Puberty is an awkward time, as one struggles to control their still developing body as it grows and takes on new features. For example, should one be a dragon, puberty might not just stop at sexual maturity but include taking on additional (and unstable) super powers. That is something that Lenok is learning as he has just developed the ability to turn into a being of energy. He manages to teleport into the burning Aden mansion. Realizing that the fire is intensifying with dangerous speed, he tries to get himself together and corporeal. In the process he accidentally fires an energy beam down the east wing's hallway, and throw the wall into the room where Al Aden kept his exercise gear, landscaping tools, and several crates of dynamite (as one does). The dynamite explodes, devastating the entire east wing of the mansion, and then triggering a second explosion from the propane tanks in the second hidden office.
Dear reader, you might be wondering why there was that many explosives in the Aden mansion, all concentrated near the master bedroom suite. Well, as you might expect, getting involved with demons creates a vicious cycle. Wishing for demons to solve one's problems leads to more problems that can only be solved by more demons. Getting involved with demons also creates what law enforcement would call 'incriminating evidence', things that would connect an unethical real estate developer, for example, to the demons even more and that our hypothetical developer could not get rid of. Grizz van der Ourse, being a demon and a lawyer, has seen this happen all before. When this vicious cycle reaches its climax, just like it has for Al Aden, someone has to destroy all that evidence leaving a clean slate for the next person to buy this manor and activate Beneé's infernal machine. Because there will be another person, Aden bought this mansion in an estate sale after the previous owner had been sucked into Hades; he had to do an entire gut rehab of the mansion.
Beneé is trying to explain this to Edison and Steiblah, but when Steiblah hears fire he recklessly runs into the thick of it. He is hit by the first blast from the dynamite, the shockwave and debris from one destroyed wall knocking him back (force field destroyed, -70 S.D.C.) into the library. The entire room shudders, the random thin volume slipping loose from a shelf. The force knocks Edison to his knees.
Iron Maiden is not so lucky. She decides to take the time to catapult the file cabinets with some of the incriminating evidence out the window (not thinking if that would destroy the fire damaged and fragile contents inside). As she lifts up the first file cabinet she is hit by the initial blast from the dynamite. Before she can even be knocked down a fireball rushes around her engulfing her in flames and throwing her out the office window with a violent force. Iron Maiden's blazing and severely burnt body skids along the driveway of the Aden Mansion followed shortly by two of the flaming file cabinets. The first lands on Chastity's lower torso breaking both of her ilia and a femur, the second crushes her head killing her on the spot. From his spot in the foyer, Lenok just watches as the entire east wing of the mansion disappears in a swirl of light and heat, leaving a grim haze inside the cavernous mansion interior.
Back in the library, Steiblah slowly regains his footing as he watches the fireball swirl in front of the door but never crossing the threshold.
"This building has good (cursed) bones," the jinn explains.
"Everything but this room has been torched a dozen times by now."
Edison wrote:"So. I just have a question or two, if you're willing. If we destroy the machine what happens to the demons in the lake?"
Beneé smiles and leans forward as Edison speaks. They are amused to have someone ask questions before making impulsive (and frankly, evil) wishes.
"No. The machine isn't what keeps them here. You could wish them..." the jinn stops when they see Edison's very non-responsive glower.
"You might want to call someone and get a boat and more guns to hunt them."
Edison wrote:"And how do I destroy the machine?"
"That's a lot easier," Beneé says, the weight their words heavy on their voice.
"Do you see those large cables connecting that pillar to my platform." Beneé points down to what appears to be a series of black metal pipes running along the floor.
"If you sever them, the machine is permanently broken. The wires inside can't be repaired. And once that happens my connection to this plane is gone forever. Freedom..."
