Splynn
Friday, June 9th, 9:30 AM

It is a pleasant morning when Vortigern and Érebos step through the rift into Splynn. Unlike most cities, the air is crisp and clean, and the ever present hum of modern technology seems more muted, almost as if nature ran rampant here. The area you arrive in is relatively busy with being of all kinds, although you notice that you are the only human looking beings in the entire arrival plaza. Kittani and kydians check arrivals in, directing them as needed, and it does not take long for them to get to you. The kittani who greets you has a suspicious look on his face, and the two powerlords with him are holding their weapons in a blatantly hostile manner. "I'm sorry, new slaves are not allowed into the city un-escorted. Who do you belong to, so we may log the infraction." Before you can speak, a massive kydian steps up behind him, and whispers something in his ear. The kittani looks at him with an expression of disbelief, then shakes his head and motions you towards the new kydian. He is in full armor, and the expression on his face does nothing to hide his distaste for you. "Vortigern and Érebos. Welcome to Splynn. I am Jarnax. The High Lord has arranged for a brief tour of your new building, so if you can follow me, we will get started. I have more important things to do today than show future slaves around town."

He leads you between the the pillars that mark the edges of the plaza, to a vehicle that looks more like a floating platform than anything else. Once you are on board, he promptly directs it into the air and navigates his way through the city. "You will have to explore the city on your own time. I will however warn you, your kind are not commonly seen free in Splynn. High Lord Alaparos leasing you a building does not make you citizens, and he assumes no responsibility for anything that happens to you or your property. Ah, here we are." With that he lands the platform in front of a beautiful example of Splynn architecture, a one story building with elaborately decorated pillars in the front. He ushers you inside, and you can see that the construction is solid, and the frescos on the inside were done by someone with real talent. The entryway opens into a large room, one that compromises the majority of the building. Jarnax gives you a moment to look around, then leads you towards the back of the room, stopping only briefly to unlock a door. It leads into a much smaller room, one that is mostly taken up with a set of stairs headed down. "Access to the sublevels is by a different key than the one that opens the front. As per the contract, you are responsible for your own security here. You may feel free to change the locks and add security measures, however any major renovations to the building must be approved by the High Lord." The first sublevel has an open feel to it, with a reasonably sized open area in the middle, with several rooms of various sizes adjoining it. The second sublevel has less of an open area, but larger rooms.

After giving you a few minutes to inspect everything, Jarnax clears his throat to get your attention. "I have done what I was instructed to do. For now, I will be your point of contact for anything regarding the building that comes up. The High Lord will be watching, he see's something of interest in you, although I have no idea what. You are only human. Do you have any questions before I go and return to more important duties?"

Perception: 1d100 = 32/59%
See perception modifiers here
+10% in darkness or shadow, and +5% when pertaining to hiding, escape, Shadow Magic, Shadow beings, vampires and the undead (recognizing clues to their presence, servants, victims, etc.).
+15% to recognize the arcane.
-10% to perception rolls while directly in bright artificial light (>300 watts) or sunlight.
Perception has a base skill rating of 15%, adding 3% per level each additional level of experience beyond first level.
Perception does not replace the Detect Concealment or Detect Ambush skills, nor does it replace Read Sensory Equipment or Optics Systems for use with technological sensors to perceive.
Like Detect Ambush, Detect Concealment, and other skills, Perception is an opposed skill check.
As with all % skill checks, a natural roll of 96-00 is a critical fail and a natural roll of 01-05 is a critical success.

The Shadow Mage squints. What seems like reasonably bright lighting to most is far too bright for one for whom darkness is an old friend.

Speaking of old friends... he thinks as Az Rael's image briefly flashes in front of his face. Érebos shoves the image out of his mind with a cold sneer. No time for reminiscing right now. His face stone, he awaits whomever will greet him, standing stoically.

The slightest hints of a smirk appear on Shroud's face as the Kydian's appearance precludes any so-called "infractions" from being logged. He nods at the Kydian and inclines his head in the manner of one who acknowledges another, and with an entirely neutral expression on his face, turns to Vortigern.

"What do you think, Sir Vorigern?" he says, emphasizing the title in Vort's name. "Shan't keep the good High Lord waiting, hmm?" he says with a wink and a grin.

Assuming Vort agrees, he walks with him wherever the Kydian leads, carrying his gear with him.

Only human... thinks the Aerihman, stiffling the urge to sneer back and say something uncouth to the Kydian. "How might we reach you if we need your assistance, Jarnax?" he asks with a level gaze at the Kydian.

Once the platform arrives at their building and they enter Vortigern will deposit his luggage in the main hall while they walk around viewing the place.

As the tour proceeds Vortigern takes his time, letting his eyes and mind soak in the details of the place as he moves. Jarnax, it is clear, can wait while he does so. When the process is complete and Jarnax is moving to conclude things, and Erebos speaks, Vortigern waits expectantly for Jarnax to give an answer before adding anything himself.

When he does conclude the meeting he steps forward, raising one hand and gesturing commandingly, and speaks with a tone that clearly presumes obedience. "Inform High Lord Alaparos that so far all is satisfactory and our Contract is held valid. Payment for the Lease will be forthcoming. You will also inform him your services were adequate, though your courtesies are in need of refinement. I look forward to seeing how they may have improved upon our next meeting Goodman Jarnax. You may go."

Presuming Jarnax then departs Vortigern turns towards Erebos, his manner lightening somewhat. "We'll need to see about arranging staff first. Security and elsewise. Then furnishings, provisions, and perhaps any further security apparatus we'll need to make the place workable. But ... the bones of what we need are here I believe. Your thoughts?"

Vortigern notices the kittani and the two powerlords stiffen in anger and begin to speak before a quick glance from Jarnax silences them. When they turn away, the anger is still evident in their body language.

Even the lowest of the Sunaj and Staphra are of higher rank and stature than you are. Minding your place may keep your tongues attached for longer. Jarnax looks at Érebos, and gives him a relatively civil look, then reaches into a pouch at his waste and produces a thin plastic card. "This has a contact number. There is a very clear hierarchy here in town, and you are at the bottom of it. It will take more than simple looks to change that. Since you seem so determined to establish a pecking order, you may refer to me by my proper title, Powerlord Jarnax. There is no contract between you and the High Lord, much less a need for payment. You are being allowed the use of the building, until such a time as it becomes a liability to the High Lord. I understand that you come from Center, and that things are different there. Same old Vort... still thinking he's in his beloved Empire... thinks the Shadow Mage while stifling an amused smirk.

A temporary inconvience, Kydian scum... thinks Érebos as he hears the Kydian mention the hierarchical structure of the Splugorth stolen (for now) city of Atantis, and specifically how the Sunaj are near the bottom.

Érebos takes the card and nods at Jarnax, before turning his eyes toward Vortigern, anticipating the Kydian's response in the negative.

Sensing impending issues a bit too soon, given their newly arrived status in Atlantis, and getting the sense that Sir Vortigern isn't entirely up to speed on how things work in Atlantis, the Shadow Mage uncharacteristically inserts himself into the conversation before Vortigern has a chance to reply to Jarnax.

"Thank you for your time, Powerlord Jarnax. I'm certain that Sir Vortigern and I will not abuse the privilege of your assistance if it is needed. Though I've never spent a good deal of time in Atlantis, I have no doubt that Sir Vortigern and myself will need a bit of time to ..eh... adjust to the structure here and blend in with the locals, as they say." He coughs a bit uncomfortably and glances over at Vortigern, hoping the hint will be caught.

We really need to discuss how things work in this city before we end up on the wrong end of the Splugorth within moments of arrival...

Assuming Jarnax does not ask more questions or engage in protracted further discussion, the Shadow Mage will see the Kydian out and turn back to Vort.

"Apologies, my friend, but I get the feeling that we need to go over a few things. Atlantis is like Center in that it is a massive dimensional marketplace. However, the Splugorth are the undisputed rulers of this place, and humans are essentially disregarded as lower class fodder for slavery and little else. One could rise, to some degree, in Atlantis even as a human, but I think it will take careful political maneuvering. I interjected there to...shall we say, 'start us off on the right foot' with the good Powerlord. I suggest we lay low and not stir up too much while we're establishing our reputation as reliable and competent dimensional experts, as there will be plenty of time for power plays once we're more established. What do you say?"

As bad as you think it is for humans, it's even worse for my kind... he thinks to himself.

"Now, as to the matter of security that Jarnax mentioned - I recommend we get some sort of closed circuit camera system with redundant storage and thermo-imaging capabilities and get them installed immediately, following a competent bug sweep for monitoring devices. There is also the issue of magical and/or psionic eavesdropping. While I am limited in the realm of psionics, I do know of a spell that could help us tremendously. It is called Sanctum, and is a fairly high level enchantment that would prevent mystic disturbances such as scrying effects or the Locate spell. It also has some lesser protective effects - nothing as potent as some of your circles, I imagine. But, if we could obtain that spell, it would prove useful," he says, while walking around and carefully observing the area, looking for places to put cameras and also checking to see if any (especially, hidden) ones are noticed.

Speaking of spells...

"I would also like to do some shopping at the Dimensional Market and get us fairly squared away before we launch the business. What do you have in mind in terms of getting out and about here?"

Whatever Vortigern decides to do, Érebos will offer to accompany him and advise him on some of the characteristics and features of Atlantis, drawing upon his own previous knowledge of the place, its customs, and the like.

Érebos' knowledge
Being Sunaj, Érebos should know some things about Atlantis (as that is their primary objective, after all) and how the Splugorth heirarchy works, provided GM allows it

  • Can sense the presence of ley lines up to 5 miles away, nexus point up to 10 miles, and sense an open/active Rift up to 20 miles away. Can tell when there is more than one ley line or nexus within their sensing range, but are unable to pinpoint the exact location. They know the general direction and whether it is closer or farther away, weak or powerful, and if a Rift is opened.

Saving Throws, Bonuses, and other handy information
  • Bonuses while in Shadow or Darkness: +2 to Perception Rolls; +1 to Strike, Parry and Dodge; +3 to save vs. Shadow Magic spells; impervious to insanities involving darkness, shadows, or the denizens of the Shadow Dimension; and is never afraid of any kind of darkness (feels at home and safe in darkness). Heals injuries at 1d6 per hour of rest or meditation.
  • Penalties and Vulnerabilities: -2 Spell Strength when cast in areas of bright artificial light or sunlight (with no shadow to cast in), and all spell effects, range, damage, duration etc. of Shadow Magic are reduced by half. -2 to Perception Rolls and initiative, -5% on skill performance when in daylight, overcast (without shadows), or exposed to bright artificial light. Vulnerable to silver! Any kind of silver blade or bullet does double damage. Over time, some Shadow Mages (5% chance per level- not allergic @ level 1, roll again next level!) become allergic to sunlight and suffer from headaches and nausea when exposed to it for more than one hour (-15% to skill performance, reduce speed 20%, -1 melee attack and -1 on all combat bonuses).
  • Speed: Érebos runs at 700 meters per minute, 175 meters per melee round, 26mph! Can run at half that speed for up to 12 miles before fatigue, or 1/3 that at full speed before collapsing.

Vortigern inclines his head slightly to Jarnax and Erebos in turn, though perhaps somewhat stiffly. His hands come up to his belt where he hooks his thumbs briefly as he speaks. "Gentlemen. In respect for you both, I believe we have come to a poor understanding from the outset. One hopes in the future we can find a better rapport with one another all around." he says before turning to focus on Jarnax. "I did not know your station or rank, Lord Jarnax. Let it be known it is nothing I find trivial or unrespectable. We obviously are not prepared to entertain guests today, yet perhaps on another occasion. I bid you a safe and pleasant return journey." Vortigern says, before playing gracious host to the departing guest as much as might be feasible to Jarnax as he departs.

I do not want this one as an enemy. Yet I need him to respect me at the very least.

Afterwards he turns back to Erebos to whom he raises a hand to gesture with his motions betraying some tension and agitation. "My friend in this place we can ill afford to be other than unified. I can understand that we may not be in agreement as to how to handle all things. Yet it is imperative that this be something we handle internally. One can not show weakness in this game. That which would prey on us is merciless and inhuman, if we do." he says, lowering his hands to his belt and looking down for a moment of consideration. "I needs must proceed with constructing Circles and forming a retinue. In the interim ... I should be appreciative if you would ensure that all is secure."

After which Vortigern will take his baggage and head downstairs to claim the bottom left room of sublevel one in which to begin the construction of Circles.

Érebos
After Jarnax leaves and Vortigern heads down to do whatever it is he does, Érebos takes the time to inspect the building. He notices several places where it looks like a surveillance system had been installed, although as far as he can tell, there is not one installed currently. All in all the building is quite serviceable, and if the need arises, should be easy to defend. After a bit, he realizes he hasn't heard anything from Vortigern in a little over an hour and a half, even though they are in the same building.

Vortigern
Vortigern heads downstairs and lays claim to one of the larger rooms on the first sublevel. He takes his time and carefully scribes a protection Circle on the door, then gets down to the business of his summons. It takes him an hour to painstakingly draw out the correct Circle for an elemental, and begin his summons. It does not take him long to summon and bind 3 lesser elementals to his will. It is about this time he realizes he does not have all he needs to summon what he wants, and that he is going to need to go shopping to finish his plans for summoning.

Perception: 1d100 = 23/59%

JIC (100): 1d100 = 90
JIC (20): 1d20 = 19

Conditions (at the end of this post; time format= minutes:seconds): None

"Of course, my friend. I wouldn't insert myself into that sort of situation if I didn't realize we were not on the same page. Perhaps I moved too quickly, but in my judgment, sometimes it's better to be safe than sorry- especially in Atlantis," replies the Shadow Mage to his Circle Master friend and compatriot.

A difference in approach, perhaps? he thinks.

"It's possible this is just a variance in our individual approaches, Sir Vortigern. As you know about me, I tend to be indirect and deception is part and parcel of how I think and work. I don't mind the appearance of weakness at all... all the more sudden the nasty surprise for my enemies when they find out their perceptions were completely wrong."

Érebos shifts and tilts his head. "However, your approach seems to be more direct and based on establishing dominance from the outset - especially in the social arena. You're clearly more suited for it than I as well, as evidenced by your noble history and status and the way with which you navigate the social space. So, I'll take the backseat to your approach and advise 'from the shadows', as it were... pun intended!" he says with a grin to loosen up the tension.

No sense in denying the obvious - he and I are, in some ways, very different... but our differences compliment each other well, and work well together.

Vortigern wrote:After which Vortigern will take his baggage and head downstairs to claim the bottom left room of sublevel one in which to begin the construction of Circles.

"I'll leave you to it, then," says the Shadow Mage as he follows Vort to his room and sees him setting up.

Upon finishing his initial inspection, Érebos makes some notes in his personal computer about the surveillance systems installations he noted, and some strategic notes about placement of security systems.

I should really learn more about this and get competent now that Az Rael is no longer around to fill in those gaps in my understanding... he thinks to himself.

Érebos drops off his equipment and claims the room in the upper right quadrant (bordering both sets of stairs) of the same sublevel and then notices how much time has passed without Vort returning,

He walks over to the door of the room Vort is in, begins to knock, but stops himself - perhaps he is in deep concentration, and I should not disturb him... he thinks to himself, and then decides to leave a note.

Érebos' note to Vort wrote:V,

Going to the Splynn Dimensional Marketplace. Back in a few hours. Be careful if you go out alone - remember our conversation... humans are definitely the minority here, and at the 'bottom of the pack'... even ones with noble backgrounds. Will have radio if you need to contact on the usual frequency.

We should consider scoping out the 'competition' here, as it were, when we get a chance, as well.

-E

He gently slips the note under the door of Vort's circle room, taking pains not to disturb the man, and goes to his room to take what few items (including radio) he will bring along, and departs for the Splynn Dimensional Marketplace.

Vortigern begins to emerge from the room even as the note is thrust underfoot. Pausing he raises his brows toward Erebos before giving the man a nod. "I've a retinue that will serve well enough for now. And need further supplies to complete what I was setting out to do. What would you say to a trip to the market now that we are somewhat better prepared?" he says, gesturing vaguely. "Initially I need components equally immediately a priority should be our security. A trip to the slave markets seems in order. I have some ideas for a small guard force and perhaps in the same stroke some staff to make the place livable. The Gods know we need a chef." he says as he snugs his gauntlets more securely on his hands.

The elementals he gestures out of the room before he closes the door with the Circle of Protection inscribed upon it.

"I'm also of a mind to pursue a mount much like you saw me use in Center. Such a place as this could very well have one for sale. And it would lend me some gravitas while also bolstering our security. Is there anything you feel the need for acquiring immediately?" he says. Spending a few moments he pauses to discuss their plans with Erebos before making ready to depart for the market on foot. "I believe we are in need of a conveyance. And perhaps mounts. Do you have thoughts on the matter?"

I hate to say it but I feel a bit safer now.

Érebos nods. "A trip sounds like a good idea. I've been wanting to visit the Spoog slave pens since I got back to Atlantis."

All the better to exploit our enemy if we have all the knowledge of their operations.

Vortigern wrote:The elementals he gestures out of the room before he closes the door with the Circle of Protection inscribed upon it.

IF Érebos sees the circle on the door
Érebos raises an eyebrow. "Interesting... similar in design to a magic circle spell I picked up during my time with the Galactic Rogues, but yours looks to be much more involved. I may entreat upon you to do the same on the room over there, if it's not too much of a bother?" he says to the Circle Mage as he points toward the room where he had just put his gear.

"Hmm.. yes, Carbunkle was the name, if I'm not mistaken? I was wondering where your...various 'helpers' had gone. Let me see.. I think I know if a place that may be able to assist in the acquisition of one....hmm... what was it again?" he says as he furrows his brow.

"Yes... I believe I do recall... there is a vendor in the Splynn marketplace who actually specializes in felines. He may be of some assistance in procuring, or knowing where to procure, such a beast. His name is Rassa, and as I recall, he's a shrewd merchant. But he does seem to know his area. The place is called, aptly enough, Feline Cages."

He shifts for a moment.

"So, about that tour Jarnax mentioned... I'm pretty familiar with Atlantis already, but it might do some good to get the aerial view, as it's been some time... and I have no doubt you'd enjoy seeing it and learning about Atlantis. What say you we take the tour and then head to the market, unless we have to postpone the tour - in which case we could hit the marketplace first?" he says.

Vortigern nods to Erebos a few times, looking at the indicated doorway. "Ah, yes. Carbunkle and Varya served well during our fight against the demon-kind. I thought they had earned their freedom after such an ordeal and noble service. I have had other retainers since however I wanted to enter the city discreetly. Though we perhaps could have done a better job of that. And be we I mean myself, of course." he says, amusement in his tone as he listens to Erebos continue.

"Of course. I was considering, as we settle in here more, securing the entire space with more Circles. However I wanted to discuss that with you. We'll need to work out a system. Some sort of token or symbol or the like to give to our retainers so that the Circles allow them entry. Actually we could go a bit deeper than that. Have a symbol and thus we could put this on tokens of safe passage as well as having it tattooed on our retainers. That way they can't be killed by someone snatching their token away inside of the building for example. Or even just dropping it. Those of us that are company members should provide a few drops of blood for each Circle so that we don't need similar tokens or markings."

"I think the tour seems a good idea. And even just having Powerlord Jarnax show us around should confer a bit of status in the eyes of the locals. And from there we can proceed to this most interesting animal dealer you mentioned. I am intrigued."

Intrigued and piqued. No doubt things are dangerous here, yet I find I'm growing more excited than anything else. We are here and we are getting started with our enterprise. I have high hopes.

Vort and Érebos

As Vort and Érebos make their way through Splynn, they notice that they get some odd looks. It also is not hard to notice that they are in a very distinct minority among the beings walking around. While there is a dizzying variety of races wandering about Splynn, virtually none of them are human or Atlantean. Most of the locals pay you no mind, although you notice the occasional dirty look flashed your way. The closer you get to the heart of the city, the more beings there seem to be. It does not take you long to find Skyborne Excursions, the near constant stream of airships coming and going serving as a guide to your destination. When you arrive, you notice a line to sign up for a tour. Posted on a nearby wall is a poster, with rates for the various tours listed.
Skyborne Excursions wrote: Two hour tour: 40 credits per person.

Four hour tour: 100 credits per person.
Deluxe tour (6 hours): 250 credits per person
The "All-Nighter": 500 credits per person.

As you are waiting in line to for an agent, you notice a strikingly beautiful woman accompanied by a felinoid woman stepping off of a flying taxi. The felinoid woman looks familiar, although you can't exactly place where from.

Keiko and Venenifer
Your entry into Atlantis is fairly routine. The Minions check you in, and ensure you get on an air taxi. You get a fairly good view of the city as your taxi leaves the Imperial Pyramid and flies towards its destination. As you arrive at Skyborne Excursions, you notice a poster on the wall, advertising the local tours.

Venenifer and Keiko get in line, when Keiko catches the scent of an old friend. Looking around, she can see Vort standing a few beings ahead of them in line.

Active Effects

Keiko can't keep the smile off her face as she enters Splynn again. All the people, and beings, from all over the multiverse. The sights, the smells, and the slight danger all heighten the experience. Such an interesting place. I absolutely love it. And I'm with Ven too. I hope she gets as much enjoyment out of this as I do...Gods, did she get more beautiful since I last saw her? It has been a year. This form is an illusion. I do much prefer her natural form. To bad that draws way too much attention. Even so I need to follow up on any leads regarding Devon's death. Still need to find others who maybe sympathetic. Not going to be an easy find, but here is the best place to find the crazy I will need to finish this.

Keiko walks with Ven to the Skyborne Excursions line. When she catches that familiar, but very distinctly human scent, her eyes widen. "No." Keiko looks around and spots him, "No way. Ven look," Keiko elbows Ven and draws her attention to Vort, "Ven look. It's Vort. You remember him right? He still hasn't gone with anything to cover his scent. I kept telling him he needs to cover it with something." Keiko will move around the people between herself and Vort and call out to him.
"Vort! Hey, you old stick in the mud." If Vort allows it Keiko will give him a big hug, "Its been a long time, but I'm sure you still remember Ven. How have you been? I see you are still bucking for most handsome human. How has that been working for you?" Keiko giggles, "Hey, we should take a tour of the city. We can catch up there." Keiko catches sight of Erebos, "Oh, you have a stoic one with you this time enh. Five Credits I have him laughing by the end of the day."

Vort would notice while she still has the bow he has seen her with before, her axe and whip are different then the last time they were together.

Active Conditions: Metamorphosis (16 hours) | Telepathy (08m:00s)

This was only the second time the dragoness had entered Splynn, and she found the city to be as diverse and dangerous as before. Her first visit, she was but a few months old and naive to the ways of things. Now, she knew more how to play her cards in this deceptively beautiful city. Here we are. Once more I find myself in the city of Splynn; I wonder how long I will stay this time. She muses before glancing at her felinoid companion. Ah, well, so long as she remains, I suppose I will as well. I can't well abandon her the way my birthers did, especially not in this city. As gorgeous as it is, the wrong move could have you be a piece of commerce as well as a consumer... She continues her thought as she rolls her shoulders. Her metamorphosis taking place just before the transport, she can nearly feel her wings and tail even though they are no longer there. I do so prefer my natural form; though this one has its perks. Her mind wanders with a light smile as she glances around at the eyes undoubtedly on her.

Her attention is snapped back when she receives an elbow from Keiko causing her to glance down at her companion. Vort? Vort. She thinks as she nods. "Right, Vort." She says slowly, unsure at first until her eyes land on the human. One of the same humanoids who found her egg; in fact, this one was with Keiko at the time. Her lips curl into a sly smile as she recognizes the male and follows Keiko in tow. Most handsome human, eh. He's definitely a far cry ahead of most of the inhabitants in this city. Let's see his composure when he re-meets me. Her eyes then trace to the cloaked one she recognizes as the other one in the cave who melded into the shadows and her eyes narrow, though her smile never falters. Ah, this one can hide in the shadows like I can, I remember him as well. These two were kind to me when I hatched, though they undoubtedly have no idea who I am right now... She thinks to herself before she lowers her mental shield to connect with Keiko using telepathy (-4 I.S.P.) Neither of these two have seen me in this form; what say we have some fun with this for a bit? Besides, I'd rather not shout out that I'm a dragon in the middle of the market, never know who's listening.

Approaching Vortigern and Erebos with Keiko, after Keiko's brash display, Venenifer allows a large smile to cross her face as she places a hand on Keiko's shoulder. "Ah, Keiko, aren't you going to introduce me to your handsome friend?" She asks softly, but loud enough for both them to hear. When introduced, she'll lower her head slightly, still looking down on both males with her eyes narrowed and her smile light. "My name is Venenifer. It's my pleasure to make your acquaintance. Both of you." She says, the first part of her sentence aimed at the more handsome human, the second meant to include the cloaked one.

Vortigern turns and does not intervene as Keiko and Venenifer make their introductions and even hug him, responding with some bemused and friendly seeming body language. A tilt of his head here, a shifting of his weight back and forth as he looks between the two, and a half bow. Then he steps forward as he seems to recognize Keiko. "We are well met again my lady. And does it not seem charmed, fated even, that we should meet thrice, so very far removed on each such occasion? The probability would seem rather low. A gentleman might begin to wonder as to the exact nature and depth of a lady's interest in him. But rest assured, I am under no illusions, the honeyed words of women most often find fertile ground in my ears." he says, his tone growing somewhat wry and is accompanied by a self deprecating gesture with one hand towards the end.

She must have followed me, again. Adorable. I shan't complain.

Shifting his gaze to Venenifer he inclines his head slightly and offers his hand. (If his hand is accepted he makes a brief but courtly bow over Venenifer's hand.) "It is a pleasure to make the acquaintance of such a lady. If I had not been fortunate enough to receive an introduction I am quite certain I would have found myself desiring one from afar." he says, before straightening and gesturing politely towards Erebos. "Allow me to introduce my friend and companion, Magus Erebos, whom I hold in high regard. I believe that gentlewoman Keiko and you have met yes?" he says, seeming to look on as introductions proceed with mild approbation. "Ladies, we were about to tour the city, as we are both rather recently arrived and starting to, ah, put down roots you might say. You appear to be similarly inclined, as you are here. Would you be well disposed toward sharing the pleasures of your company and a tour alike with us? Perhaps a meal afterwards? It isn't everyday you run into old friends, or new ones, in such a clime as this."

Active Effects

Keiko's ears flick slightly as Ven's words hit her head. Telepathy (-4 ISP). Oh That's right. How silly of me. Indeed, lets have some fun. Keiko releases Vort and laughs at his words. She playfully taps him on the chest, "You old snake charmer. You always did have a way with words. Speaking of which I am glad to see you. I had always wondered what happened to you after we last parted ways."

Keiko will turn to Erebos, "He still dragging you around with him Erebos? How have you been getting along?" Keiko will flash Erebos a smile before looking back to Vort tapping her nose, "And when was the last time you had a bath? I caught your scent from across the plaza."

Keiko will let the introductions play out. When Vort speaks about the tour and a meal afterwards her ears perk up. "It would be our pleasure to accompany you. I can think of nothing better then a meal with friends after a tour of this amazing place. As you say running into friends in a place like this is rare and we, well, we must celebrate." Keiko will wrap her arm around Vort's, "Please lead the way."

[Rolls Held]

"You introduced your friend, but not yourself? My friend here called you Vort; a pet name I imagine. I do so fancy pet names, you may call me Ven." She says with a sly grin and turns to the Magus Erebos with a smile "A pleasure to meet you, Magus Erebos. I wonder, what art do you practice?" She asks of the cloaked one amid the line. He forgot to tell me his name, is he that awestruck by me? Ven speaks telepathically to Keiko, hoping her colored tone of jest comes across well enough.

She glances at the offer of a tour and the mention of roots and clasps her hands together, "Dinner and a tour sounds absolutely delightful! We'll talk more about those roots over our meal." She adds, a playful smile never leaving her face as Keiko wraps her arm around Vort. Standing slightly to the side of Vort and Erebos, she affirms, "Yes, do please lead the way."

Perception: 1d100 = 29/59%

Three hour tour: 100 credits per person.
Four hour tour: 100 credits per person.

As you are waiting in line to for an agent, you notice a strikingly beautiful woman accompanied by a felinoid woman stepping off of a flying taxi. The felinoid woman looks familiar, although you can't exactly place where from.

The Shadow Mage is covered, as per his usual dress, in dark charcoal (nearly black) clothing. His hood shades his relatively pale (for a True Atlantean) face, and even under it, he has sunglasses on.

Damnable sunlight... he thinks, fidgeting uncomfortably in the bright glare and scowling at it.

Eyeing the poster, he asks Vort: "So, which of these tours would you prefer we embark upon? It looks like the three hour and four hour versions are the same cost - rather odd, but okay. Perhaps the 'deluxe' is more your style? Atlantis is, after all, a pretty big place..."

Érebos trails off as he sees the two women and recognizes the felinoid... though he isn't sure from where.

Keiko wrote:"Vort!

Ahh, yes... Keiko. It has been some time... Érebos thinks to himself.

He manages a slight smile at Keiko's wager.

"Now, Keiko - you should know better. Laughing? From me? The veritable 'ray of sunshine' himself?" The Shadow Mage gives a reproachful look before winking, obviously jesting with the felinoid.

Speaking of sunshine... he thinks, scowling on the inside even as he is pleasant on the exterior.

Érebos nods politely and looks up at Venenifer, trying not to wince (since she is taller, and tilting his head up lets more sunlight on his face) and replies: "The pleasure is ours, lady."

While polite, the Shadow Mage is still calculating on the inside... sizing up the stranger, and wondering if there's an 'angle' behind the charm and stunningly good looks. His training has hardened him to the effects of beautiful women so, while he can still appreciate them, they don't have the same overwhelmingly powerful effect upon him that they might upon other men. Still, this one is very "easy on the eyes", and the Sunaj wonders what her business in Splynn is (and with Keiko).

Vortigern wrote:"Ladies, we were about to tour the city, as we are both rather recently arrived and starting to, ah, put down roots you might say. He has always been more trusting than I... yet, Keiko is a friend, so perhaps I should just trust their judgement... thinks the Shadow Mage.

His outside still (relatively) pleasant, Érebos has always been adept at keeping his emotions hidden and buried deep within. Not quite suspicious, yet always cautious, he appears to be more at ease than he really is. Perhaps it is the Sunaj training, or his own background of loss, but the Shadow Mage does not trust strangers easily - or quickly.

Érebos will suppress a snort at Keiko's comment about the bath. Nice one. Always liked Keiko's sense of humor.. and she almost made good on her wager he thinks, easing up a bit.

"Oh, we get along fabulously, of course. Sir Vortigern and I are, despite being from entirely different worlds, cut from the same cloth in many ways," he says, briefly clapping his friend on the shoulder.

If he were a True Atlantean, one might wonder how that fact could alter things... muses the Aerihman.

Érebos looks at the beautiful woman as she asks the question, and responds in a neutral tone: "Alas, it is an art that is thought forgotten and lost... and, for all intents and purposes, practically is. I am a student of the magical arts in general, though my focus is on-"- here he pauses, and looks around a little, before leaning in and lowering his voice - "-let's just say it's not considered a pursuit that is widely accepted or condoned in most places."

He then cocks his head at Venenifer, her question piquing his curiosity. I wonder....

"And yourself, Ms. Ven... are you a practitioner of the mystic arts?" asks the Shadow Mage, his keen eyes hidden behind his shades as he probes the woman's face and body language for clues.

He turns to the ladies: "Did you ladies want a relatively short tour, or were you thinking the longer, 'deluxe' version might be more your fancy?" He begins to head toward shelter to get out of the glare of the sun.

There's something about that woman... he thinks about Ven - unable to put his finger on it, but recognizing the gnawing in the back of his mind.

Splynn
Friday, June 9th, 1205

The line moves forward as everyone greets each other introduces themselves. Your reunion doesn't even make much of a commotion. It doesn't take but few minutes, and you find yourselves at the head of the line. Most of the travel agents are Rulian Translators, and the one you end up in front of is no different. Dressed rather nicely, for what you presume is a slave, he gives you a big smile "Welcome to Skyborne Excursions. We have a variety of tours leaving soon. We have a two hour and four hour tour leaving in ten minutes, a six hour tour leaving in thirty minutes, and I think we may have enough seats on our 'All Nighter" leaving in just under an hour. We are also making arrangements for a 4 day cruise of Atlantis, if you are interested. It looks like there are four of you, so sadly I cannot offer our group rate. Do you have questions about the tours I could answer to help ensure you have the right tour for your needs?" He seems rather cheerful, and genuinely interested in helping you.

What do you do?

Perception: 1d100 = 100/33

JIC/Magic: 1d20+7 = 21
JIC/Psionic: 1d20+5 = 19
JIC/Horror: 1d20+8 = 19

This is precisely why I want some of these on staff myself.

Vortigern gives the Rulian a look of mild interest. "My thanks to you sir. I am interested in the Deluxe Tour. However first can you tell me if the staff of any of the tours is perhaps more, or perhaps less, well inclined to humanoids? We would like to ensure we receive the most positive experience you have available this evening." he says, lowering his voice and stepping a bit closer as he continues, to give the Rulian a chance to hear him while being discreet as to his subject material. "We are new to the city and desire to get more familiar with things. And perhaps to make some new acquaintances. Mayhap you can suggest the right tour? Or something else as well?" he says, gesturing vaguely yet reassuringly to the Rulian attendant.

Vortigern will attempt to book the longest available tour, up to the Deluxe, with most amenable staff.

Good old Erebos. Never comfortable in the sun. Keiko then sends a telepathic message to Ven, So I'm thinking the 4 hour tour would be good. I am going to recommend as much. Should give us time to catch up. And see if they can guess at who you are.

Keiko calls after Erebos, "I'm actually surprised you're not a pile of ash yet. You've been in the sun for what about twenty minutes? Don't forget your sunscreen."
Keiko still hanging on Vort's arm turns back to him. "What do you say about doing the four hour tour. Four hour tour. Wow say the five times fast. Talk about a tongue twister. Should give us plenty of time to catch up." Keiko then turns to the receptionist in her slightly over bubbly tone, "How private are these tours? Do they have private areas or rooms?"

When Vort mentions the Deluxe tour Keiko ears twitch and she becomes visibly giddy, "Oh Vort, you really do like the finer things. I see that has not changed. Six hours, Is there a meal provided during this tour?"

JiC: 1d100 = 82 / 1d20 = 2
Perception [45%]: 1d100 = 87
Invoke Trust/Intimidation [65%]: 1d100 = 18 (Combination of Intimidation and Charm towards the attendant to book us the best possible tour guide and the like)
Charm/Impress [90%]: 1d100 = 75 (Combination of Intimidation and Charm towards the attendant to book us the best possible tour guide and the like)

Ven responds with a nod as her eyes seem to glisten towards Erebos at his question. "You could consider me a practitioner, yes. I consider magic in all its forms to be rather intoxicating. I should love to hear about your art should we have the time on or after this tour. " She responds and glances towards Vortigern at Erebos's statement. "The Deluxe sounds perfect."

When they arrive at the head of the line and are greeted by the slave, she wrinkles her nose briefly and smiles as he explains. I wonder where the masters are. She muses as Vortigern answers the attendant. When Vortigern makes mention of being friendly towards humanoids, she can't help but release a light and brief laugh and while leaning over Vortigern's side, adds, "Yes, that would be nice; or they'd see how different we could be from humanoids." She says with a smile that appears sincere though her eyes narrow like a true predator's would.

When she hears Keiko mental connection she responds in kind. I agree. I'm having fun with it, feel free to drop hints. I'll tell them once where all away from prying ears anyways. She then looks back to Keiko and offers a small laugh at the reference to sunscreen. "Yes, the sun has never been my favorite; I've always been more fond of shadows myself; much easier to meld with. Though, I enjoy the finer things myself, and a high degree of privacy." She adds.

Skyborne Excursions, Splynn
Friday, June 9th, 1205

As Vortigern lists out some specifics of what he is looking for on a tour, the Rulian makes a few non-committal responses. After he is done, the Rulian holds a hand up for a moment, and types something in on a computer. "Well sir, I can assure you all of our tours are done at the very highest quality. There is no discrimination involved by our staff. We do make arrangements to keep obvious conflicts down, but all of our guides are consummate professionals. The shorter tours are mostly to get acquainted with the city and its highlights. The Deluxe Tour is a bit more social, and comes with snacks and drinks. It also includes some of the more famous shops in the Market, with time to do some shopping. If socializing is your goal, I would have to recommend the 'All Nighter'. It is a comprehensive tour of Splynn and the Dimensional Market, along with a full course meal and entertainment." He pauses, and looks around at the group, "The Deluxe tour would be 250 credits each, and the 'All Nighter' would be 500 credits each. You have a few moments to decide, and I would be happy to answer any questions you may have about either one."

The Rulian waits patiently while Keiko and Venenifer weigh in with their thoughts, and as scary and charming as Ven seems to be, he seems rather unfazed by her actions. "Considering the eclectic nature of your group, I can assure you any of the tours will be to your satisfaction. Unless of course you would be interested in an island cruise? We have a four day one that starts tomorrow morning, I am sure you might also find that to your liking. Is there any more information you need, or are you ready to select a tour?"

Perception: 1d100 = 66/59%

JIC (100): 1d100 = 94
JIC (20): 1d20 = 8

Conditions (at the end of this post; time format= minutes:seconds): None

Keiko wrote:Keiko calls after Erebos, "I'm actually surprised you're not a pile of ash yet. You've been in the sun for what about twenty minutes? Don't forget your sunscreen."

The Shadow Mage smirks. "You know the old saying, Keiko - I never leave home without it!" he replies, flashing a wink before stealthily muttering something to cast Aura of Darkness discreetly (-3PPE).

"I trust this will suffice?" he asks from his dark and comforting blanket of obscurity, making sure Keiko sees him before he subsequently drops the spell.

Keiko wrote:Keiko then turns to the receptionist in her slightly over bubbly tone, "How private are these tours? Do they have private areas or rooms?"

"I'm sure private dances are available for an additional fee, Keiko, but you know nothing special goes on in those private champagne rooms, right? Right?" says the Sunaj to his felinoid friend with a sly grin.

Venenifer wrote:Ven responds with a nod as her eyes seem to glisten towards Erebos at his question. "You could consider me a practitioner, yes. I consider magic in all its forms to be rather intoxicating. I should love to hear about your art should we have the time on or after this tour. "

"Indeed. Interesting perspective," replies the cautious True Atlantean.

Okay... she lingered just a little too long on that... "all its forms"... I suspect she's not what she appears to be... he thinks, still trying to figure out to whom he's actually speaking.

Venenifer wrote:When Vortigern makes mention of being friendly towards humanoids, she can't help but release a light and brief laugh and while leaning over Vortigern's side, adds, "Yes, that would be nice; or they'd see how different we could be from humanoids." Perception reinforced... she's almost certainly not whom she appears to be... he thinks after hearing and seeing Ven's reply and body language.

Venenifer wrote:"Yes, the sun has never been my favorite; I've always been more fond of shadows myself; much easier to meld with. Though, I enjoy the finer things myself, and a high degree of privacy." She adds.

"It would seem we have more in common than was apparent a few moments ago, then, Lady Ven. Darkness is an old friend to me."

And possibly you too... he thinks, intrigued by the hints this "person" is dropping.

"Excuse us for just a moment please," says the Shadow Mage as he leans in to whisper in Vort's ear. "All depends on how social you want to get, my friend. We can have some exposure with the Deluxe, but if you want to go all out, that's an option too..." he whispers briefly, before adding, "and if we're going to start up this business and get clientele, it might be worth the investment to do the longer trip."

He backs away then, and waits for Vort to make the call.

Ven nods in satisfaction at the clerk's response and glances to Vortigern to see if he has a decision in mind before hearing Erebos addressing Keiko behind her. Ven glances at Erebos as he cloaks in his aura of darkness and a small smile crosses her lips as she remembers when they all first met, he did the same thing there as well. Good to know old habits die hard. She thinks as he jests with Keiko.

When he addresses her from his shadowy haze, she nods. "That we do, Magus Erebos. I've a certain degree of Nyctophilia, and find myself quite at home when surrounded by shadows. Plus, it is in the darkness when others reveal who they really are, especially when it is not by choice. " She says with a sly grin, she'll then connect to Keiko. Erebos might be figuring it out faster than good sir Vortigern, but I am dropping enough hints.

Having excellent hearing of a dragon, she perks and glances as Erebos pulls Vortigern aside and will lean in and whisper to the both of them. "Either is fine by me, the longer trip would certainly provide us time to become reintroduced." She adds and then steps back and leans back, towards Keiko while waiting for Vortigern to make a choice.

Being rather keenly observant (ooc: good perception roll), Érebos notices Ven's smile out of the corner of his eye when he casts his spell. Furthermore, her comments about her attraction to darkness and shadow intrigue him even more.

Even her voice sounds eerily familiar... why can't I place it...? he wonders.

"Once more, I find myself agreeing with your assessment. And, please, Lady Ven, Érebos is fine. My friend here is far more attached to his titles than I am to any he might graciously bestow upon me," he says, smiling as he verbally ribs Sir Vortigern a bit.

"RE-introduced"? Okay, you're definitely not what, or whom, you appear to be... he thinks as Ven reveals her superhuman hearing abilities and uses the word "reintroduced".

Then, the sudden thought occurs to him. What if...

Wait a minute... could it... nooooo ... but what if... the hatchling? He begins the mental checklist his study of Creatures of Magic has taught him.

They can metamorph, after all... and Royal Frilled dragons have an affinity for shadows and darkness... he thinks as the possibility strikes him.

He keeps it to himself, for now, but the realization that this "Ven" could be the hatchling they found some 20 months ago grows in his mind as he replays the scene in his head when they found the egg.

She seems to be tight with Keiko too... is our furry friend holding out on us? he thinks as the gears turn in his mind.

Vortigern observes the exchanges with some amusement in his manner before giving a nod to the attendant. "I believe we should like the All Night Tour then. And I might take you up on the island cruise at another date, though not now. An hour or so until the Tour is ready then? Is there a waiting area we should move to?" he says as he uses his secure card to pay with unhurried motions. "A pleasure to have you ladies with us." he says as he turns to give the group his full attention once all matters with the tours and the attendant are resolved.

It still amazes me how people can think some stored numbers on a magic slate are somehow worth more than gold in your hand. The power of a Crown ordering something to be so should never be underestimated. Even the absurd is possible it appears.

Vortigern looks towards Vennenifer closely, letting his eyes linger and roam both. "I feel certain I would remember such a lady if I made her acquaintance. And yet it seems clear the lady remembers me? Mmm. These moments are always awkward but at least there are no babes in tow." he says with mock severity. "Unless they have been left at home?" he says, humor seeping into his tone as he pats Keiko's arm entwined in his. "Now then, as I mentioned, Magus Erebos and I have undertaken to begin a new enterprise here. Perhaps we shall discuss that more in due course. May I inquire then what brings you ladies here? Adventure? Profit? Irresistible masculine charm? Ah, it must be all three I am sure."

Skyborne Excursions, Splynn
Friday, June 9th, 1207

The Rulian has a slightly amused look on his face at the conversation going on. When Vortigern finally lets him know what tour they will book, he smiles. "Excellent choice sir. It is a fabulous way to get to the know the highlights of the city. He takes a moment to swipe Vort's card, then hands it back to him. "As for a place to wait, we have actually begun the boarding for the Line Runner already. Boarding early will give you time to acquaint yourself with the ship, as well as freshen up in one of the guest cabins. I will have one of the slaves escort you to the ship. With that he makes a motion, and a handsome (for the species) ogre covered in tattoos comes forward.

He looks at the Rulian, who whispers something quietly to the ogre, who gives a nod and says "Yes Master" and then gives a short bow to the group. "If you would follow me, I will lead you to the vessel." Following him he leads you towards a stairwell on the side of the room, and up about 3 flights of stairs. They open out onto a crowded terrace, filled with all manner of beings, and gangplanks to eight different ships of various sizes. "If you will follow me please, the Line Runner is this way." He leads you to a gangplank that extends out to a ship that is vaguely reminiscent of a dirigible, although you can see where it has large clear windows sit into what would be the airbag if it was not powered by magic. The ogre stops at the gangplank, and motions you onto the ship. "Enjoy your tour"

Stepping onto the Line Runner shows exactly how well the tourism business in Splynn is, as all the furnishings are in precious metals, either gold or palladium. Stationed about the entry room are four almost unnaturally attractive humans, wearing very revealing clothing and covered in tattoos. Vortigern pauses for a moment as they board the Line Runner and then inclines his head towards the Entertainment Deck. Patting Keiko's hand, the one still entwined around his arm, he smiles. "There is for me. However if the ladies would like to freshen up a bit, I wouldn't mind at all. By all means." he says, giving Erebos an inquiring look. "Give the ladies a few moments in the powder room. Perhaps we can send a servant for some bourbon while we wait." he says, before disentangling himself from Keiko and starting to look around for a likely seeming attendant.

I haven't had a good bourbon in too long a span. A gentlemanly refreshment to be sure.

Vort wrote:"Now then, as I mentioned, Magus Erebos and I have undertaken to begin a new enterprise here. Perhaps we shall discuss that more in due course. May I inquire then what brings you ladies here? Adventure? Profit? Irresistible masculine charm? Ah, it must be all three I am sure."

Keiko playfully pats Vort's arm, "Oh Vort you really are incorrigible." Keiko presses her head against his shoulder to whisper into his ear with less joy and more seriousness, "Our reasons would be better suited for a discussion in a more secure area, that we have control over."
Keiko looks back to Ven and sends another mental message, I think you're right. Either that or Vort just doesn't see the mystery as something to think about for now. He may bring it up when we are in a more private setting.

Keiko looks around as they board the ship. Wow. Lots of money here. Very nice craft...Devon would have loved this... Keiko's ears droop for the briefest of moments as her mind slips for a moment. With the moment past in an instant Keiko untangles her arm from Vort's, "What a splendid idea we will be but a moment. Oh Vort? Would you mind having a brandy ordered for me. A good one, with a single chilling stone in it, please." Keiko nods towards Ven and moves with Ven to freshen up.

Ven nods, "Erebos it is, and same to you. Just Ven is fine." She responds in kind. When Vortigern mentions the awkwardness of not remembering having met, she allows herself a light laugh. Ah, this is more enjoyable than I had thought it'd be! And looks to Vortigern, placing a light hand on his shoulder. "Fear not, we've not crossed paths in the bedchambers, and no, there are no children in tow." She responds in jest and then looks to Keiko as she answers Vortigern on their reason for being there. Ven then nods, making eye contact with Vortigern and her playful demeanor shifts to a serious gaze while Keiko speaks quietly.

Following the group to the Entertainment Deck, she smiles at the prospect of liquor, thinking; I've never understood the joy of dulling the senses, maybe it's due to an underwhelming effect on my kind... she muses. She'll add in a normal tone, "I wouldn't mind a glass myself; some of the strong stuff." She smiles then takes Keiko's arm as they move away.

The Entertainment deck looks to span the entire upper deck of the airship (roughly 40'x80', with a 20' ceiling.) You notice the sides have tables spaced out about every 15 feet, and on the right hand side there is what looks to be a bar that runs half the length of the room. There are several windows on the sides, and the entire roof is one giant skylight. You notice there are three more tattooed beings in the room, and other than a bartender there is no other staff. The room itself seems to be empty except for the members of your group and the staff. Heading to the bar, the bartender takes your drink orders and fills them quickly.

Perception: 1d100 = 44/59%

JIC (100): 1d100 = 19
JIC (20): 1d20 = 10

Conditions (at the end of this post; time format= minutes:seconds): None

The crew members are dressed in something reminiscent of a sailors uniform, and move about with a purpose. The room the gangplank opens into is about 20'x20', and is obviously for onboarding and offboarding passengers. There are three exits, each clearly labeled. One leads to the guest cabins, one to the Observation Deck, and one to the "Entertainment Deck".

What do you do?

Outwardly, Érebos makes a point to appear to just be enjoying the tour and learning about the ship. Covertly, however, the Shadow Mage's eyes are already working, and his keen observational skills are feeding potential surveillance locations to his mind as he sizes up the vessel they are on. He inspects every nook and cranny he can see, visually, making mental notes about what could or could not be a potential hidden camera, and so on.

Surveillance (check for potential surveillance spots/devices) -->1d100 = 21 /57%

Érebos nods and manages a smile. "Of course. Bourbon doesn't sound too bad... provided it's just bourbon," he says, winking at Vort.

Hold the Rashad this time... he thinks as he remembers his first "toast" with Vort.

Venenifer wrote:Ven nods, "Erebos it is, and same to you. Just Ven is fine." She responds in kind.

"Very well, Ven then. So how did you two meet?" he then asks both ladies at the same time, trying to read their body language for any hints of discomfort or anxiety.

One wonders if they worked out any "stories" in advance?

"Be careful when saying that to Sir Vortigern... his idea of strong can be rather... overwhelming, I should say," calls the Shadow Mage after Ven as she moves away as he glances back at Vort and winks. He waits until he's sure Ven and Keiko are well out of earshot, and then leans into Vort and speaks in a very low voice. "So, about that Rashad infused wine... do you know the recipe, perchance?" he asks Sir Vortigern with a mischievous twinkle in his eyes.

Érebos frowns at the skylight and sighs internally. Well, it is for a tour, after all, so I suppose it can't really be avoided. Still... the less time we spend on this deck, the better, as far as I'm concerned - at least until the evening.

"One wonders what kind of customers might be on this tour, my friend," he says to Sir Vortigern casually. "Do we even have any idea what sort of clientele we're trying to attract? Do we even have an 'elevator pitch' yet?" he muses.

Does he even know what an 'elevator pitch' is? wonders the Sunaj absently. I suppose he does; after all, Center and The Wrong Ship had elevators, after all...

"Well now that is a story...A dull one punctuated by a few moments of excitement followed by a moment of pure joy and awe." Keiko almost squeaks out the last part of the sentence. Nothing in her demeanor would indicate that this was an unexpected question. "Now if you will excuse us. We will be right back."

Once they make it to the powder room Keiko will begin softly giggling. "That was fun. But I think we should tell them. Erebos already knows and it's only fun if we could get him on board, which is not very likely. I also think we should talk with them about this venture they are starting. I think it would be good for us to have something to do. And having friends here is never a bad thing."

When Keiko and Ven return, Keiko accepts her glass from the bartender. After a sip and nod of her head at the quality of the brandy, Keiko tries to locate a fairly isolated booth or table where they can speak undisturbed. If she see's a spot she will turn to Vort, "Oh, there looks like a good spot. Why don't we continue our conversation there?"

When they are alone and Keiko speaks, Ven lightly sighs and nods; her tone falling more serious now. "I agree. I like being playful but the ruse is getting tiring, especially with such important things to discuss. Now that we're out of the public, I don't mind telling them who I am, as much fun as it would be to surprise them." She says, her lips wrapping to a sly smile.

When the two return, she notices how empty the room is and her eyes narrow as she smiles. Excellent, a degree of privacy or, at the least, isolation for the moment. She muses as Keiko points out an empty area to sit. She'll take her drink and move to the table.

She'll take a seat and sit far more casually as she looks at Vortigern and Erebos with her head slightly tilted and a light grin. Taking a sip of her drink without really removing her eyes from the pair of men, she places the drink on the table and speaks softly, at a comfortable indoor voice. "Vortigern, Erebos. As fun as it has been, I feel the need to disclose a secret. We have met before." She glances to Keiko before looking to the others. "Truth be told, we met at the same time that I met Keiko." She says with a smile, taking another light drink. I'm curious how they'll react to that. She mentally comments to Keiko, her smile growing slightly more sly as she watches the two men.

"Of course. Looking forward to hearing the story," he says as a smile begins to creep up his lips.

Even if you do make one up together while you 'freshen up'...

She mentions playfully, her demeanor easily read as comfortable and possibly mischievous, and leaves with Keiko.

The Shadow Mage nods while carefully keeping a straight face as he notices Ven's careful choice of words.

Quite clever word play... he thinks approvingly, and decides to play along a bit.

"Oh I imagine that, once the smoke cleared, you two hatched the wonderful friendship you share now, hmm?" he says with a twinkle in his eyes.

You don't say... thinks the Shadow Mage, as he feigns surprise. "Oh? While I admit my memory is not flawless, I'm as sure as sure can be that our friend, Sir Vortigern, would never forget such a strikingly good looking woman he had met previously... isn't that right, Sir Vortigern?" he says, passing the proverbial ball over to the Circle Mage's court.

This social banter, as it were, is more fun that I had suspected... he thinks, relishing the practice of the social skills he so recently acquired.

Towards Venenifer, after she explains the things they have not done together, he splays his hands in a self deprecating fashion. Tilting his head slightly as if confused by something he speaks in a tone of mock seriousness. "Ah? No? Then I feel quite remiss. Such an obvious lack on my part makes me question my judgment. I shall endeavor not to allow you to slip through my fingers this time. Such a beauty should never be neglected." he says before giving her a half bow as the women depart. A hint of courtliness is in his bearing until she departs and before he turns to Erebos once they are unaccompanied.

Bemusedly he smiles and rolls one of his wrists, flexing before adjusting the gauntlet that rests over it. A brief gesture as he steps to get the attention of the bartender, and then he orders chilled glasses of whiskey for each. "Recipe? I am no vintner my friend. But we can find more if it please you. Or do you have something else in mind?" he says, before the conversation continues to other things. "Clients? Mmm. Of course. We are offering services and intelligence of substantially limited availability. And with no small risk involved, depending on the contracts and locations. The compensation must be commensurate to all of this and that means, in a word, substantial. It is hardly every company that can offer what we intend to bring to the table as it were. And that also limits our potential clients for now to patrons of means. We might take on clients more for their connections or some other consideration later. But for now in first building this enterprise we need to establish a solid base of income. Before growing into the rest later. So we need clients of sufficient means who can afford and have need of our very particular services. And that means, far more than not, ingratiating ourselves to the powers that be here." he says, his voice in soft and gentle tones that carry far less than a whisper. "As for the elevator pitch, I am open to suggestions. We know what we want to do. How to express it concisely is a different matter."

This is indeed something I need to devote some thought to. A shrewd pitch can make all the difference, in the right ear, at the right time.

When the ladies return, assuming the drinks are ready by then, he proffers the drinks to everyone and raises his glass in toast. "To friends and perhaps more." he says. When Venenifer mentions they met before at the same time as Keiko his expression becomes somewhat thoughtful. He nods his acceptance of the indicated out of the way table following and sitting with the others. Quietly he sips his bourbon and watches the interplay of the others until Erebos mentions the efficacy of his memory. "I would like to think the same. A gentleman never forgets a genuinely special lady." he says, some mirth in his eyes before he turns his attention back to Keiko and Venenifer in turn. "I'm pleased we have all met again under such fortuitous circumstances. Perhaps, if the Gods favor, it indicates our coming fortune." he says, before raising his cup to toast once again. "To fortune, shared with friends." he says.

You find a table far enough away from the bar that you can have a quiet conversation, but close enough to order drinks if you desire. Much like the bar, the table and chairs are made out of some dark exotic wood. The alcohol is is a fairly high quality, good enough to be considered top shelf in a normal bar. It makes you wonder exactly what else the bar might be hiding.

The crew seem inclined to give you your privacy, although you notice a couple of what you presume are passengers stick a head in to look around then vanish. Then, what is either a very large man or a very small giant comes onto the deck, with what you are certain is demon of some form with him. They seem to be in a deep discussion about something, although that ends when they get to the bar and order drinks.

What do you do?

Vortigern wrote:"To friends and perhaps more." ... "I would like to think the same. A gentleman never forgets a genuinely special lady."

Ven smiles as she watches the two curiously try to determine what she means, shaking her head in a playful manner she holds up her hand to have them pause and nods. "I've grown fond of this form, to be sure. How you met me was more... natural." She says with a slight roll on her lips as she takes a drink. "Keiko here still has the stone I left behind when I left after you three found me." She'll nod to Keiko, "Show them the stone, please. she mentally asks her to reveal the stone that has the words 'Keep this stone. I will find you again.' inscribed on it in Dragonese. It was good they weren't there to claim me as some prize, for now they may well become allies. She muses amid a smile while taking a drink. "Hopefully now you can recognize me. I've learned much since then, and am glad to have found you again. " She adds looking towards the two men.

Vortigern wrote:"To fortune, shared with friends."

She raises her glass and nods. "To fortune indeed!"

She'll glance down the way when the large man or small giant enters with a demon. A pet, or an ally... or a slave... she ponders while gazing at them from a distance. "More come to join the tour, it seems." She says softly among the table, nodding her head towards the duo.

Keiko giggles as she pulls out the stone to show the group. "Come now Vort. All the time we spent on that mountain top. You don't remember Ven? She didn't even change her name. Or her personality." Keiko returns the stone to her bag and playfully elbows Vort, "Or maybe you just over come with her beauty you forgot about the beauty her natural form holds." Keiko winks at Ven.

Keiko raises her glass as well, "To fortune and friends. May we be rich with both for many years to come."

Keiko takes note of the two new comers to the bar. Keiko notes they seem to be into their own business. Keiko keeps an ear out to make sure she is aware if they begin to move towards the group.

Keiko loooks to Vort, "I am interested to hear about this venture you are creating. Ven found me while I was looking for her. Right now..." Keiko losses a little of her jovial attitude and her tone changes, "I've been feeling a little lost lately. While none of you met my husband, you've heard me talk about him. He was one of the reasons we were able to meet the first time. That silly mountain." Keiko takes a deep breath, "Devon was killed last month. I have run out of leads to pursue. I found Ven and we came here to possibly cultivate new leads. However I think that joining forces with you, for myself at least, I could find some satisfaction in familiar work for a while." Keiko drains the rest of her drink, the smile returning to her face. "Well...If you'll have us."

Satisfied there are no observed surveillance cameras or other devices in place, Érebos relaxes - somewhat.

After they get their drinks, the large man and the demon move to a table across the room for the group, and quietly resume talking. Other than a brief nod they seem to be ignoring you. You notice a few others who you assume are passengers step into the room and look around, and then leave. The staff continues to prepare for the tour, although the bartender makes sure your drinks stay filled if you want them.

After a few minutes to catch up and discuss things, one of the tattooed employee's come through the entryway to the room and announces "We will be leaving in 15 minutes. The Observation deck is typically the best way to enjoy the tour when we launch."

Vortigern smiles towards Venenifer, inclining his head slightly, before steepling his hands before him on the table. "Truly a pleasure to make your acquaintance once again. And in particular under such amicable circumstances." he says, the production of the stone not seeming to cause a great deal of reaction in him though he does seem to acknowledge it. "I look forward to getting to know you better." he says before turning to Keiko. A look of amusement passes over his features as she speaks. Her eager joining him in his toasts draws a smile. "Just because I do not speak of a thing does not mean I have not considered it. My homeland is a place where one is best to keep possibilities to ones self and only speak as to certainties." he says, chuckling softly.
Then Keiko continues into less pleasant matters, and his bearing changes a bit. "Mmm. My condolences for your loss as well. He seems to have been a rather remarkable individual." he says, folding his hands down on the table before him. "Perhaps, ah, it is untoward for a widow to be referring to a gentleman by a diminutive. One might receive the wrong impression as to our relations." he says before pausing, leaning back in his seat a bit as he clearly is considering something. "Though as to the rest, I am pleased you are interested. Here is the pitch that we were just discussing that describes things rather concisely." he says, before sharing a view of the description written by Erebos.

Pitch Statement
There are innumerable dimensions and worlds in the Megaverse, all connected via interdimensional doorways and rifts. Most individuals care about security and peace of mind, and don't want unknown things - however that is defined - coming uninvited through these portals. After giving the ladies a moment to read he returns the display surface to Erebos. "If this sounds like an enterprise that would interest either of you, I would be quite amenable to discussing terms. And the degree to which you desire to be involved or affiliated, as it were. What do you have in mind?" he says, looking between the two for a moment to gauge reactions. He is distracted momentarily as the large fellow and his demon accompaniment enter the room, yet this appears to last only a few seconds.

The Shadow Mage inquisitively looks the man/demon pair over.

A Rakshasha demon... one wonders whom is the master of whom? he thinks. I don't know how Sir Vortigern and other summoners - or shifters - keep these beings under their whim. Perhaps I should learn more about it... when time permits... he thinks.

Turning back to the discussion at hand, he adds: "One of the reasons we are here is to mingle with some of the prospects and spark some interest in our enterprise. We would be interested in seeing what you two bring to the table."

The True Atlantean alternates between watching the pair at their table and the demon/man pair at the other.

Keiko finishes reading the pitch statement, and smiles back at Vort. "That's a hell of a pitch. Sounds like the jobs will be fun. If we can get interest in it. I don't see why you wouldn't. Lots of people out there who want to fix things or keep some deniability." Keiko presses her fingers together before looking at Vort over top of them, "I would say I would like to to be fully involved. We have seen eachother in varying capacities before, so we know what we can do. So I am willing to fully commit to this endeavor for an even split of the rewards."

Keiko gives Vort a wink and turns to address Erebos, "You should know what we bring to the table. Unless time played with your mind...oh...that might have been my fault. Time just never seems to work right around me." Keiko gives a playful smile. Keiko is very away how unwelcome her abilities are here in Splynn.

Keiko looks to Ven, "What do ya say? Think we can liven up their jobs?"

A Raksasha? Here? That is... most curious. From what I remember, they are among the rarest and powerful demons in all of Hades. I wonder if that mortal knows with whom he is associating. She muses silently, a slight smile growing on her lips as she thinks of the pleasure the Raksasha must be having at toying with other mortals. That mortal may well end up being dinner for that demon by the end of the night; they have the most precarious taste buds. She thinks with a soft roll of her eyes as she takes a drink of her drink. Much like this... drink. It tastes well enough, but beyond a fleeting moment of pleasure, is nothing.

She's brought back from her thoughts as the Raksasha and large mortal move towards their own table, she shakes her head and looks back toward Vortigern. "Yes, I think we'll be able to have a much better time than when we all first met." She says with a sly smile, tilting her head, letting her hair roll to her right shoulder. She looks over the pitch with a nod.

"Well, color me interested, Vortigern." She says with fanciful smile before looking to Keiko. "Oh, absolutely. I've no problems with, ahhem, spreading my wings for the cause." She looks back to Vort and Erebos with a narrowed set of eyes and a continued sly smile before adding, "I've grown considerably since our last encounter, and in more ways than one." She adds as the concierge enters to announce the departure, she'll take her drink and stand.

"Come, walk with me to the observation deck, we must find a good view. And we mustn't miss the skyline departure, and we've all night to iron things out." She finishes and takes Keiko's arm, beckoning the two men to follow her to the Observation Deck.

She'll look to the concierge with a smile that never leaves the dragoness's face, "Tell me, good man, where could our group of four find the best spot on the Observation Deck?" She asks playfully. [Charm/Impress 90%]: 1d100 = 36]

Skyborne Excursions, Splynn
Friday, June 9th, 1250

The demon's companion lets out a deep basso laugh at something the raksasha said, then says in a deep basso voice "Come let us go find a place on the Observation Deck" They head out the door and out of sight.

The man smiles at Venenifer, "There are no bad places on the Observation Deck. You will understand when you get down to it. I would imagine this close to the beginning of things, it will be filling up however, so you may wish to make your way down to it."

Keiko smiles as Ven takes her arm. "Of course. We must see the city as we depart." I wonder if the demon heard our conversation? Likely not. Even if it did we spoke of nothing of consequence. There will likely be more and other types of beings on this tour. Should be interesting. I can't wait to see all the different people. I have missed that since I stopped traveling as much.
Keiko's smile grows as she senses Erebos discomfort in the sun. "Have no fear my friend. I believe the sun is above us and the observation deck is below us. I have full faith you'll be able to find a shadow or two." Keiko, with brandy and Ven in hand, will make her way down to the observation deck. Looking to find a good spot for the four of them to sit...or stand...depending on the deck.

JiC: 1d100 = 12 / 1d20 = 6
Perception [60%]: 1d100 = 56
Lore, Magic [65%]: 1d100 = 20 (Try to determine the type of magical art Erebos uses as to his aversion to the sunlight.)

Active Abilities: Enhanced Perception [20 minutes]

As Ven hears the mortal and demon move off, she tilts her head. Or friends. Curious. This one is most curious. She thinks to herself and activates her Enhanced Perception to watch them, as well as observe everything far more acutely on the Observation Deck.

Ven places her hand on his shoulder and smiles. "Thank you. I look forward to seeing this spectacle." She responds to the man before moving away.

Hearing Keiko mention Erebos's distaste for the sunlight, she laughs, covering her mouth with her hand and nodding. "I could fill the whole deck with a nice black smoke." She says playfully towards Erebos before beckoning him and Vortigern to follow her and Keiko down to the Observation Deck. Such a curious specimen, I wonder where his distaste for the sunlight comes from.

Once there, she'll find a corner that isn't overly crowded yet with an equally good view and near the Raksasha and motion the men to follow her and Keiko. She'll keep her eyes and ears out for the Raksasha and its friend and lightly watch them.

Enhanced Perception (10)
Range: Self.
Duration: Five minutes per level of experience.
I.S.P.: 10
This incredible psionic power augments the psychic's physical senses, enhancing his perception. This enhanced state of awareness sharpens all natural senses by 50%, and further enables the psychic to "filter" all of this extra sensory input in order to concentrate on one or a few specific things. While using this ability, the psychic will notice every detail around him
down to the slightest motion, sound, scent, and shadow. He will further be likely to notice changes and inconsistencies that might reveal traps, illusions, feints, or tricks (including sleight-of-hand, etc.).
Bonuses: +3 (+15%) to Perception, +1 to strike, +2 to parry and dodge, and a +10% to any skill that relies on any of the basic senses (such as Intelligence, Tracking, or certain Physical skills like Juggling or Prowl).

Take value and strength where it is to be found. And surround myself with as much of it as I am able.

Vortigern seems bemused and slow to react yet eventually draws himself up to follow after the ladies towards the Observation deck. His eyes follow the movements of the Rakshasa and he hesitates a moment before turning and heading over to stand nearby the Demon on the deck. He hooks his thumbs into his belt and stands so as to be looking away from the Demon, as if enjoying the view, as he speaks. (Demogogian)"It has been some time since I've met one of your People without Summoning one first. Though of course that might be less true than I might assume with your penchant for wearing faces. Regardless I've always found you to be engaging conversationalists. Though regrettably the battle for Center did per force put your people and I on opposite sides. An unfortunate affair for us all. I regret stumbling into it. Perhaps you might recognize me? I was among those who directly confronted and defeated General Halthag. I am Vortigern Taerea." He speaks slowly, softly. Then pauses as he continues to let the view serve as pretext for his actions, and gives his listener time to decide how they want to react. A few seconds later he turns to face the Rakshasa and gently continues. "It is my hope that such past strife can remain in the past where it belongs. My allies and I are assembling a new enterprise. Here in Atlantis. A contracting service for handling problems or gathering intelligence in particular of a dimensional nature. We have a variety of competencies that make us confident of being able to fulfill contracts in our chosen niche as select as it may be. And I hope my deeds may speak for themselves in giving you assurance that I can overcome opposition and will complete tasks despite all. Yet rest assured I bear no grudge for the past. We'll be opening for initial contracts soon. If there is anything we can help you, or any allies, with I would be gratified if you would consider us. If you do not object to me as a provider of services, I will not object to you as a client." he says, giving a faint smile and nod.
