Simon Nash: Undercover

The world is threatened by darkness, monsters hide behind human faces and not everything is what it seems.

The officer goes down fairly quickly, giving Simon time to attempt a bluff.

A voice calls from inside the van, "The van is secure, nothing has entered since it was sealed."

Another voice, muffled and weak, calls out, "Help me, someone please stop this madman."

The first voice says (lower) "Shut up you, I may need you alive but I do not have to leave you able to talk."

It sounds like the first voice believed you, but is confident in their security system...whatever that is.

You can hear the sound of the other officer hurrying back to investigate the shots. The hounds, oddly enough, seem to still be going away (your distraction shot at another one to keep their attention, though Simon can not see that from where he is).

"I'll do what I can to intercept communications and fake get clearance to move the van and get the hounds and guards clear. I can have them track a threat away from the van. Might be able to cut power briefly to add something for them to track. Sound like a plan?" she asks as she considers how and what to use. If she knew the area better and what specific foes the enemy was concerned with it would be much easier. Such tactics would start fighting that might distract form her and her new friend. Perhaps a listen in on the radio might help in that department. Now it was time to recall the various factions and who was not friendly with each other. Vampires, Nightbane and Night lands had politics and to learn them was tricky. One had to learn them via conversation and commentary. She lacked resources of PAB and Quint's Overmind. Satya would need to improvise.

He heard the call for help from inside; damn, that meant he couldn’t just eliminate the truck as asset denial.
“You need any help keeping him inline?” he asked
Assuming he says no, Simon notices the other officer coming back. Gonna have to deal with him otherwise this goes to shit entirely.
“Be right back.” He tells the individual in the van

“Block his comms if you can.” He messages Satya, “Person they are using to power the device is being held captive. We need to either rescue or eliminate him; preferably the former for intel. Let me deal with this other officer and you get down here to provide assistance. You will need to get the prisoner out so that I can maintain my cover.”

Simon didn’t feel bad taking these guys down; there was no way they couldn’t have ascertained that the Hunters weren’t human, which meant they were colluders.

"Will do what I can then join you." the Psychic responds as she continues to monitor comms of the police and and hounds in the vicinity. she pats the odd knife at the small of her back. It was a keepsake from the Overmind days. Quint may have been loony to even attempt to use the gate he found Texas to reach the nightbane world but he did reach somewhere. The problem was what came in was not friendly. They did take down the creature that resemble a dragon with 5 dead shadow Warriors and two mages.. After managing to kill the beast she found a blade crammed in it no one noticed. Ever since then she kept it near and even object read it. The blade was indeed from another world and it was one she was glad not to be on.

The officer is either good or lucky, while Simon is able to take away his rifle, it appears he did not try to prevent that. Instead, he pulled a knife out of a hidden sheath and used it to block all but the last of Simon's attacks. The blade is made of some strange metal, dark and dull that reflects little light.

His counter attacks are pretty potent as well, 2 of them get past Simon's defenses and inflict a total of 10 SDC amd 8 HP (one of the attacks was a natural 20, thus the HP damage). That is one SHARP knife.

Satya thinks about who is who, she remembers that rumor has it the Vampires who remain in town are mostly female and hide in plain sight as prostitutes and strippers, that could explain what is going on with the strip joint a block south. Well if they are in the middle of fighting it is doubtful they can help. The main faction of Nightbane nearby is the Warlords, whose territory starts about a mile south of where she is...on the other side of Airport Highway. They have no love of the Police and might be able to help, if she can contact them...but it may take few minutes for them to arrive.

Given there is no one here to stop her...she could just turn off the generator or unplug the cable that leads to the van...no need to use her powers for that since it is a mundane action. The officer fighting Simon has not called for help...he probably has not realized the first call out was blocked.

The knife cut open Simon's side, drawing a grunt from him. I need some body armour when doing shit like this. He looks at the officer, but isn't sure if it's the one he spoke to earlier. Best not to let him hear my voice. The less methods they have for IDing me, the better.

Simon made himself look big to scare the officer, before he launches a series of attacks on him with the club, determined to put him down. Hopefully, my backup will be here soon.

"Considering there are NB and anti-Vamp groups near by...That gives me an idea." Satya thinks as she pulls the power from the generator or turns it off whichever looks safest. Finding a way to permanently cut the wire safely once it pulled from the generator. Her Knife should work good. It seemed quite sharp. Failing that turn on her Electrokinesis (Immune to electricity, 10isp ?) and pulls the plug.

If they can get that truck she could change the tracker in it and make a get way through NB territory much easier. Police would not be so eager to chase and any of the mirror forces would be targeted if they followed them with much more aggression. Of course she'd need to get a hold of the factions in those areas and see what favors she is owed or perhaps offer a free object read in return for safe passage. It was a good start to a plan and one that had a good hope of working. As she walks to the truck by following the cable from the generator keeping an eye out for trouble she sings to herself..

Simon continues to duel with the SWAT officer, but is interrupted by an interloper. A spark appears behind the officer, looking for a moment like a firefly, but rapidly swelling to the size of a human...though it looks like and extra from a cheesy B movie about an invasion by alien butterfly-men. Possibly Radioactive aliens, because he is glowing and wearing what looks like metal armor. He is holding, of all things, a pair of hypodermic needles in his hands that he sticks into the cop saying, "Surprise Mother-fucker!"

Whatever in in those needles, it works. The cop goes down like a wet rag. The butterfly-man seems surprised for some reason (hard to tell what his expression is behind that mask...or whatever it is) and says to Simon, "Nightstick, if I hold this guy can you cuff him and duct tape his mouth or something?"

Meanwhile, Satya goes over to look over the generator. Looks simple enough, you just flip this switch and...the area is suddenly filled with a loud warning siren! (Botched her electronics roll). The Hounds will surely have heard that...and possibly the others near the burning car as well. Satya grimaces, pulls her knife, turns herself proof against electricity, and cuts the cable between the generator and the van.

(OOC: You now have 2 rounds before the hounds get here to do something. Fortunately, power is off to the van, which limits the options for the one inside, but he will be doing SOMETHING.)

As Franklin arrived in front of him and downed the officer, Simon was surprised and readied himself for another opponent before he realises what was before him.

"Nightbane!" Simon muttered, "Should have figured.

Simon kneels down, scooping up the knife the officer had been using, before he grabs any cuffs and cuffs the officer to the other unconscious officer. Simon was able to quite easily manhandle the unconscious body. He took off the downed officer's radio and passed it to Franklin, taking the other one for himself. "Take this, you will be able to listen in to their conversations." He strips both officers of any weapons, before he turns to look at the van next to the generator.

"There is a captive in that van, we need to get him out. Its related to whatever was going on down there." he explains quickly to the Nightbane, "we need intel and we will share what we know in exchange for assistance."

Then he heard the alarm. Oh FFS! he thought, as he grabs up the rifle he had taken previously and sprints over to the van rear.

"We have an electrical fire on the generator. We've manage to cut the power, but we need an extinguisher, otherwise this entire van is going to go up in flames." Simon bullshits to the man inside, trying to get him to open the door.

"We need move fast. Jack the truck or get the door open fast. cut, blast...whatever it takes." she texted as she walked quickly to reach them, but not too quickly as to trip. Better find the rest and a place I can shut down the alarm but that is pretty much unfix able. best chance is to get that truck and get our target or just jack the truck. Target, device and all. she heads to wear they are. If she could reverse this this would be a good idea. she sends a message to Simon. Perhaps Perhaps they could make something of the mission yet. Would be nice to see the warehouse but the truck and any thing it had would need to do.

Franklin nods to Simon, then looks at the van. "There's a dude in a magic cage in there. Not sure if we need to be worried about that. I guess since there's all this noise I don't need to worry about being quiet."

He then stabs one of his entomological pins into the van's window as hard as he can, just above where the door handle is. If that's not enough to break the glass, he keeps going. When he gets through, he tries to reach down to pop the lock/door from the inside. After all, that's what they do on TV!

Franklin walks around to the front of the van (oddly there are no windows in the back except the one in the door, and that is reinforced with armored slats) pokes the glass with a needle...and with supernatural strength. He is able to poke a fist-sized hole in the glass and reach inside to unlock the door.

Simon appropriates a rifle, a pistol, a radio, a number of rounds of ammunition (a full reload for each weapon), a night stick/stake and a darkblade knife. Also a pair of grenades (possibly gas grenades) and a gas mask. (Franklin would suspect this team was ready to act as backup for the ones inside.)

Simon tries to trick the man inside the van, but the man inside clearly does not believe him.

Satya feels a strange power surge, as if something is drawing power from a battery to use in some abnormal way...

“We need to be quick before those hounds come back," he says quietly to the others, "Let’s not create lots of noise, but move quickly. I'll take the operator, rest of you secure the van, rescue the prisoner if possible."

He weighs up the knife in his hand; seen these before, but not had chance to get one before. Better with these than my the nightstick and these won't break under duress like the stick will.

Presuming that Franklin opens the door, Simon rushes in with the knife, wanting to put down the operator as quickly as possible. This one he had no doubts they needed to be put down. Denial of their expertise to the enemy was important

It seems my contact was right to send me here..." she comments, "gentlemen, Good to meet you..Forgive me for not dropping names in the presence of our foes..I'm your technical and information support.." pulling out the dragon blade looking at the door to the power Satya sensed. If they didn't get in to the van, she was ready to herself.

Both were pretty much what she expected. A Nightbane or shape-shifter probably Bane. Her curiosity about true shape-shifters was struck. They were mentioned, but none actually seen or identified. Of course Quint was a bit off his rocker after the MKII project. He imagined there were Chimera-like creatures like the dragon that the blade was found in. That creature was a warning of what could happen in Quint's view. That was one the few things she and Quint were on the same page about. If such beasts did arrive what could a conventional military do? It took several Shadows and other Psychics to kill the beast and it took out 6 of her allies in the process. Telling by the size and how it acted, spoke it was it was probably young..but back to the matter at hand. the mysterious power that was in the van.

"I'll see about that power draw.." she looked for a good spot to cut so the door could be re closed if needed. Being a field op Combat was always a real possibility. She stood out of the way and focused on shutting down the power transfer device via Electrokinesis. The source of power was odd, but the device the power was going through should be affected. In Combat if needed she could cut Barrels by pointing away from her and cut the weapon with the dragon blade.

Franklin carefully pulls his arm out of the hole in the window, granted he has a metal exoskeleton, but he might still cut himself on the glass, then he opens the door and prepares to enter.

Satya focuses her power on the device she senses, it seems to be built into the antennae housing on top of the van. She concentrates on damping the electrical energy. A bolt of lightning seems to come down from the heavens above, striking at the antenna, which apparently also functions as a lightning rod. It is a lot more power than she was expecting to handle, but she tones it down a bit before it arcs down to strike at Franklin where he is opening the door (Franklin takes 16 points of damage from the Call Lightning effect and needs a save vs magic to avoid being stunned, be glad it was half damage thanks to Satya).

Satya realizes that was what was wrong, it was not drawing power from a battery, it was drawing power from the world, it will be able to keep drawing power and sending further energy arcs...for who knows how long. She realizes she needs to get inside and stop this. She attacks the armored door with her knife. The knife cuts the steel of the door latch with relative ease (ignores the armor, but not the SDC of the latch...fortunately the latch has only a fraction of the SDC of the entire door). She pulls the door open...

Simon rushes past her and attacks the man handling the machinery. He thrown a flurry of blows with the knife (which is listed as 2d6 damage counting the Darkmetal bonus). The Man looks like a cyborg, with strange devices grafted into his flesh. Somehow he deflects one attack and avoids another, but the rest of the attacks lay him out fairly quickly.

The other man is strapped to something that looks like a cross between a rack and a pentagram. Elecrtical wires are clamped to his body at various places and he seems to be currently unconscious.

Anyone who is outside and aware can see the hounds have drawn near and will doubtless be attacking momentarily...unfortunately Franklin is at the front of the van (nearest the hounds) while the other two are in the back, the odds are good the hounds will try to swarm the Nightbane.

"We should leave unless there is a pressing reason to stay. This van should be good travel for now.." the woman suggested looking around for a way to get the man loose as she stepped inside.
He was key to all this and keeping the fevice intact was something she wanted to do. Perhaps to use against the hounds...

Simon pulls his knife of the operator as he collapses to the ground. He lacked medical training and currently enough inclination to check if he was alive as they had more pressing concerns. he wipes the blade on any clothing the man has that wasn't shredded and covered in blood. He was going to be using this a lot more for close up work.
“If he’s still alive, keep him that way. We can interrogate him for intel later."

Seeing Satya checking over the captive, he turns to ask her questions.
“What about that guy? Can he be moved? Can the low jack system be turned off so they can’t track the van?

He looks out of the van to call around to Franklin. Right now, there was three of them and the lady didn't seem to be a combat veteran, so it fell to him and the Nightbane to handle that element, whilst she concentrated on the technical aspects that were her bailiwick.

“They will be here in a second. get ready for a fight, We only need to delay them long enough to get out of here.

Ouch! thinks Franklin as he's electrocuted, and then his healing powers kick in. [-6 SDC remaining, done after next turn]

Franklin turns to see the robot cops approaching, and responds to Simon. "I can handle the robot cops if you can get this van on the road and out of here. Do you have a dirty 800 number I can call to find out what the hell is happening here, though?"

Assuming nothing much changes, here's next round's strikes/parries:
Strike: 1d20+11 = 19 Damage: 5d6+19 = 42 Poison 1d4 = 3
Strike: 1d20+11 = 26 Damage: 5d6+19 = 34 Poison 1d4 = 2

Strike: 1d20+11 = 25 Damage: 5d6+19 = 38 Poison 1d4 = 4
Strike: 1d20+11 = 13 Damage: 5d6+19 = 30 Poison 1d4 = 2

Parries: 1d20+11 = 15 , 1d20+11 = 31 , 1d20+11 = 19 , 1d20+11 = 28 , 1d20+11 = 30 , 1d20+11 = 25 , 1d20+11 = 28 , 1d20+11 = 15 , 1d20+11 = 21 , 1d20+11 = 12 , 1d20+11 = 24

CONTINGENCIES:

If Franklin loses more than half his combined total SDC/HP, he turns astral and runs the hell away.
If the van escapes with a good lead, he turns astral and follows the van.
If he's grappled/immobilized by the hounds, he turns astral and runs away.

There is a strange cry, and Franklin can clearly see someone in the distance fighting one of the hounds with an Axe. It looks like that David guy Franklin met in the strip bar. Apparently he found a way to get out of custody. The rest of you lack the Night Vision to see clearly in the gathering gloom (for some reason, since Dark Day street lights seem to be a lot dimmer than they used to be, as if someone does not want the streets well lit).

The other Six hounds are charging towards the van with blade-staves in hand.

Franklin tells Simon to get the Van going and wades into the hounds. One is hurt, apparently shot, so Franklin starts by concentrating on him. Between the previous injury and the damage Franklin does with his needles, the hurt hound falls and starts to decay.

The hounds attempt to swarm Franklin, who manages to block most of their attacks (except that one he steps right into thanks to the nat 1 and one or two others) taking a mere 29 SDC and 14 HP (the HP being due to the fumble).

Simon has to decide whether to help Franklin or try to get away in the van. It looks like the cybered geek is probably dead, unless he has something left in the implants that keeps him alive...that is beyond Simon to know.

Meanwhile, Satya studies the strange device holding the captive. It appears to be designed like a fishhook or porcupine barb, so drawing out the connections will do damage to the subject. She could easily disconnect the power feed, but it would be easier to disassemble the device than to remove it without harming the captive...and she gets the feeling that even with her abilities she can not put it back together if she does that.

Option two: we disassemble and get him loose unharmed quickly but not capture the device intact. If we disassemble I probably can't rebuild it..If take the truck I can likely disable any transponders." the woman answers looking over and checking the power connections. Looking to the 'battery'. The idea of keeping it intact was a good one but would take longer. perhaps they were right taking the truck as a whole might be an option. Driving through places they were not prone to follow was a good tactic.

"What exactly is this and how does it work...quick notes version if you can. I need to know how to get you loose and keep the device intact if possible." she stated to the person in the device. This person here probably overheard something of value in passing. Best to see if he did..

Simon quickly fires off a number to Franklin for a burner phone; that way if Franklin gets caught, it would be difficult for them to find him afterwards

This entire mission was an operational clusterf**k

Disable the transponder and lets get out of here, Simon orders, "we don't have time for anything fancy. I'll provide cover for you alongside the Nightbane. If any way you can use the device quickly and easily against those Hounds, do it, otherwise get the van ready and be ready to pick us up on the run. No shooting unless you have to. Hounds are unlikely to have thought to radio for help and the operators are all down.

As the hounds surround Franklin, Simon dashes out, slashing at one of them in the back with his new knife. Lets see if we can take down a few of these things with us.

"Transponders...Got ya. I can deal with as we move if we need to go fast." she quickly removes the power link from the truck. she stepped into the truck and linked to the device and trucks transponders. Her Telemechanics should be able to manage that. Her MK Programming condition had one advantage that near stupid fearless did have use. The idea of shocking hounds was a good one. Satya did look into using the device..here is hoping it didn't kill the guy hooked up. This was that sort of thing Her old masters would call acceptable losses. The other two might not see it quite that way.

"I need your help, bud. I need to use this shock canon...it won't kill you will it?" she ask via a radio to the man in the machine. If he responds no..then she employs the device. If he said yes then does not employ the machine. Once the transponders are disabled the Broker calls out via radio to Simon. Her Telemechanics did leave her worrying about what might lie in wait in some machines.."To ride the storm, to an empire of the clouds To ride the storm, they climbed aboard their silver ghost To ride the storm, to a kingdom that will come To ride the storm, and damn the rest, oblivion..." she said to herself as she links up to the machine.

"Transponders are down." her voice came out of the radio.

Simon makes a suggestion and charges out to help.

Satya disables the GPS tracing system and the other tracking devices (there are a few...someone did not want this van lost). It takes a few seconds

Satya talks to the prisoner, asking, about how the machine works. The man answers, "The one attached to me is a compulsive amplifier, it uses my magic, whether I want it used or not, and sends the effect out over an area instead of targeting an individual. Right now, I am about out of power. The Lightning Cannon is something else entirely, I do not know how that works, but the controls are off to the left of the main panel."

She looks and sees a monitor and a set of control devices like an arcade game, looks easy enough, just slip the targeting reticle over what you want to hit and press the fire button. It probably takes a few seconds to charge up after a shot (meaning it has a rate of fire of 1 action, you can not repeatedly hit the button and fire again immediately like in some games).

She tries it out, and lightning falls from the sky hitting one of the hounds inflicting 23 damage. (Only 1 shot this round due to how long it took to turn off the tracing devices.)

Outside, Franklin sees Simon exit the vehicle. What is with the guy? Franklin can get away easy, he is trying to buy the other's time.

Simon makes a series of slashes with the knife, only half hit but the knife cuts through houn armor as easily as a normal sharp knife cuts skin. Well OK, help is good too. Still, he berates the Soldier for risking himself when not required.

Franklin suddenly remembers his armor spell and puts it up, then returns to fighting the Hounds. He does as well as Simon or better, the two hounds will not likely last another round like that one.

Meanwhile, the hounds counterattack, 3 on Franklin and 2 on Simon (they think the Nightbane to be the bigger problem).

Hound #1 gets in two strikes past Franklin's defense that are fortunately taken by his armor (24 sdc to armor spell from hound #1, 50 SDC to Franklin from a nat 20 bypassing the spell)

Hound #2 is not as lucky, only one attack get through for a mere 15 damage to the armor.

Hound #3 does poorly and Franklin parries all the attacks.

Hound #4 is good or lucky, hitting 3 times on Simon despite his defenses for 79 SDC damage (nat 20's on the enemy side are annoying)

Hound #5 Simon manages to parry.

Totals:
Hound #1 took 143 SDC and 12 HP from Franklin and is going to be reduced in ability by the poison.
Hound #2 took 23 SDC from a lightning blast
Hound #4 took 102 damage from the Darkmetal knife

Franklin took 39 SDC to his armor spell and 50 SDC to his body.
Simon took 79 SDC.

Starting to have difficulty seeing clearly enough to strike accurately, Dave finally manages to batter the Hound into a pile of dissolving ooze. Whirling, he sprints toward the remaining group of minions of the Nightlords, currently swarming the Nightbane -- who presumably can take it -- and the poor idiot swinging away in the gloom, who -- as Dave notes as he rapidly covers the distance -- seems to be a little overmatched.

It gets any darker out here, and we're going to have to light this place up, Dave complains. Damn Nightland Illuminati and their dim streetlight agenda.

The people of your time are spoiled by all of this constant light, Susan replies. You are never in darkness unless you choose to be; you should not complain.

There isn't time for further complaints, however, as Dave joins the battle swarming about the van. He piles into the Hound who is carving chunks out of the guy with the 'Bane, and does some carving of his own, the axe licking out faster than one would expect thanks to his enhanced strength.

"Get out of here!" he urges the guy who has the guts, if perhaps the poor sense, to go toe to toe with a pack of Hounds.

"I could get used to this Lightening thing...Kind of feel like Thor." she grins, "Magic? your a mage I take it? That is helpful. Simon had been overconfident and it almost backfired on him; he’d taken down one Hound, but the others had sliced him up good and proper. As he fell back on the floor, he started to crawl away as he tried to stem the bleeding.

Another ally leapt into combat against the Hounds
An axe, well well, it’s a small world.
He slid the knife into his boot as he pulled himself back to the van; Protect the asset he mused, grabbing hold of the rifle. Any Hound that tries to get away or go for the van, he’d take down.

David charges in, intent on saving the guy who is facing the hounds and getting the worst of the fight...the Nightbane can probably handle himself for a bit. He swings "Susan" forcefully, unfortunately JUST as the hound moves to the side and the axe slams into the side of the van, cleaving through the metal like cardboard and cutting through a number of wires on the inside of the van. The entire panel opposite to where he hits goes dark, causing Satya to lose control of the lightning cannon.

Franklin also sees Simon is in trouble and turns his attention to the damaged hound fighting Simon. Four attacks with his needles (one of which was parried) and the hound finally goes down, leaving him with one attack left to use on hound #1, who parries that

David pulls Susan out of the van and, seeing one hound falls, turns to the other hound that was fighting Simon. The hound blocks one attack, but the first and third hit, and the third hits deep. The hound snarls but continues to fight.

Satya lined up her attack and prepared to fire...but the panel went dead just before she pressed the fire button. Well that can't be good...especially not the smell of burning insulation and the shriek of tortured metal. Fortunately the circuit breaker shut things down before there was a serious fire, but unless she finds another way to control the weapon she will not be using that.

The man in the amplifier rig replies, "A mage, well of a sort. Those who have heard of my kind would call me a Shadow Warlock. I am a human who has learned to use magic in a way different from most other mages...if you have heard of Nightbane I use my magic on a way similar to them, but without having another form. Ouch, I think something hit us."

The four remaining hounds concentrate on the two remaining foes, fortunately for Franklin they split evenly and attack both him and David.

Hound #1 is suffering from 4 doses of Franklin's debilitating poison, he manages to hit hound #2 once for 26 damage and manages to get close enough to hitting Franklin once to require a parry, otherwise he did not hit anything (rolled a nat 1, thus hitting something not planned).

Hound #2 is disarmed by a parry from Franklin and loses an attack while he recovers his weapon, but does not manage to hit anything.

Hound #3 concentrates on the Axe-bearer, but does quite poorly, most of his blows deflecting harmlessly from the magic armor, only one requiring a parry (which was easily made)

Hound #5 makes up for the previous time, though the Axe wielder manages a good string of parries the final blow hits past the armor inflicting 34 SDC to David (nat 20 on the last attack, but poor damage roll).

Tally for round:
Van: 58 damage
Hound #2: 26 damage taken
Hound #5: 142 damage taken
David: 34 damage taken (not to armor)

Typical hero types all think they are invincible or will not be killed. I'll fetch my new wounded friend and get this truck rolling. Even if I have to Telemachanic it.

"I'll be right back once we are out here I'll work on getting you out that apparatus. We can work something out then. Sound good?" she offers shadow Warlock. Her expertise was not magic. If it were Nightbane, Nightlords and vampires she was an expert. this was both an opportunity for her and this Shadow Warlock.

"I leave you alone for a moment and you go and doe this. You'll need to guide me. My first aid skill is a bit rough..." she tells Simon as looks for a cloth. She makes her way to the truck and puts him in the front seat passenger seat or better yet the back with the Shadow Warlock. They could keep each other company and Simon from passing out.

”Whoops!” Well, that hadn’t gone exactly to plan; bright sparks flash and sputter as Dave wrenches Susan free from the side of the van. Hope that wasn’t anything important.

Getting his head back in the game, Dave trades blows with the Hound and gives better than he gets; a necessity if one plans on living very long in this line of work. Taking a big chunk out of his opponent is a very satisfying sensation; the return blow that nearly pierces his arcane shielding is much less so. It doesn’t break the skin, but he’s definitely going to feel it in the morning and will have an interesting bruise across his chest to explain to anyone who might see it.

”There an exit plan? he rapidly asks Glowbug in between clashes of weapon upon weapon, making sure not to tangle his attacks with those of the spiny insect-man. ”Or do we just kill them all and figure it out from there?” His tone of voice makes it clear he has no problem with it being one or the other.

"If you don't know what you're doing with it, don't bother trying to patch me up. I heal up quickly enough"
Simon bats the cloth away, as drags himself up into the van, but not to the passenger seat, but the driver's seat. "Make sure they can't follow us."

If I am going down, then at least I can get this intel to where its needed.

(Rolls carried)

Dave is impressed by this guy's ability to carry on a conversation while fighting; another freaky Nightbane power?

"Can do invisible," he replies, parrying a spear thrust with his axe haft and flicking the curve of the blade out in return. "Doesn't work on these guys, though."

He grins a predator's grin.

"Kill them all it is," he exults, and throws himself into the fight.

Conditions: Fading afterglow, dim street lighting
Time: 7:55 PM

Satya takes Simon to the front of the van, going around the side where there is no active fighting. She offers help but Simon refuses, stating he does not really need it because he heals quickly. She helps Simon hotwire the van so he can drive, though she finds his ability to function as wounded as he is amazing, he must have incredible endurance. She returns to the back to do what she can from there.

Simon finds the van a fairly typical small box truck, at least in terms of controls in the front. All he needs to do is keep his hands off the police radio. The problem is where to take the van. It has to be north, at least at first, because the rest of the police were headed south last he saw them (not to mention there is a burning car in the middle of the road), but from there, where can he take it? Not to the Airport, granted he has reinforcements there but the van would surely be spotted and it would give away his allies. He has to watch out for underpasses, the radar dish on the roof is tall...

Satya can now see about removing the man from the device. It will clearly be painful, though she imagines being hooked to it if the van has to make sudden maneuvers might be worse. He mentioned something about having abilities like a Nightbane...

Franklin swings at hound #5, who attempts to parry, they both completely miss, spinning around and sending their respective weapons flying off to land somewhere in the distance with a clatter. Fortunately for Franklin, he has more needles where those came from. The hound has to parry and strike back with his bare hands...which unfortunately he CAN do because of his limbs being armored. Franklin only manages two successful attacks, but given how badly hurt the hound was already that is barely enough to finish it off.

David concentrates on hound #3, after activating another use of his super endurance, if this keeps up he might need it. While the hound comes close to parrying on several occasions, he fails to block the enchanted axe and staggers under blow after blow. Somehow, despite taking 201 points of damage, the hound is still on his feet, though bleeding through his armor at several points, clearly one good blow will finish it off.

Hound #1 continues to suffer significant penalties from poison, remarkably it pulls itself together enough to launch an attack on Franklin that bypasses the Nightbane's magic armor and inflicts 24 SDC, undoing the healing he has done. That is the only successful blow it makes.

Hound #2 aims at David, apparently deciding to try to deal with the axe man first, he fires off a group of blows, which David handily parries, in fact, one parry knocks the blow so far off course that is strikes hound #4, finishing him off.

Tally:
2 more hounds dead

Franklin took 23 SDC to his personal SDC.

Dave laughs again, clearly not understanding that a mortal warrior, even one with an Artifact dedicated to battling the Dark, should be outmatched in this situation.

And, in his ignorance, seems to be pulling it off.

With only two left to deal with, the trend seems to be a foregone conclusion, but Dave doesn’t let himself get complacent. His dusky weapon is a flashing series of strikes and parries, Susan’s keen edge thirsting for the foul ichor the Hounds use for blood.

In this state, there is no way I can pretend for my cover. I'm too beaten up to pass muster. he tugged at his slashed and bloodied clothes. Grabbing his phone and head set, he messages their contact, linking Satya in. He stores the rifle he took on the seat next to him just in case. In his condition, a crash or being shot would probably be the end.

"We have the target, but need an exit. Need a location to hide the van that does not lead back to your base. Cover could be blown unless action is taken."

He leans out of the van, calling to the two still fighting. The quicker they left, the better their chances of getting through this.

Finish them off, we are leaving.

Dave barks a short laugh, twisting away from a spear thrust.

"Quit front seat driving!" he calls back wryly. "We're working on it!" What, like this joker thought they were just toying with a pack of Hounds, here?

Of course, from the look of things most of the blood on the ground belongs to the other man, so perhaps he has good cause to want to beat feet....

This was going to be interesting but she did have leverage and had to make contacts in the Warlords. Two contacts in one day was . They made good muscle even if they were a bit rough on the edges. The Information Broker considered them the bikers and truckers of the Nightbane.

"Lets see about getting you out of this contraption." she tells the man trapped. The device was worth keeping intact and looking at. Who she would contact to give the run down on it could wait. That task could be a task all its own. Her Knife would be able to cut the hooks that could speed up the process. The sooner they were in Warlords territory the better. At least them they could deal with. Also there was a chance one of the two Nightbane would know some of the warlords.

David pits Susan against one of the two remaining hounds, the less damaged of the pair. The hound parries the first two attacks but the remaining three strikes do considerable damage. (137 SDC to hound #2)

Franklin targets the other hound, who is still suffering the debilitating attacks of Franklin's poison. It somehow manages to parry the first blow, but twists itself directly into the path of the second and is slain by the third. He then turns to the remaining hound and finishes it off with two quick blows. For the moment, the parking lot is clear of enemies.

Satya gives instructions to Simon, though he has a conflicting suggestion come up on his cell phone, telling him to head for a Junk Yard on Alexis Road, several miles to the north. Apparently his other contact thinks a junkyard is a good place to hide a damaged police van.

Satya works as quickly as she can to remove the hooks from the flesh of the Shadow Warlock, it is difficult but she is making progress, she can remove the ones from the feet fairly easily but will need to take the weight off his arms to remove the others.

Dave steps back as the Hound goes down for the count under Glowbug's assault, flipping it off as it begins to break down and dissolve.

”Shiny,” he observes, glancing at the damaged Police van. ”This our ride, then?” Well – the ride of those without wings, in any case.

Not wanting to be left behind in the sights of any imminent reinforcements, he whirls the ornate axe in left hand and it simply vanishes as he takes long strides for the passenger door of the van.

”Knock knock!” he announces cheerfully, hoping the door will open under his hand so he can slip inside.

"Get in Axe boy," Simon replies, the masked figure's voice sounds familiar to David.

Dave slides into the passenger side of the police van, then looks searchingly at the masked driver. The voice seems familiar, the man is large and thoroughly muscled, he fought Hounds without any apparent hesitation...and he seems to know him.

"...Steve Rogers, is that you?" Dave replies, a grin flashing across his face. "Helluva small world. Sorry I didn't get here a minute sooner, maybe keep those doggies from having your guts for garters," he apologizes wryly, although he's at least a little sincere in wishing he'd been able to assist a little sooner.

"You going to be okay, man? he inquires. It's been more than long enough since he's had first aid classes that he's not sure he'd do more good than harm if he was to attempt to bind his fellow warrior's injuries.

After some moments of silence, listening to the discussions of where everyone is going in the van, he says "I guess I should come with you? I... still have no idea what's going on, but I'm highly tempted to go home and join a group dedicated to recalling the Mayor."

Dave frowns. "I'm not a fan of Warlords," he responds to the faceless voice from the back, "but Hounds like them even less, I'll grant you that." Hopping back out of the van, he quickly starts collecting the fallen Darkmetal weaponry as Cap had suggested.

"I don't think my lighter will do an adequate job of burning the scene," he apologized, tactfully not mentioning that he didn't, in fact, have any of his own blood on the ground. "Is there a blowtorch or something in the back that might work?" he asks raising his voice slightly to be heard.

Franklin looks at Dave, looks at the ground, "You want this burned so the blood's gone? I can do that. Just step back. And THEN can we leave?"

As soon as Dave's out of the way, Franklin starts spewing energy beams carefully back and forth across the ground, charring everything. "Pew pew! Pew pew!"
We're surrounded by monsters. Especially on the inside.
