Case Notes
Emotions: Aurelio is genuinely curious and sympathetic to the woman's plight.
Aurelio smiles. "Up until not too long ago, I lived in northern Italy. Helped my folks try to make ends meet on the farm. They're getting older, so I came to America for work. Now I help by sending back what I can to them. Hopefully it's enough for them to hire on a couple hands or something."
Aurelio, genuinely curious and a bit naieve, simply asks, "There doesn't seem to be much in town for a man with an injury to do. What would he be doing if not fishing?"Consumer wrote: ↑Sun Feb 12, 2023 8:23 pmThe woman sighs. ”A bit too much if you ask me. But in truth I doubt he was always fishing.” The widow says, a sad look about her eyes.Aurelio wrote:"I've spoken to Kevin and some of the others around the lake who frequent its shores for fishing. Was your husband an avid fisherman as well?"
He sips his coffee and decides to offer up the woman a bit of sympathetic understanding. "When my papa died in the war, my momma struggled for a while, too. Me and other boys helped as best we could, but it was hard, lean times. But then she met my father in-law. He's a very good, pious man. Now she's happy even though times remain lean. Trust in Him, and I'm sure Providence will provide for you as well." Aurelio sets his coffee down and looks at his hands. Never use a God-given tool for evil. "I'm a boxer by trade. I know something of violence. It's not right for a man to visit that on his wife. That's what flawed men do when they're afraid and feel powerless--they try to feel powerful at someone else's expense." He looks up, "What made Mr. Gipsum feel that way?"Consumer wrote: ↑Sun Feb 12, 2023 8:23 pmMrs. Gypsum nods. ”When Michael was injured, he wasn’t able to work for a long while, and it made for tough times. He started drinking again, not sure where he found the foul beverages he consumed, but he turned into a mean drunk… and… let's just say life is full of hardships, but now that he is gone, I am at a loss as to what to do… the bills pile up.” The woman’s eyes begin to well up a bit, she dabs them with a napkin, before sipping her coffee. ”I’m not a horrible woman to say his death doesn’t sadden me, but him not being around, has given me some peace.” She finishes.Aurelio wrote:"Father Blake suggested it has been a rough couple of years for you."
