New Beginnings: To Kill a Banker

At around 0945 A small portal opens in the entryway of the Hell Blazer’s HQ and TOliver emerges. He smiles at those gathered.
”I received your summons. I assume you have a response to my offer.”

When it is confirmed that the Hell Blazers agree to accept the job, Toliver keeps a smile on his face, ”Wonderful. I look forward to working with you all. I know you are still light on people. I have a few dossiers of people you might be interested in picking up to assist your group.” Toliver hands Ven a set of documents. ”The top two are a Robot Pilot who has been competing in the local arena. And the other is an Aerihman Undead Slayer. The Robot Pilot, Nate I believe his name was, has recently won his freedom by competing in a near impossible staged fight. He came out of it mostly intact. So I would recommend scoping him up before someone else does. The Undead Slayer arrived here recently however I have been unable to pin down his location.”

Toliver moves to take a seat, ”So do you have any questions regarding the job which was not previously asked?”

Ven nods along with his description of the pilot, A gladiator who won his freedom? Rare indeed. Ven muses with a smile and nods, glancing to Erebos and the others. "We shall see about taking this Pilot on a trial run, send him our way." Ven suggests, glancing to the others. "Many hands make light work, no?" Ven asks rhetorically to the others with a smile.

She asks, pausing before adding, "If we are to kill a minion of the Splurgoth, but avoid their master and their operations, then that leaves us with one viable ambush spot." Ven states, referring to the location where Kytzen spends his off time. "Also, do you have any information on his actual movements; such as, how much time he spends on either planet and how often he has actual off time?" Ven asks, closing her eyes and going into a deep thought. A Lord with a soft spot for lanteans; how odd. Must be nostalgic considering where they conquered. The dragoness thinks to herself with a light smile. She opens her eyes, though they are narrowed as they look at Toliver as she awaits an answer as another question brews in her mind. Ven will pause before going any further, looking around the table and to Erebos to see what questions or comments they may have.

+10% in darkness or shadow, and +5% when pertaining to hiding, escape, Shadow Magic, Shadow beings, vampires and the undead (recognizing clues to their presence, servants, victims, etc.).
+15% to recognize the arcane.
-10% to perception rolls while directly in bright artificial light (>300 watts) or sunlight.
Perception has a base skill rating of 15%, adding 3% per level each additional level of experience beyond first level.
Perception does not replace the Detect Concealment or Detect Ambush skills, nor does it replace Read Sensory Equipment or Optics Systems for use with technological sensors to perceive.
Like Detect Ambush, Detect Concealment, and other skills, Perception is an opposed skill check.
As with all % skill checks, a natural roll of 96-00 is a critical fail and a natural roll of 01-05 is a critical success.

Aerihman Undead Slayer... pretty ballsey to show up in Atlantis, I like him already... Robot Pilot, hmm... well, we are short on that sort of thing ever since Irish left he thinks.

The Shadow Mage listens carefully to Ven's questions and observations. Already, she takes initiative and asks pertinent questions he thinks to himself, pleased with what he sees so far.

"Establishments that our mark tends to frequent, and schedules, if available, would be helpful. His standard entourage and sleeping arrangements as well," says the Sunaj to the Raider.

"You mentioned he likes to gamble at times - is there a favorite game of his that we are likely to find him engaging in during his recreation?" he asks.

The more we know about this target, the better we'll be able to plan around him and exploit his weaknesses while shoring up our own he thinks.

Saving Throws, Bonuses, and other handy information
  • Bonuses while in Shadow or Darkness: +2 to Perception Rolls; +1 to Strike, Parry and Dodge; +3 to save vs. Shadow Magic spells; impervious to insanities involving darkness, shadows, or the denizens of the Shadow Dimension; and is never afraid of any kind of darkness (feels at home and safe in darkness). Heals injuries at 1d6 per hour of rest or meditation.
  • Penalties and Vulnerabilities: -2 Spell Strength when cast in areas of bright artificial light or sunlight (with no shadow to cast in), and all spell effects, range, damage, duration etc. of Shadow Magic are reduced by half. -2 to Perception Rolls and initiative, -5% on skill performance when in daylight, overcast (without shadows), or exposed to bright artificial light. Vulnerable to silver! Any kind of silver blade or bullet does double damage. Over time, some Shadow Mages (5% chance per level- not allergic @ level 1, roll again next level!) become allergic to sunlight and suffer from headaches and nausea when exposed to it for more than one hour (-15% to skill performance, reduce speed 20%, -1 melee attack and -1 on all combat bonuses).
  • Speed: Érebos runs at 700 meters per minute, 175 meters per melee round, 26mph! Can run at half that speed for up to 12 miles before fatigue, or 1/3 that at full speed before collapsing.

Rana will listen intently to the questions asked by Erebos and Venenifer, waiting to see if her own queries are addressed without her having to speak up.

I have led hunts... but I usually know my prey before the hunt begins.

As they ask their questions, Rana adds, "How many guards does he travel with? How well-armed? Does he have weaknesses we can exploit? Habits that make him predictable, loved ones who can be used? How does he contact his Splugorth master - is that something we can separate him from quickly?"

One tracks the prey until they are alone - drinking, sleeping, or separated from their pack if they have one. Then one strikes. Cut off retreat to it's pack or place of strength. Strike fast - a quick death is a mercy.

Her mind flashes - ever so briefly - to the event that forged her, that filled her blood with hatred for vampires.

She writhed, unable to move, staked to four posts in the center of the Khesh. The leader of the Vampires approached her, her baby in his arms. 'It is time to feed' he said, and the pack of vampires laughed - an abhorrent, joyless laugh. Then he placed her baby to her breast and she saw it, pale and unliving. She felt the pain as its razor teeth clamped down, and it started... to feed.

A moment, and gone - pushed back into the dark recesses of her mind. Not now - there is a job at hand. She thought to herself, with the promise I will find all the vampires, child. I will find and kill them, and then I will join you under your skies.

Rana sits back to absorb Toliver's answers, ready for action to take her away from her own thoughts.

Erebos, Rana, Patches, Eshmun, Ven, Theros

Toliver grins slightly at the variations of the questions leveraged at him. ”All Good questions. And I can answer a few. For starters the expected timeline for this job is as soon as possible with the maximum time being two months from yesterday.” Tolver leans back in his chair, ”How long the man spends on the different planets can be difficult to pin down. Generally he bounces between them every three to seven days. He spends no more than four days at a time on the pleasure world. As far as his bodyguards, there are only two visible ones while Kytzen enjoys his off time. However when he is working on the agricultural world he is under heavy guard, but that is likely due to the area where he works is fortified against outside attack. Additionally I can not discount other security on the pleasure world. As I myself tend to stick out in most places I go, I have not been able to identify a detailed pattern of life for Kytzen. I have full confidence in your abilities to identify the most opportune time to strike. Kytzen’s favored games are roulette, craps, and blackjack. He tends to spend most of his time on the first two. His bodyguards are a pair of Powerlords. They have the ability to change their appearance to suit the environment around them. So they can appear as normal people at times. As for contact with his master...He does not have direct contact while on the pleasure world. However the bodyguards may have means to contact the Splogorth of other minions in case of an emergency. I do not have any additional information on that as it is difficult. I do know Kytzen is told when he must return to the farm world before he leaves for the pleasure world. Kytzen tends to frequent five different establishments; The Golden Tiger Casino; Dragon’s Breath Bath House; Devas For Dimes; Fi Fi Emporium; Jackal Casino. He has been known to deviate from these but it is rare.” Toliver presses his hands together in thought for a moment, ”I believe that is all I have information wise. If I had more information I’m sure I would have been able to remove him as an obstacle already. Anyway I would recommend making contact with your new prospects. I don’t know how long the Robot Pilot, Nathan, will continue to be free and breathing. He should be at Coyote Bar near the Arena at least for the next few hours. He cost people a lot of money when he survived. As for the undead slayer, Theros I believe his name is. His family has sent him here to gain experience in combat and conflict. I believe he may be bound to seek you out Erebos.”

Almost as if Toliver timed it, there is a knock at the door of the Hell Blazers HQ. When they answer the door they are met by a man wearing a set of odd looking EBA. (Enter: Theros)


Nathan

Nathan sits alone at the Coyote Bar that is adjacent to the Arena. Famous for being the only place the Arena slaves were able to frequent without permission from their owners. Nathan is being treated to a round by those he used to fight with and against during his servitude. Despite the festive atmosphere, Nathan knows he must figure out his next move. Having survived his match and won his freedom, he has placed an enormous target on himself. What he needs are friends, a job, or both.

Standing in the doorway after having just knocked, his duffle at his feet, leaving his rifle hand free and on the handle, encase it's about to go down. Going through training scenarios in his head, ready to activate his shield at the slightest transgression and raze the place. Theros readying his young self, for the unknown, knowing he looks like a human teenager when not in his armor, but that is also something he can take advantage of. Knocking one more time, and then takes two steps back from the door.

Theros, outside of his armor's, appears to be a early teenager, despite his age. Dark red hair (Auburn) Light Blue/Grey eyes, sparse freckles on body, tall, athletic build. He has his marks of heritage on his wrists as do every True Atlantean, he wears leather bracers over them outside of his armor's. Tattoos are placed mainly on his torso, so not as visible if worn with regular clothing.

Ven listens with a genuine intent as Toliver explains what he can. For now, I can accept that he has no reason to deceive us. We shall see where this goes. The dragon thinks to herself with a mild curl at her lip, smiling as she is now gazing at nothing until Toliver mentions the recruit. "Yes, we will see to this recruit." Ven says with a smile and then her smile broadens when the knock at the door happens. "Punctual." Ven playfully says towards the group before adding, "Allow me to fetch our new ally, please keep talking." Ven says and will exit the room. She will round the corner and answer the door.

The dragoness opens the door to a man in odd looking armor and a well-used axe. Ven looks slightly down on the gladiator with a welcoming smile. "Ah, you must be Theros, the hunter. You may call me Ven; please, everyone is waiting inside." Ven says and will extend her arm, welcoming him to enter their building. During the brief walk to the Conference Room, Ven will look to Theros. "Tell me, hunter. What is your favorite thing to hunt? Do you have a focus or do you just... kill monsters?" Ven asks with a wry grin and through a glint Theros can almost see a reptilian-type eye looking back at him.

Regardless of his answer, the conversation will be brief and they soon arrive at the Conference Room with the others, to which Ven will point out a seat next to Rana, across from Erebos. "Please, sit. Ah, don't mind us. Quick hello's are in order. Theros?" Ven says, sitting down and looking to him first with a look of intensity, and Theros can definitely see her eyes are reptilian, a deep violet coupled to a blue.

Continuing to stand, still unease. He looks at the room of people with his eyes, not moving his head to indicate whom he is looking at. Continuing in the Draconic tongue. "I see you have been informed in advance of my arrival, this is good." Keeping his helmet on, gripping his duffle bag, the new recruit visibly looks around the room.

He has his marks of heritage on his wrists as do every True Atlantean, he wears leather bracers over them outside of his armor's. He considers taking off his helmet, but being his first mission, and fresh out of training, he is hesitant. He knows how young is appearance is to Non Atlanteans. This time responding in english: "With respect, I would rather not at this time." He sticks his tongue out at Venenifer, though his helmet hides this. His own thought of ~Ok, so I am not fully mature yet~ smirking under his helmet.

Unless otherwise stated, Érebos speaks in Dragonese during dialogue and thinks in Ancient Greek. He is increasingly finding himself thinking in the Whisper language of the Shadow Realm (30% of the time), even though he scarcely recalls doing so as a conscious decision...

Erebos takes in all the information Toliver offers regarding their mark.

All options are on the table. Perhaps his guard will be lowest while traveling between planets he thinks.

The Shadow Mage's eyebrow raises at Toliver's comment. Seek me out? Interesting... I wonder why? he muses silently.

"We'll be sure to fetch the gladiator and keep an eye out for... Theros, wasn't it? Thank you for recommending them to us," he replies.

When there's a knock at the door, Erebos looks to Ven and nods.

During our operations, we use code names to maintain secrecy and hide our identities as much as possible, so you may as well get used to that if you're looking to come aboard. This is Rana, code name Silver. You may find you share a hatred for vampires and the undead - she chose a different path to destroy our eternal foes, but is nonetheless as dedicated to doing so as any Undead Slayer I've ever met, and I trust her completely," he says, nodding toward his coldblooded friend.

Moving around the room, he introduces each in turn, saying little about Patches and Eshmun (given he doesn't know them well yet and only knows what he's heard), introducing Kianra as only "our Aerihman sister" and saying little else about her, given their recent clash, and ending with, "and you've already met Ven, my second in command. And this is Toliver, our esteemed guest, and - I suppose he's now a client of Hellblazers Inc. as well."

With that, Erebos sits back in his chair and looks at Theros expectantly. "Well? Tell us about yourself, Theros. How long have you been an Undead Slayer? Seen much action? And what brings you to Atlantis - and especially, unescorted?" he asks, interested in the man's answers.

Perhaps he doesn't know how dangerous it can be here... if that's the case, he'll learn soon enough... provided he takes off the helmet so we can talk to the person rather than the suit... strange as it may be he thinks to himself, looking up and down at the strange armor.

"I've seen my share of armors, even in Phase World and on Center, but I've never seen anything quite like that before,"Where did you get it?" he says to Theros.

Erebos is smiling and being as pleasant as possible - a strain, but one he has learned to utilize when needed. Though not the natural charmer that Ven is, the man does know how to put people at ease because he was trained to do so - even if he doesn't enjoy it, per se.

Looking around, while speaking "When I heard were I was being sent, I procured it as a part of my cover, for a Non Atlantean, this armor puts one on equal footing , at least the fundamentals, but better than that, since's it's a techno wizard suit, it reads as magical and allows me to move around freely without having to worry about our natural abilites, making me stick out to the Splugorth, or Coalition." By the end of his answering he is focused back on Erebos with his Marks of Heritage showing on display to the group leader, then puts his gloves back on, and holds his helmet under his arm.
Theros, outside of his armor's, appears to be a early teenager, despite his age. Dark red hair (Auburn) Light Blue/Grey eyes, sparse freckles on body, tall, athletic build. He has his marks of heritage on his wrists as do every True Atlantean, he wears leather bracers over them outside of his armor's. Tattoos are placed mainly on his torso, so not as visible if worn with regular clothing.

Wise decision - and good to know he's at least partly aware of the danger of being here.

"Ahh... well, it seems that whomever sent you to us knew enough to warn you of the dangers of Atlantis, and especially this city, Splynn. The Splugorth - curse of the shadows upon them - have enslaved many of our people, Theros, and countless beings of other races as well. You would be wise to hide your Atlantean features when visible to them, and keep your head down, so to speak. On the plus side - even Sploogs have some - they hate vampires as much as we do, so you won't have to worry about the bloodsuckers here in Splynn.. but don't despair, I've got no doubt we'll encounter them and, judging by the company we have present, annihilate those whom we do run into," he says confidently. "In short, Atlantis isn't the safest place for humanoids in general. If worse comes to worse, follow the lead of others until you learn the ropes of survival here," he says to the young Undead Slayer.

Rana listens to Toliver detail Kytzen's routines and defenses. Two powerlord guardians... that will be quite a battle. But easier on the pleasure world than it would be elsewhere. We will ahve to track him - find him at one of the five establishments. He should not be hard to find - a human or atlantean attended by two powerlords.

She then hears that Toliver has arranged two individuals who might be interested in workign with the Hellblazers. A robot pilot and an Undead Slayer. Good. She thinks about Coldcenter, and his untimely death. I hope they are strong.

When Theros arrives and is admitted by Ven, Rana listens to their conversation, saying nothing at first.

He hunts vampires. This is good. He he refuses to take off his helmet, she approaches.

"As Shroud has said, I am Rana, called Silver." She is tall, at 7', though lithe and sinewy - clearly strong. Her skin is a patchwork of primitive tattoos and ritual scarification. She gestures to the ones on her face. "These are my markings, put there by my first Bajrak, my... clan is the word in your tongue. Some are marks of honor. Some are marks of shame. We do not care what you look like under your helmet, except that we may know you."

She looks at the man.

"You hunt and kill Vampires. So do I. We have common prey."

She watches as he unfastens his helmet, and removes it. He seems young, though many are not as they seem.

after removing his Helmet he will look at her when she is speaking, making eye contact, and keeping it while she speaks.

At first when Rana approaches, he doesn't understand what she is about to do, but as she reaches for his forearm he is somewhat surprised she knows the custom. He accepts her Forearm and wrist, and grips hers back in the show of respect, and open palm.

Nathan sits alone at the Coyote Bar that is adjacent to the Arena. Famous for being the only place the Arena slaves were able to frequent without permission from their owners. Nathan is being treated to a round by those he used to fight with and against during his servitude. Despite the festive atmosphere, Nathan knows he must figure out his next move. Having survived his match and won his freedom, he has placed an enormous target on himself. What he needs are friends, a job, or both.
Nathan sits at a table in the corner of the Coyote Bar, back to the wall and facing the entrance. He is wearing a ragged flight suit, dotted with several patches. He pours himself a glass from a half-empty bottle of glowing blue liquid and takes a drag from what passes for cigarettes in these parts, adding to the already smokey atmosphere of the joint. He raises his glass to a group of gladiators near the bar and swirls the liquid around in his glass, staring at it for a moment before tossing it back. He swished the bittersweet drink around in his mouth for a moment, savoring it. The Splugs sure know how to brew a cocktail, that's for sure.

Nathan leaned back in his chain and massaged the left side of his face wit his hand as he began to feel the warmth of the drink and the tingling sensation in his cheeks begin to wash over him. A lot of people, no, things... had lost a lot of money on his last fight. He wasn't really sure why he hadn't thrown the fight. It wasn't like he hadn't done it before. Maybe it was the satisfaction of seeing the look on the crowd's collective faces as their favorite fighters got dragged out in body bags. He didn't know. One thing he did know was that he was fucked. He half expected some of the Splug's flunkies to kick down the door any minute. He rested a hand on the grip of his laser pistol under the table. He wouldn't go down without a fight, and sure as hell not sober. He took another drag from his cigarette and watched the door.

Toliver grins in the background as the Hell Blazers speak to their newest member. Toliver waits for a break in the conversation before reinvigorating the conversation, ”Your timing was impeccable Theros. I was just informing the Hell Blazers of the requirements for their job. However I am just about out of time. Veneniffer, Erebos, was there anything else you wished to ask of me? I have given you all I have on the target.” If there are no other questions Toliver moves to an empty area of the room and opens a portal. Just before he steps through he pauses a moment and looks over his shoulder at Ven and Erebos, ”You should hurry to see the robot pilot. I believe he only has another 45 minutes left if you don’t get there soon.” And with that Toliver disappears and the portal closes behind him.

As Nathan considers his options and enjoys the free alcohol one of the slaves he knows well, Skip Jace, comes up to him and slides him a glass of whiskey, ”Nathan. Congratulations. I still can’t believe you were able to make those splugorth pay for setting you an impossible task. I knew you could do it. If anyone could, it would be you, my friend.” Skip makes a big show of raising his glass and the rest of the bar cheers for Nathan. Skip then sits and looks Nathan dead in the eyes, ”have you thought about your next move? You know they won't take this defeat lying down. We need to get you some kind of benefactor or get you off island for a little bit. You know, let the heat die down. Do you have any ideas?”
Nathan accepts the glass of whiskey graciously and takes a long drink before setting the glass down hard and screwing up his face. He really felt the buzz coming on now. It felt like an old friend. He shakes his head and snorts. "If leaving here were that easy, Skip, I'd have done it by now. I've got a family out there, somewhere, you know? Maybe the Splugs know it, too. Maybe they just like seeing me squirm. Maybe that's the booze talking and I don't amount to more than speck on their windshield." He pounds the rest of the whiskey and rubs his eyes. "Hell, who am I kidding? It's been years. You don't think my wife's moved on by now? That my little girl hasn't gotten used to her dad not being here? Nathan lets out a sigh. "Nah, Skip. I'm not going anywhere. Not until I stick it to those tentacled freaks. And who the hell do you think would take me in, anyhow?"

Theros, outside of his armor's, appears to be a early teenager, despite his age. Dark red hair (Auburn) Light Blue/Grey eyes, sparse freckles on body, tall, athletic build. He has his marks of heritage on his wrists as do every True Atlantean, he wears leather bracers over them outside of his armor's. Tattoos are placed mainly on his torso, so not as visible if worn with regular clothing.

Perception has a base skill rating of 15%, adding 3% per level each additional level of experience beyond first level.

Recalling that Toliver mentioned the “Coyote Bar”, Erebos pulls out his digital pocket computer and looks it up for info and directions, while asking the group of anyone has heard of the place.

The Shadow Mage thinks for a moment, decides to split up the group for efficiency, and decides to bring the new guy along as well to size up his ability to deal with the dangerous city.

To Van, Rana, and - after a moment’s hesitation, the new guy, Theros: ”Alright, let’s scoop up our new prospect before Sploog tentacles spoil our chances. You heard Toliver - I need you all ready to go to a potentially hostile bar in 3 minutes!” he says, beginning preparations himself as well, and showing Theros his quarters ever-so-briefly.

”We’re in a bit of a time crunch, so the formal tour will have to wait.” he says to the younger Aerihman with a wink as he gestures toward Theros’s room.

He will say to Kianra, Skulls, Patches, and Eshmun: ”We need you to hold down the fort while we’re gone, and monitor comms. See what you can find out about these planets we’re visiting soon too,” in a neutral, matter-of-fact tone.

You’ll have to deal with her sooner or later… he thinks, reminding himself that he can’t put off their previously dramatic clash forever. Kianra has been unusually quiet, unrepentant or not, and it may or may not be a cause for additional concern, but the matter will have to wait, as Toliver’s cryptic “45 minute” warning made it sound important that they arrive in time to snatch up this Robot Pilot.

Hope he’s worth it thinks the Shadow Mage, remembering how Irish, the last tech guru, didn’t last very long.

When everyone is ready to go, Erebos will lead the group toward the Coyote Bar, with the usual travel arrangements (not attracting undue attention, avoiding Sploog minions when possible, etc.)

  • Penalties and Vulnerabilities: -2 Spell Strength when cast in areas of bright artificial light or sunlight (with no shadow to cast in), and all spell effects, range, damage, duration etc. of Shadow Magic are reduced by half. -2 to Perception Rolls and initiative, -5% on skill performance when in daylight, overcast (without shadows), or exposed to bright artificial light. Vulnerable to silver! Any kind of silver blade or bullet does double damage. Over time, some Shadow Mages (5% chance per level- not allergic @ level 1, roll again next level!) become allergic to sunlight and suffer from headaches and nausea when exposed to it for more than one hour (-15% to skill performance, reduce speed 20%, -1 melee attack and -1 on all combat bonuses).
  • Speed: Érebos runs at 700 meters per minute, 175 meters per melee round, 26mph! Can run at half that speed for up to 12 miles before fatigue, or 1/3 that at full speed before collapsing.

Rana will head to the Coyote Bar with Erebos, Venenifer, and Theros. She keeps her eyes open, but her movements relaxed. Splynn is a dangerous place, but the moment you look like prey, you are done. You must walk these paths as a predator, as a hunter. They must know you are dangerous, so they may seek easier game elsewhere.

When they arrive at the Coyote, Rana enters, and looks around. Who is this Robot Pilot? We were given a name only - 'Nate' - and told he earned his freedom. A slave race then. Human?

Rana will scan the patrons of the bar, looking to identify her target - a slave-race robot pilot, someone who, if they have recently earned their freedom, should be just the right mix of happy and nervous.

Ven takes a seat back in the ongoing conversation, the young dragon enjoying watching the others converse. The many emotions she gets to see as each different person has their own different angles, preferences and experiences. This is interesting. She simply thinks through a grin as she sips a drink, her eyes softly flowing between party members as they speak, in no particular order.

Ven nods to Toliver. "I believe my immediate questions are covered. We should be capable of figuring out the rest, we'll be in touch." Ven finishes, shooing the raider away.

Ven stands up and claps her hands. "Alright, keep the door locked and don't open it for any strangers." Ven says playfully to Kianra and the others Erebos has elected to remain behind before following the others towards the front. "If we're walking, we'll need to be prepared." Ven adds, her tone suddenly more serious.

With that, she doesn't need much and is ready to head out quickly. Her predatory gaze watching for any aggressors targeting their party as they traverse the city to the Bar. Once there, she will look for this pilot, activating her psionic sight to find him based on Toliver's information. [Psionic Seeking, 4 mile radius, 20 minutes, 6 ISP, 65%]

If that doesn't kick, she will turn to her allies with a smile. "Time to mingle." She says, her eyes betraying her words as they are visibly reptilian showing she is on the hunt. She'll then approach the bar and lean into it, summoning the bartender. "I'm looking for a friend... the kind that just doesn't die. I heard he's here"

For her part, Kianra sits in the briefing but remains quiet. Her mind still reeling from everything that had happened earlier, she still isn't sure what to make of Erebos or even her own family anymore. I knew we could be stubborn and aggressive but... her mind trails off as she remembers a pointed conversation she had with Celeste and the Aerihman called Father.

Erebos breaks her out of her train of thought and she nods swiftly and swallows a breathe while blinking and looking to Erebos. "You got it. We'll hold down the base." She says while nodding and looks to the other three. "Let's get situated, follow me." Kianra will say and will lead the others to the lower level and by the time she returns to the main foyer, the team has left. Kianra secures it then sits in a lotus posture, closing her eyes and triggering her Eye of Knowledge within a Rift tattoo to fully sense the dimension they occupy as she passes the time.

Looks around for any screens or papers that indicate or elude to the appearance of the robot pilot who won the gladiatorial bout.

Skip buys another round and leans in dropping his voice to a whisper, ”I heard of some new players in town. They apparently freed a slave from splugorth bondage and hired him themselves. I’m not sure who they are, but they seem to be people of great skill to be able to operate in this area and operate counter to splugorth interests.” Skip leans back and stiffens as he spots a group of unknown people enter the bar. When Nathan looks at them he see’s a group of well armed individuals of mixed races. They are obviously looking for someone, but they don’t have a malicious air to them.

Everyone

Erebos plots a quick and quiet route through the city to the slave pens. Thanks to Erebos the Hell Blazers are not even noticed as they approach the bar. Upon entering they lose the blending they had previously. While there are various races here, they are very clearly slaves of one kind or another. Whether tattoos, brands, or collars, everyone except the Hell Blazers has some sign of being a slave. Ven activates her Psionic Seeking and is drawn to a human at the bar sharing a drink with another man. There are several empty glasses around them as it appears as if they were celebrating something prior to the group’s arrival. All the patrons have stopped their activity to watch the newcomers. Rana also identifies the same man as Ven. She can tell he is in a pilot outfit and seems to have been the center of attention before the Hell Blazers entered the bar. Theros looks around for a screen or newspaper to see if he can see a headline to identify the man they are looking for. Unfortunately the splugorth are not known for highlighting their losses and he can not find what he is looking for.

The bartender calls out to the group, ”Can I help you with something? We don’t get many ‘chainless’ people here.” The emphasis the man put on “Chainless” made it seem like a derogatory term.

Thankful his face is hidden behind is environmental TW armor, he is dumbstruck as to how, or why one would even consider never having been forced to be a slave as a negative, he looks to his team and back in the direction of the bartender, then back to his team, lost and confused. "Chainless?" he whispers to himself. "What the hades?"

When Ven's psionic sight returns and she identifies the man, she studies him for a moment. Pilots fatigues, several drunken glasses and quite a crowd. That was easy. Ven thinks to herself as her face wraps with a smile and her eyes narrow with intention. She glances between the patrons of the bar to gauge where the interest lies, to avoid making a scene. Her intention, however, is diverted by the Bartender.

Nathan notices the dragoness approaching, along with the rest of the patrons no doubt. Skip's words barely register with him between the alcohol and the enrapturing charms of the woman. He only snaps out of his daze when she ushers Skip out of the way and sits down.
"Heard good things about you, might have good stable work available for you, but we won't talk here. Care to go for a walk?" Ven offers to the pilot, opening her hand and nodding.
Nathan sits for a moment, mulling over the woman's proposition. He downs the rest of his drink and lights another cigarette before clasping her hand in his and rising to his feet and holstering his laser pistol.

"Under most circumstances, I'd say this was a trap. But... Something tells me that if you wanted me dead, you wouldn't need to lure me outta the bar to do the deed. I'll hear you out."

The pilot extends a hand towards the entrance of the bar and the rest of the group.

"After you."

Her eyes find Rana's and Erebos's as she connects with them mentally once more. He's sharp, we should depart quickly before we've any other company seeking this pilot and return to our base. Ven telepathically suggests while leading Nathan towards the group and the door. She will nod towards her existing team slightly and motion her eyes towards Nathan silently saying "this is the pilot."

Theros, outside of his armor's, appears to be a early teenager, despite his age. Dark red hair (Auburn) Light Blue/Grey eyes, sparse freckles on body, tall, athletic build. He has his marks of heritage on his wrists as do every True Atlantean, he wears leather bracers over them outside of his armor's. Tattoos are placed mainly on his torso, so not as visible if worn with regular clothing.

So far, so good thinks the Shadow Mage, deferring to Ven's charms. She's a natural, and sometimes that's preferable to my practiced skill he thinks, giving the dragoness room to work her social magic, as it were.

Erebos will join the others and exit the bar with Nathan. As soon as they are out of the bar, he will speak to the man, "We have good reason to believe you're in serious danger, and only a few minutes from it at most. Sploogs don't take well to losses, and the fact that you won your freedom to boot, that makes you alright by me. Let's get your gear and get the hell out of dodge - we can talk more when the immediate threats are behind us," he says.

Erebos will stay with the group while they retrieve the man's gear/armor and then return to HQ by the same route they took the first time, avoiding any Sploog traffic.

If trouble comes looking for Nathan before we're able to get away or get to his gear, Erebos will pull out his Book of Banishment and say to Nathan: "Look, we don't have the time to explain everything. Without struggle or fanfare the Hell Blazers, their new member in tow, leave the bar unmolested. While they do get some looks of concern, the bartender does nothing in response to any of the comments leveled his way. He can see who you are there for and immediately ignores your whole group. The Hell Blazers are able to stop off at the maintenance area and pick up Nathan's PA before making their way back to their HQ.

Once back at the HQ those who were left behind inform Erebos and Ven that Toliver provided the location of the two worlds so they can proceed with their mission at any time.

"We usually like to have a bit of a more casually paced first meeting, Nathan, but you came both recommended and with a warning that you could be in serious trouble if you stayed in that place much longer. You've got nothing to worry about for now - the Splugorth, so far as we're aware, don't know where you are, and you'll find no friends of the Sploogs among us," says Erebos to Nathan. "My name is Erebos, but you can call me Shroud. I lead this outfit - for now," he says.

Not bad. Needs a little polish, but potential is there.

"As my dragoness friend and second-in-command said, Nathan - we're looking for a few fresh faces to join our crew of dimensional adventures and troubleshooters," says the Sunaj with a friendly smile intended to put the man at ease. "We've got a generous contract out at this moment on a sleazeball bean counter, and our benefactor has decided that this particualar mark is no longer in need of his head... so we've been hired to deliver the message. If you're interested, we'll be glad to sort out the details,"he says to Nathan a congenial business-like tone.

Nathan leans against the wall in the common room, arms crossed. He nods to each of the people in front of them as they introduce themselves in turn.
"We usually like to have a bit of a more casually paced first meeting, Nathan, but you came both recommended and with a warning that you could be in serious trouble if you stayed in that place much longer. You've got nothing to worry about for now - the Splugorth, so far as we're aware, don't know where you are, and you'll find no friends of the Sploogs among us."
Nathan lights up a cigarette and takes a long drag. "Well, seems like I owe you lot thanks. Most people are pretty wary of crossing the Sploogs."
"We're what you could call an independent company operating within Atlantis, with a varying degree of job ambiguity. Right now, we've been hired for an assassination, don't worry, not yours; is such a job something you can stomach or would you like to wander back to that bar?" Ven asks, her question pointed in gauging Nathan's own ambiguity.
Nathan scratches his chin and smokes his cigarette, seemingly deliberating. "You know, I've done plenty of things I never thought I would since I came here. I've snuffed the life out of good people and bad people all in the name of entertainment and to make sure I made it to the next fight. He lets out a long stream of smoke. "If it's true what you say. If it'll give me a chance to get back at those tentacled freaks? One more life don't make much difference does it?

He finishes smoking and runs a hand through his hair. "I can pilot damn near anything that walks on two legs and some other things, too. If you need someone to do some killing, I'm your man.

Ven listens to the others, specifically Rana and Erebos as they introduce themselves with a nickname as well. Ven frowns. Why don't I have a nickname? The dragoness asks herself almost out of sheer protest as she becomes momentarily distracted from the conversation at hand to consider what she should tell others to call her when not using Ven.

What kind of nicknames do they use? Shroud? So like, what, a cloak? I use smoke? But Rana
is Silver? Isn't she allergic to silver? What would I call myself? Smokey? No, that is my defense, not my offense. I mean, I do spit poison too, but that's also apart of the cloud defense... Hmm. A noxious cloud, poison, miasma? But is that what I am, or what I become when cornered. What do the nicknames represent?! What we are, what we strive to be!? What we used to be? I no longer rely on the breathe of poison as I did my first year, I have grown, my mind has grown. I am a mental master and am learning to bend people to my will. A puppeteer or influencer? Ew, I hate both terms.
Ven wrestles with this in her mind, a grimaced face appearing as she glances between Rana and Erebos. Her blank is reset when Nathan answers her.

When the team breaks there, she goes about her own research, however adding to Rana's own comment. "I should be able to assist Rana in tracking on the planets in question." Ven offers but will otherwise she what she can turn up from her research.

Theros, outside of his armor's, appears to be a early teenager, despite his age. Dark red hair (Auburn) Light Blue/Grey eyes, sparse freckles on body, tall, athletic build. He has his marks of heritage on his wrists as do every True Atlantean, he wears leather bracers over them outside of his armor's. Tattoos are placed mainly on his torso, so not as visible if worn with regular clothing.

"Mostly big transports and some treaded vehicles like tanks. I can also fly some jet-propelled aircraft, as well.

After each of his new companions has said their piece and have dismissed him, he follows along after Theros and Rana. When they reach the armory, he grabs a couple energy clips for his sidearm.

"I appreciate the tour, Silver, was it? If anyone needs me, I'll be with my suit. She took a little bit of a beating in that last fight and I want to make sure she's serviceable before we ship out." With that, Nathan heads to where his suit is stored, snagging a few tools along the way. He soon gets to work making some basic tune ups, tightening loose screws, dealing with faulty wiring and patching up any holes that aren't too serious.

After he's finished, he wipes a bit of sweat from his brown and tosses down a bedroll at the feet of his suit. He unbuckles his gun belt and sets it down on a nearby crate before lying down on the mat and putting his hands behind his head. He stares up at the massive suit of power armor.

"Well, Daisy ol' girl, welcome to your new home. He thinks as he lays a hand on one of the large power armored feet of the suit.

Ven returns the smile to her ally with a nod. "I do so enjoy when we can take our time. I have mastered some new aspects of the mind that should serve us well. If I ask you to trust me in the mission, just go along with it." Ven adds with a wispy wave and twirl of her fingers. I probably scare him a little with my mental abilities... I don't even fully understand them all yet. Maybe one day I will find a fellow dragon that doesn't want to kill me who would teach me. Ven muses briefly before dismissing the thought and nodding to her friend before leaving to research her own concepts.

Sometime during the research, Ven finds herself becoming consumed with the various nicknames she continues to hear among the team. Shroud. Silver. Even Kianra has one I hear. Why not I, I should have one. One that is not Ven, that's just my name. But what would one call me that isn't my name? Ven's though process expands as she starts walking the compound until she runs into Rana. "Ah, Friend Rana. I have a question. I have heard you and some others use, ah, codenames for each other? If I am to venture with you, I should have one as well, shouldn't I?" Ven asks her ogre ally.

Ven, if around to hear that comment, will nod along. "We can go now, it won't take us long and it's better to go together, trust me. I would rather have your armament issue resolved before we are out the door." Ven suggests, pausing before adding. "I don't like having to rush." She adds simply with a smile.

Eventually, Ven will also wander to the garage Irish once occupied. I wonder what happened to that crazy man. The dragoness thinks but dismisses it when she sees Nathan working on his mech, walking in as he lay a hand on her feet. After watching a moment, the dragoness speaks up (possibly making Nathan jump), "We need to get you one that has wings." Ven states simply, leaning against the door frame.

Laws: The planet has strictly controlled ports of entry. Weapons up to rifles are authorized. And up to mid sized PA’s are also acceptable. Anything larger would have to be checked in a similar fashion as MercTown. Police presence is substantial. Casinos also have their own private security equivalent to a Mercenary Battalion worth of personnel. World has both mundane and magical types of surveillance.

The two spend nearly 8 hours on their research while the rest of the Hell Blazers get settled in. Eventually Kianra comes up to Ven and Erebos, ”Are your guys leaving today or are we waiting till tomorrow?”
