Keiko makes her way through the rooms, Interesting. I wonder what happened here? Doesn't look like it was all nice., eventually ending up back where the others are. Keiko watches as Daisuke messes around with some kind of food. Has he lost his mind? Maybe just had too many dimensional jumps lately. Some people just have a hard time coping.

"So I took a look around. Looks like the place has been empty for several months. I did find signs of a struggle in one room, but I cant make out what happened. So looks like we are good to not expect the previous residents back. That's also why the food is off. It's likely past its expiration.

"Are you suggesting that we currently exist in an alternative timeline?" he asks, placing his palms on his cheeks in dramatic if not genuine astonishment. "It sounds to me like you already have a theory bouncing around in that beautiful brain of yours. Is the suggestion that the Coalition States would have expanded to encompass greater territory, into a "Grand Empire", if they had allowed magic as part of their military dogma?"

Keiko smirks at Daisuke's surprise. "Is it really that surprising? There are realities beyond measure out there. We just happened to find one close to ours. Likely has a few tweaks to their history. Hence why we don't recognize any symbols. Shifters can move through different realities and dimensions without much help. I always wanted to learn how to jump between dimensions. I guess it would have been too easy to get back if I could jump between dimensions. Could have just popped us all back. Guess it's something to pursue when we get back home." Keiko looks between them, "So. I guess we just wait for the others to get back?"

Ronith nods. ”We’ll all go together. A quick reconnoiter first to make sure it’s safe, but I don’t think we can stay here.” Should one of the others share the name they found, Ronith will frown in thought. That name… Sounds familiar… If he recognizes the new leader of the Spook Squad, he will add ”I’ve heard of him- took over for Spook Squad after Sir Thorn retired. Further confirmation that this is indeed a parallel reality.” Not that we needed any.

Ronith decides that he can get further by playing nice. Returning the priest’s enthusiastic greeting with an exuberant grin all his own, Ronith says ”Indeed! My time is nearly upon me. But I seek to arm myself with knowledge, in addition to my blade. I would know all there is to know about this conflict, and our foe. Tell me, what is the latest?” As they talk, Ronith will idly use telepathy to scan the priest’s surface thoughts- for anything he might not be telling the cyber-knight. When Ronith has extracted all the knowledge he can from the man, he will thank him, say a quick prayer to Odin at the shrine, and take his leave. After noting the location of the base and the general disposition of the troopers, he will return to the “Haven.” There, he will greet the others. ”Learned anything else? Then let us make haste to the Collegiate, or whatever it is in this world. Hopefully that will show us the path back home.” Four hundred years to make my way home once- then back for a few days before I have to do it all over again. At least this time I won’t come back old.

Yes!

A mischievous gleam flashes across Daisuke's face and he holds one of the expired kernels aloft in his hand.

"Are you certain?" he asks, a quixotic mask failing horribly to conceal what seems to be an inner snicker. "Try it my friend, how can you be certain unless you try?" Day 1, 112PA
Time: 10:24am
Weather: 60F, light clouds, strong SE wind.
Magic: little within sensible distance.
Radio traffic: heavy
Daisuke listens to the radio and catches glimpses of TVs. The culture seems to be plunged into war, only to prepare for another war. There are wars on different fronts. He also discovers there is a king of New Paducah. Apparently there is a palace on the river itself.

Grant probes the minds of passersby. Most seem to loathe the war or fear it. Even in their minds there seems to be fear of being discovered. Some of the thoughts suggest the possibility that psychics are bring used to search for traitors against the Emperor. Some people dislike the Emperor while others relish his vengeance against the Coalition. As far as non humans, it seems most have been enlisted into the wars, often possessing useful qualities.

Daisuke's testing for magical appliances ends in disappointment as all seems to be equivalent to their own world. Continuing to consume the local culture rewards him with video from the past weekend.
"Word has just come in that another Xiticix Hive has been destroyed hive has been destroyed. The citizens of Tolkeen are lost in revelry!" exclaims one human woman, garbed in a stylized Omega Guard uniform. A dogboy next to year replies, "You aren't kidding Neena, just look at the joy in the faces of the returning guard!" after which the camera cuts to scenes of thousands of guard entering Tolkeen where confetti is showering down. The vehicles, PAs and robots look mostly familiar even if stylized with a subtle Norse flair.
Barracuda asks who "we" are at war with. The man replies to him saying, "Ultimately we are at war with destruction itself! Before Ragnarok is upon us, we must unite the world so it can stand as one under the Emperor!" You do notice every time he mentions the Emperor he comes to attention and raps his chest twice with his right hand in a sign of fealty.

Linking with his mind, Ronith listens to the man talk about the Emperor's accomplishments. It seems that it started with Tolkeen. It seems that Tolkeen did not lose war, due directly to the Emperor. The Coalition declined in power. During Tolkeen apparently the Emperor received visions that guided him to victory. From there he pushed the advantage, capturing many CS towns. His influence grew like wildfire as did his forces. He was a magnet for mercenaries from the world over. Among his visions, he saw Ragnarok upon the world and a glimmer of hope if the world could be united under him. This brought him into conflict with much of the Magic Zone, including Dunscan. All fell before him, either bending the knee or losing their lives. His victory was again made possible from the visions he receives from Odin. It was Odin that taught him how to build the Magisk Brønn . Among his closest allies were many cyber knights. While wars raged, he subdued the mystic knights and then merged them with the cyber knights, renaming them Omega Knights. A formidable fighting force, they possess the best attributes of the Mystic Knights and the Cyber Knights. The Omega Knights are now the aspiration of every child. Heroes of superhuman stature and absolutely loyal to the Emperor. Of all the CS cities, only ChiTown now remains as a hold out, but most seem convinced it will fall within a year. The new battle fronts are Atlantis and Quebec. From reports a navy is already under construction on the eastern coast. An unknown foe has recently come to light. Only the name Archie has been floated, but it's now also under the Emperor's eyes.

"Got it! Ragnarok is coming and only a united front under the Emperor can tackle such a threat. Obviously, the Emperor can guide us through these troubled times. So, I've only ever called him 'The Emperor', but Emperor what? What's his name?" Corwin tries to play it as innocent as possible, not tipping anyone off that he isn't from here.

When they're alone, he says "You guys, I think someone besides the Coalition is in charge here." If he gets the clue as to who the Emperor is, he'll spill the beans.

A small pout affixes itself to Daisuke's face when he discovers the appliances and infrastructure to be mundane. His disappointment does not last long however as he catches sight of tidbits of useful information on the televisions. Rapidly returning to the main living room and ensuring that different channels are selected for each television/radio, Daisuke sits himself back down.

"Look my friends," he says enthusiastically to any who remain ((Grant and/or Keiko)), "These... Norse Omega Guards of this Empire... are victorious in all their battles!" There is an underlying tone of skepticism in Daisuke's voice.

"This state propaganda is strong," he continues, flexing an arm for emphasis, "which means there is likely much suffering among the REAL driver of the engines of perpetual war..."

Really? You care about the suffering of commoners who may have been conscripted, or enslaved to work camps? It's true, if this empire has imposed martial law across its realm and has geared all its production to a war-footing, there are likely many civil liberties of its denizens or prisoners of war that may be suppressed in the name of victory. We shouldn't forget these many faceless names without the power to fight for their own rights. Daisuke can practically hear a mental snicker from Kondo as he continues his diatribe in spite of Daisuke's moral rectitude.

"That means... to maximize profits, we will need to become SMUGGLERS!" Daisuke throws his hands up into the air in joyous celebration. "Oh you will LOVE the life of a smuggler. And the ladies... Ho ho ho, they love the roguish scoundrel don't you know. So much mystery. So much allure. They cannot get enough of it! Just to be close to danger is enticing to their minds... and bodies." The Arismal waggles his eyebrows very uncharacteristically.

While waiting for the rest of the Heroes for Hire to return, Daisuke will continue to watch tv and listen to radio. He will try to leverage his now heightened sense of hearing and his natural heightened sense of recall to monitor many channels of tv and radio simultaneously. To others, the space may sound a bit like a cacophony of disjointed audio sources, but the Arismal's multi-tasking mind and extraordinary intelligence should prove sufficient to parse it all out.

An icy shiver travels down Ronith’s spine as he listens to the priest with ears and mind, but he’s quick to dismiss the thought. And here I was thinking that the Dark Age had beaten the egomania out of me. Don’t be ridiculous, Ronith. Still, how many knights serving Odin were in fight for Tolkeen? I wonder if it’s someone I sort-of knew. Any advantage in dealing with these authoritarians might prove crucial, if we can’t find a quick way home. Aloud, Ronith urges the priest on with a hushed voice. ”The emperor is truly a great man. What is he like? Have you ever seen him?” Again, Ronith will use vocal prompts to try and evoke specific imagery in the man’s mind- he wants to see what the emperor looks like.

With some side-eye to Barracuda, who apparently has a similar thought, Ronith will wait patiently for the priest to finish. Then, with a final bow he says ”We should be going. Ragnarok awaits.” He then motions Barracuda to withdraw. Once they’re outside, Ronith says ”I don’t like this. A massive populist movement coupled with rapid indoctrination of the population in a short period of time, and some sort of higher life dispensing visions at the other end of it. That doesn’t sound like Odin’s style, but the alternatives are far worse. Let’s get back to the others.” Rounding up Ashlynn, Ronith leads the way back to the Haunt. There, he’ll ask Grant for a brief report, and relay what they round around town. ”What we’re seeing is the result of an ascendant Tolkeen- suspiciously ascendant, if you ask me. That suggests that magic is still accessible in this world, and that the new regime is somehow responsible for why it is harder to sense. We should exercise extreme caution at the Collegiate- if these ‘Omega Knights’ have done something to the local nexus it is likely to be a high-security area.” Once they’re done, Ronith will order everyone to head to the Collegiate (or whatever is in its place).

Grant turns back from the window and joins Daisuke and Kondo. The boisterous conversation overcomes his trained stoicism. "This isn't a dimension where the Coalition States didn't reject magic, it's a dimension where it looks like the Federation of Magic may have won." The mage frowns as he thinks, "Many smaller kingdoms in the federation have delusions of grandeur, but as for someone styling themselves as emperor, it's either Lord Dunscon or someone who would have had to defeat him." He looks at the screen, watching the images. "Sir Ronith has a strong connection with the Norse pantheon, I've heard him ramble on about Odin before. I can't see Lord Dunscon willing to worship anyone, maybe he has been beaten here too."

When Daisuke mentions smuggling, Grant adds, "I had wanted to be a merchant myself before joining Heroes for Hire. In a magic friendly territory, what would be considered contraband? The question would be are the darker types of magic: necromancy, biowizardry and the like outlawed or welcomed?"

When the others return from their scouting mission, Grant shares what he's learned. He nods as Sir Ronith confirms Lord Dunscon isn't the emperor. "We still don't know who this person is though." He retrieves his insectoid-like Lord Magi type. Holding it out, he says, "Here, it may not due to be seen as lacking magic. Let's proceed to the Collegiate Arcane and find out what has happened to the nexus here."

Grant exits the Haven with his pistol and blade at his belt, helmet under his arm and walks the short distance towards the missing nexus.

That's no way to ask a lady to try something. I'm sure you can be more subtle then that." Not sure what he was going for there. Did he think I would try to eat it just because it was thrown at me? Nah...can't be that...Could it?...Enh too much thought.

Keiko looks slyly at Daisuke, her voice like honey, "But you have to know where to go first." Keiko grins as she might know more then she's letting on regarding interdimensional raiding.

Keiko turns to Grant as he comes back into the room. "If the Federation won, then why is the nexus gone? Think it could have been some kind of massive ritual or something like that? Anyway I'm kind of going stir crazy here. Think it would be good for me to tag a long to the college?" Keiko poses the question but is fully ready for people to insist she stay in the building. As they still have not gotten a grasp on the non-human situation out there.

He looks at the screen, watching the images. "Sir Ronith has a strong connection with the Norse pantheon, I've heard him ramble on about Odin before. I can't see Lord Dunscon willing to worship anyone, maybe he has been beaten here too."
"I do not know this Lord Dunscon, but I agree that the title seems inadequate in comparison to "Grand Emperor". Someone who has beaten and consolidated all the power on this continent outside of the Coalition... but in the name of Odin." A slight snicker escapes Daisuke's mouth, "What if the "Grand Emperor" is super-charged evil Sir Ronith?! Wouldn't that be amusing?"
Grant Latham wrote: Sun Nov 13, 2022 11:23 amWhen Daisuke mentions smuggling, Grant adds, "I had wanted to be a merchant myself before joining Heroes for Hire. "Yes, a smuggler is but a humble merchant moving goods the local authorities have deemed... unacceptable. You have the mind and talent for this. We must find what is outlawed and become the supplier. That is the road to riches!" Daisuke agrees heartily.
Keiko wrote: Mon Nov 14, 2022 4:24 pmKeiko smirks at his overly boisterous antics. She gives a small chuckle, "Well, you're not wrong. Lots of places out there with lots of different kinds of treasure." Keiko looks slyly at Daisuke, her voice like honey, "But you have to know where to go first." Keiko grins as she might know more then she's letting on regarding interdimensional raiding.
"Ho ho ho, spoken like someone with both knowledge AND a grand idea." Daisuke titters, matching Keiko's tone of innuendo and tapping his temple thoughtfully.

"Yes! Tell us all where to go, what to seek so that we may all swim in the kind of wealth found only in the happiest of dreams." the Arismal declares, gesturing grandly and flashing the felinoid a broad smile.

Inwardly, the discourse rages on within Daisuke's mind.
I am not certain Keiko knows more about this place than we do. Not much time has passed since our arrival. Daisuke thinks at Kondo, challenging the bravado.

How can you say that?! Do you have no faith or trust in your traveling companions? Tsk tsk tsk. Have faith!

What? No, this isn't a question of faith in people. But rather analytical of our situation and odds. Anyway, we should pay more attention to what the others are speculating about this dimension?

I hope you are correct and this Grand Emperor is evil Sir Ronith.

Day 1, 112PA
Time: 11:00am
Weather: 60F, light clouds, strong SE wind.
Magic: little within sensible distance.
Radio traffic: heavy
Daisuke continues to watch TV and listen to the radio. Much of it seems very similar to what he is familiar with, with perhaps more marketing for merc gear. He does notice an interesting show, depicting Omega Guard, which appears to be a buddy cop movie, with the villain as spies from Atlantis. In restrictive environments, smuggling is often lucrative, if not dangerous.

As Ronith and Ashlynn prepare to leave for the College, Barracuda pries for just a little more info and asks "So, I've only ever called him 'The Emperor', but Emperor what? What's his name?". To which the man replies, "Why, the Grand Emperor Ronith Turand of course!! Servant of Odin!"

Ronith, Ashlynn and Barracuda arrive at the College. It appears to be a military academy of some type now. Everyone here is wearing what looks to be some cadet style Omega uniforms. Practically all of the people here are in their mid teens, and there are many. Towering in the skyline from this vantage is a strange techno-volcano like structure of which no one is familiar.

Grant travels to the nexus, but as he approaches, he instantly notices a major difference. Ahead, looks like a military fortification not unlike the wall into Merctown. Within the wall stands a structure likely 200 feet tall, that looks vaguely like a technological volcano. Due to his unique nature, Grant can see magic energy flowing or perhaps being pulled into the feature. Grant is still a thousand feet back, but it does seem to be a high security area.

Keiko remains at the Haven, but watching through windows, it looks not dissimilar to what she knows.

((If you want to investigate the structure or the college more than just general knowledge, include any skill rolls you would like to apply))

"Emperor Turand, such a cool name! Thanks man!" Barracuda turns around quickly and huddles with Ronith and Ash. "I don't know if you overheard, but the Emperor is Ronith Turand. Where. Are. We. Or when are we?"

Is it Evil Ronith? Maybe he has an easy way for us to head back home? I doubt it. It's probably Evil Ronith. Damn.

Barracuda looks around the college grounds for any areas that are not off-limits to get a better feel for what has taken place. He watches as people mill about, paying attention to their clothing choices, how they greet each other, and any other obvious culture changes from his MercTown.

It seems like Grant may have gotten impatient and left before Ashlynn, Corwin, and Sir Ronith returned based on Virtus' post. It's cool with me if Daisuke came with Grant.
Grant's rapid pace towards the nexus slows as he starts noticing the ever increasing details that are different from his own memory. This structure is not unlike the pyramids at Dweomer and Lazlo, it's harnessing the energy of the ley line and nexus, but to a much greater extent; dampening the line to almost nothing. The lines, they must be sad to be used in such a manner. He casts Farseeing (MA 9 | PPE 3 | 10 min | Read license plate up to 2 miles away) to examine the structure for any symbols and runes. He begins walking again towards the towering structure trying to sense the ley line he should be walking within. I will need to teach Keiko how to cast Mask of Deceit at some point, I am sure she'd want to see this place as well.

He ducks into an alley to be unobserved for a moment and casts Charismatic Aura (BOM 99 | 10 PPE | 60' radius | Save vs Magic 15+ | 15 min | +8 P.B. Friendship/Trust/Success Full Deception 80%). Stepping back out he looks for someone who has just exited the military fortification, he plants himself awkwardly in front of the person trying to get his/her attention. "Hello, uh, friend, I am new to town. I've read in an old journal that there is a mage guild in this town. Is this the right place? Whom must I speak with to gain access?"

"Ho ho ho, THIS is the show to watch!" Daisuke bellows in an excited laugh (mostly to himself). Adopting a deep voice, he (poorly) imitates the voiceover, "Omega Guard: Paducah Nights, dun dun DUN!"

The Arismal leans back in the sofa and delivers a few shadow punches into the air in excitement while his legs flail about like a child in the midst of a tantrum.

Actually, I think I am in agreement with you on this one. Though popular-media like this can often exaggerate unrealistically, it will likely put an upper-limit to the sorts of powers these Omega Guards can wield. We would do well to study this show for clues on what their over-arching purpose is, what powers they bring to bear, and how they view not only their purported enemies, but also how they treat innocent civilians in their combat against evil forces.

Whether Kondo is leaning on their multi-tasking brain to reflect on something else or simply uninterested in the analysis, the internal dialogue makes a hard 90 degree turn.

I REALLY like their STYLE! We need to make it a priority to obtain some of those Omega Guard outfits!

It would be interesting to assess whether their armor is conventional, magical, techno-wizard or other. I agree that if we have the opportunity, we could benefit from procurement of something exotic.

And those Omega tattoos! Can you imagine a giant Omega symbol emblazoned on evil Sir Ronith's chest? Classic!

...

Daisuke continues to watch the show (while still listening in on the radio with his multi-tasking mind), trying to pay special attention to the portrayed abilities (and weaknesses) of the Omega Guards and the powers of the Atlantean spies they hunt. Not having much experience fighting Atlantean forces, the Arismal can't discern fact from fiction, but can commit the information to memory for discussion with the others about its veracity.

Should Daisuke feel his alertness ((Copy Animal Attribute: Squirrel)) fade, he will repeat the effort of summoning a squirrel, copying its abilities and releasing it into the ether once more.

Of course. Ronith thinks drolly. Apparently not egoism, or at least not entirely. When Barracuda rejoins them, Ronith nods at the prince’s summary and says ”Let’s get out of here.” After a brief survey of the collegiate, Ronith concludes that there isn’t much of anything that’s worth breaking in. I could impersonate myself, pull rank and try to gain entry. But that’s a trick that will only work once, and it will eventually alert my alternate to our presence if it the news works its way up the chain of command. Which it almost certainly will. Best to save that card for when we truly need it.” Turning to the others, Ronith says ”I don’t think there’s anything here that’s worth the risk of trying to break in. If what the priest said is true, most all of the mages in the area- maybe the continent- are likely co-opted. At this point, we may need to consider reaching out to other enclaves- if Lazlo or Psyscape has even managed to survive. It doesn’t sound like Dweomer did.” The Quebecqois sure as Hel can’t and won’t do anything about it. Gods, Odin, please tell me we shall not have to seek the aid of the Splugorth. ”We need to regroup with Grant and the others, and consider our next move.”
Grant Latham wrote: Sun Nov 13, 2022 11:23 am"We still don't know who this person is though."
Whenever Ronith can rejoin the full team, Ronith will reply wryly. ”Apparently, this ‘Grand Emperor’ is me. Before I came to MercTown and founded Heroes for Hire, I fought in the Tolkeen war. It… is not an experience I care to revisit.” He suppresses a shudder. ”In this reality, something claiming to be Odin intervened, and my alternate led the forces of Tolkeen in a stunning reversal of fortune. Now, he leads an empire that has claimed most of the eastern half of the continent. These troops we’re seeing are drawn from the ranks of mages, cyber-knights, and mercenaries that joined him during the war. I don’t like it. It’s too much, too fast, and to inspire this kind of slavish devotion so quickly isn’t Odin’s style. I fear that something else is playing games- despite their appearance of righteousness, I think we should try to avoid the troopers for the time being. We find out what we can locally, but we may need to start thinking about trying somewhere else for help.” When Grant goes to make his play at the nexus, Ronith nods him forward but stays back, activating sense evil ((-2 ISP)) and keeping an eye out for trouble. He’ll also be on the lookout for any vehicles large enough to carry the team, that they could steal, but for now all he’ll do is watch and try to avoid attracting any notice.

Day 1, 112PA
Time: 12:00pm
Weather: 60F, light clouds, strong SE wind.
Magic: little within sensible distance.
Radio traffic: heavy
Barracuda looks around the grounds of the college for areas that seem to be accessible. Traveling around the perimeter, he finds an area cordoned off with large pavilions. There are several Omega Guard in here, large TVs and promotional material. It appears to be a recruiting station. There are flyers as well as applications. Ashlynn sees the same thing.

Image
Grant spots a couple of students leaving the college and approaches them as to how to gain access. A woman points Grant towards the recruiting tents. If he travels there, he finds the same display that Barracuda sees. There are applications available and a friendly Omega Guard recruiter. IF Grants gets close or makes eye contact at all, the recruiter engages him instantly. "Now YOU look like someone ready to serve! Just look at you. You're the picture of a master of the arcane, are you not? Depending on your proclivity, I'm sure you could get an officer commission. MUCH higher pay and better food." he adds, saying the last part quietly away from the other potential recruits filling out paperwork. "If you're not sure, we have a demonstration of the swearing in this afternoon so you can see what it's like. No obligation. Free meal and an evening at the hotel of your choice here in Merctown. You'll also receive 500 credits for your time."

Using his farseeing, Grant can see runes on the large structure. It's hard to read all of it but this is what he can take away (assuming Grant can read runes). He gets the gut feeling however that this structure relates directly to the subdued magic energy and may even be inhibiting dimensional travel or even teleportation.
OOC Comments
The runes seem to repeat on a massive scale, absorbing and storing PPE on a scale he has neither seen nor heard of. There also seem to be runes related to transdimentional properties, but how they relate is not clear from the construction.
Daisuke gleans from the show that for the most part they seem to only possess traits common to the average person, though outfitted with cutting edge tech. The cranky sergeant , who constantly busts their chops does seem to possess unnatural strength. While it's not unheard of to see people with supernatural strength, there is also a chance it could be purely for comedic effect. Though from what Daisuke sees, the actor probably possesses the strength to save the film production on special effects. One episode with a particularly attractive Omega Knight is something completely different. She seems to exhibit immunity to energy weapons, vast psionic capabilities, advanced techniques against technology (much like Ronith), magic, teleportation and a host of other capabilities. Truly she seems like a combination of Cyber Knight and Mystic knight.

Ronith senses evil, of which there is certainly some around. Of course that isn't unusual even from his own world. For better or worse however, this Merctown is more orderly than his own. There are buses and cargo vehicles of a commercial nature that could easily transport everyone. There are APCs, which clearly are converted Coalition equipment that would also work, but parked near Guardsmen.

Ashlynn in her general observations gets the impression that the Emperor is not located in Merctown, but that it has its own regent who is under the Emperor. He seems to reside in a place they call Valhalla, which from brief conversations with locals might be either a renamed Dweomer or City of Brass, but definitely a hidden location to the east of Merctown.

Ronith keeps his distance from the various Omega Knights and other stormtroopers in the area of the college. No sense in risking one of them recognizing me. After noting the location of a few of the (less well-defended) vehicles capable of transporting the team, Ronith just continues to walk through the area- his strides purposeful but small so that he always looks to be headed somewhere important, while taking his time actually getting anywhere. He’ll try to keep a low profile without being too obvious about it, and idly take to searching the area for the source(s) of the evil he senses. Ronith doesn’t expect that he’ll be able to pinpoint the source before the impression fades, but it gives him something to do while the others investigate the actual people around. Once the team is finished, Ronith will signal the rendezvous and start with a sigh. ”I’m not sure we’re going to be able to figure this one out on our own. Do we try for Dweomer, failing that Lazlo? Assuming either still exists.”

Grant's distraction at looking at the volcano like structure causes him to bumble a bit as he talks to the students. He takes some time to memorize the patterns of runes, trusting that later his ability to recover the memory of written text (Total Recall) will allow him to duplicate what he's seeing. I haven't seen rune combinations like this before, this structure may actually block dimension travel. This would be superb protection against attacks by the Splugorth or other supernatural beings. It will also make leaving this place difficult as well. He looks towards where the students are pointing. "Oh, I see. Those tents you say, thank you," Grant says as he turns his attention back to the structure for another minute or two.

He walks down and bumps into one of the recruiters giving the man the opportunity to give his speal. He waves off the flattery, "I have dabbled a bit in the arcane arts that is true, but I am a traveler, new to this place. I'm from the south west, near Houstown. We don't get much news about the east." He points up at the structure, "Tell me my friend, I can tell that there is strong magic at play here, what is this structure towering over us? I see many students, but you say that isn't enough, you are actively recruiting more for your, um, Omega Guard? Does the Omega guard have any allies with other magical kingdoms, or are they going it alone?" Grant looks at the recruiter with his inner eye (not actually casting See Aura), does he have a significant PPE pool? "Is it only those with arcane potential that you are recruiting or may anyone join?" He takes one of the proffered pamphlets. He glances through it looking for anything on what the Omega Guard actually 'guards' against. Who is the enemy? "I would like to see this swearing in ceremony. I hadn't planned to stay here more than a few days, but perhaps I can be convinced to stay longer." If asked for his name, he gives the name Kelex.

Once Grant has the time and location of the ceremony, he steps away walking further away from the Heroes Haven (as if he were continuing his walk). Once he's out of direct sight of the Collegiate Arcane (or whatever is called now), he turns and heads back to the Heroes Haven. When the team regroups, he says, "I've just returned from the Collegiate Arcane, there is a ceremony this afternoon for new recruits. I am going to attend to see what more I can find out. It's at [location] at [time]." If the invitation is open to anyone to view, he relays that as well. "I've given them a false name, Kelex. He's someone I worked with when performing my mandatory service for Dweomer. As far as the structure at the Collegiate Arcane, it does seem to have similar properties to a stone pyramid, but also may be dampening dimensional travel and teleportation. I am going to do a quick test before heading out to the ceremony." If Grant gained any info about whether Lazlo or Dweomer exist or are still independent city-states, he'll share that as well. Grant's preference would be to head to Dweomer if they don't appear to be compromised.

Inside the Heroes Haven, Grant will attempt to cast Mystic Portal to travel from one end of the building to the other to see if it still works correctly.

Keiko keeps Daisuke company while the others are out. She's not really invested in the show he is watching, but having exhausted her efforts in the "Haven" and not knowing if she will be safe outside she is left with little options. She looks over at his reaction to the show, "We're always the bad guys. Well it makes for good entertainment." Keiko doesn't seem put out by the use of Atlantis as the antagonist of the show, she's merely commenting.

When everyone returns and shares what the learn, Keiko keeps a keen ear to the discussion. She stifles a laugh at the revelation of Ronith being the emperor. "Well I guess you do have the drive to lead. Its not that far fetched to think if you had the opportunity to see your vision of the future realized that you would take it. In fact, I would hazard a guess that the Ronith here is not too different you. He likely saw a chance to make his vision a reality, in spite of the dangers of what it would cost him, he did what he felt was right with what was offered to him and likely dismissed any potential consequences as a hurdle to be over come later. As far leaving it should be a simple matter for a Shifter to get us home." Keiko swares under her breath, "I knew I should have talked with the shifters at the College when I had the chance. Well this does solidify my future plans. I'm getting training from a Shifter when we get back. Then we can go any where the jobs take us. And get back home when others deside experiment with dimensional pockets without telling the rest of us." Keiko smiles warmly at Grant and Daisuke. She seems more upset that she was left out of the experiment then anything else. She looks back to Grant, "So this device on the ley line. It was hindering dimensional travel? I wonder if it's using the power of the ley line to effectively seal off an area from dimensional travel. If there are others at other nexuses then they could effectively control the access to this dimension...well...at least parts of it. I have to imagine this device covers at least the area of MercTown, so the fact that we got through should be a sign that there is a way home." Keiko thinks for a moment, "You know, the TV show has Atlantis as the antagonist, that means Atlantis exists here. It's always been a dimensional hub. Also likely it's not under control of your...other self...you know I don't really know what to call the other you. Anyway, if we can make it there, and not get sold into slavery while in Atlantis, then there is a fair shot at finding a way home." Keiko's tail twitches behind her betraying a little anxiety and maybe a little intrigue at seeing a different version of Atlantis. "Just an idea. The currency over there varies from money to people to favors." I wonder what it's like, I wonder if it's the same. Would the Atlantis here be the same one existing in multiple dimensions simultaneously? Oh I really have to try and visit...even if I have to come back myself.

We find out what we can locally, but we may need to start thinking about trying somewhere else for help.”
Daisuke's eyes go wide at Ronith's debrief. He begins to pace while absorbing the information. Within the recesses of his mind, Jekyll and Hyde engage in a lively debate.

Oh yeah! Omega Ronith is a reality here!!!

If that is true, then I believe an epic duel between Omega Ronith and Days of Distant Past Ronith may be in our future.

You should be careful what you wish for. Omega Ronith may be quite formidable in combat. He IS actively engaged in Ragnarok, everlasting combat for survival, after all. Besides, those Omega Knights appear to have quite the sizeable amount of power themselves.

I don't WANT them to engage in an epic duel. I am simply saying that the possibility exists. I would much prefer that the two of them avoid conflict altogether.

Or... Kondo concludes before voicing the rest of his thought aloud.

"Ronith, my friend," Daisuke begins all of a sudden, his voice dripping with honey. "Do you not see the vast opportunity before you?"

Gesturing at the elven cyberknight's chest, then away at the phantom direction of where Emperor Turand might be on his high perch, he lays the idea out more fully. "You are he. He is you. If you do not like how his empire is structured and being run, why can you not do the greatest amount of good by simply being a BETTER Emperor Turand? If you took his place, then you could mold this reality into a proper utopia." Greed is plastered all over Daisuke's face, "And if the rest of us stumble upon inordinate wealth and power, then so be it." He states then seemingly brushes it away with the sweeping of his hand.

"Unless... such nepotism already exists in this reality." Daisuke's gaze flashes over to Grant. "The television mentioned earlier a King of New Paducah. Don't know who that is... shouldn't be difficult to find out. But maybe in this reality, that King is Omega Grant!?! King Latham of New Paducah! We should make sure we ask around to find out. This could be an empire already built by ourselves in an alternate dimension. And everything could be already set up for us to take over and make it better!" Though his words demonstrate overt selfishness, Daisuke seems wholly unaware of how such words might affect members of Heroes for Hire and he speaks them with sincere earnestness.

"Oh! Maybe King Latham, or Omega Grant has had such a device built in order to either siphon the dimensional energy for something important, or perhaps to prevent the arrival of some horrendously powerful entity that will spell the destruction of everything.... Ragnarok and all."

Regardless of whether his hare-brained ideas are accepted by the others, the Arismal is keen to get out on the streets with the other H4H members and find out more about this alternate reality (and how to best turn that knowledge into profit!)

Keiko smirks, "Not natively, no. But I called it home for a while. It can be a fun place to be in. You do have to constantly be on guard for kidnaping and slavers, but once you know your way around its not a bad place." Keiko looks at her current attire then back to Daisuke, "Well skin tight is a little different for me. My fur tends to get in the way with certain clothes. Why you think it would look good one me?" Keiko clasps her hands behind her, leans forward and rocks back and forth when asking the question. She grins as she returns to normal and sits back down.

When Daisuke mentions taking the places of the others. Keiko giggles but waits for him to finish before replying, "Daisuke, the idea has merit but your plan is terrible. If we were to do something like that you would need more information on your targets. Not just their schedules, but the mannerisms, differences in habits from our people to theirs. If they replaced their others they wouldn't be able to be a completely different person. That would negate any progress we would make and cause the loss of any current supporters of the others you want to be taking the place of. We would need to act like them and slow introduce changes in a natural way. Thus not raising any suspicions that we are not who we claim to be." Keiko speaks as someone with experience with taking over a different dimension. Or at least pretending to be someone else. Through it all, Keiko's sweet smile never leaves her face.

Re: Does Anybody Really Know What Time It is?

Post by Virtus »

Ronith examines the area for evil, the most likely of which may be one of the recruiters or students at the college. Nothing immediately jumps out at you, but it seems to be the most reasonable conclusion.

Grant makes his way to the tents and asks about the structure. The recruiter looks as well with what might be foreboding. "Those are one of Odin's wells. Many have been built. Supposedly it is keeping Ragnarok at bay. It subdues the ley lines so that none but Odin and his servant the Emperor can access the power. There are dozens of them across the lands, each one protecting a given area. As the Emperor liberates new lands, he builds new wells to protect the expanded area. It does mostly prevent the average person from accessing it however, but those blessed by the Emperor can still access it, such as the guard to a degree and more importantly the knights.

The Emperor has united most of the magical kingdoms under his protection. Lazlo still resists as does Atlantis, which is why we need recruits. Servants of chaos to the south is another front. The Vampire threat has been permitted too long. The Emperor says that the south will finally be returned to civility by the end of the year, which is where you come in. If we each do our part, we can win Ragnarok and secure our futures! Anyone can join the Guard, but if you have magic or other abilities you're a better candidate to join the Vanguard or the Omega Knights."

He hands Grant a flyer. "The practice intake will be tonight. Food and drinks are provided! Hope to you see you there. You look like a soldier we could use!" the recruiter says, laying it on thick.

If Daisuke decides to prod about, looking for more info on the King of Merctown.
OOC Comments
The King of Merctown is newly titled. The previous ruler was part of a rebellion against the Emperor. After his demise, Corwin became Lord of the River, King of Merctown. Apparently he is a close confidant of the Emperor. Since becoming king of Merctown, he's rooted out rebels in and around New Paducah. His campaign has been successful.
Keiko ponders on the restrictions and possibilities to get out of here. It seems likely to her that whatever is subduing the magic to likely not be an issue in Atlantis. It's quite possible that there are other areas outside of the Emperor's control.

To Ronith there are several possibilites that are realistic. He might be able to speak to the Emperor, using their duality to his advantage. Escaping the empire to then find a shifter to get back home. Join one side or the other and make this place home. Join the Guard to get access to magic. There are many others, but these are a few of the possibilities that enter his mind.

When Ronith decides to meet back up with the team, Barracuda is right behind him. "OK, this is not good. Both the existence of a universe where our fearless leader fearlessly leads a monoculture that's trying to take over the country and the part where we're stuck here. Maybe we can try to find a map or a history book or something. Oh wait, history is written by the victor. It's gonna be all Omega-y." We can try to magic our way out of it or maybe it's not actually all bad and we'd get along with Emperor Ronith. Make an interdimensional friend. "I don't know Dweomer from Lazlo. Whichever you magic folks think will get us home." I wonder what I'm like here. Maybe I decided to stay in Atlantis or something. Or maybe I'm dead. I'm probably just dead.

Daisuke's mouth drops open when his research comes across this delectable nugget. He looks around with a crazed frenzy for someone to share the information with.

Omega Corwin is King of Merctown. Barracuda's Omega form is a rebel-slaying bad-ass!

That would complicate your plans for us to replace them...

Hmm, how so?

Presumably a duplicate body-swap plan is contingent upon simultaneous replacement of the individuals in question, otherwise the ones remaining may notice discrepancies.... Wait, why am I even remotely entertaining this wretched idea?!

Kondo relishes a moment in the delicious tension his lack of a reply creates in the silence.

Then, still in control, he flips on the team comms. Happily sharing the intel.

"Good news! Omega Corwin is Lord of the River, KING of MercTown! And he is close friends with Emperor Omega Ronith, and has recently successfully rooted out rebels in and around the city." Daisuke grins to himself, leaving it to others to speculate whether the news he bears is in fact "Good".

As the team regroups, Ronith ponders the information everyone has gathered, as well as their suggestions for a way forward.

Ronith smiles. ”Not in Tolkeen I didn’t. The war and the cyber-knight schism nearly broke me, and for a year or two I found solace in the bottle. It was only upon coming to MercTown that I was able to begin finding myself again. I still can’t help but think there is something else pulling the strings here. Something that is only pretending to be Odin. Whatever it is they’ve done to the ley lines in this ‘empire’, it is unlike anything I have ever seen. While it's possible some sort of fundamental law of magic or science is different in this reality, to my mind that further my suspicions that something deific is involved.” Or worse.
Daisuke wrote: Wed Jan 11, 2023 12:45 pm"Ronith, my friend," Daisuke begins all of a sudden, his voice dripping with honey. "Do you not see the vast opportunity before you... You are he. He is you. Ronith pauses. Utopia is tempting. But something is definitely wrong with Daisuke. He was never this concerned with personal profit before. A younger Ronith might have given into the temptation- to use any means at his disposal to force a paradise on the world. But this Ronith lived through a dark age. He saw his fair share of authoritarians come and go- each with big plans and even bigger promises. The problem is, they never last. So he shakes his head and replies. ”Absolute rule and an ends-justify-the-means attitude can only end with tragedy, or worse. More to the point, I sincerely doubt that whoever is behind this ‘emperor’ would simply allow us to replace him. Even if we could successfully deceive his subordinates, our world needs us much more than the denizens of this one. If nothing else, my doppelganger appears to be successfully managing the random rifts.”

Ronith smiles at the joke. So Barracuda and I managed to find each other here, too. Curious. I wonder how much of the rest of the team has risen to prominence in this ‘empire.’ I suppose we should be thankful that no-one on the streets has recognized any of us. Having weighed the options, Ronith comes to a decision and lays it out for the team.

Turning to Keiko Ronith says ”The Splugorth certainly have the expertise to assist us in this matter, but to be frank I wouldn’t put it past them to just rift us to a slave world and try to hold us there. Then there’s the fact that approaching Atlantis by sea is a dicey proposition at best. I think that this option is best saved as a last resort.”

”We’ve heard no mention of Dweomer- it could have been annihilated or incorporated, or it could be that the city is just as adept at concealing itself in this timeline as it is in ours. In any event, I think that its relative proximity to MercTown makes it as good a choice as any. If the city is still free, it could be a useful opportunity to rest and learn more about this timeline without fear of discovery. If it is not, well, that will also tell us something about my double’s intentions. And nothing good. ”The city is more or less on the way to Lazlo, which as it stands likely offers us the best chance at getting home from North America. I suggest we make our way there by way of Dweomer- we use the opportunity to keep a low profile and learn more. If nothing else, I would hope that we could prevail upon the mages at Lazlo to rift us to Atlantis, should all else fail. Alternatively, as we learn more we may be able to put together a feasible plan to take advantage of some of our… similarities, but I would like to know more about this emperor and his Omega Knights before we commit to that.” Turning to Grant, Ronith says ”Do you think there is value in attending this ceremony? I suspect that they will have little information for us beyond propaganda, but we can scope it out if you think it’s worth it. But be careful- the near-universal religious fervor with which these people regard their government is quite unsettling, and I wouldn’t put it past them to use some hex or poison to get new recruits. Otherwise, I think we should quit pushing our luck, get some sort of transport, and get out of MercTown while we still can.”

With the recruiter:

Odin's wells? And they are all over the place? Grant help but let a frown slip out for a moment and his eyes drop. Those poor lines trapped, unable to share. Do I ask how much of a ley line each of these 'wells' control? No, I will just need to find out on my own. Realizing his expression, Grant's eyes pop up and catching up on the conversation, says, "Yes, the vampire scourge is a never ending problem. Letting even one escape, just causes a new nest to appear."

When the recruiter mentions the Vanguard and Omega Knights for those who are capable of magic, Grant asks, "The Emperor has two magical defense forces? What is the difference between these Vanguard and Omega Knights? Do they serve different roles in preventing Ragnorak?"

Grant asks no further questions, and smiles at the recruiter when he is handed the flyer. "Thank you, I will make the effort to see the intake ceremony tonight. The threat you've described must not be allowed to happen."

On the way back to the Haven, Grant tries to see if he can Ley Line phase with the dampening effect of Odin's well in place. Walking back, he ponders. Denying supernatural creatures access to the ley lines is a solid defense in keeping people safe. But I am not sure if the cost is worth it. These ley lines deserve to be free. I will have to find a way to destroy these wells if this threat of Ragnarok isn't real.

Keiko stifles a laugh. When Corwin returns, Keiko casually bumps into him as they all listen to Ronith. She whispers to him, "Anything I can do for you...My Lord?" Keiko, unsuccessfully, tries to keep an evil grin from her face.

Keiko nods in agreement. "I couldn't agree more. I'm surprised we have had this long to linger about. This place has been deserted for a little while so it's odd that it wasn't recorded as abandoned. And I wouldn't actually recommend the splugorth. They would definitely makes slaves of all of us. But if it comes to it there are many independent entities operating in Atlantis that would likely be a safe option for dimensional travel." Keiko pauses for a moment and tilts her head to the side as a though occurs to her, "So. If we are going to head to a place your "Omega" versions haven't taken over, then how much trouble would we be in if they recognized any of us in those places? It sounds like war in on the horizon, so I can't imagine we would receive a friendly welcome. Kind of feel like we are damned if we do, damned if we don't. I have the fake ID's I made for everyone before we got transported here, but I'm not sure if they would pass muster being from a completely different dimension. Anyway. Lets get out of here." Keiko readies herself to leave and stands next to Corwin. Interesting place. I will have to come back to examine these leyline dampeners for myself. Lots of good information can come from them. Ugh I have to find a shifter to teach me more about dimensional travel and theories...orrr...I know they can get powers from deities too. Find a god of magic, maybe something like that. Keiko lets a smile creep across her face as she thinks of the possibility of making her own dimension. Nothing too big, just about the size of a house.

The Recuiter seems to be pleased that Grant is taking an interest and boasts about the greatness of joining the Emporer's army. "All members of the Emporer's forces serve a vital role in preventing Ragnarok! The Omega Knights as the best of the best, the Elites of the Army. The Vanguard Unit represents the Emperor in far off lands and stands as the pinnacle of a magical fighting force! Come by tonight to learn more, there will be several guest speakers from both units, and I'm sure they'd be arguing over you, sir! Look forward to seeing you there!" The recruiter presses on. Grant won't be able to get much more detailed information than that from the recruiter.

As the team reconvenes and shares information, Barracuda expresses his growing concern for the team's situation, though resigns to follow the lead of the more magically inclined. Grant notes his ability to phase is dampened as well, the magic diluted, polluted or siphoned away. Daisuke is able to keep a furry companion relatively intrigued on his shoulder, his own heightened sense making him acutely aware of the guards moving in packs and how out of place it feels for Merctown. Keiko taunts Lord Corwin of the River after the title and stature of his and Ronith's Omega's are revealed. Ronith seems to dismiss the idea of replacing his omega-counterpart and has a growing concern that not all is right with this dimension.

Unsure of a path forward, Dweomer and Lazlo come to mind. If this dimensions Dweomer is as skilled in hiding, and is in fact not apart of this Empire, than it would be even more challenging to find. Though there is still so little information though the chance still remains this dimensions' Dweomer is this Empire's capitol. Grant still has the invitation to the gathering tonight that'll offer more information about the Emporer's forces with four hours until the dinner (6PM), giving the team plenty of time to do some more investigating around Omega-Merctown and figuring a way out of the city.

"I understand, Ronith my friend." Daisuke acknowledges, then with great enthusiasm, he announces, "I volunteer to spearhead the 'Get out of MercTown' effort!"

Pointing in the direction of where the Haven Garage and Workshop used to be, Daisuke details his plan, "First, we will open door number three! And see if there is anything useful in the Garage!" The gleam in the Arismal's eyes are bright, lucid, but faraway. Secretly, Kondo hopes their transportation woes are not solved so easily and he must proceed with part two of his plan.

"Afterward, I shall get dressed and blend into the general population, undercover, poking my head this way and that. And see if I can't discover what the protocol is for egress from this city. There were many mercenary equipment commercials on the television, so I believe New Paducah is still filled with warriors for hire!"

And while we are out, let us also see if we can find out more information about this rebel group that was recently defeated. Who was their leader, where was their power base, and what were they rebelling against.

But... that sounds entirely too reasonable.

Ho ho ho, yes, I feel your disappointment. You will see soon enough though. Kondo's way is both ingenius AND practical!

Assuming nobody stops him, Daisuke will purposefully neglect to mention a return time or location. But will put his plan to action, squirrel on his shoulder, the loyal sidekick and voices in his head keeping him company.

Daisuke's Plan:
  • Check garage for vehicles. If they exist, see if they can be turned on.
  • Dig through clothing options to dress appropriately to fit in (as per background individuals (plainclothes, without armor) in the Paducah Knights TV show he was watching earlier). Also, try to find loose credits or whatever passes for money in this dimension. Detect Concealment. d%: [49] = 49 | 71%. If found, pocket the money.
  • Leave the Haven to go looking for information.
    • Undercover Ops. d%: [90] = 90 | 81% <== Maintain cover
    • Streetwise. d%: [99] = 99 | 57% <== Try to find connections for "word on the street"
    • ID Undercover Agents. d%: [17] = 17 | 87% <== Identify anyone surreptitiously watching/following him.
    • Interrogation. d%: [68] = 68 | 91% <== Ask around for information about both official and unofficial means to get in and out of the city.
    • Intelligence. d%: [90] = 90 | 73% and Research. d%: [3] = 3 | 66% <== Try to find out about "rebel group" and who (or where) the fallen rebel leader was that King Corwin just defeated.
    • (if needed) Find Contraband. d%: [45] = 45 | 68% <== If a particular pass is required to get in/out, try to find a source to obtain the necessary documentation.
  • Find himself some proper food and drink

Grant has much to consider as he makes his way back to the Heroes Haven. The recruiter had provided him an opportunity to learn more about the differences in this dimension compared to his own.

He walks into the Haven and sit's down heavily on a couch in the main room accepting a cup of whatever everyone else is drinking. The recap makes him pause as he adds this to what he has learned. Sir Ronith is an emperor in this land, and Corwin is a king? I knew Corwin said he was a prince in his own land, but he doesn't seem to want to be in command unless necessary and hasn't seemed that interested in returning to his home. I could see Sir Ronith taking on the mantle if it were thrust upon him by necessity, but not by choice. This is a land of opposites. With two of us represented here, I wonder what presence the rest of us have?

When it's Grant's turn to speak he says, "There is a swearing in ceremony in a few hours that is open, if not to the public, to those interested in joining. It may be worth attending to see if we can learn more about what threats exist here. The Atlantis in this realm is also deemed a threat and apparently so is Lazlo. The tall structure at the Collegiate Arcane is called 'Odin's Well'. It's the cause of the reduced magical energy of the ley lines. The recruiter I spoke with said that these structures are in many places and are actively preventing or delaying a cataclysmic event. He called it Ragnarok."

He continues after taking a sip of a drink "Like a stone pyramid, they regulate the flow of magical energy, but to a much stronger degree. Rather than helping regulate a ley line, it seems to actually draw the energy towards it as well as inhibit translocational magic. To create such a structure is the work of a genius, a mad genius. Ley lines are a natural part of the world, controlling them this way is, well, I would consider it torture. If I could figure out a way of destroying the well, I would."

When the talk turns to going to Atlantis to get back to their own dimension, Grant frowns and shakes his head. "We just need to find out how much of the ley lines an individual Well can control. If we can find a spot on one the ley lines that I can access it's energy, I could get us home. It's hundreds if not a thousand miles away from here at least to Atlantis, we'd most likely be captured trying to just get there. I wasn't able to confirm anything about the status of Dwoemer, so it would seem like Lazlo might be our best bet, if we can't find out anything further in town." Grant puts his glass down and puts his hands together, finger tips touching making a triangular shape, "However, for all that we've learned, I don't think we have established that Emperor," his lips twist into a grin, "Ronith, is actually the bad guy here. He may actually be fighting for a worthwhile cause. That being said, I think it is worth spending at least one more night in town and attending the ceremony tonight."

A moment’s pause betrays Ronith’s hesitation. It may be best to harness his new… impulses, rather than fight them for the time being. Just gotta send Daisuke with someone who’ll make sure he keeps a low profile. ”Good idea. Barracuda, go with him. Look for a vehicle that’s been abandoned or lain unused for a while. I’d prefer to avoid outright theft if we can, if only to avoid having to worry about being chased. Something inconspicuous is better than something fast, although I wouldn’t mind having armaments if it comes down to it.” Try not to get too gleeful about that one, Daisuke.

Keiko, go with him. Try not to get indoctrinated or anything, although if the ceremony is in the open that’s a little encouraging. I shall try to observe from a distance- if nothing else I want to see what I can sense. We see what we can learn about what they’ve done to the ley lines, then we regroup with transport and get of the city. From there we can assess whether direct to a ley line or all the way to Lazlo is our best bet. Anything else?”

Once they’re done with the briefing, Ronith will dismiss the team and let Grant take point. The cyber-knight will try to strike a delicate balance between looking inconspicuous and not looking like he’s trying to look inconspicuous. He won’t obviously creep about, but he will keep his step light and stick to the shadows as he can easily do so. When they arrive at the ceremony, Ronith will keep his distance from Grant and Keiko but try to keep them in vision at all times. He will also look for a secure, secluded vantage point- ideally somewhere shadowed that he can leap or levitate to, then hide and observe the proceedings (physically and psionically) without being observed himself. That said avoiding notice is his top priority, so no matter what he will try to stay out of sight without looking like he’s skulking. Once Ronith is satisfied he’s found the best spot he can, he will hunker down and watch. When the ceremony starts, he will activate sense evil ((-2 ISP)).

Keiko listens to Daisuke and Grant speak. Still mostly the same information as before. Daisuke is getting a little overly aggressive in his attempts to be useful. I'm getting worried. I wonder... Keiko's ears flick when she hears her name. "Yay! Keiko squeaks, "Sorry I've been going a little stir crazy in here. Keiko gives a little hip check to Barracuda before she moves away, "Have fun out there. Don't do anything I wouldn't do." Keiko almost bounces over to Grant, excitement to actually see the differences outside.

Keiko leaves with Grant. Once they are outside Keiko speaks up, "So given what's happened and they way Daisuke has been acting. Do you think it's possible he is actually from this dimension and we some how left our Daisuke back in our dimension? I've never seen him act this way, but you have been around him longer then I have so I was hoping you have a better handle on his personality quirks." Keiko lets them walk for a little while longer, "You said you wished the leylines could be free. I'm interested to see what has them confined and controlled. Why do you wish to see them free? Would it not be better to learn how to control them? Could be useful information down the line. To truly control a leyline...could you imagine the power your would have with one at your control?" Keiko sounds like she's daydreaming, a light air in her voice. Yet a hint of wonder in her words. She seems to be generally fascinated by how the feat was accomplished. "I wonder if it was your alternate who came up with them. I bet it was."

Keiko will keep talk about the leyline to when they are alone. Once they reach the ceremony she will watch the proceedings with Grant.

The crew reconvenes at not-Haven to continue discussing a plan of action after a brief reconnaissance was done. Any reminiscence of their old Haven is gone and has been utterly replaced by this building in its steed. Barracuda and Daisuke check the garage and does not find a vehicle, but instead is full of hap-hazardly packed containers, some completely empty and others full of old clothing, personal items and the like. A photo of a youthful looking man with a family is found in one of the containers, the man had obviously unkempt hair and and the woman had lighter brown hair that nearly fell to her waist. Daisuke can place the photo as being taken in the living room on the first floor of the not-Haven. Daisuke can find nothing inherently valuable however he does find a manifest; this stuff was supposed to be commercially transported out of Omega-Merctown some time ago but it still sits.

Having won the argument to stay in Merctown and investigate the ceremony, Grant and Keiko head into Omega-Merctown to walk along the old Ley Line paths they are familiar with to see if there is any inkling of magic Grant can access. Much to the disappointment of both, they can spend a good amount of time walking and will find that the Well has essentially muted it entirely from them. When the pair try asking about the Well, they find the subject to be highly avoided; especially by any magic users that aren't wearing Omega colors, as if speaking about it might attract undue attention.

Daisuke and Barracuda also head out into Omega-Merctown with a different intent, spear-heading the backup to delta when needed. The pair head to the old Job Market Cafe and find it to be known as the "Omega's Contractor's Cafe" which is a farcry from the JMC they knew and loved. First and foremost, it isn't located in the Hub anymore, but rather in the Contractor's District which both recognize as the older Arms Bazaar. This one also has a pair of Omega Guards standing out front and the mercenaries, if that's what they passed as, didn't have the hoop and hollar that the OG Merctown does. Asking around inside, Daisuke learns from a one of the squatting mercenaries that leaving Pudacah requires the proper forms be filed, and be approved. If you're a citizen of capable age and ability, they scrutinize why you are leaving to the point of stopping people from leaving. Another merc, a slim one wearing a mask and coat, when he removes the mask to take a drink, Diasuke can spot parts of a scarred face, stops Daisuke as he and Barracuda are on their way out. "Something tells me this city doesn't jive with you either, friend. You looking for a way out of the city, you need the Spade. He has drop points all over, just look for the

He draws up on a napkin to show the pair. A loud noise is heard as a pair of Omega Knights enter the building which prompts the masked man to leave without much of a trace.

Ronith scouts out by himself to track down the site of the ceremony. He finds it to be increasingly challenging to avoid being seen as he nears city center where the old Hub used to be. Several buildings in the Hub are conspicuously absent or changed; the stone tower in the Hub has completely vanished, as has the Naruni Enterprise building. Merctown Hospital is arguably one of the most defended building. The former Mercenary Plaza has been highly militarized, flying Omega-Knight colors and promoting a grand event, likely used for when his Omega-self directly addresses the city, or the Regent. The location of the ceremony in question is taking place at the Parade Grounds, which was good for Ronith as it gave him a much more open vantage. He is able to find a emptied house nearby that is in a similar state to their not-Haven and hunker down until go time.

[15 minutes before the Ceremony begins.]

Ronith starts noticing activity well before go time, from different craft flying in to a visible and bonafide dimensional portal with what looks like several squads marching out of. The Parade grounds went from relatively quiet to busy and locked down. The streets surrounding the grounds were being cleared and people were being shuffled away; it was a good thing he hunkered down beforehand. At roughly 30 minutes to go time, Ronith notes several groups of civilians, contractors and others beginning to make their way to the Ceremony.

Daisuke and Barracuda have time to catch up to Grant and Keiko for the ceremony if they want. Neither of them find any markings on their walk if they were looking, but the chances of it being hidden in plain sight where just anyone could see it on the street are slim. Grant and Keiko can join one of the groups heading to the ceremony, Keiko notes that while in a minority, there are other D-bees around in this group as well.

Daisuke flashes Barracuda an enthusiastic (borderline manic) smile. And waves the Prince of Lemuria forward with excitement. As they head toward the garage, a discussion rages between the Arismal's personalities.

What a great suggestion! Sir Ronith has paired us up with Barracuda, Prince Corwin of Lemuria!

Yes, Corwin has always been a stalwart companion and quite competent in all that he does.

No no, you don't see the great opportunity we have. CORWIN of Lemuria...

...

Sometimes it is difficult that you are so dense and do not see such obvious opportunities. Who is the current ruler of Omega MercTown?

Omega Corwin.

And who are we going to see the city with?

Original Corwin.

...

...

How can you be this dense?! He will be recognized, or if not, we can use his notoriety to get the access we want!

Not particularly subtle. I'm not certain you have thought this through.

Good thing I'm in charge then and we don't have to think ANYTHING through like you've always done with nauseating and exhausting deliberation. You will soon see... This will be the best way.

"Lazy Jill of Game-House" Daisuke declares while holding up the family photo. Barracuda's blank stare reminds the Arismal that his previous joke (which also fell flat then to Grant) needed some more explanation. "Lahzuhr Jyleal D'Gemmel. Upstairs Grant and I discovered a letter of summons into service to the Emperor."

Pointing at the photo then at the containers and then finally at the manifest, Daisuke explains the connections to Barracuda, slipping in embellishments and flair into the story, "Well my friend, when we put the clues together, we see that the prior resident of Omega-Haven was Lahzuhr Jyleal D'Gemmel. A family man of great devotion, was very sadly separated from his family when he was drafted into the Omega military." Tapping his temple to suggest ingenuity, Daisuke continues, "But Mister D'Gemmel was clever and did not want his family to suffer, so tried to make arrangements to smuggle his family and their stuff out of the city and to somewhere else he deemed 'safe'. Clearly the 'stuff' did not make it. But one can only imagine that he was more diligent with the relocation of his family. Hence why Omega-Haven is not currently occupied." Best not to mention the darker possibility that his family was captured and imprisoned. Yes of course I was not going to say that. Why must you ALWAYS be a downer?!

Daisuke makes a mental note of the vendor and date on the manifest to better understand how long ago the request was made (once they have a current date/time to go by) and perhaps what commercial vendor to avoid (or ask questions about) later as a potential avenue of investigation. He tucks both the photo and the manifest into a pocket on his person.

Despite his extreme disappointment at Barracuda not being instantly recognized, hailed and bowed to, Daisuke nonetheless maintains his cover as the two head into the cafe and ply the occupants for information. The Arismal remains upbeat and filled with gratitude for anyone who offers them tidbits of information (even negative information).

Daisuke nods in gratitude, then glances at the symbol quickly, committing it to memory, before tucking it away for later.

Then, doing a poor job of reading the room (both the general vibe and also the warning tone issued by the scarred man), Daisuke turns toward the pair of Omega Knights and makes an ostentatious greeting, likely shattering the solemnity of the room.

"Hello my friends!" he exclaims as he heads toward the Omega Knights, his unarmored and unarmed person standing in stark contrast to his ebullient personality, seemingly wearing a coat of supreme confidence. "You two have the look of Omega Knights. I saw some great shows about you! Tell me, do you arm-wrestle each other to see who is strongest?!"

Like a fanboy that doesn't know any better, Daisuke will approach the two. If allowed to approach and engage, he will enthusiastically pepper them with questions that had entered his mind back when he was watching the television show. And the Arismal tries to assess how much truth there was to the Omega Knight's purported abilities.

Ronith will continue to hunker down and avoid notice. He’s tempted to try and read the surface thoughts of the Omega Knights that arrive through the dimensional portal, if only to locate its terminus, but the cyber-knight thinks better of it. Too risky. There’s no telling how many of them might be a strong enough psychic to detect my intrusion, and most likely they’re coming from Tolkeen or one of the occupied territories anyway. Nowhere we want to be going. If he thinks he can do so without being heard, Ronith will quietly whisper into his radio ”Barracuda. Status report.” Other than that, Ronith will sit down to wait.

With plans set to stay one more night, Grant uses the time before the ceremony to replenish his magical and psychic reserves meditating in his room until the alarm goes off signally it's time to go. He listens to Keiko's theory. "I too have noticed that he is acting distinctly different from what we have been used to. While we were investigating the house, I did take the chance to scan his thoughts. I am not positive, but I think he spends a lot of time talking to himself. At moments, it was like he was have a full conversation with himself. However, I think it's doubtful that he is from this dimension, and it seems improbable that he's from a third reality from our own. Fact number one: Heroes' Haven appears to be owned by someone else, and this Daisuke appears to know us and not know him. Fact number two: When we shifted here, he was attempting the dimensional pocket experiment with me."

We've gone through multiple chaotic dimensional events in the last few days and weeks, perhaps this shift in personality is some sort of PTSD coping mechanism, Grant thinks as he's remind from his own therapy sessions while at the University of Lazlo and his own quirk as they called it regarding his knowledge about the nature of Ley Lines. The surprise on his face shows when Keiko asks about his comment about the ley lines, "It's well documented by Ley Line Walkers, that when they meditate on a ley line at times, they've heard voices and learned dimensional magic seemingly spontaneously. I myself have done this on multiple occasions. It's also known that the energy in ley lines is created by life. There are some who use this knowledge and actual do ritual sacrifices to gain the energy from other living beings by killing them. At death, the mind and soul flare release a burst of energy greater than what the person could typically access. Magic too is often shaped by the wielders thoughts. That's why there are different 'types' of magic. Some use spells, technowizards embue objects. Marit draws runes. Some of the scholars at Lazlo theorized that the coming of the rifts was caused by a cataclym where millions, perhaps billions of living creatures died all at once. I think some of those souls or minds were merged into the ley lines we have now. When I meditate upon the lines, a name often comes to me out of no where, and I realize that's the ley line's name. If it has a name, then it has to be alive in some fashion."

"There are stone pyramids that help regulate the flow of magical energy. A ley line storm is always a dangerous spectacle when they occur. That is tolerable. But Odin's Wells do more than that, it's being drawn ravenously without regard." Anger flashes in his eyes when she suggests his doppelganger created them, and his tone becomes stern, "If that is true and we meet, he will have much explaining to do."

Once at the ceremony, he looks for seats or a place to stand that will allow for a discreet (and quick) exit.

Keiko nods to Grant's description of Daisuke, "Ok. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the change. Conversations in his head? Huh. Well I guess we'll just have to make sure he doesn't do anything too rash." Keiko chuckles to herself, "If Venenifer could her me say those words...Sorry. I used to be the impulsive one. An old friend would likely give me a hard time with how responsible I've become."

Keiko doesn't interrupt Grant's explanation of the ley lines. Fit's with what I know and have seen. I wonder why he thought I didn't know those basic things about ley lines? I mean I guess they have names. Never really concerned me before. Still doesn't. Keiko regards Grant for just a moment, "That's some anger you have there Grant. Sounds like you don't agree with what has been done to the ley lines here. Sorry. Wasn't trying to pry."

Once at the ceremony, Keiko will stay near Grant. Keiko is grateful grant is looking for easy exits. "Glad there are other D-Bees here. I hate it when I have to hide who I am." Keiko giggles a little before quietly saying to Grant, "I guess we are all technically D-Bees here." Keiko watches the ceremony. She keeps alert to any dimensional disturbances that may be created while the ceremony is being conducted.

Barracuda gives Daisuke a confused look as the jumble of words comes out of his mouth. What. The. Hell.

"Oh! I get it now. It was a funny." So not funny.
Daisuke wrote: Tue Feb 21, 2023 10:55 am "Well my friend, when we put the clues together, we see that the prior resident of Omega-Haven was Lahzuhr Jyleal D'Gemmel. Hence why Omega-Haven is not currently occupied."
"You know, that makes sense. With a military force the size needed to be this in charge, I can't imagine a draft not happening. I just hope they all made it out OK. Do his clothes fit?" Barracuda looks for any items that might fit his understanding of the team's respective sizes.

Striking out, he heads with Daisuke to the Job Market Cafe which much to his dismay, has been rebranded and relocated. "Daisuke, this sucks. This place sucks, this dimension sucks, and surprisingly, I'm not a fan of this Ronith. Ours is great though." The info that they can't get out without papers really messes things up. He pays close attention when the merc gives them information about The Spade. "A clue!" Barracuda says as the Omega Knights enter. He stays seated as Daisuke approaches members of the controlling force of this city. Oh god, please don't get us caught dude. I don't want to have to run out of here.

[Contractor's Cafe]
Daisuke and Barracuda

Back at the Contractor's Cafe, Daisuke and Barracuda remained in effort to find the one who vanished after dropping the line about the Spade. Barracuda radios back to Ronith as Daisuke begins engaging the pair of Omega Knights that have entered the Cafe. Barracuda can immediately see several heads turn away and try to hide the fact they are watching as Daisuke willingly engages the Knights.

The Knights stop when Daisuke approaches them, glancing at each other before one of them seems to scoff. "Huh, that's a first. A Merc willingly talking to us." The knights eyes narrow slightly beneath the armor. The knights don't stop Daisuke from approaching, however the second knight does stop him from asking questions. "Enough. We are here on business and as the most talkative person here, tell me if you've heard any rumors about illegal activities. We've been tracking a criminal in the area, calls himself the Masked Blade. We know he was here recently." The Knight states. "Overkill, in my opinion." The first knight comments before the second one looks back then returns to Daisuke. The knight pulls up a holo picture of the same person who drew the image of the Spade for him not a few moments ago.

Barracuda remains seated at the bar, watching the interaction. He can see the second knight appears to carry the command between the two and is curiously zeroed in on Daisuke. The second knight seems to be scanning the room [Both, Save v Psionics]

[The Parade grounds]
Everyone else

Ronith continues to observe from a distance, his excellent sight bringing his gaze back as another portal opens up. This one is off from the main route, still inside the parade grounds but behind official lines. The portal that opens looks annoyingly familiar to the knight as he props in his hiding spot. Though he can't make out any details on who walks through, this has far less people filter through and they walk straight inside the large parade building's side entrance. Ronith also notes a civilian crowd has begun to form well beyond the military perimeter around the parade grounds, it's also filled with mercenary types though everyone appears unarmed.

Keiko and Grant both notice that there are apparent groups at this ceremony that are separated by Omega Knights and other identifiers. While on approach, the pair of them and a few others are moved to another group (call it C group). Both Grant and Keiko recognize the group they are in is one filled predominately with strong magic users (a sense magic or see auras gets a solid magic ping from everyone in the group, both other groups are either psionic or cybernetic in auras). The groups have outdoor seating arrangements with a perimeter surrounded with several vehicles reminiscent of tolkeen or other such places, only far modified with a more norse feel. Grant can see the Parade Grounds aren't fenced, just secured with a presence and notes there is a civilian crowd that has formed well beyond the perimeter.

Grant's attention is immediately drawn to the stage as he detects an immediate outswelling of magic as an

in red and black takes the stage, his voice booms powerfully enough that even Ronith hears it clearly. "GREETINGS PROSPECTS! IT IS I, YOUR REGENT CORWIN!" He bellows, Grant, Keiko and Ronith all see the surrounding Omega Guards go "Oh! Oh!" and stamp either their feet or weapon onto the ground. If Grant or Keiko use Sense Magic or Evil on him, they get a positive ping on both. "TONIGHT! Tonight, I talk about two of our most elite initiatives; The Omega Vanguards and the Omega Knights! FIRST, the KNIGHTS. What are Knights if not guardians, peace keepers, warriors of the PEOPLE! The Omega Knights represent that in soul and spirit, NOW!" He says as he seemingly pulls an impressive looking trident out of nowhere and smashes the hilt on the stage. One of the two guardsmen that had arrived flanking Regent Corwin steps forward and salutes the center of the city, then Regent Corwin, then turns and takes a fighting stance towards the crowd. "One of our Omega Knights has volunteered to demonstrate what an Omega Knight can do." He says, his voice carrying far enough to send the civilian crowd into a murmur. Ronith starts noticing a few hooded people moving in the civilian crowd who don't move like spectators.

TThe Omega Knight grips their fist and a psionic lance forms in their hand as the smash it to the ground and are suddenly donned with near translucent and regal armor. The Knight steps forward with one foot and thrust the lance forward, one arm coming up and forming a psionic shield wall. "One Omega Knight is a wall. Several are a BASTION! The first Code of the Knight is to Defend. The Second is Loyalty." Regent Corwin s states as he walks around the knight. "The Trails of the Knight are grueling but open to all prospects here. " Regent Corwin continues as he sweeps his own trident to the side and the Omega Knight's lance, shield and armor vanishes as they step back. Grant and Keiko both recognize some magical properties of the trident carried by the Regent, as do a few others. The pair hear some murmurs in their group about the Regent's deal for the Seas. "More of the Knights will be demonstrated to those who complete Phase One of the Prospect Event. Until then, the Omega Vanguard."

The other one steps forward, then lurches into the air in armor that is flying on no apparent propulsion. The Vanguard draws out their hand and Grant can sense the magic in use from the Vanguard, potent magic. "The Omega Vanguard are empowered not only by themselves, but they are blessed by Odin himself on this campaign. Their power is fueled by the Wells to bring an END to these conflicts and bring PEACE to this PLANET!" Regent Corwin states, his voice booming. "For I have seen the dangers out there, beyond the boarders of our fair little world! The pain, the EVIL. It's MADDENING. The Vanguard will FACE THAT EVIL WHEREVER IT APPEARS." Regent says, gripping his free fist and closing his eyes. Keiko can see his nostrils actually flared a bit. Keiko and Grant can also hear whispers from someone behind them. "Almost time. 5 minutes, be ready." Though if they look, they can't tell who said it.

With a slight tug here and a straightening brush there, Daisuke helps Barracuda with the finishing touches of his undercover outfit. "Magnifico, my friend! It is as though I instantly accept you as among the rabble underclass of this planet, remarkable!" Irrespective of whether Barracuda's chosen clothes were of quality make or shabby, the Prince of Lemuria may feel as though Daisuke has casually nudged him with a gentle verbal insult. But there is no outright malice on the Arismal's face as he continues to admire the outfit. "Come come, let's run through your background story together. You were turned out on the streets at an early age due to your spice-riddled mother's need for cheap credits. Turning tricks proved profitable and you soon developed a reputation on the street. You are now known as... La Velveeta! For your soft, velveteen feel." Daisuke nods slowly at his own genius.

Goddamn it! What're you doing?! Stop insulting my teammates!

Tsk tsk tsk, I told you before, trust in Kondo. You will soon see my genius.

I swear, I'm taking back over...

You can certainly try.

"Yes yes my friend, the suckiness of this dimension is unquestioned! Just imagine how wonderful it would be if you could replace Omega Corwin here. And make things to your own liking! Daisuke coos in reply, doing a fair impression of the devil's advocate over one's shoulder.

"Oh yes, of course! A man of directness, fortitude and clarity!" Daisuke is about to continue on with effusive praise or verbal deflection when the second pipes up.
Zoe Barenger wrote: Tue Feb 28, 2023 6:25 pm"Overkill, in my opinion."
Glancing between the two, Daisuke finds himself nodding in agreement. "A task that shouldn't trouble TWO fine Omega Knights such as yourselves. I think... You should arm-wrestle, and the winner can go home to a bubble bath instead of this mundane," the Arismal yawns in exaggerated fashion, "remedial task."

If Daisuke is brought back on task either by verbal, physical recrimination, or the holo picture, the Arismal will do as directed.

"Illegal activities, oh, yes, abundant." Daisuke says, pursing his lips in a pout of grand emphasis. "But topmost on your mind is this... Masked Knife-man."

Nodding in the affirmative, Daisuke spills the proverbial beans, "Knife-man was here. He spoke to me. Whispered the key to my many dilemmas being new to this grand city here. He said... That I should jive in this city, and leave many droppings," Daisuke waggles all ten of his fingers as if he was playing aerial piano or guiding a marionette, "I can only assume that he was referring to mouse droppings. He disappeared moments after imparting his sage wisdom."

Jerking a thumb at the squirrel placidly perched on his shoulder, Daisuke concludes, "I hope Samson here is ready to volunteer for the cause!"

As if on cue, the squirrel defecates on Daisuke's shoulder much to the Arismal's apparent delight, "Oh look my friends, the first deposit! I must leave it somewhere prominent!"

Picking up the tic-tac sized excrement with thumb and index finger, he holds it aloft before the two Omega Knights. "Suggestions?" Daisuke asks in earnest.

To identify the strengths/weaknesses of Darth Barracuda, particularly any noteworthy deviations from the hero we all know and love.

Ronith spends some time studying the portal and trying to place the nagging sense of familiarity it gives him, but ultimately he gives up the job with a soft grunt of frustration. Almost certainly it doesn’t go anywhere we want to. As the action settles down, Ronith allows his thoughts to wander even as he continues to keep an eye on the crowd from his concealed position. Perhaps all this skulking about is a mistake. Surely, whatever is influencing my double cannot have completely changed his… my nature, could it? Could all decency have been expunged? Or would this emperor listen to reason, even lend us his aid? I could leave the team, approach him openly, and fight my way out if he turns. Is there really that much to lose? Whereas, if we are caught out and labeled as spies or saboteurs, we lose any chance to establish a rapport with the dominant power bloc on this continent. He sighs softly. I fear we are going to have to take a risk one way or the other, else the greater risk will be remaining here too long. As the movement of the crowd shifts, Ronith redirects his attention to Grant and Keiko- keeping a lookout for anyone that might be moving towards them with questionable intent. Assuming he doesn’t spy anything that requires a heroic leap into the fray, Ronith will settle back and keep all of his senses open. When Darth Barracuda appears, Ronith focuses his attention on the Regent of MercTown. He will listen to the man’s speech with a growing sense of unease- even if he’s too far away to sense evil the regent’s appearance firmly settles Ronith’s mind on the question of whether to approach his double openly. Not a chance these ‘Heroes for Hire’ are on the level. We have to get out of the occupied territories. The recitation of principles does nothing to reassure the cyber-knight. Somehow I don’t think he means ‘loyalty’ in the same way as the cyber-knight code. No way all this authoritarian drivel ends somewhere good. I hope Grant and Keiko are careful down there. Deciding to settle in and wait for the rest of the speech to finish, Ronith pays close attention to his psionic senses in particular, and grumbles ”I’m getting too old for this.” He considers radioing his Barracuda for a report, but decides against it. No sense in throwing unnecessary signals about this close to the show.

When they are segregated, Keiko glances at Grant and comments in her normally bubbly tone, "Oh look looks like we'll be in good company. How did they know where we needed to go?" Keiko giggles at her comment and clutches to Grants arm looking the part of a girl in awe. Grant can pick out the undertones in Keiko's words. She knows they were directed to a specific area.

During the speech and demonstration Keiko holds a hand over her mouth. To the casual observe she may seem to be in awe, but Grant can tell she is trying not to burst out into laughter. Wow. I can't believe I'm hearing this in his voice. It just doesn't go together. Keiko leans next to Grant, "We have to get a recording of this." Keiko's eyes light up as she thinks about Barracuda's reaction to seeing this.

I am not going to get dragged into some other dimension's conflict...Well at least not one I don't start myself. Smiles slightly as she thinks of an idea, "Did you bring the camera?" Before Grant can actually answer, Keiko stomps her foot and loudly shouts at him, "What!? How did you forget the one thing I asked you to bring!" She grips his hand and yanks him back towards the exit, "We're going right back and getting it! You promised we would be able to remember tonight and I want more then your empty promises! Keiko shushes any attempt by Grant to say anything, "No! not a word. You promised. and we're getting the camera. Like you said you would this morning!" Keiko keeps the charade up as she tries to maneuver them to the exit.

Should the exit be blocked by a guard or if they are asked why they are leaving, Keiko will turn on the charm and reply, "I'm just in such a state. As they find their spots, Grant uses his magical senses to look around at the people around him. They obviously are not afraid of those of us with any magical or psychic potential. When dimension portals begin to appear, Grant enhances his vision for distance and casts Farseeing (3 PPE | MA 9 | 10 min | See license plate up to 2 miles away) and looks at those stepping through. With the Well's preventing access to the nexus' power, and the distance we are from the nexus; how are the casters getting access to the energy needed to open the portal. He looks to see if they are holding or touching an object that might be what 'authorizes' the user to access the energy.

As his first opportunity to personally see one of their dimensional doppelgangers he casts Sense Evil (2 PPE | BOM 92 | 180' Area | 12 min | Blocked by Mind Block). Is this going to be like a bad tri-d movie where our opposite numbers really are opposite? His inner eye already open, he sees the magical energy around the regent. (Is the magic coming from objects Corwin is wearing or does it seem like he actually has a strong pool of magical energy?) He bites his lower lip for a second as he gets the sense of evil. To Keiko, he quietly says, "Well, that's unfortunately predictable. He probably belongs to V4H instead of H4H." Villains 4 Hire.

As they watch the demonstrations Grant murmurs, "Omega Knights are our cyberknights, and the Vanguard...are they like Shifters who've made a pact with Odin?" If he didn't identify any obvious objects that appeared to be used to access the Well, he adds, "Okay, I think I've seen enough."

Standing next to the taller and obviously more 'martial' feline d-bee gushing like a little girl causes a smirk to cross Grant's face disrupting his chain of thought. When she grabs hold of his arm, his right eyebrow raises, and his thought is obvious on his face, What are you doing? Luckily she continues talking and he catches on. "Camera? What do you mean, I am sure the recruiter said no cameras, at the very least no flash photography. I know what I said this morning." He stumbles forward as she grabs and tugs his hand and pulls him off balance, "Hey!" He turns and tries to smile sheepishly at those around him. "Sorry! Excuse us please."

From his seat in the Job Market Cafe, Barracuda looks around for something to look at that isn't the Omega Knights. Is the news on? Do they even do newspapers in this reality? God, I really hope we aren't stuck here. King of Merctown? Heh, I could never pull that off back home. At least I have some spine somewhere. I've been number two for so long, I wonder if I would have ever made a good king. I wonder Daisuke is doing over there...

Barracuda turns his attention to the Omega Knights and Daisuke briefly to check in on his wild teammate's status. And that's when...
Daisuke wrote: Wed Mar 01, 2023 12:33 pm As if on cue, the squirrel defecates on Daisuke's shoulder much to the Arismal's apparent delight, "Oh look my friends, the first deposit! I must leave it somewhere prominent!"

Picking up the tic-tac sized excrement with thumb and index finger, he holds it aloft before the two Omega Knights. "Suggestions?" Daisuke asks in earnest.
That might be our out... "We need to get you back home and cleaned up!" Barracuda stands up and quickly walks over to Daisuke's side. Turning to the Omega Knights, he says "Sorry, my friend isn't well. Hygiene has never been his number one skill." Looking at Daisuke with a stern look he says, "Where did you even get a squirrel? Let's go. NOW." Damn. Speaking of poop, I wonder how Striker is doing... The glitter and wires piles are a little weird, even for me. He then leads them out of the room and toward the ceremony taking place.

Barracuda and Daisuke

The two grizzled Omega Knights certainly seem offput by the lowly job of scouting out local criminals. What they did to deserve this assignment is hard to say, but it's almost certainly meant as punishment. They seem focused on Daisuke but as Barracuda steps in, they scowl and look ready to make the conversation physical.

Suddenly, the on the left leans in, staring intently at Barracuda. His eyes widen. He steps back suddenly, striking his chest twice in salute, bowing his head before Barracuda. The other looks confused for a moment before a similar wide eyed stare affixes itself to his face. He follows suit. Murmurs run through the cafe and people are now looking at Barracuda. He can hear them say "Corwin".

Parade Ground

Keiko and Grant fake their way out. The guards look around for an officer, but when one isn't seen they simply shrug at the pair and do not hinder their leaving.

Ronith watches as several people step through, all wearing grey outfits with skull-like motifs on their helmets and face masks. Many are wearing repainted CS gear. Several mini missiles are launched at Corwin. The Omega Knights and Vanguard spring into action. Magic is unleashed, spraying the portal and all nearby with fire. "Rebels will be brought to justice, including the Spooks. All who stand against the emperor are agents of death!" says Corwin from the stage where the mini missiles explode against an invisible barrier mid air. A man in flowing grey robes sitting atop a phantom wolf, also comes through the portal. A glowing orb hovers beside him, no doubt an energy sphere to cast in this restricted environment. "The portals must be destroy Corwin. This tyranny is evil and you know it. Help us! There is a greater evil at work, surely you know that."

A wide grin sprouts across Daisuke's face as those present recognize the Lemurian Prince. Though he has zero musical aptitude, he feels compelled to lean into the role of Jester and cups his mouth with his hands, beginning a full-throated song and accompanying dance.

"♫♫ Make Way! For King Corwin
Say hey, it's King Corwin

Hey! Clear the way in the Mystic Quarter
Hey you, let us through that's a straight-up order
Oh, come be the first on your block to shade your eye
Make way, here he comes
Ring bells, bang the drums
You're gonna fear this guy

King Corwin, fabulous he, Corwin of Lemuria
Show some respect, boy, genuflect, down on one knee
Now, try your best to stay here
Brush away those terrified tears
Then come and meet his spectacular coterie

King Corwin, mighty is he, Corwin of Lemuria
Strong as ten Omega men, definitely
He's faced the rampaging hordes
A hundred alien guys with swords
Who sent those fools to their lords? Why, King Corwin ♫♫"

Daisuke looks around Contractor's Cafe with a breathless semi-crazed look, daring anyone to challenge Barracuda's proposed identity.

I am... the BEST! Kondo thinks to himself.

The internal silence that follows confirms the magnitude of his own awesomeness.

Grant's head is on a swivel as Keiko leads them out of the area. "Wait, wait, something is happening!" He lets out a sigh as the platform with King Corwin disappears from view.

He shakes his head as they walk out, "I don't have anything that can enhance hearing." His head tips up and his eyes go wide, "No, I do! Quick, let's find a spot out of the way." When they find an alley or nook they can conceal themselves in, Grant says, "Okay, I've got a spell it will last about 30 seconds, but I am not sure if I am going to connect to our Corwin or his evil duplicate. "Yes! Of course something is happening! Can't you hear the explosions?!? Why do you think I worked to get us clear! I'm not getting dragged into a different dimension's political issues!" Keiko's eyes flash and her fur raises along her back in a rare moment of anger. Keiko seems more angry at the situation and the lack of ability to leave then anything Grant said. She takes a breath and smooths her fur back down, "Sorry for yelling. It's not you. I..I just don't like being trapped here. While this is an amusing place to be, I don't like not being able to leave when I want. I'm not sure if you hear it or not, but I heard someone call out a countdown to something from behind us. We don't need heavy scrutiny. I'm sure we would be interviewed following the incident and I'm sure you have a doppelganger here too would likely make for a long and not nice day for us."

Keiko leads them to an alley out of the way. "Come to think of it. I'm sure that I would likely be the only one without a doppelganger here. The way I came to the Heroes was from a rift sending me to the past where you guys fished me out of the river. So here I would more then likely be a slave in Atlantis or dead from several different options. The rest of the heroes have been together for a while so I'm sure we can assume you all came together again some how."

Keiko nods to Grant when he asks her to watch his back, "I got you. Do your thing." Keiko gets ready to intercept anyone coming into the alley. Her first approach will be with words should the people look like they are willing to talk. "Hey there! Sorry my friend isn't feeling well. We're just taking a break. I'm trying to get him back to the house without getting vomit all over me."
Charm: 1d100: [32] = 32 /50%

If talking fails she is ready to use a combination of abilities. If the need arises Keiko will activate Instant replay to make everyone relive the the last six melee rounds. She will take that time to grab Grant and cast Wink-out for it's longest duration of five minutes in the real world. They will seem to have disappeared or teleported away. Keiko hopes the people have left after five minutes.

To avoid notice.

Although it has been several hundred years since he met the man, one does not easily forget a shifter riding around on a large wolf with a glowing energy orb over his shoulder. Vheld… That’s right, he did join the Spooks after Kingsdale. Became quite the adept, if the buzz around the mystic quarter is to be believed. Could this be a solution closer at hand than Lazlo? If nothing else, it sounds like he’d be willing to tell us the truth about what my double is really up to. The question is, can we grab him with all this security around? Dammit, old man, you’re going to have to take a risk at some point around here. Ronith thumbs on the team radio frequency and sends out a muttered, burst transmission. ”I recognize the man on the wolf. Vheld. We met when he was just starting out, and he was strong even then. He may have the knowledge and the willingness to help us. Hold back for now- stay out of the way and avoid notice. Keep alert for an opportunity- if we can grab the shifter before the others kill him he should at least be able to answer some of our questions about this place. If I see an opening to provide a diversion, I shall do so.”. Ronith will then use shadow meld ((-10 PPE)) and enhance reflexes ((-10 ISP)) in anticipation of providing quite the diversion. He will attempt to make his way closer to the action, and to Vheld in particular, while sticking to shadowed corners and hopefully avoiding notice or close contact by others. Whether or not Ronith attacks will depend on how quickly Vheld looks like he will be overwhelmed, and just how many hostiles Ronith will have to cut down in order to extract him but if it looks feasible he will draw his plasma pistol and ready a blinder grenade.

Ugh. This is the last thing I need. Corwin winces at the song from Daisuke, removing his chances of playing any of this nonsense off. To Daisuke he says "Thanks. Thanks for that." He turns to the crowd and with a booming voice (Warp Sound: Change Voice/Booming Voice) he says "Citizens of MercTown! It is I! Your King! Corwin! We are filming a new show called 'Undercover Ruler' and as you've found me out, I have decided to reward you all! You will all head to the plaza immediately for your reward! I will be right behind you."

Turning to the Omega Knights, he addresses them directly. "You two. Give me your weapons. There is a very dangerous criminal that I was tracking that you just scared off. I will take care of him myself." He holds out his hands to relieve the two of their weapons to give to Daisuke and himself.
