Perception: 1d100: [90] = 90 / 76%
JIC: 1d20: [4] = 4 / 1d100: [7] = 7

CONDITIONS: John is at +1 foot, See Invisible, Radar, Immune to Possession, can't be touched by undead, can't be mind controlled by vampires, etc.

John ignore Xander, Your friends told me we were going to be undercover, idiot.

Then he opens the door to the rootcellar.

"OH FUCK!"

John reflexively turns into pebbles. After a moment he calms down and says, "Uh, hey little boy. I think Mr. Whiskers may have had an accident. What's your name and what does your mom look like? Maybe we can go find her."

He sends the rest of the team a mental image of what the boy, but the kid looks even freakier through John's mental filter. "There's a vampire child, who is not terrifying at all, down here, with a dead cat. He's looking for his mother. Do you have a mom version of this or a drained corpse mom up there?"

"So, uh, is this the only room down here? As you can see, I do not have any blood. Just so you know."

John takes a moment to tap on the walls, looking for potential secret doors or similar, while keeping a very close eye on the little boy. He's worse than that dragon in New Nashville. Who now lives with us. Why are children so scary?!?

Detect Concealment: 1d100: [95] = 95 / 61%

Assuming he doesn't find anything, John says, "Why don't we go look around for your mom? Remember, I don't have blood. My name is Flint, like the rock. Which is what I am made of."

Then he holds out his hand to see if the child can touch him.

CONTINGENCIES: If the little boy follows him, he leads the child to the top of the stairs. If the light hurts the child, John says, "Maybe you'd better stay here while I get my friends to help us."

If the little boy refuses to follow, he says "That's cool, stay here and I'll get my friends to help."

If the little boy attacks him, he runs the hell outside!
Definitely Not a God. Yet.

Ash looks at what is going on and with weapons in hand waiting for it to move... a moment later he lets out a audible. "Malakas."
Ven wrote:"So, not vampires. Or new vampires?" The dragon chimes in, sitting down and bringing up a paw. I might start experimenting with shapechanging a bit more... I had only used it passively before. Ven muses and then will get up and start walking towards the stairs (if there are any) or other unexplored rooms. As she does, she actives her magical ability to sense evil as well as her mental ability to sense psionics. She will specifically filter out the group psionics and rings.
Ash having seen this before is perturbed, this is a state that normally happens between breaths in measurement of time. "Normally one would view them as relatively new, there is a tranisitional period that has been witnessed before" Ash lets moments he has witnessed through the telepathy as he focuses on those incidents, where you can see sunlight, water, and silver effecting the newly turned from before, during, and then after the vampire state in the span of 3-6 seconds. "but it's usually extremely short process, this seems as is they are either stuck in the transitional state, or moving to slow to be perceived to our perspective." Thinking back to the mentioned testing and experiments "I wonder if this is some sort of side effect of them diluting the blood too much in their experiments. I wonder how the Alien intelligence behind this creation is able to control it, if at all if it is this weak."

Jack wrote:Jack speaks , “So are they destroyed? Or, are they inconvenienced by the sunlight. Will water kill destroy them or is it something else? As John and the boy come up stairs and the ashey scene unfolds rather quickly. Ash blinks a few times, and looks to the others." well that was fast, and whatever these are, they one was stronger than these two, he might have been the ones to do that to these other two." ~That was most satisfying to watch one of them go like that. Whatever this new variant is, seems like it might be easier to take out than regular vampires.~

Ash will begin separating the piles of ash, scattering them about to prevent whatever these things are from reforming eventually.

Mind's Eye is a sensory power that instills the psychic with radar-like vision. This psionic radar allows the character to see the shape of everything around him. Even people or items concealed through magic (except Invisibility: Superior) can be seen with this radar vision. A psychic using this power suffers no penalties when blinded or in complete darkness. Will sits and contemplates what has unfolded so far.

As Ash sifts through ash, he comes to the realization that every time he has felt the presence of one of the creature at camp and this child it hasn't felt the same as Vampires. It has been odd and fuzzy, a bad feeling but not necessarily the feeling he gets with vampires. At camp the feeling was stronger. As the boy emerged he had a similar feeling but not as powerful and the child disintegrated before he could sort out the differences.

Or at least this bunker is. looks like they turned it into a root cellar. Dresden said that before the rifts hit, families in rural areas in something called Tornado Alley used to have structures like this one to shelter for Tornados. Apparently they also used similar structures to shelter for Nuclear attacks. He was with NEMA and said that they rescued many families that sheltered during the Rifts opening."

IMPRESSION: She feels an immense sense, of fear, followed by pain, then insatiable hunger, and then death.

IMAGES: She gets rapidly flashing images, of the doctor from her previous vision, the giant Juicer is with him. It is night time and the home is illuminated with artificial light. The family is tied up. The doctor is injecting something into them. First the Father, then the Mother and lastly the Girl. She sees flashes of each family member writhing then slumping over. Then the Girl is injected and then the images stop. The only one that hadn't been poked or prodded on when the vision stops was her little brother.

(The Girl's name was Cassandra (Cass) Jessup.)

Well, this is getting even more interesting! Is it actually gone? Ven asks curiously.
Xander having seen the ash, says "Pretty sure, Ash is making sure the ashes are spread out enough just in case."

What do you do?????

They don't react to the normal vampire stimuli. At least not in the normal way. The first one had silver needles jammed into it. Must have hurt. Don't care. Do these?

Will stands up from his contemplative sit and heads back into the house. "Oh, you melted them. Damn." Will looks through the piles of incinerated bodies to see if there are any clues/foreign equipment that could shed light on the situation.

Ash looks at all the evidence and items he has witnessed so far, the instant ash of the boy, the physical damage done by the daylight arrow, something is nagging at him on his mind like he is forgetting something, but hasn't remembered yet, or like when you are trying to remember a word you haven't used in a long time, know it's meaning and definition, but yet the word itself escapes you. The psychic can sense and interpret the shape, distance, direction, speed, and location of everything around in all directions at an accuracy with several bonuses.

This incredible psionic power augments the psychic's physical senses, enhancing his perception. This enhanced state of awareness sharpens all natural senses by 50%, and further enables the psychic to "filter" all of this extra sensory input in order to concentrate on one or a few specific things. While using this ability, the psychic will notice every detail around him down to the slightest motion, sound, scent, and shadow. He will further be likely to notice changes and inconsistencies that might reveal traps, illusions, feints, or tricks (including sleight-of-hand, etc.).

As Ven approaches the doll and receives the burst of images and information, her eyes soften though her currently feline face fails to show her discontent at what she sees. These aren't scientists or soldiers, these are monsters preying on those unable to fend for themselves. Ven shakes her head and lets loose a low, hardly audible growl of frustration as she leaps to a table and sits down, her cat-tail whipping softly in different directions. Curious. These poor souls were injected with something. Both parents then the girl, Cassandra, though she never saw her brother get injected. After the injection, they slump and the memory stops. The transition from life to undeath, loss of will? Perhaps they have weaponized the vampire strain into a virus? Or something similar. Ven muses, licking one of her paws before cleaning the feline face. It's ironic that the puritans of the Coalition dive so deeply into perverted science.

Xander says “But what are these things? And who are these people that created them. I mean the CS are complete assholes and definitely evil. Torturing and experimenting on folk, is totally something they would do, but kids? Doesn’t that seem a little too evil for them?”
Ash, the kid (Theros) wrote: Mon May 08, 2023 8:51 pm " This seems familiar, very familiar, but I can not quite place what this is, it's like a reference to a subject we studied but since it was so obscure it was mostly put on the back burner if you will." ~I know this! ~No, that's not it. No, not Lycanthropes. What the hades, I know it's here somewhere!.!~
Ash flips through his digital manuals. Nothing jumps out at him as far as identifying the creature. Other than the laughable historical vampires in Pre-Apocalyslpse literary fiction, there is nothing that matches this creature. The only real vampires are those created by the Vampire Intelli…gence. Ash’s mind has an epiphany he quickly scans to a book that discussed the potential anatomy of an intelligence infested husk.

The text scrolls across his screen. ‘The infective agent introduced by the bite seemingly instills cells that grow like a cancer eventually “bioforming” the body of the host for the inhabitation by the Intelligence. This process is required to extinguish the life of the host because two consciousnesses cannot inhabit the same sentient being. Once bioforming is complete, the new cells have taken control of all vital systems. It produces chemicals enhancing speed, durability, and strength to unimaginable levels. Some of these chemicals are highly reactive with sunlight and silver. The creatures are so ionic that running water can literally break down the cells as it chemically removes bonds holding the new being together. They are so reactive to these circumstances, that without the infrastructure of the alien cells the creature would seemingly disintegrate, in the presence of those substances instead of slowly succumbing to their properties.

Curiously there are incidences that the bio formed body is either unable to connect to the intelligence, or are capable of supplanting the intelligence, leaving the vampire with free will, although these are exceedingly rare instances. . .’
Ash moves on, to contemplate his reading and how it applies here. That is when he realizes what has been off about his feelings with these creatures. He didn’t feel the Vampire Intelligence. Except for the vampire at the camp when he has had the sense of something not quite like the vampire, the intelligence was not there.

John takes a mental victory lap in his deductive acumen, successfully narrowing the field to creatures that are alive, partly transitioned, or some other unidentified thing. Suck it Xander.

Xander laughs, “I’m not that kind of dog. If I didn’t know better I would think you had a thing for me John. Stop obsessing about me. I mean you aren’t my type, but I will try anything once, twice if it’s good.”, he says with a guffaw.

As they trade jabs, Jack is looking around at the scorched part of the building contemplating, its cause. As he touches the ashes he gets the impression it was arson meant to hide what was done here. He then in a moment of thought realizes no one has read anything belonging to the boy. He runs down stairs as Ven is explaining her reading, and runs to where the boy disintegrated. There he touches the ashes. The impression is a mixture of fear, sadness, loneliness, hunger. Then satiation and warmth of a friendship. Then darkness. The images he gets are limited to shadows. One the size of the boy, another gigantic armored figure, a flash of a dog shape, a cat shape, and then another large figure smaller than the first.

Ven in spite her newness shows wisdom and strikes a chord with everyone when she says ‘weaponized the vampire strain into the virus.’ It may not be wholly correct but there seems to be a gut feeling there is some truth to it.

As all of this unfolds John's eagle eyes capture what appears to be drops of dried blood heading to the north. they become more sparse as they progress but fortunately about the point they stop the ground softens and a large footprint of a heavy humanoid continues north out of the homestead clearing and into the woods. As he looks he sees whatever it is wasn't covering its tracks, so the trail should be easy to follow.

Ash, puts his pad away, and looks a bit stunned. "~They weren't bitten, they were injected. They're not connected to the Alien intelligence, which is extremely rare. I believe this means it's the saliva that is needed as part of the conversion process to connect them to the controlling intelligence. The process takes three days of feeding on, and three days dead. That boy retained his memories, I doubt he is a master as that would had made him a complete vampire, so the process in which they are manufacturing these things in their labs makes incomplete vampires, or half for lack of a better wording. Something is either dead or undead, at least this is my best estimation as to what we are dealing with. Being half apparently makes globe of daylight more efficent, as well as water, we could test silver on the other body next to the water killed one, but it seems these may be easier to dispose of than true vampires. Maybe it's not being connected to the Intelligence means they don't get it's full power, giving it more resistance, very fascinating." ~
~My instructors and elders would love to get their hands on these things, living humans absorb sunlight and produce vitamin D through it, maybe vitamin D is also something that can cause damage to them, the undead vampires wouldn't be able to make vitamin D, I have to test this if we find another batch. That would be hilarious if milk could be weaponized. It IS mainly water with vitamin D, protein, fat, and calcium added~

Ash will approach the remaining body and simply place a silver cross on it, and watch for a reaction.
