan Iceberg to wash down his meal when he is hit with a rush of memories. Memories of things that just happened but couldn't have as he has been on Grymdin the whole time. Red. Presence. Ecks. Mechanoids. Rocky. Bob? Mechanoids. Oni craft. Mechanoids. Oh god! I almost died! As the commotion regarding the match takes place, Rosseyn starts in his chair, like a man returning to his body from the Astral Plane. He pats his chest, face, legs, arms. I'm here. We did it. Frakkin' alien robot pieces of filth. When Lang turns his attention back to the team, Rosseyn finds his composure again. "You've been more than generous. Thank you, Mr. Lang. We will contact you shortly."

Once Lang takes his leave, Rosseyn turns to the other two. "I don't like the appearance of those two. Let's finish up our food and get out of this place. Sundries is a great idea, Vanko." Rosseyn finishes his meal and then heads with the other two to Souq Street.

When the three finish up engorging themselves with the accommodations provided by Lang, they quietly excuse themselves. The group makes their way through the busy crowd of the establishment. "I think we need some sundries for individuals on the fleet - chocolates, lotion, etcetera. And we need some prepaid FIN accounts. Why don't we head back to Souq street and pick up the little things we need and check back in with uh... Noran and Torren. What do you think?" Niall syays while turning to his group mates. "I don't like the appearance of those two. Let's finish up our food and get out of this place. Sundries is a great idea, Vanko." Rosseyn adds as his response to Niall. Having decided that they still need to acquire a few items before their departure time. the group heads off to Souq Street in the Soniua Mercantile district.
