There are people I hope to find in Wisdom that may be able to say where this man is.” Silhouette eyes the dock’s ships and the people milling about handling ropes, baskets, and iron bound buckets filled with the materials to care for the life of the vessels as she nods to herself as if settling an argument, “A trip further south will only slow my finding him, but I will find him.” She then walks over to where Alwin is speaking to the Captain to address the Captain's concerns about travelling with a Troll aboard.
"Then maybe I could be of some help with that." Mürrischer responds to this with some level of sympathy to the situation. "Is there a direction you know this person went?" He even shows Silhouette on the map that Wisdom is more than on the way to their destination.

"It shouldn't be to much a hassle loading the ship." Mürrischer chimes in with his own thoughts to himself How hard could packing a ship be? Can't be much harder than packing the stores back home

Ivy nods and watches the discussion between Alwin and the Captain with interest. I should ask about those river pirates later.

She reaches out and scratches Ambrosius behind the ears reassuringly. "You hear that Ambrosius? We're going to see Wisdom sooner than we thought."

Watching serenely as Alwin conducts the negotiations, she wonders. He does sound rather experienced in these sorts of matters. I hope he's not afraid to ask for help if he needs it.

When Alwin is finished, Ivy greets the Captain.

"Greetings Captain. I've long admired those who can master the waters in ships like these. My name is Sister Ivy, while I am with you if you need help I will do what I can. What is your name Captain?"

She brushes aside a wayward blond lock of hair, and the little being looks up at the Captain. The eyes she fixes on the Captain are blue, calm, and very serious. "I have recently heard about river pirates in this area. Is there anything more you can tell us about troubles along the route to Wisdom?"

Damn it why did I just offer to load everything? Because you like reminding people you are strong. Pride has a tendency to make you to speak before thinking. I have to be more cognizant of that.

"River Pirates? That is a thing? I mean I haven't traveled by river before. Always assumed Pirates were an ocean thing. Regardless, I don't think that we have anything to worry about, if they are stupid enough to attack a troll they will probably be easy enough to beat on wit alone."

You did it again. Hehehehe. Damn it why can't I stop? Pirates present a problem. I may need to run to a vendor pick up some light armor. I don't think I want to fall in a river wearing scale. You could always take off your greaves. Just the chestpiece should be manageable. I don't want to experiment if I can avoid it. I am a good swimmer, but I am usually naked when I swim. Also I am not wounded which is a possibility. Fair enough. Have you thought about fighting naked. It may distract them enough to throw them off kilter if they arent straight horrified into fleeing. I don't think my companions would appreciate that strategy.

Silhouette’s appreciative expression morphs slowly into a sour grimace as she considers the wolfen’s reasonable question. Silhouette shakes her head negatively to say,”I only know he was following others who had taken a relic he was after. I know that those folks made it out of the Shattered Lands and were headed to Wisdom…” Silhouette shrugs,”If I can find those folks they might be able to say where this man I’m looking for is. Even better, they may have seen his face which gives me a lot to work with.”
”Alwin” wrote: Alwin hears the voice and recognizing Silhouette allows his thoughts to flow, Maybe more human than I originally thought... We offer as little as possible. Our protection is bargain enough. If I were not so concerned about my reputation in this city, I would have taken this ship at his first hesitation. Do not mistaken my mask for naivete or kindness. This Captain, like the alchemist is a tool. This is something I learned from many years of dealing with your kind.

He will never know how close he came to death.

Reaching an arm out around Sil's shoulder with his mind still open, You may not always find pretty thoughts behind a pretty smile. We have not had time to talk, we will. One thing you should know, I am a firm believer in getting things done. The how, is only a foot note.
Silhouette looks at Alwin with a side eye as he drapes his arm over her shoulder as she answers mentally,”If you offer as little as possible, why did you go and promise to help load?” A moment after she continues and asks worriedly of his other statement of tools,”What of humanity made you learn that? The alchemist is an elf too you know and still a tool?”

Silhouette lets another thought pass to Alwin as she realizes the question,And am I a tool to you?” Silhouette shrugs Alwin’s arm off of herself as she continues,”I keep my tools well sharpened and cared for, how do you treat yours?”
”Captain” wrote:“…as long as you folks don't bring any trouble onto my boat.”
Silhouette gestures at the loaded down Petal who is carrying Silhouette’s entire life on her back as she says,”I accept your deal, when can we load onto the ship?” Silhouette begins to bounce on her toes as excitement takes hold and her whole body leans towards the boat. Silhouette smiles with a twinkle in her eye and tilt of her head as she thinks,”We pay our way in trouble.” Though she follows her question about loading with,"When does your ship leave?"

If there is time;
1st: Silhouette will go to the Llorn's Merchant Guild and see about how to turn her stored money into a travelers note to cash out in Wisdom if possible.

2nd: 2nd; she will go to the market and buy white cloth, wool stuffing, black yarn, and black buttons, and any scrap cloth of equal amount to adorn with dresses in Eastern style. Enough to make two dozen Aco dolls.

Alwin turns to the Captain, "Of course, as far as Wisdom is perfect. We can help loading and unloading the ship and we will keep it safe should anyone try to attack as well ... Do we have an agreement? ... Wonderful. Can we help with anything here or should we just focus on loading our things on the ship?" A handshake later the Captain is pointing over towards some wagons drawn up a short distance away.

Ivy scratches Ambrosius behind the ears and introduces herself, "You hear that Ambrosius? We're going to see Wisdom sooner than we thought ... Greetings Captain. I've long admired those who can master the waters in ships like these. My name is Sister Ivy, while I am with you if you need help I will do what I can. What is your name Captain?"

The man offers a cheerful smile down at Ivy, " I am Captain Deward Miths. A priestess then, Sister Ivy? Of what faith are you?? ... I hope you do not offend to easily, some of me-sailors ... they can be a coarse lot. What are the names of the People in your company?? ... "

The Gnome (after answering?) inquires, "I have recently heard about river pirates in this area. Is there anything more you can tell us about troubles along the route to Wisdom?"

His smile dampens a bit and he nods, "Oh Aye, pirates all about these days on the River up and down the damn thing. Not as bad as near Kaash, but the Old Kingdom River ... well it borders the Old Kingdom the whole durn way so ... It's not uncommon to have raiders and such trying to grab at honest folks' goods. Most time there's no issue if we keep plenty of current betwixt us an' any trouble makers."

The Wolfen and Troll walk up closely behind Ivy, Alwin, and Silhouette, "It shouldn't be to much a hassle loading the ship." Mürrischer chimes in. Goram speaks next, "Mürrischer is right, I can load most of the stuff in one trip. Not that I want to be the only one loading the ship. I mean I will but it is not my preference."

Captain Miths cocks an eyebrow and sniffs skeptically, "As I said to your Elf friend [whatever name given] ... we have a load of near about 5,000lbs of fine porcelain. It requires delicate handling, not some fool trying to do it all in 1 trip, and if you break it, you are buying whatever was in the crate." He points over to 6 large wagons loaded down with dozens of crates from which 3-4 human sailors are walking back and forth with 1 dwarf-sized crate at a time (1 wagon is about 2/3 unloaded), "That's our cargo from Master Lacken there ... We have a few smaller shipments going to stops along the way, but that will be the centerpiece."

"River Pirates? That is a thing? I mean I haven't traveled by river before. Always assumed Pirates were an ocean thing. Regardless, I don't think that we have anything to worry about, if they are stupid enough to attack a troll they will probably be easy enough to beat on wit alone."

Miths shakes his head, "Yes. River pirates exist. And they are all too happy to employ any number of ways to take a cargo without paying. Or with an discount made of blood and steel."

Silhouette ponders the meanings behind some of Alwin's thoughts and tries to query him a bit before she gestures at Petal and says, "I accept your deal, when can we load onto the ship? ... When does your ship leave?"

Deward turns to look at her, "I expect to leave with the evening tide in 5 hours. I am hoping we will have a Water Warlock along. It makes going upriver against the current much much easier, but we have a little ways to go on the inland sea ... if I cannot find a Walock in Llorn, I'll have to chance finding one in Port at the Old-Kingdom Delta."

Silhouette turns to leave the Captain and Mürrischer picks back up the conversation from before "Then maybe I could be of some help with that ... Is there a direction you know this person went?" Silhouette’s expression morphs slowly into a sour grimace and she shakes her head negatively to say, "I only know he was following others who had taken a relic he was after. I know that those folks made it out of the Shattered Lands and were headed to Wisdom … If I can find those folks they might be able to say where this man I’m looking for is. Even better, they may have seen his face which gives me a lot to work with.”

Silhouette then departs to head for the Market, intent on some last minute acquisitions

OOC Comments
Dear readers, welcome. In my eagerness to join this delightful campaign I neglected to read the fine print of this vast range of deities. I trust you will not bear me any ill will for failing to note there has been no active temple of Rurga for over 10,000 years, and that Rurga herself whilst allegedly billed as 'Principled (good)' and a shining examples to Paladins everywhere murdered her own husband in cold blood.

As a consequence, with GM approval, I have sought a deity better aligned to my character. This is a correction of the deity field not a character rewrite. Anyone who knows anything about me will know what my character stands for, and as a consequence the choice in deity must change.

Ivy shall follow the better hearted deities of the Northern Gods. It seems to suit the homeland of both Mürrischer and Ivy, and unlike the Rurga Pantheon there is a healthy number of kindly deities to work with in the North.

Being only a few posts into this tale I trust you will fully understand.

Sincerely,
Kylie

Ivy responds with an instinctively graceful curtsey, "I honor many of the kinder gods of the North. Epim is closest to my heart." She smiles, "I raised two sons, rough talk I can deal with." May the gods hold the dear boys close.

If no one introduces themselves, Ivy will do her best, "I am new to the company today, but I've known Mürrischer's family some years." She nods in the direction of her wolfen friend before continuing in a friendly tone, "The large troll is Goram, whom I have a good feeling about. Then there's Silhouette over there, and I was told she's our token human. As for my new blue-eyed elven friend, I don't believe I've yet heard a name."

She turns her eyes to Alwin expectantly.

"How long ago was this?" Ivy asks, cocking her head to listen. "We ought to make good time against someone who may be riding the Wisdom."

Ivy decides against venturing out into the marketplace. Ambrosius always likes it when I pack extra beef jerky, I could buy a few pounds. Hrmph, no, I think I will stay here. Once the ship is loaded and I'm not in the way I can check the ship's quarters and settle in. Unless someone asks me to accompany them.

As the dock workers conduct business, Ivy finds a good spot away from being underfoot and takes out her wooden flute.

She begins to play a sea shanty she heard once long ago. Music is always a good way to make new friends, and it makes hard work easier. Ambrosius chimes in with the occasional bark, and hopefully the workers will enjoy it and perhaps even join in.

Play Musical Instrument (wooden flute): 1d100: [2] = 2 / 55% CRITICAL- play a catchy sea shanty for the hardworking dock folk
Charm/Impress: 1d100: [30] = 30 / 35% - make friends

Always good to build some bonds before the hardships to come.

Goram contemplates his conundrum. This is the scenario, the Cloth Armor gives mobility, keeps me from drowning, but I am the primary melee combatant. I owe it to them to stay up and the cloth armor offers almost no protection. Well it seems your best option would be studded leather. Yes, but that would cost a minimum of 300gp. I have 30 gp. What about bartering one of your newly acquired potions? They are valuable but no one wants to barter with a troll. They would suspect maleficence. I don’t have time to sort that out. Maybe Alwin could loan you the money? I hate to ask but I am not in a position to not consider it. Also if that doesn’t yield your desired result, there is one merchant that wouldn’t assume maleficence, knows the quality of the potion, and doesn’t seem to be wholly unreasonable. Aye, Myfflin. Ok I will ask Alwin, if he isn’t amenable to it then I will go visit Myfflin and see if will give me a fraction of the potions cost to be applied to armor.

Goram, approaches Alwin, “Alwin, looking at this river journey I am growing concerned about the possibility in finding myself in the water weighed down by my armor. I am in need of protective armor that allows me to stay afloat. I was wondering if I could take out a loan with you for the 300 gp needed to purchase it? I would also be willing to give my current armor as collateral or give you one of my potions of nourishment at a fraction of the cost if you would prefer to make it a transactional relationship. Are any of those situations amenable?”

Contingency:
If Alwin is not interested he will then travel to Myfflin’s and knock on the door. If he says come in. He will open the door and say “Mr. Myfflin, it is Goram. I didn’t want to enter and potentially harm your shop. The group has decided to travel by boat. My concern is my current armor will be very difficult to swim in if I can at all. I was looking to find a way to purchase some studded leather armor. I am currently gold poor. I came to see if you would be willing to exchange one of the potions you gave us for a fraction of its price so that I can purchase the armor I need?” He will then wait for an answer.

If either situation gets him the necessary money he will go to the nearest armorer to make the purchase.

JIC: 1d100: [59] = 59 1d20: [7] = 7
Perc 68%/ 1d100: [68] = 68

TO GM: Silhouette takes 4 Healing (Superior) potions. (Added to my sheet already per instruction.)

Silhouette puts Petal on a hitch with the Red Guard and jokes looking straight at any of the men of the group,”There is a wonderful dress in there if any of you want to wear it. A long trip needs something to appreciate when the forests and hills start to look the same.” Silhouette winks before she departs. Hearing the flute eventually playing behind her she finds herself smiling with a curious appreciation of the quality as she thinks,”I will have to make myself one of those.”

---

Silhouette gets a backpack 10g for the shopping and she gets a (Small metal box (5 lbs) 15 gold to carry the gold ; the backpack houses the metal box as she shops.

Silhouette will go to the merchant’s guild and take out what she needs between major purchases. 2k, twice to pay for magic bags. and 500 gold a draw for everything else, or whatever you say is required to fulfill the need. Once shopping is complete the rest of the banked gold goes to a travelers note. Traveling note is pending unknown costs being deducted and once acquired placed inside the dimensional bag.

--

Shopping: (SEE LISTS AT BOTTOM of prices and totals pre-done/suggested; (#)’s match lists.)

(1) Silhouette will buy a good-sized grapefruit from the market(price?). Silhouette goes to an Alchemist and acquires two Enchanted Bags ( Small pouch) (No rarity stated) (2k each). Before paying she Makes sure the grapefruit can fit into each small pouch. If so, she provides a drop of her blood to seal the bags to herself along with the payment. She will immediately put the pouches on her left and right hips via her belt, leaving the grapefruit in one.

(2) She will buy 12 darts and a superior balanced short bow (+2) as well as 3 dozen arrows for the short bow.

(3) She will buy supplies for making art/prints and a bit of sweets listed below. Bartering 40% / 1d100: [45] = 45 (Chance to lower price by 3D6+2% ( 3d6+2: [4, 2, 5]+2 = 13 (If the price is disputed, the two bartering characters can each make rolls on percentile dice, the highest roll wins and gets their price and not a penny less or nickle more.)

(4: unknown costs/availability):
-She will hopefully find two bandoleers for darts/knives. (These are typically adjustable due that the strap around the dart/knife is a thong that you tighten over the shape of the item or the sheath it may be in.)

-She will go to the market and buy white cloth, wool stuffing, black yarn, and black buttons, and any scrap cloth of equal amount to adorn the dolls with dresses in Eastern style. Enough to make two dozen Aco dolls. (No idea the price of materials besides needles.)

- Get Linseed oil 24oz as part of the art needs(unknown cost)

-Silhouette finds a private location perhaps the privy, before she takes out a medium sack from the Dimensional Bag appreciatively supplied by Tyral days long past as she fishes next for the goblin skull in the same bag. Once she finds the skull she quickly stuffs it from dimensional bag to sack. She makes a point to go to any lantern makers and keeping the skull in the sack (She won’t relinquish the sack/skull to anyone’s inspection) uses it as an approximation of getting it into any lanterns explaining to them that she is going to be traveling on the road and wants to be able to preserve her night eyes but have a lamp in case. Her focus is finding a lantern that can completely block out light when closed that is as small as possible for ease of wearing at the belt. She is ok with removing the oil well from the bottom if the skull can fit into the top compartment; she can carve a bottom out of bone herself. If they don’t have anything like this, she also asks the lantern makers for suggestions on how they would go about indefinitely hiding the light from a lamp from visibility without smothering or putting out the flame. She will get a price on a commission if they don’t have such lanterns.

Alwin smiles at Slihoutte as he lets his arm fall to his side. He replies Verbally this time as he maintains a friendly smile, "We are all tools. Any tool worth keeping, is worth treating well. No one holds on to useless tools." He watches as she walks away.

Alwin sees Ivy turn to him and awkwardly stares silently for a moment, "Oh, you mean me. Yes, My name is Alwin. He offers a hald bow and a smile. I look forward to getting to know you more. I am particularly interested in your views on the world. You seem to have a very positive way about you." Alwin turns to look at the wagons being loaded the back to Goram as he makes the request of 300 gp. He reaches into his pouch and pulls out what the troll needs.

"No collateral needed Goram. I would prefer a warrior be well prepared for our current situation. Pay me back when you are comfortably able." He smiles and reminds himself of the thought Silhouette passed to him, tools must be sharp indeed. "Be quick about your purchase, we do not want to miss the boat." reaching up, he pats the big troll on the shoulder then turns to the cargo master, now, how to get them to pass on our help with loading?

Alwin walks down the dock, and up to the cargo master and asks, "Master Lacken, would you need a hand to load these crates? My troll friend and I can help if needed. We both have strong backs, maybe a little awkward and clumsy, but strong indeed." He opens his eyes wide and eagerly, "The cargo isn't delicate, is it? I will try my best if it is."

Date: 21 September, 345
Time: 1805
Environment: Clear Skies
Location: Sea District

Ivy and Captain Miths exchange pleasantries and she points out the names for some of their party, Alwin offers his own name, and no one bothers to introduce their
Tom (Human), Jerri (Human), Mox (Human), Wally (Human), Mohe (Orc), and Stubrik (Elf)
who, unlike everyone but Mürrischer toss their packs up onto the deck and join the line to begin unloading. Both Mürrischer and Alwin find that there is no Corwyn Lacken here, the crew unloading explain that that guy is far too damn self-important to come watch a shipment get loaded but none seem anxious to have a self-professed klutz handling the fragile cargo. Ivy finds a spot on deck near the prow where she can watch the work without being underfoot and takes out her wooden flute to play a sea shanty and hopefully make hard labor easier with the intent to build some bonds before the hardships to come.

The Troll turns asks, “Alwin, looking at this river journey I am growing concerned about the possibility in finding myself in the water weighed down by my armor. Are any of those situations amenable?” Alwin turns to look at the wagons being loaded then back to Goram, "No collateral needed Goram. I would prefer a warrior be well prepared for our current situation. Pay me back when you are comfortably able." He reaches into his pouch and pulls out what the troll needs, and Goram then promptly walks off back towards the Market without lifting a hand towards the wagons.

The afternoon passes by and the Red Brigade members pitch in for about 2 hours and carefully haul boxes up to the Sweet Kerroline's gangplank, then down to the cargo hold. They then bring their own travelling gear, group's animals, and wagon (with Myfflin's crates) aboard. By the end the group seem to have a grudging acceptance of the Ranger and near-spite for Alwin the observer. Meanwhile, Mürrischer has figured out that going upstream on a river means fighting against a current the entire time, and recalls that he has actually seen rivers before, has swum both with and against currents, and recalls that going against the current is tougher.

Once things are loaded, the crew begin to set the rigging and prepare to cast off with the evening tide and the Captain begins to pace as the Troll and Southerner have yet to return.

Prowl 45% vs 1d100: [16] = 16 - Try to remain unnoticed while looking for hidden/concealed compartments on the ship.

When the Red Brigade finish loading the ship, he offers a short bow and a thank you, "My, that was a lot of crates. So good of you to help the crew out. I, of course would have only slowed you lot down. No need for broken crates to ruin the good standing we have started with." He smiles graciously. "You should all probably rest a bit before we start our journey. I would be happy to take first watch with the troll, wolfen, gnome and human. Give you bunch time to catch your breath and ready yourselves. Should I wake you when it is time?"

Alwin tries to change the subject to keep the captain calm, "We will plan on a day watch and a night watch. The Red Brigade will take the night shift. The others and I will take the day shift." As Goram walks into view Alwin turns to the captain, "See good sir, As prompt as a rooster's crow in the early morning. The troll is here and better for having a light set of armor which will allow him to move about the ship with ease." Alwin nods in affirmation that all is well while thinking, we should have just returned this impatient ass to the earth. Breathing in slowly he turns to watch Goram board the ship, just in time.

With his back turned while watch Goram, Alwin asks the captain, "Did you find the water mage? Or is this something we will need to still procure along the way?"

Alwin takes some time to walk the ship and get a good idea of the layout. Along the way he looks for any concealed compartments that might hold hidden cargo. If he finds any, and has privacy he will check the contents as well.

Once the ship starts it journey Alwin will try to gather the group. Once together, "I am working toward us taking the morning shift. We shall leave the red brigade to the night shift. I have little desire to interact with more humans than absolutely necessary and hope you all don't mind me take the lead on the decision. I also feel, now that we are on our way. Maybe we should discuss our competencies. It would be good to know a little about each other." Looking from person-to-person Alwin tries to judge their level of agreement and then starts, "I am Alwin, I have some magic abilities but am in no way a wizard or magician. I find myself more comfortable with a bow or sword. I prefer engagements that offer, tactical advantages."

Pausing briefly has finishes, "Who is next?"

When Myfflin's crates are being picked up and loaded, Ivy stops playing as a flash of realization dawns upon her. Od's beard! We are lucky the Red Brigade touched those! She follows the workers into the ship's hold, and carefully observes where Myfflin's dangerous crates are being loaded.
Ya-Blik wrote: Fri Feb 10, 2023 10:51 am 2) The boxes will be warded, and to safely handle them True Names will be given (otherwise handling could be deadly) -- and both Ivy and Mürrischer opt to provide those names [OOC: Per Individual Chats].
"Friends, if we are the only ones who can touch Myfflin's crates, can you please arrange them so no crew member can accidently brush up against the things? Perhaps we can arrange Captain Mith's crates around Myfflin's crates as a precaution? Myfflin's crates can be covered in the other unwarded crates as protection."

As the hauling work nears completion, Ivy asks Captain Miths where we can fetch water or some drink for those laboring. For the little gnome, this is a labor in itself. By the time the ship is loaded, the little gnome does her best to ensure there are filled mugs of drink for all. She hands out the drink to each and thanks them in turn for their hard work.

"Ambrosius doesn't sleep as much as most folk," Ivy explains. "He won't bark unless he has reason to, and can help nightwatch. On a ship he won't have much work carrying me around, so the extra task will suit him well." She coughs a bit uncomfortably, wanting to make up for not helping with the cargo hauling. If I were bigger I could have been more use, I hope they don't think poorly of me. "Gnomes don't sleep all that long either, I will try to keep the nightwatch company in part of the night also. I am sorry I could not help much with the loading, but a gnome can be watchful."

Once on board the vessel, the gnome will see where she ought to sleep. She finds out whether there are cabins or some sort of communal area with arrays of hammocks. If possible she will pick out a spot close to the exit, allowing Ambrosius easier access to the outside for doggy business.

She then answers the question as best she can. "After you finish with your sword work, I can heal with a touch and keep the company healthy. If the Gods allow, they might help with some magic at some time of great need, but I am no wizard and just a simple priest." Then, his tongue lolling from his mouth, Ambrosius barks once, and drops to his haunches, his big eyes gazing intently at the group. Ivy pats him affectionately. "Ambrosius and I have seen a few fights, and we will help when it comes to it."

These humans really are cluttered sometimes. Mürrischer lets out a breath to what he hears, his thoughts to himself as he does what they'll let him, or mildly annoyed that they don't let questions on assistance are unattended by those giving an answer. He does hold a smile through the matter to the sound of Ivy's flute playing, making up words softly to himself even if he has no true skill in singing at all.

Goram returns wearing his new Hardened Leather armor. He is carrying a sack with his old armor in it. He places his shield in the gag and removes his sword from his waste. He approaches the ship Captain, pulls him aside and quietly asks "May I stow these in your quarters? The sword is very valuable, as it is a Flame Sword. It's nature does not make it the best weapon to brandish upon a wood ship."

(If the Captain agrees he will take the gear and stow it there. If not he will store it amongst the crates so that is hidden and almost impossible to take without touching the crates, making the number of people that could take it.)

Now only brandishing his Eviscerator, he returns to the deck and hands Alwin his 20 GP in change plus 10 Gold from his own money. He keeps 20 of his own gold in case of emergency. He then starts stretching around and moving in his new armor. The new leather crafted item is still a little taut so he moves to stretch it and to get rid of the initial squeak that new leather tends to have. He slides side to side. Jumps up and down, even doing a

I never ask Tullius if Knights ever wore light armor. I mean they all were heavy like it is expected. Maybe I need to open the Order up to any desired armor type. I am not sure if that is standard and just the ones I knew all opted for heavy. Well it is your Order now. I would say it is in your purview.

That is fair I suppose.

The Sweet Kerroline is a two-masted sailing ship. She is seaworthy, fairly well maintained and solidly constructed.

There is always one who cares about others... Alwin takes a deep breath and looks to Ivy in response, "I would imagine that part of the day and night shifts responsibility would be to watch the crates. There are enough in each group to have someone on deck as well as down below. MAybe even switch out so we all get fresh air. He looks around to make sure it is just this group listening before continuing, "As far as warning or protecting anyone else on this ship, not my job. If they can't keep their hands off of what does not belong to them, they deserve whatever they get. You have fairly done the right thing by addressing the crates placement, this will ensure there are no accidents. We will, by the nature of keeping the crates safe, keep the others safe. I'm just saying, that is not my, priority."

Alwin looks around to see if there is any other input on the topic, then back to Ivy. "We would have 12 hours for our group. With 5 of us, maybe we rotate 2 hours in the hold each. One of us would have two shifts downstairs every few days. I wouldn't think we would need more than 1 directly watching the crates. We know who is on board, the unknown threat is from piracy off the ship." Alwin shrugs and a small smirk forms on his face, "The crates do protect themselves as well."

Ivy frowns. That is rather callous. Warning others of danger is everyone's job. Is he just tired or is being neighborly actually beneath him? She pauses a moment to see how the others decide to react as she considers how to approach this problem.

Maybe he cares more for himself? He wouldn't be the first. Ivy reflects briefly on the wide range of folk she had ministered to over the dozens of years. I suppose self interest is king for far too many, such a waste. Maybe it is the only foundation I have to work with to build something better?

"Whatever you wish," she says. She lowers her voice to ensure no one outside their room might overhear. "I wonder though what the wards do when activated? Do you know? What if it starts a fire on board? I've heard of wards that cause fires or even explosions. If it is something truly bad might we find the crates at the bottom of the river. Caring about others tripping the wards should be very much your concern, unless you know there is nothing to fear."

"I'm certain they do, but do they protect you while protecting themselves?" she adds while smiling mildly.

There. If he will not care about innocents maybe he will if there's a chance he might be caught up in something completely avoidable and possibly unpleasant.
