CONFINED SPACES MAKE FOR CLOSE FRIENDS
The chairs are hard plastic. They seem to be designed to be uncomfortable. Even after a short five minutes, the circulation in Wi-Fi's legs is pinched and she's nodding off like one would in a college art history lecture about the difference between Jacques-Louis David's* early work and his post-French Revolution, and yet still different from his post-revolution imprisonment work. Well, maybe even the chairs aren't that bad.

McGee collects everyone's forms - including the Ultra teens - and hands them to a guard to take to processing. McGee seems affable enough at the moment. "Are any of you authorized to give permission to take the plane to the hangar? Rickles hasn't been able to confirm that with the crew still aboard, but we need to get the plane off the pad so we can close the Airlock."

He listens to Wi-Fi's helpful commentary and requests with seriousness, not discounting anything off hand. "Well, ma'am, I do agree with you're logic there. It's, well, the Warden likes to keep things under tight control here. I think his logic is that if this equipment were made widely available, it would be that much easier to breach our defenses. I can kind of see the point there."

As the spider bots deploy, a door on the other side of the barrier opens. Two guards escort a young teen with several devices affixed to his hands and ankles, and a bulky neck collar. He is a sturdy looking boy, if a little on the short side. Lots of room to grow. But his skin is orange and his hair red, but any internal fire seems to be put out, both emotionally and for his super powers. He is dejected, though his oddly blue eyes still hold defiance and a sense of superiority.

Battletoad remains impassive as their nemesis is trundled in. Future gets a grim look on his face and without looking at McGee asks, "Will we be allowed physical contact with the prisoner?"

What are you doing?

*I was always more partial to the early Impressionists, particularly Manet, and early Realists like Courbet, but he got pretty, to use a japanese term, sukebe in his later years. One of my favorite pieces of Manet is The Fifer For Courbet, I always liked Bonjour Monsieur Courbet, despite some hefty criticism by Courbet's peers.

"Long as my people stay near the plane It safe to move it." she nods, "I'm not sure I have the permission, But if the Ultra's give a hard time let know I said its okay." the mutant answered. and pauses. "They better not start a fight with the guards or something...would hate to go home with less people than I came with." she thinks. as the McGee spoke she listened.

"Point well taken. If you do need anything field tested or help developing anything let me know. I would be happy to help out if the word of an Omega will get him what he needs faster. And maybe we can work together on the development angle." Wi-Fi answers with a nod as she hears Future speak. she was unsure if he testing something, trying to intimidate or just pulling a Batman. any or all would not likely go well for her.

"My guess is no." she answers looking to McGee briefly then back to future. His urge to be more direct was understandable. Wi-Fi wanted to tell him there were better ways..but it would sound preachy. and she knew how she'd have answered if someone, even Brute gave her a speech like that at Futures age. "Besides I doubt it would do any good. but their are other ways to get to him. she thought. the kid had had defiant look and sense of superiority. His bosses probably threaten him a lot already. Here is where she was hoping to see what spider could do as the good cop.

WI-FI'S SPECIAL STUFF
Future looks at Wi-Fi from beneath his hood, one glowing red eye visible. She can feel his stare, but can't see his face. McGee is still looking at the prisoner.

"I suppose we should start. Wi-Fi, since you're in charge, how do you want to lead the questioning?" Battletoad asks. Future stops glaring at the Bravo team leader and takes a step towards the barrier, standing right next to McGee.

McGee answers first Future's question, "Well, there's rules against torture, abuse that sort of thing, but a hug would probably be okay."

Hearing that answer, Magmite struggles against his restraints, growling, "Don't let him touch me, the freak." Future puts his hand on the barrier, his body posture the closest thing to a smile he ever comes.

The radio on McGee's shoulder crackles and he replies back, "Roger, I'll let them know." He turns to Wi-Fi. "Rickles just said he's getting you boys on the plane a file with the evidence list. Thought you'd like to know."

Barney wonders what in specific Future has in mind that is so upsetting to Magmite. He says, "I am certain torture will not be required." He says this severely, as if warning Future. Looks like time for a bit of "Good cop, Bad Cop". Since he has neither need nor desire for torture, it should be effective to play the good cop.

He glances at Wi-fi for further instructions.

"Let's see what he knows and what he thinks he know. He clearly has a fear or concern of Future. We can use that too. I'd like to hear him boast..he might give us something about his base of ops indirectly. Then we use the spear." she said quietly to Battletoad and Spiderweb with a nod. Future was a wildcard and understood his thinking to a degree. It would be easier to beat the truth out of Magmite. That was not an option though. The implied threat could be used. Especially in this case because Future genuinely wanted to hurt the prisoner. Turning on her omega com link to the plane and putting her spiders to record and send audio and video to the plane as well. This would allow the others to watch and potentially spot something she and the the three others with Magimite might miss. That they could check info and back up facts with research on the fly.

"Let try a bit of Planning/prep, Engage and Explain, Account, Closure and Evaluate (PEACE) with some good cop/Badcop. If you have any ideas or improvements speak up now. my spiders are recording and sending audio and video to the plane just so you all know." she transmitted waiting on a response from the other three before turning on the mic. The night before she did do a little research and found this method. She was certain the "Beat the Truth out them" and was not sure she would pull off the Reid method too well. Regardless one had to be picked and this was it unless one the other three had a better idea. Fartaday would have been nice to have but she needed him to keep the treat at the plane inline. The joy and NCO...It was nice to have someone to pick up the slack.

With a moment of focus to use her Psychic senses to help out and then she commences as the color patterns around Magmite took form instead of the normal noise lines.

Once the others agree she will turn on the mic if needed she looks to Magimite..

"Magmite,I have a certain perspective my fellow omegas don't have. I get the impression of villains Like Uber that they use and throw away people. People like Uber prefer people who succeed. The fact you are here means he probably has your replacement on the way to Century Station now. If you cooperate...we can make this easier on you and your teammates. I need to know about why and where your base is in my city. I don't like unexpected visitors. And I'm guessing my new friend here.." she indicates Future, "is not so fond of unexpected guests either."

"Lets start with something simple..What are you after and what are you doing in Century station? Where is your base of operations?" she stated calmly but firmly looking Magmite in the eyes. As the mutant asked she send a telepathic message to Battletoad, Spiderweb, and future.

Barney keeps his hand on the spear, but looks at Future, as if preparing to restrain him. He uses peripheral vision to keep an eye on Magmite. It is tough though, not looking at what you are actually trying to watch. He is not certain how good his acting is.

FAR BE IT FROM ME TO TELL YOU HOW TO DO YOUR JOB
Despite Future's eyes being totally hidden below his hood, Barney feels icicles being shot in his direction (these are of the metaphorical variety, not any sort of super powered attack!). Then in a low voice, with an achingly acidic tone, the Ultra Teen spits out, "Is it just because you're old that you think as a young adult I'm going to do the wrong thing? Did you read the file, MENTAL ABILITIES." And then in a voice mumbled and low yet clearly still meant to be heard, "Always in motion is the future."

Battletoad leans in close to Wi-Fi and whispers, "Why the spear? We don't want to hurt him." That last part wasn't a question, but bordered on a command.

Future stands right up to the acrylic barrier as Wi-Fi begins her questioning. Battletoad is next to Wi-Fi at a close, but comfortable distance. For a "teen" hero, she is very calm and composed.

Unlike the prisoner. Magmite rattles against his restraints. He glowers at the heroes, and each time he does there's a small convulsion in his body. He grits his teeth. Despite the pain that seems to be affecting him, he doesn't cry out. Sweat beads on his forehead after a minute or so and then he relaxes suddenly. There is an audible thump as he settles into the chair. The cables holding his wrists and feet to the bolts on the floor appear to be on reels with an auto retract feature, similar to a seatbelt strap. He is able to move slowly, but any sudden jerk locks the cable up.

"I won't be here long. Just you wait," he says. It seems like all he is going to say, but then he launches into a monologue.

"You people will never understand. I have a family and a family that will do anything for each other. I also have my comrades. Comrades who will risk anything for each other. And it's not because of some childish emotion or sentimentality. No we need each other, we are a complex machine, one where every part is unique and vital. So, you see, I really have only to wait. No one is selling anyone out. No one. You can't scare me. None of your 'reverse psychology' will work on me. I see right through your games. You bring these kids along with you to what, try and intimidate me? Ha! You just wait. I hope you're here when they come. And they will come. And they will free me. And they will free everyone else here too. How do you feel about that? Yeah, you're frightened. That's okay. You'll be dead soon enough."

Barney gives a silent sigh, it seems Future missed the point of this playlet. Hopefully he is actually using his mental powers to catch surface thought, assuming that is one of his powers. The point of the questioning, if you have a telepath, is to get the person to think about the information you want...their actual physical responses are less important than what they think about between the question and the reply.

He does answer the question from Battle Toad (if he hears it), "Know you this is no ordinary spear, but rather the mystic fang of the Godling Anansi the Spider. It is endowed with a portion of his mystic might and wisdom. It has many abilities of great utility."

No need to explain just WHAT those abilities are yet.

"Magimite, we do have one thing in common. I have friends and team mates too. Uber and his cohorts don't care about you or your team your just a tool. One way or another we will get the answers. When we do you'll be a corpse in the bay probably along with your team. and that is not reverse psychology." she pauses.

"I was a vigilante before being an omega. If one of our own betrayed or was suspected of it they were executed by small caliber round to the face to leave them identifiable and left on display. They did that show everyone what a traitor gets. Seeing the people on Uber's team...You'll be lucky if they do that. I wouldn't want to die by that Death field...Your team won't turn on you..but Uber? he has a lot to lose. Even if you don't talk he'll kill you suspecting that you did." she said then pausing. He was team player and that angle could be worked.

"Give us something and maybe we can consider keeping Uber away from you and your teammates..." she offered. This didn't mean letting them off for crimes or reducing sentence. They would owe up for what they did.

"If you have any questions feel free to ask. " Telepathically she spoke to Future, Battletoad and Spiderweb.

BIG DEAL
"Spider godling? I wonder if we've met? Not that many golding's around you know." Battletoad looks thoughtful, not realizing epic conceitedness of her comment. "Well, you seem to be one of the few level headed people around here, so I hope you can make use of any of the spear's abilities that are relevant to the situation," she says earnestly. Turning from Webs, she looks back at Magmite. "Future, tell me what you can see."

"Obviously, he's angry. His powers are nullified. He keeps screaming about that in his head. Over and over. It's hard to make out much more," Future responds to Battletoad. "He didn't focus on one thing when asked about why they are here. If I had to guess, I'd say he really doesn't know. Or doesn't care. Probably doesn't care. I don't have a name, but I think their base is in a giant building, huge. It's like a round pyramid or something."

Magmite can hear all this. He glowers at Future, the hate almost visible. When Wi-Fi breaks in with her "good cop" routine it does break his focus. He brings that hateful focus to Wi-Fi though. "Shut up bald bitch! You have no idea! You're all going to die! I am from a power lineage of powerful beings. You will all burn before me. You will beg for a quick release from this life, and I will not give it to you! I will watch you writhe in pain as the flesh on your weak body melts away, as your nerves are burned by the scorching flames. You will suffer. I will dole out suffering a hundred fold of what I feel here. Believe it."

There's hasn't been any word from the plane in a while.

Barney makes a note, Battletoad is presumably a Godling or something similar, otherwise she would not expect to know other Godlings. He will have to talk with her about it later.

Out Loud, he says, "So either he does not know anything, or he is keeping up a very good stream of thoughts to prevent deeper probing."

He waits for instructions from Wi-fi on how to proceed.

"Magmite, for one with power like yours your predicable. Your pawns, expendable and the only reason they will go after you here is to clean up loose ends and to silence you." she answered "Last chance if you want to save your self and your team give me something..Even if it is to save your own skin. What are your goals in this city? Did the team leader send you out for coffee one to many times or something?" she asked.

"If I were Uber I would tell you only what I needed you to know and something I can risk being learned. Your just muscle..He'll probably kill you as an example to the rest your team. He might not even raid. An internal hit is the easiest option to get rid of you if he cares to make an example to potential inmates of his influence. You know I am right about how your boss thinks. It is how his business and survival in his game works. Think about your survival. Your stay here can be more comfortable. The other choice is you can be a dead man by a prison chiv or worse. The choice is yours." she adds.

"Now Magamite, unless you have anything or any of you have anything to ask.", Wi-Fi turns to Webs and the the junior heroes, " Magmite? If you have anything else to add now the time. We can make your situation a lot better if you help us help you." she adds looking to spiderweb and the other two.

"I can tell what your thinking..should you not wish to speak to me in front of the guards or your hiding something...." she telepathically told the young villain.

Magmite answered a lot small questions she had. His mannerism and attitude were what she was guessing. He and his team were being used as fodder. For what she was fairly certain it was tied to that portal. It did raise the the question why capture and not simply kill? a factor to consider and take up team leads, Battletoad and the rest after.

Re: Bravo - Riot in Cell Block No. 9

Message For Wi-Fi
Subject Evaluation: Unstable, temperamental, and immature. I doubt he is trusted as anything more than muscle by his team leaders or father given his instability and temperament. He seems to have faith in his team and father however, faith that they will not abandon him. He is likely correct even if only because of both him being a potential liability and because of his lineage. There are however still exploits available.

Recommendations:

1.) Focus on questions that provoke specific thoughts, giving a moment for thoughts to form in response and his mind to wander whether he likes it or not.

Examples:

- Where is your safehouse here in Century Station?
- How do I get to your safehouse?
- What was your assignment here, before you decided to go out and prove yourself?
- What was important about that assignment? Was any part of it emphasized by anyone?
- What made you decide to go out and prove yourself on the streets alone?
- Why do you feel the need to prove yourself? Do the others not respect you?
- How many are on your team here in Century Station?
- Who is your team leader here?

2.) Stop the exchange/feedback of the interrogation team from being conducted inside the perception of the subject. Have the telepath gather notes/impressions in response to each question and signal when their notes are complete. We can reference them to formulate further questions and/or to know when our objectives are complete.

3.) Use the subject's temperament against him. Attempt to provoke a reaction/outburst that could be useful.

- He appears prideful and sensitive concerning his status/standing. This could be a weak point to target during interrogation.
-- Highlight that he showed extremely poor judgement in taking on an adult super team alone in the streets. He displayed exactly the poor judgement that likely caused him to feel the need to prove himself to start with. Why should his team trust him with anything important? Why would they? Of course they didn't. They wouldn't. He doesn't know anything important because he is a screw up and his own team doesn't trust him. We should move on because this guy is a screw up nobody.

Then wait and see what he says and what is gathered telepathically.

4.) Highlight that even if all that he believes to be true is in fact true and his father and team may still attempt to affect a rescue, they may in fact never turn on him, he has never been imprisoned somewhere like Gramercy before. He has in no small way stepped out and dunked himself into the deep end of the pool. Big water time now, Mr. Jenkins.

And while we may not be able to legally torture him, we can in many and various ways make his time in Gramercy either much easier and simpler, or much less pleasant than it already is. He can cooperate or not. And be rewarded, or not. We can try to arrange for him to be in the nicer cellblocks, away from the worst elements. Or ask for the opposite. And the absolute worst thing he can do is make us believe that there is something he can give us, something valuable, but that we don't have yet.

Because then we will just be back for more interviews, on a regular basis. Like clockwork. We come, he comes and sits down with us whether he likes it or not, and we talk. Two, three times a week. And why would we keep coming and chatting with him if he wasn't talking, right? Why would we waste our time? We wouldn't right?

Then after we talk for a while he gets moved to the cush cellblock. Or gets some pocket change deposited into his account in jail commissary.

Pretty soon ... everyone on the inside will be convinced he is singing like a good canary. And then it would only be a matter of time until his father and his team heard the same story.

So talk now, and maybe no one ever is the wiser. Or talk later when everyone on the inside, and his own team etc. is convinced that he actually is a traitor and he needs to save himself. Because sooner or later no one likes a snitch. And we can make sure even his own father would be convinced that he was one.

- - -

Good luck with the interrogation boss. I'll check back in with you in a few minutes.

Barney looks over the information and thinks so the telepaths can read it, *It seems to be good advice, for the most part. Having admitted that you can read his mind may be a tactical error, but it can not be undone now.*

It is still Wi-fi's choice. Personally he adds an extra thought, *I would ask him if his intent was to be captured for some reason. It does puzzle me why he would take on a whole team of heroes at once...*

IS THERE ANYONE LISTENING?
"What the hell? Did you guys even listen to me? He f&*&*king told us where the base is. You live here, figure it out, a big round pyramid thing. Ring any bells. Jesus, amateur hour."

"Future! Don't talk to anyone like that!" Battletoad hops (hehe) out of her chair and actually points a finger at the other teen. Her pose is far more mature than any teen status would suggest. Her tone too, she is definitely the one keeping the other teens, or at least attempting too, in line.

Magmite seems oblivious to the outburst and just glares at Wi-Fi. "You talk talk talk. You're the ones that're dead. You just don't get it. You'll all be gone soon! Hahahaha! You'll be gone! All of you! Gone!" Then he yells, "GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!"

McKee watches impassively. Wi-Fi and Webs are aware that the man's hard eyes pause briefly on each of them, a little longer than a glance before resuming their continual survey of the room. He doesn't seem the least bit put out by the rowdiness in the room, however.

Meanwhile, Magmite strains against his bonds and glares at everyone, the absence of literal fire in his eyes makes it all that much more desperate. "Soon! They'll be here soon and you won't stand a chance! You're mind parasites can suck my thoughts, never. I will resist. I know how to resist. Just try it, you'll fail. You will always fail, and then you'll be gone! We'll have a city of our own! Then were will you be! You'll be gone! Hahahahahahahaha!"

Clearly Future is hearing things Barney is not...and he probably should not be saying them out loud. He seems to be doing his job of gathering information, but is speaking that information out loud rather than telepathically sharing it with Wi Fi. Possibly he thinks speaking the information out loud will draw a useful reaction?

Barney notes to Magmite, "You do not think we are here alone, do you? An attack here would wind up with your friends trapped between those of us IN here and those of us out THERE."

He is only halfway bluffing, he is pretty sure an attack in force at the prison would draw in not just the rest of the Omegas, but all the heroes in the city.

"Tell us why your team was sent here. We know you have a portal. What does Uber intend on doing with it? You are not smart enough to plan this on your own.Hell even your boss probably has no idea what he's doing." she adds. This gambit was hoping to get him top react and spill his beans. At this point she was content with a base location. If there was a chance to get more out him she'd take it. If Magmite looks to be a dead end and he did considering how he was laughing the mutant would finish this.

(telepathically to her team and ultras present.)
"Future, after the interrogation share all the images you received from with me, I can have them sent to a comp for analysis." she thought to him.

IT'S EASY TO MAKE MISTAKES WHEN YOU'RE ANGRY AND IMPATIENT
Still focused on Future's behavior, Battletoad pulls out her tablet tappety taps for a second then says, "Future, is this what you saw?"
She shows it to everyone:
Image

"Yeah, so?" Future says through gritted teeth, he seems to know things aren't going to go his way.

"This," Battletoad says pointing as sucky finger at the screen, "is Paragon Estates, and Feather and I have long suspected it to be the Young Elite's base. You recognize the skyline right?"

With the unique combination of dejected, defiant, angry and pouty that only a teen can pull off, in a near whisper, he says, "That's Ultrapolis."

Turning to Wi-Fi and Webs, she looks apologetic, her froggy head pointed to the floor. "I'm sorry for Future's outburst. His information is actually incredibly valuable, just not pertinent to this case. Do we have any other techniques to use in Magmite's interrogation. I strongly suspect that Magmite doesn't actually know. The information you provided, if I recall correctly, says that he showed up before the others? That's how he was captured so easily?"

For a change, Magmite doesn't actually have anything villany to say, he just pulls so hard against the restraints that it looks like his eyes are about to pop out of his head.

What are you doing?

"Did Magmite have any personal effects when you processed him, Chief? If so can we get look at them?" she turned to Mckee. This particular bit did make sense to her. If the portal was active it could transit between the two cities. The young elite's base would be an ideal place to plant the other end. It too would need to be dealt with as well.

"Webs, use the spear we've got all we can get conventionally." she nodded to him then turns to Future and Battletoad. The event did give them an edge. That second location could be an ambush point or a back door to exploit and strike from for surprise.

"Good find Future, I need all that you saw when you did the scan. Share with me telepathically. Once that is done I can download it to plane. no matter how minor the image, it could be important." she nodded to him.

"Battletoad, We may still need that info..I get the impression this case is bigger than just this portal. His easy capture had other factors like his excitability and aggression that got him caught." Wi-Fi adds.

Barney carefully touches Magmite, "Speak the truth, do you know where your other Young Elites are staying in this city?"

If he answers, what he says has to be true...if he resists the spell he will not answer. Wi-fi will have to tell him what other questions to ask.

DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO
McKee checks a tablet at his side and says, "Yeah, here, check it out." He holds the tablet up so Wi-Fi can read the list:
  • Magmite's equipment in evidence:
    1. Comm device (not yet decrypted)
    2. Car keys (2044 GMC Yukon Extended, not recovered yet, VIN:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Plate:XXXX-XXX)
    3. Heat resistant "fanny pack" made of mimetic fibers (similar to Omega Suits)
    4. Badtz Maru wallet with $493
    5. Lightweight shorts (Patagonia brand), highly compactable
    6. Running shirt (Nike Crossfit brand), highly compactable

Future glares at Wi-Fi, maybe it's a friendlier glare than before. He telepathically connects to Wi-Fi and feeds her images of the things he's learned from Magmite. She doesn't learn that much more, but her understanding is much clearer of the things that they've discovered so far.

Battletoad nods her big head and blinks her bulbous eyes. "Rarely are these schemes as simple as they appear. What are you suggesting we do about it?"

McKee is a bit apprehensive about Barney "applying" a spear to his prisoner, but he understands the concept is not to go all stabby. When Webs applies the spear to Magmite and asks his question, the teen villain squirms and struggles, and tries not to speak, but finally says, "They are... not... staying... in the CITY!" To the followup questions, he struggles just as hard, "They... are in the city... they didn't tell us... me... where."

Current status:

"We're done here." she started out of the room, "If I could see his effects that would be nice, Chief." she asks as she left looking to him for an answer.

"Bravo lets go we have what we need." once away from the prisoner she looks to her team.

"I'm expecting Uber and his time to come through that portal. and that portal is probably not the only one. Future saw that estate you suspected to be the young elites base...my guess is that is where the other or another portal is." she spoke looking at the team, "Something like that needs space to use and secure effectively. In case unwanted guests show up."

"If so it could also be a good ambush site..as in they run and we could hit just as they exit the portal. We would need to confirm the portal at the estate future saw. It is a working theory but a good plan. The estate was big..so is the site Brute likely found as well." she paused looking to her team.

"I'm open to ideas. We should get back to the plane..Let our techs get a look at the prisons locker..and I am curious what Darryl found." The mutant finishes allowing others to discuss the matter. She had to remember that these were not soldiers and this team was a team. There was no 'Wi-Fi' in team. then out the blue came a radio call..

Brute radios Bravo team:

"This is Brute of Alpha team - The dosimeters have picked up a signal at the Labyrinth, and we are prepping for entry. Any intel from Bravo?"

Wi-Fi Radios Brute:

"This is Wi-Fi, expect Uber to show up and have friends. we have confirmed he is in town, no location. Uber jumping through that gate is a serious possibility. If he runs we have a likely location. Considering how to confirm now if a portal is at the second base. Do you want Bravo team there for the raid or are you good?? I can get the locals in Ultraoplis to check the estate or we can fly there." she radioed back.

Brute radios back to Wi-Fi: "We're good for now, finish up there and then rendez-vous with us at the Labyrinth. Keep me apprised though, if anything changes, and we'll let you know if Uber shows up. Wouldn't hurt to see if locals in Ultra City can check out that estate for us."

Initiative:1d20 = 20
JIC:1d20 = 9
JIC%:1d100 = 92
Barney notes an emphasis on the word CITY in the first statement an asks an additional question, "Where are Uber and his allies staying?"

Possibly they are staying somewhere nearby, but outside of the city.
