Corrigan remembered that conversation every time she closed her eyes. That was the day that she gave up her dreams for what her father wanted for her like a good nobleman's daughter should. She'd been travelling, how he tracked her to Kingsdale she had no idea. Always on the move, earning her way along a day at a time by doing small jobs, it wasn't becoming of what a Runesmith should be doing. That's what they told her anyway. It wasn't appropriate for someone of her station and education to be meandering about in a crazy world. She should be making everyone wealthy. And her ideas! She should be sticking to traditional Nuhr items, not trying to incorporate the thoughts of other cultures into what is tried, true and worked perfectly well.

It was her sense of duty that convinced her to go back. He was right, she really did owe him.

So she'd done as he asked, grunted out Ilyana and Sinead from Captain Donald and played the role of dutiful wife.

She'd not wanted any of it. Donald wasn't horrible to her, he was as good of a man as any really, and she regretted that what she was going to do would hurt him. He wouldn't understand, neither would Ilyana or Sinead. But it was all just a sense of duty. She had fulfilled her obligation to her father but all of this time her life had been nothing more than upholding her end of what she saw as a business arrangement and it wasn't Donald's fault he got caught up in that. She liked him, sure enough, but she didn't love him. What hurt the most was that Ilyana and Sinead were the same. She liked them, and the notion of being a family but she did not love them -- and that hurt -- because what mother didn't love her children? Was she some kind of freak, or maybe her brain was wired wrong?

They'd be okay. She was leaving them with the accumulated wealth of the decade that she had been married to Captain Donald. It was a small fortune. She'd miss them, but she'd fulfilled her obligations to her father.

What a warped way of thinking. I made things even with my father, but what about Ilyana and Sinead? I should feel like I've got obligations to them, too.

Her obligation was to make sure they were safe and would be happy. She knew they would be both. Donald would tell them something happened to her and they'd all just not miss her after awhile.

She would come back and make things right again, but not for a few decades. Donald will have divorced me by then and gotten another woman so I won't be bothered.

Donald didn't love me anyway. He was married to the sea.

That's what she told herself as she took his most loved firearm from his cabin as she left Queenston Harbour.

Thinking that made it easier to justify the theft of a much-treasured and valuable weapon. She made it for him years ago, back when she was younger and still believed she could learn to love him. It was worth a small fortune and by far the best work she had ever done.

Oh, well. I made it and by marrying me our property became combined. So, guess I'm just taking what's mine.

Maybe she'd actually put it to use, the last time Donald shot at anything it was a whale dumb enough to wander up the St. Lawrence.

Anything's better than staying here.

It was pure luck that had her run into a caravan heading to a place called MercTown. They were short a few people and guard leader sold her on escorting it by telling her "Well, it's basically the new Kingsdale."

MercTown. She thought. Starting again. At least I won't be forgebound and bored. I'll find someone here doing something interesting. And maybe someday I'll find someone to tell me why I'm half as messed up as I am and if I'm very, very lucky I'll be able to sleep at night and listen to myself when I justify the things I've done.

1. Her own shop in Merctown where she can hang out and RP with other PCs, meet people, etc.
2. Always love raw materials. Iron, Steel, Bronze, Copper, Silver, Gold.
3. Glittermount magic horse.
4. Weapons that are loud, explosive and/or high calibre.
5. Unique Magical Items: Surprise me! I don't care if it's a magic toaster, if it's cool and unique to Corrigan yes please.
